Snow really wanted to emphasize in the Games how not only an ordinary human, but an ordinary child, could become violent and destructive for their own survival.
But during the Victory Tour stop in District 11, Katniss gives a memorial to Thresh and Rue, who she credits with saving her life and by extension, Peeta's as well. Even after Snow warned her to quell any kind of rebellion, she can't be helped but to thank Thresh and Rue and the district that lost them. She can't help but thank them for the bread that they sent that, even if it didn't save her life, gave her hope after not being able to save her little ally.
And District 11 pays for this gratitude with at least one execution. Because the Capitol wanted them to forget that ordinary children tried to save each other even under impossible circumstances.

I used to be surprised by how little theory of mind that some people, especially the self-identified mentally ill, possess.
On the other hand, when my father told my siblings and I a story about how he, a latelife surprise who was functionally an only sibling for purposes of this story, was in like 4th grade when he thought he would try out being a bully and beat up the little red-headed girl a year younger than him who lived with her Irish family of 7 older brothers in a house that my father had to walk past on his way to school.
She kicked the crap out of him, as one would anticipate of a girl with 7 older brothers. My siblings and I immediately told our dad, "You're lucky she beat you." He of course was all ??? so we explained; if you had beaten her, she had 7 older brothers and they'd have all beaten you twice a day for beating up their little sister. He immediately saw that we were correct and came to a new understanding of his childhood neighborhood dynamics.

From the drafts:
This is just a gut feeling, but it might be that there can't be a "perfect organism," because once you're optimizing in a high enough dimensionality space, the increasing number of trade-offs means that there's always some weakness.

Maybe it’s because I don’t know how to look but I really can’t find a lot of varied queer fiction, it feels like all the LGBT sections in bookstores are cheesy romance novels about two guys in high school or like adult fiction with heavy subjects (which I admittedly love but have read a lot of) and like it’s wonderful that those exist now but I feel like there should be other stuff out there. The other day I read this book that was about aliens, deals with the devil and the cost of fame but it was also about trans identity and that was fucking sick. So if you feel so inclined suggest some queer books you like that just so happen to include queer characters in strange and varied stories

I don't think Snow wanted Peeta to kill Katniss.
He wanted Katniss to kill Peeta.
Peeta would attempt it, certainly, but a private reunion would be unlikely. Soldiers and doctors would be around and could help Katniss, which is what happened. Death is a possibility, but not guaranteed.
This reunion was meant to be a scarf with a snake underneath, an attempt to kill a lover.
And Snow expected that, stripped of the love that protected Katniss and with Peeta viewing her as a mutt, she would fire bullets back at him, lost in her hatred and her desperate need to survive. He would turn her into him.

Absolutely loving how the Israel Palestine situation going hot immediately got everyone in the US to use a blend of applying an American view of race onto the conflict despite the fact that almost every single individual involved is legally caucasian in the US, and it seems like overall the public positions work out to; "do you hate the Moslems or The Jews more?"
