Jeffrey Wright is MLK in 'Boycott' on Max
Jeffrey Wright stars as Rev. Martin Luther King in Boycott (2001), a powerful made for cable historical drama about the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the first volley in the modern civil rights struggle. Wright plays King as a modest young minister literally thrust into the leadership of what was expected to be a short protest after the NAACP and civil rights leaders turn the stand that Rosa Parks…

Polly: Comin' Home
The text discusses the 1990 sequel to the TV movie "Polly," called "Polly: Comin' Home."
If you read my last review, then you know that 1989’s Magical World of Disney TV movie “Polly,” a reimagining of the 1960 film “Pollyanna,” which in turn was an adaptation of the 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter, steamed a sequel in 1990, “Polly: Comin’ Home.” We see many of the same actors reprise their previous roles, with Debbie Allen returning to direct and choreograph. As a kid, we owned both…

'Homicide: Life on the Street' Commentary on 'Night of the Dead Living'
I am back with my latest audio commentary on an episode of “Homicide: Life on the Street,” and the one on display here is “Night of the Dead Living,” a nice little play on words on the title of the classic horror film, “Night of the Living Dead.” It was directed by Michael Lehmann who gave us one of the greatest black comedies ever made, “Heathers” which starred Christian Slater and Winona Ryder.…

Juanita (2019)
Quem assistiu, nunca esquece! 🤍 Nota pessoal: 4/5

Film after film: Juanita (dir. Clark Johnson, 2019)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a 1990s vibe dripping from this film with a great lead performance by Woodard. At times astounding in its aesthetic and formal choices, it is eventually satisfying, as soon as it finds balance between the initial too-silly-funny (Underwood!) and cliché-sad scenes that clutter its first half, unnecessarily. The tone that gets established is one of a unhurried and unsentimental love-friendship relationship.
