House Democrats made an extremely rare break with modern political norms on Thursday to rescue House Speaker Mike Johnson's (R-La.) foreign aid package.
WHY IT MATTERS: It's the starkest evidence to date that the GOP's fractured and tiny House majority has effectively yielded to something resembling a bipartisan coalition.
WHAT HAPPENED: The four Democrats on the House Rules Committee voted with five of the panel's establishment Republicans to advance the package of four bills to votes on the House floor.
• The crossover was needed after three right-wing hardliners on the panel — Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) and Chip Roy (R-Texas) — voted against sending it to the floor.
• The right-wing rebellion was enough to kill the package if Democrats did not step in.
ZOOM IN: The Rules Committee typically consists of leadership loyalists who dutifully vote along party lines on advancing legislation to the floor.
• But former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) placed Massie, Norman and Roy on the panel last year to placate right-wing hardliners who rebelled against his bid for the gavel.
• That put power in the hands of Democrats, who overwhelmingly support the package and are desperate to send aid to Ukraine.
WHAT WE'RE HEARING: This kind of party crossover on the panel has not happened "in the time that I've been here," said Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.), who has served in Congress for more than a decade.
• Kildee, a member of Democratic leadership, said the move is "unprecedented."
• "I think it's highly unusual ... I don't know that I've ever seen that happen," said Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.), a former member of the panel.
WHAT'S NEXT: The committee vote sets up a vote of the full House on Friday to pass what is known as the "rule," a procedural mechanism setting the terms of debate on legislation.
• Democrats will need to bail out the rule once again, with the House Freedom Caucus taking the rare step of endorsing a "no" vote.
• That likely won't be a big deal, however, now that Democrats have already rescued the rule once: "In for a penny, in for a pound," said Kildee.

Ryan J. Reilly and Jane C. Timm at NBC News:
High-profile right-wing influencers were briefed on House Speaker Mike Johnson’s voter registration bill well in advance of its announcement in what appears to be a coordinated social media campaign meant to drum up support for the legislation, which is dead on arrival on the Senate. Conservative influencers posted dozens of times before Johnson, R-La., publicly announced the bill alongside former President Donald Trump at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, calling on Congress to pass the bill, which has not yet been filed, and offering policy details that are still not available to the public.
The legislation targets voting by noncitizens, which is already illegal and very rare. Johnson appeared at Mar-a-Lago at a time when his speakership is in a precarious position, with attacks from far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who has a significant social media following. Getting some public support and praise from Trump could give Johnson a bit of protection with the Republican base, as could drumming up support from conservative social media influencers. At 3:50 p.m. ET Friday, Ryan Fournier, the chair of Students for Trump, who boasts a million followers on X, appears to have been the first to have posted the name and details of the bill. Johnson’s news conference was scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday, but it began just after 5 p.m. Neither Johnson nor his office would provide specifics about the legislation before Friday's event when they were asked by NBC News. His office confirmed Monday that background information about the bill had been sent in advance to conservative-leaning influencers but did not specify which influencers.
In the hours leading up to Johnson and Trump's news conference, social media posters, including Libs of TikTok, DC_Draino and EndWokeness, promoted the legislation online. They all called the bill “the SAVE Act,” though Johnson did not name it as such. "PASS THE BILL,” DC_Draino (Rogan O'Handley) wrote at 4:22 p.m., claiming the bill “would require blue states to obtain proof of citizenship for voter registration.” On X, EndWokeness wrote that the bill would add penalties for election officials’ registering noncitizens to vote. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, reposted EndWokeness’ post at 4:40 p.m., saying he had authored the bill. A spokesman for Roy said the bill has not yet been filed yet, but Roy posted a screenshot of the first few lines of legislation before Johnson's speech. The bill is dead on arrival, with Democrats controlling the Senate. Johnson said Friday, though, that simply putting the bill to a vote would be "interesting."
"When we put this bill on the floor, you're going to see a record vote by Republicans and Democrats," he said. "They're going to have to go on record. Do you believe that Americans and Americans alone should be the ones who vote in American elections? We're about to find out their answer." It is illegal for noncitizens to vote in state and federal elections, though some municipalities allow noncitizen voting in local elections only.
Chrissy Clark, a conservative influencer who contributes to Turning Point USA, appears to have been one of the people who received early information about the legislation.
[...] Another conservative influencer, Isabella DeLuca, posted about the legislation at 5:07 p.m., the minute when the news conference began. "Speaker Johnson just introduced the SAVE Act, a pivotal measure to fortify our democracy and save our elections," DeLuca wrote on Twitter.
Want more proof the conservative media apparatus controls the GOP’s agenda? Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA)’s team briefed right-wing influencers such as Rogan O’Handley (DC_Draino), End Wokeness, and Libs of TikTok on a bill that purports to target noncitizen voting (which is already illegal for federal elections).

Wang Chung covering Blur got me to think about that. You know, I pondered the cover version of many tunes and what they can tell us about the musicians who made the originals. Of course, we also ask ourselves about those who remade them. For instance, how did Otis Redding feel, when Aretha Franklin made one of his songs her own? I mean, their versions differ from one another mostly in their intentions, because Otis' tune seems to contain a more pleading tone, whereas Aretha Franklin transforms the latter into an anthem of self-worth. Therefore, what we have here should be considered a great case study of how two great vocalists can remodel the same piece with their two different approaches into two completely varied readings.

how do you find/buy sex stuff? I'm sure there are websites, but I don't even know where to start. What would be safe and reputable? Do you have any suggestions, or advice on picking something "good"? Also thank you for opening your asks for stuff like this.
okay, so here's the shake:
I personally believe that you can buy decent sex toys anywhere, providing that:
The listing is honest about the product's materials
You know what to look for
Silicone, glass, and metal are the safest materials you can use. They're the least reactive with natural bodily chemicals and are the least likely to give you problems.
SILICONE: Not 'silicon'- silicon is NOT SILICONE. Slicone solids are never 100% transparent and might, MIGHT appear translucent and foggy at the clearest. Silicon might be shiny OR matte, but if it's matte please know that velvet or soft-touch coatings are most often non-silicone materials added after the toy itself is molded. This is usually fine, but if you know your body is sensitive to that, one brand I know has the texture built into the mold is Fun Factory. It's pricy, but it's high quality and comes with a warranty.
NEVER ASSUME AN ITEM IS SILICONE UNLESS THE ITEM IS DESCRIBED AS SILICONE.
GLASS: Tempered glass is usually fine. If you notice chips, cracks, or hairline fractures in it, bag it up and throw it out.
Metal: Same story. Chipping, flaking, cracks, oxidization, toss it. Acrylic toys with metallic coatings will degrade in contact with oils, unlike actual metal, so be sure to check materials.
People shit on sites like Adam & Eve and Pinkcherry, and yeah those are cheap stores that dont sell the best stuff, but they still have LOADS of good quality product and do frequent sales and clearouts if you're nervous and not looking to drop a lot of cash right off.
If you can afford it, brands I absolutely recommend are Womanizer, Fun Factory, Hitachi (now owned by Vibratex), Tom of Finland, Sinvention, and We Vibe. They're all high-quality and most have warranties for damage or malfunction.
On the cheaper end, Calexotics, Doc Johnson, Evolved, and Ouch!.
Websites like Bad Dragon, Extreme Restraints, and Sinvention are known to have good customer service and high-quality products.
Websites like Adam and Eve, Pinkcherry, and Lovehoney I've heard good reviews for, you just need to be careful about what you buy.
I've yet to encounter a legit site that isn't discrete, btw. Everything is usually sent out in boxes.
Please avoid AliExpress. You CAN buy there, but I don't trust that shit
