Finding out that Nex was Choctaw means I can’t help seeing the difference in media response between their death and that of Brianna Ghey, the young middle class white trans girl horrifically murdered by her schoolmates last year in the UK.
Because the US and Canadian media actively erases the mass deaths of indigenous people, especially those of marginalised genders (women and nonbinary people) and especially queer, gender-divergent and two-spirit indigenous folk.
This is such a horrendous fucking crime by both the school and the perpetrators, and a horrendous fucking tragedy for not only Nex, their family and their friends, but all of us. They deserved so much fucking better than this.

Some wholesome history facts.
Generally, history tends to be interesting, funny, gross, sad, and quite horrific. Wholesome bits are usually either not the full story or a lie. However, there are always diamonds in the rough.
-During the Austro-Prussian war in 1866, Liechtenstein sent out 80 men to fight. They came back with 81. It’s nice when you bring back a friend, isn’t it?
-Alexander the Great once said his childhood friend Hephaestion was more or less equal to him. Of course, that didn’t stop him from quietly doing away with and just straight-up murdering in public his other friends, but ah well.
-Michael Jackson once searched the world for a liver to save a kid’s life.
-Genghis Khan (or Chinghis Khan as he called himself) was more loyal to his wife than many people who are worshipped as ‘heroes’. He also raised her possible illegitimate son as his own.
-When Rome and Greece were at war, this Royal Doctor offered to poison the Greek Kings (too lazy to look up names). Instead of accepting, the Romans warned the Greek King and as thanks he released all the Roman Prisoners.
-During the Irish Potato famine, the Chochtaw tribe, despite being far from well of themselves, raised 200 dollars, a hefty sum in those days.
-George Washington once stopped a battle to return a dog belonging to the enemy,
Whatever you think of the historical figures I’ve talked about, you can’t deny these are pretty wholesome.

Separatist and irredentist movements in the world
Texas
Proposed state: Republic of Texas
Region: Texas, United States
Ethnic group: Texans
Goal: independence
Date: 1990s
Political parties: -
Militant organizations/advocacy groups: Texas Nationalist Movement
Current status: active
History
1528 - the first Europeans arrive in Texas
1685 - first settlement
1810-1821 - Mexican War of Independence
1832 - Anahuac Disturbances
1835-1836 - Texas Revolution
1836-1846 - Republic of Texas
1845 - annexation of Texas into the U.S.
1861 - secession from the U.S.
1861-1865 - American Civil War
1995 - provisional government proclamation
2005 - creation of the Texas Nationalist Movement
2021 - Texas Independence Act
Many different tribes inhabited Texas before the European arrival, including the Apache, Caddo, Comanche, Chochtaw, and Wichita. The region was under Spanish control until Mexico’s independence in 1821, when it became part of the Mexican Empire.
The Anahuac Disturbances against the Mexican government were the prelude to the Texas Revolution of 1935-1936, after which Texas declared independence and formed the Republic of Texas. Nine years later, it fulfilled its wish of annexation into the United States. However, following the outbreak of the American Civil War, it seceded from the country and joined the Confederacy.
Tumblr media
Having rejoined the U.S. in 1865, Texas did not make any more secession attempts until 1995, when the Republic of Texas group claimed to have reinstated a provisional Texan government. In 1997, the group split into three, one of which became the Texas Nationalist Movement.
Secessionist sentiments grew after Obama became president in 2012 and were fueled by the Brexit vote. In 2021, a bill to organize a nonbinding referendum on independence was filed by a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives. Another bill was introduced to add a referendum to the 2024 election ballot.
Texans
More than 30 million people live in Texas, of which 42.5% are non-Hispanic whites, 39.3% are Hispanic, 12.8% are African Americans, and 6.1% are Asian Americans.
Tumblr media
The main language of the state is English, but Spanish is spoken by around 30% of the population. The largest religion is Christianity, practiced by 75.5% of Texans, with Protestantism being the most common denomination.
