List of Lolita Resources
Someone in my comm encouraged me to make this list of resources for new lolitas. We were talking about how hard it can be to find information from Google search and there's just so much misinformation out there. I have a list of links that I've bookmarked and read over the past decade for when I finally become a lolita. I organized the list by sections in a specific order. It goes from information about the fashion and then to where to buy it.
To any new lolitas, there is so much information out there about lolita fashion that is still available. Part of the fun for me was researching the fashion, looking at coords, and learning what makes lolita lolita. There's so much information out there for you to immerse yourself in and even more stuff that's not listed in this resource list.
What is Lolita Fashion
Fyeah Lolita - This is my favorite blog and I still go back and read it. The last post was made in 2016 and the fashion has changed a lot since then, but it's pretty comprehensive and provides a good base knowledge. Imo, I think these articles (1 2 3 4) are required reading for anyone entering the fashion Lolita Fashion 101 - Bay Area Kei did several videos on lolita fashion during lockdowns. I recommend them for anyone that prefers video format. Raine Dragon's Lolita 101 series - Raine is a lolita that still updates her blog and has a lot of information on the history of lolita fashion. And she has a really great article on Chinese indie brands that should also be required reading for anyone new to using Taobao.
Costs of Lolita Manufacturing - One of the first things you'll notice is that lolita can be expensive. This resource breaks down the costs associated with manufacturing and why brands charge what they charge.
Substyles of Lolita Fashion
The below links are for the three basic styles of lolita fashion. If you research more, you'll find that there are more than these three, but I recommend starting with one of the three above to make it easier for to build your wardrobe. Classic Lolita Sweet Lolita Gothic Lolita
Where to get Lolita Fashion
Before even buying anything, you will need a tape measure to take your measurements. You'll need to measure your bust, waist, hips, and shoulder width in centimeters. That's how you will find out which clothes will fit you. Sizing can be different from brand to brand and country to country. I know many are used to buying using letter sizes, but it's best to go by actual measurements. Aim to buy clothes that are 4 - 6cm larger than your actual measurements to allow room for breathing/eating/etc. If you're brand new to the fashion, I highly recommend sticking to the sources listed in the videos below. It's very easy to get scammed if you don't know what to look for and I'd hate for anyone to lose their money on barely wearable clothes from Amazon/Ebay/Aliexpress. Where to Buy Lolita Fashion How to shop for Lolita Fashion online - secondhand is life for lolita fashion and there are so many options. PinkFakeFlowers goes in depth into the many ways to get it. I personally recommend 42lolita for anyone looking to buy from Chinese brands on Taobao.
Plus Size Lolita
Unfortunately, many of the Japanese brands and even some Chinese indie brands are not size inclusive. If you can't fit into the mainstream brands, don't worry there are still options. I always recommend Meta since they have a Plus Size and occasionally a Plus Plus size of their dresses and blouses that goes up to 160cm or even 200cm in some releases. Plus Size Lolita Crash Course Where to Start as a Plus Sized Lolita - This is a wonderful resource listing brands that are size inclusive.
Online Spaces for Lolita Fashion
Lolita fashion is pretty spread out now compared to the EGL (still recommend reading livejournal because its a cool time capsule of the lolita comm) days, but there are still groups on Facebook BSoLF - Great for beginners to ask questions and be helped by others. It's hard to search here but I recommend looking through the group for info. Your Local Comm (if applicable) - most are still on Facebook even if they still have a Discord. You can search for your local one on this list.
More Resources for New Lolitas
Lolita Tips for New Lolitas Three helpful tips for coordinating an outfit Lolita Tips Tumblr - I don't recommend Fanplusfriend anymore, but 42lolita is a good replacement. This tumblr is a great resource for inspo and there are many answered asks to reference. Unfortunately, polyvore is no longer a thing and many pictures are missing as a result.
Bonus
These are just a mishmash of links to resources/lists/blog that I like. Lolita Collective

Please can you explain the difference of meaning between hanfu and huafu ? Sorry if you already got the question
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply! (hanfu photo via)
Tumblr media
The term “hanfu” (traditional Chinese: 漢服, simplified Chinese: 汉服) literally means “Han clothing”, and refers to the traditional clothing of the Han Chinese people. “Han” (漢/汉) here refers to the Han Chinese ethnic group (not the Han dynasty), and “fu” (服) means “clothing”. As I explained in this post, the modern meaning of “hanfu” is defined by the hanfu revival movement and community. As such, there is a lot of gatekeeping by the community around what is or isn’t hanfu (based on historical circumstances, cultural influences, tailoring & construction, etc). This isn’t a bad thing - in fact, I think gatekeeping to a certain extent is helpful and necessary when it comes to reviving and defining historical/traditional clothing. However, this also led to the need for a similarly short, catchy term that would include all Chinese clothing that didn’t fit the modern definition of hanfu -- enter huafu.
The term “huafu” (traditional Chinese: 華服, simplified Chinese: 华服) as it is used today has a broader definition than hanfu. “Hua” (華/华) refers to the Chinese people (中华民族/zhonghua minzu), and again “fu” (服) means “clothing”. It is an umbrella term for all clothing that is related to Chinese history and/or culture. Thus all hanfu is huafu, but not all huafu is hanfu. Below are examples of Chinese clothing that are generally not considered hanfu by the hanfu community for various reasons, but are considered huafu:
1. Most fashions that originated during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911), especially late Qing, including the Qing aoqun & aoku for women, and the Qing changshan and magua for men. I wrote about whether Qing dynasty clothing can be considered hanfu here. Tangzhuang, which is an updated form of the Qing magua popularized in 2001, can also fit into this category. Below - garments in the style of Han women’s clothing during the Qing dynasty (清汉女装) from 秦綿衣莊 (1, 2).
Tumblr media
2. Fashions that originated during the Republican era/minguo (1912-1949), including the minguo aoqun & aoku and qipao/cheongsam for women, and the minguo changshan for men (the male equivalent of the women’s qipao). I wrote about why qipao isn’t considered hanfu here. Below - minguo aoqun (left) & qipao (right) from 嬉姷.
Tumblr media
Below - Xiangsheng (crosstalk) performers Zhang Yunlei (left) & Guo Qilin (right) in minguo-style men’s changshan (x). Changshan is also known as changpao and dagua.
Tumblr media
3. Qungua/裙褂 and xiuhefu/秀禾服, two types of Chinese wedding garments for brides that are commonly worn today. Qungua originated in the 18th century during the Qing dynasty, and xiuhefu is a modern recreation of Qing wedding dress popularized in 2001 (x). Below - left: qungua (x), right: xiuhefu (x).
Tumblr media
4. Modified hanfu (改良汉服/gailiang hanfu) and hanyuansu/汉元素 (hanfu-inspired fashion), which do not fit in the orthodox view of hanfu. Hanfu mixed with sartorial elements of other cultures also fit into this category (e.g. hanfu lolita). From the very start of the hanfu movement, there’s been debate between hanfu “traditionalists” and “reformists”, with most members being somewhere in the middle, and this discussion continues today. Below - hanyuansu outfits from 川黛 (left) and 远山乔 (right).
Tumblr media
5. Performance costumes, such as Chinese opera costumes (戏服/xifu) and Chinese dance costumes. These costumes may or may not be considered hanfu depending on the specific style. Dance costumes, in particular, may have non-traditional alterations to make the garment easier to dance in. Dunhuang-style feitian (apsara) costumes, which I wrote about here, can also fit into this category. Below - left: Chinese opera costume (x), right: Chinese dance costume (x).
Tumblr media
6. Period drama costumes and fantasy costumes in popular media (live-action & animation, games, etc.), commonly referred to as guzhuang/古装 (lit. “ancient costumes”). Chinese period drama costumes are of course based on hanfu, and may be considered hanfu if they are historically accurate enough. However, as I wrote about here, a lot of the time there are stylistic inaccuracies (some accidental, some intentional) that have become popularized and standardized over time (though this does seem to be improving in recent years). This is especially prevalent in the wuxia and xianxia genres. Similarly, animated shows & games often have characters dressed in “fantasy hanfu” that are essentially hanfu with stylistic modifications. Below - left: Princess Taiping in historical cdrama 大明宫词/Palace of Desire (x), right: Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji in wuxia/xianxia cdrama 陈情令/The Untamed (x).
Tumblr media
7. Any clothing in general that purposefully utilizes Chinese style elements (embroidery, fabrics, patterns, motifs, etc). Chinese fashion brand Heaven Gaia is a well-known example of this. Below - Chinese-inspired designs by Heaven Gaia (x).
Tumblr media
8. Technically, the clothing of China’s ethnic minorities also fit under the broad definition of huafu, but it’s rarely ever used in this way.
From personal observation, the term “huafu” is mainly used in the following situations:
1. Some large-scale events to promote Chinese clothing, such as the annual “华服日/Huafu Day”, will use “huafu” in their name for inclusivity.
2. For the same reason as above, Chinese clothing including hanfu will often be referred to as “huafu” on network television programs (ex: variety shows).
3. A few Chinese clothing shops on Taobao use “huafu” in their shop name. Two examples:
明镜华服/Mingjing Huafu - sells hanfu & hanyuansu.
花神妙华服/Huashenmiao Huafu - sells Qing dynasty-style clothing.
With the exception of the above, “huafu” is still very rarely used, especially compared to “hanfu”. It has such a broad definition that it’s just not needed in situations for which a more precise term already exists. However, I do think it’s useful as a short catch-all term for Chinese clothing that isn’t limited to the currently accepted definition of hanfu.
If anyone wants to add on or correct something, please feel free to do so! ^^
Hope this helps!

Lolita stores to buy from! very long under cut
This focuses a lot on dresses, but everything here sells other things!
Disclaimer: I don't have a lot these, because I have a very low budget. I have to save up like 3 months for one dress.
My main one! I can say firsthand this is incredibly reliable, it sells y2k and punk stuff too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lots of sizes! Downside is that you can't filter for different subcultures.
Not even gonna include images for this. This has OVER 500 PAGES OF DRESSES. This may be all you need.
Another giant one, this one based off community. Quality varies due to this, but you'll probably get a lot of good ones.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
INSANELY affordable. 50 dollars for the first two, 99 dollars for the last two. Lots of stuff for sale too!
There's definitely more, but this post is already pretty long. Have fun shopping!

Hi!!! I really love your style!! Can I ask, how did you get into j-fashion / egl, and do you have any advice for a new person who wants to get into it ? 💐✨️
it was because of rozen maiden LOL i actually tried to do a research project on lolita for school because of it when i was 12 but my teacher said i couldnt because of the name :( that didnt stop me from becoming obsessed though because i think either i had already started on the project without asking for permission first or i just did it anyways for fun . or like maybe i put it all on my blog because every student in that class was given a personal blog . im pretty sure i got like all of my information from livejournals considering the time period . but for nowadays i would recommend lovely lor on youtube she has a lot of informative videos on like what lolita is and like how to buy lolita on a budget and stuff [my recommendations for this is using bodyline , 42lolita (taobao reseller with the lowest markup) , chinese lolita updates on facebook (taobao proxy) , closetchild (can be kinda expensive sometimes depending on the brand) , lolitawardrobe has a bigger markup but not as bad (basically do NOT use devilinspired their markups are criminal) , or getting a friend who has access to xianyu / using a shopping service for it because im not joking i got a dress that literally never sells for no less than 300 dollars on lacemarket for 120 dollars and it was in perfect condition . this is also your best bet for finding taobao pieces that are no longer being sold . you can also just buy things directly from taobao if you can figure it out but sometimes it can be finicky to use like locking you out of your account for no reason and stuff . also i guessss lacemarket but people are always selling things for insane prices on there and if youre too excited you can get ripped off [happened to me] . omg if you were wondering about girly kei though just send another ask and i can talk about that too . girly kei [and by extension the jirai subculture] and lolita are like my big ones i know a lot about .i have like dabbled in decora and am getting into yamikawa now that its similar to how ive been dressing based on street snaps from like back in 2016 and not like basically m/enhera 2 and so tied to the aesthetic that b/isuko e/zaki created

Vocal Range:  N/A [It really depends on her voicebank. I’d say probably around the C3-C4 range is good for her most of the time. Sweet CHN seems to get raspy on high notes]
Best suited for: Nursery rhymes and slower songs [This is true. She struggles with quick rhythms at times. Her sweet voice would be nice for nursery rhymes.]

Dislikes: Blabber

Representative Color: Bone Ash [??? bruh what color is that??? Black? Grey?]
Mantra: ... [Girl me too]
Available for other engines?: No. As far as I can tell, she is exclusive to NIAONiao
Get her voicebank: [All 4 of them are in the same .zip file so you only need the one link.]

[Mod Thoughts]:
I think Judice is very cute! I actually kinda love her Sweet voicebanks, even if the high notes get a bit raspy. Her Standard voicebanks are lower quality and have fewer phonemes, some of which sound very glitchy. That aside, I really enjoy Judice. I think her character design is really unique and her voice is nice.

Pinned Post About Me (finally) :3
This will take a WHILE to read, scroll down for the illustrated ver.
1. I am in a lot of fandoms but I choose to sometimes not interact much because of my social problems. I do apologize for this but I do love my followers, likers, commentors, and rebloggers.
* I do sometimes see my mooties draw a thing or two about my interest, and I am very happy about it. ❤
2. I am very deeply into Lolita, Dollcore, Coquette, Angelcore, Menhera, and just typically cute aesthetics. However, I do not limit myself with other aesthetics like scene, Y2K, Dark Academia, etc.
3. I am very into anime, manga, manhwa, manhua, and webtoons but I typically just like actions and comedy, not much of romance (I hate repetitive romance tropes specially harem and too much disgusting fanservices).
4. I do not have a favorite food, I just like sweets and candies. I do not have a liking to eating. I am disgusted with food and it just something that grew on me. (Speed running diabetes)
5. I am officially a Canadian and I do live in a small town. I will not tell my previous ethnicity but we are very big with religion.
6. I am currently learning Russian (7 months) and Japanese (1 year). I am also interested in German, Chinese, and French.
7. I will not tell my age for private purposes but I do assure you that I am not a minor. You can freely think that I am lying, it is not my job to convince you. :3
8. I have interest in sewing, reading, drawing (obviously), fashion, and music. I do plan to share my own outfits in the future, if ever I get comfortable enough to show myself. (This is mostly Lolita and Douyin type fashion. Also, probably will be in a different account?)
9. I am Bisexual and Panromantic but I am thinking of becoming an AroAce. Biologically, I am a Female.
10. EXTRAS:
Pronouns: They/Them (you can freely choose names to call me, I'm comfortable with anything unless it's something that over sexualizes me or something that is very upsetting.)
MBTI: INFJ-T (previous result are INTP and INFP)
Enneagram: Type 4 (previous result is 2w1)
Zodiac: September Virgo
Fav. Color/s: Light Soft Colors/Pastel Colors
Fav. Music Genre: None, I pretty much bop with any music that I like. (Heavy on music artists like Takayan and Kikuo)
Fav. Artist/s: Benedict Cumberbatch and Jennifer Lawrence
End Extra/s: I do not support illegal shit and I will distance myself from creators/viewers that support problematic stuff. Please do not include my art and interest to disgusting people.
Also, I might appear too serious or strict but I am not. I am very nice but I do have some problems, I will try my best to interact more.
ILLUSTRATED VER.
THIS DO NOT CONTAIN MUCH INFO THAN THE WRITTEN ONE!!
Zoom for better view!
Tumblr media
If you are interested about me for more than art, I do have a secondary blog that's about my other interest and self updates (for my sanity). I will probably post my fashion things there, if ever.

Welcome to the Vampire Nurse Cafe.
Please tell me your favorite blood type.
I made everything in this tea set for ILD this year with the exception of the chocolates those were made by Vegan treats!
The brain is a chocolate cake that’s covered in fondant to make the brain fissures. The sauce is a raspberry jam with lemon reduction. Oh we bougie! The sandwichs are chicken salad with cheddar and prosciutto with Gouda. The last sandwich is peanut utter with raspberry jam. The cake pops are also chocolate. I had originally wanted to create this set for Halloween but work has been a little insane as far as me working almost every day until 9 pm or longer.
This was a great way to blow off steam. I recently said I would give up drawing so that I could focus on other creative hobbies like baking, food presentation and photography. It’s actually been really helpful for me to get rid of my creative block.
Drawing is something that is mentally difficult because teachers were overly harsh to me about it in 9 years of art school. I’m just really happy I can channel my energy regardless so I’m grateful that it still works out!
I bought my dress through Chinese Lolita updates but changed out the dress buttons. They were originally white but I changed them to red. I’m always in search of some kind of meta hospitality doll sub because I’ve never been tiny enough for that dress to fit me.
This piece is great and I’m going to wear it a lot. I even coorded it with a vinyl jacket and a black necklace which I also love.
The mask is also from creepy yeha as well as Vivienne west wood shoes, hair brooch is from Miss Danger. 🧛🏾‍♀️🩸💉
