Sorry about the flat falling through—I feel that. About six months ago I moved to the UK, and there was a perfect flat, like, decent rent, spacious (for me, at least), fucking window seats, perfect location, etc, but it didn’t work out for a slew of boring reasons. That said, I found another place, and while it’s imperfect (s2g the shower is the width and length of an apartment sized fridge, right across from a primary school and nursery so I wake up to screaming toddlers every morning), I’ve realised that it’s very much an in-between place. Wherever you end up going, while I sure hope it would be The Place cos you should absolutely have a place you’re happy in, if it’s not, maybe the next place will be. Take care of yourself, keep looking, and don’t give up! Something’ll pan out.

thanks, friend. i got to live in the most perfect apartment for 4 months i guess, and I'll never be able to afford anything this nice ever again, and I hoped this was the forever place but it was just an in-between place. like, it was a sublet that had a 50/50 chance i'd be able to keep it, but the people (who, ha! also own a whole actual house!) want it back and i knew that it might happen and i shouldn't have gotten my hopes up and i just feel so dumb, and so sad, and i also feel resentment and envy stinging in my veins. so now I have to move for the second time in 5 months. and i'm angry at myself for making such a stupid, expensive mistake. and i'm angry that i thought for a second that maybe i could have something nice, and feel safe, and trust that things were gonna work out. but i remain in between. hopefully soon we both will land.

when talking about topics like maturity and (self-)infantilisation, it's important to remember that there will always be disabled adults for whom the "normal" benchmarks of adulthood are not attainable or even applicable at all. if you want to be an ally to disabled people, you need to support all of us, not just the ones you find palatable - and that includes people who have "childish" interests, who get very emotional about seemingly trivial things, who aren't able to be independent in the way that adults are expected to be. that doesn't mean that we "need to grow up", or that we're reverting to a childlike state to avoid our responsibilities, or whatever op-ed writers think is wrong with gen z these days. it's just the way we are, and liking plushies or struggling with certain tasks doesn't in fact make us children! disabled adults are still adults, and still deserving of dignity, regardless of whether or not we can live up to the rigid societal norms of what it means to be an adult.

#charles edmonstone my beloved #he's so much fun #and his friendship with guy is one of the best parts of the book #i'm shocked to see a victorian book where the disabled person is neither a monster nor a saint #the disability affects his life and the household but it's far from the only thing about him #he's a great character in his own right #he even has a plot-relevant illness #but the plot relevance isn't 'oh no he's near death let's have drama' #but 'he's having a flareup and can't write letters so someone loses a vital correspondant at an unfortunate moment' #(charles does later lampshade the lost opportunity for a dramatic deathbed reconciliation scene) #but anyway despite my continued comparisons of this book and little women #they are different books #aside from the laurie thing and the general family atmosphere and the moralizing mother figure there's quite a lot different #for one thing the male characters are much more interesting than most of the female ones #the girls are fine but certainly not the main draw of the story #i do like the religious aspect of this one more though #at first it was giving me anxiety cuz they agonize over teeny little sins #but once we moved from childish concerns to more adult ones the faith aspect became much deeper #still clunky and eye-rolling at times but also surprisingly natural in some places #and i'm still holding my breath for whatever made jo cry over this book #66% through the book; it's gotta be coming relatively soon #books #the heir of redclyffe #little women #charlotte mary yonge #louisa may alcott

ok update on atla netflix: started final episode, it opens with the attack on the north. its pretty freaking great. frame for frame accurate w the show, and (other than some so so costuming choices, or a few fight-bending scenes with lower budgets) the only changes so far have been for the better

While I may not have 100% been on board with the uh. Rusame edging response post because I have extremely "problematic" ships myself and have described Mongolia and China's relationship as being "married/divorced" so I'm not really any better than the edging shit in that sense, I think a lot of the replies were made in extremely bad faith and some pretty nasty people took advantage of the situation in their own ways.

The person who was vagued about had the right to respond of course and yeah it can be classified as ship hate considering it was put in the tags however people are seriously running over the fact that the poster themselves are Uzbek-Korean so yeah they'd understandably have some complex feelings about Russia and America if you know even the general history. The post perhaps wasn't worded that well and was an attack on rusame simply because of a comedic analogy of the relationship made by a shipper, but that anger didn't just come from like. Absolutely nowhere.

You had people in the comments slinging fucking 4chan lingo at OP (same person who did this supports a well known Zionist in the fandom why am I not surprised) and then much bigger content creators making posts and comments about how OP and their entire friendgroup are nothing more than butthurt sjws who are pushing people out of the fandom (and I can't believe people are still unironically using "sjw" in 2024 I guess anything is possible).

Extremely bad faith actors coming out of the woodworks who have had problems with OP and their friendgroup for completely different reasons using OPs hate post about rusame and the subsequent dogpiling as an excuse to publicly lie about the nature of the friendship and how it broke down. I find it extremely cowardly that months ago, when confronted privately about bad behaviour such as gossiping behind people's backs and confronted with the fact the person she was gossipping with is a prolific emotional abuser and racist, Verta blocked everyone and said she didn't want to get involved in "drama".

Now that someone within the group - a minor no less, who barely engaged with Verta herself during the course of her contact with them group, is being publicly dogpiled by multiple big creators - NOW Verta has the courage to come rear her head, engage in drama be like "they're all a bunch of sjws who hate white people!".

I find it extremely ironic how Verta is calling OP "fandom police" when Verta herself tried to gatekeep someone's identity/relationship to China....over hetalia art. Again I'm not in a place to judge rusame shippers considering the shit I ship and say - you can do what you want and I actually like cold war stuff myself. I'm too lazy to find the source, but I recall that a long time ago there was actually already an interview about a potential "Wapeach" and it was said that she was going to be based on Doronjo from Yatterman, the same way Waluigi is based on Boyakky from the same series.

I think I wrote this exact post before, but my memory is what it is, so this just me thinking about the retconning of a bunch of the rtd era early on in s5 and how one way I take it (so as not to get super annoyed tbh) is the s5-onwards as the doctor running so far from ten's arc that the universe responds and literally just deletes swaths of it from existence, which is the plot of s5 -- which is extra fascinating because 14 will be seeing donna again... you cannot outrun the past and it still exists inside of you (did you learn nothing from the year of hell and the war doctor) (also if it still exists inside of you, despite technically being "undone" does this mean that it exists in some type of memory-based pocket-universe in a way, I should rewatch the pandorica opens to see what the show says on that) (also jamie and zoe in the new doctor who specials vis a vis their memories of the doctor being erased and that erasure acknowledged as violence on the show proper and not "just" in the books/audio dramas) (something about memory and existence and this show continuing ever onwards)
