Jeppe Madsen Ohlsen (May 18, 1891 - 1948) was a largely autodidact Danish painter (he did study in Norway with Christian Krohg).
He painted strange scenes from his hometown Christiansfeld which had an unusual religious community of Moravian Brothers (Herrnhut Brethren) in a style that mixed Naivism, Symbolism and Magcal Realism.

Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) believes she is answering a calling to be the first female exorcist… but who, or what, called her? In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, Ann seeks out a place at an exorcism school reopened by the Catholic Church. Until now these schools have only trained priests in the Rite of Exorcism – but a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl, who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago. Determined to root out the evil, Ann soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.

Marni: Ready-To-Wear AW23 Why did Marni want to show in Tokyo? “The synchronisation with this culture is about being inspired by how much sacrifice there is in disciplining, learning, making. Here, they’re masters of that,” Francesco Risso said before taking over the Yoyogi National Gymnasium for the second stop on his Marni world tour. Prey for the Devil (2022, dir. Daniel Stamm) - review by Rookie-Critic
Tumblr media
Prey for the Devil was my Halloween theater outing this year, and it was about as mediocre as expected. I don't think that's a particularly major surprise to anyone. It was full of exorcism-horror clichés and cheap jump scares and acting that's right on the cusp of being bad without actually being outright horrendous. Jacqueline Byers makes for a decently interesting protagonist, and there's glimmers of acting ability that show themselves here and there, but the writing just kind of goes through the motions, taking a lazy Sunday drive down the avenues of "Exorcism Horror 101" and barely stopping to tick all the boxes that make up the genre. Even if an actor wanted to attempt a performance that was above average they'd have to do so within the confines of the tropes that have been done to death ever since The Exorcist hit screens back in 1973. It can't decide if it wants to be traditional or progressive in its tone, when it even cares to have tone, and when it doesn't, new "plot twists" are dropped so much that you get whiplash in the film's final act. Even with all of these complaints, though, I didn't completely hate it. It manages to maintain command of your attention until the end and some of the sequences were fun even if they were predictable. If the film had taken itself a little less seriously it might have worked, but it's the feeling that everyone involved here felt like they were making something really good that takes some of that charm away. Maybe it was because I was ready to turn my brain off and have a good spooky time, maybe there is actually some merit hidden deep beneath the mediocrity, but I don't think Prey for the Devil is complete garbage. Just mostly.
Score: 3/10
Currently available to rent or purchase on digital (iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, etc.) and to pre-order on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K through Lionsgate Films.

Pray For The Devil. Quick Review.
Putting the finishing Touches to this review and spotted this thing now has new title on IMDb Presumably to dupe audiences into actually watching something this worthless. Whatever. It still sucks
Another week. Another extremely tired and worthless PG-13 horror effort vomited up into a desperate theatrical exclusive landscape. This time a devout Catholic nun in training develops a relationship with a potentially possessed young girl. Has anyone seen any number of exorcism films before this? Then they have already seen everything Prey For The Devil has to offer. Incredibly wrote jump scares…
