Would You Take a Walk on the World's Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge?
Looking like the narrow, rickety bridge in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, this bridge presents an adrenaline rush for those brave enough to traverse it. Thankfully it has solid Swiss engineering. Your reward is an amazing 360-degree view of the Swiss Alps, plus a gut wrenching view below you, as you stand 300 feet above the valley below. The Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge claims the…

CRYSTALLIS’ Astrid joins the ‘Running Man’ cast as they take over Switzerland
CRYSTALLIS’ ASTRID, Hong Jinyoung, Lee Dahee, and Lee Sangyeob join the Running Man cast as they travel to Europe.
The cast members and guests split up into two groups to take two very different trips abroad. Yoo Jaesuk, Lee Kwangsoo, Ji Sukjin, Jun Somin, Lee Sangyeob, and Lee Dahee got the “Shuddering Package” journey in England and went through a terrifying wing walking punishment, while Song Jihyo, Kim Jongkook, HaHa, Yang Sechan, Hong Jinyoung, and ASTRID traveled through Switzerland on a “Luxury Package” tour.
After suffering inclement weather, they enjoyed a fabulous trip consisting of heli-skiing and dishes prepared by a Michelin-star chef such as oysters and pork steaks with fresh ingredients imported from Italy. When it was time to settle the expenses, ASTRID and HaHa were chosen to foot the bill.
The staff offered one final mission for an opportunity to receive a refund. ASTRID and HaHa climbed up the mountain to the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge, the longest hanging bridge in the world. Despite his complaints in the beginning, HaHa was in awe when he saw the beautiful Swiss landscape and even thanked ASTRID, who adjusted to the bridge quickly and encouraged HaHa as they walked. They posed for selfies with a slug and a goat, and eventually reached the end of the bridge. To celebrate, ASTRID danced a little bit of CRYSTALLIS’ newest single “Butterfly” when they reached the end of the bridge.
CRYSTALLIS has recently concluded promotions for their latest mini album.
[ + / - ] astrid was so sweet to haha when they were crossing that bridge together! and omg, she was so brave for even suggesting it. she was also so funny, and her variety sense is amazing! no wonder these shows keep inviting her over. please invite her again for future episodes! Her chemistry with the cast is amazing.
[ + / - ] *yawn* astrid again? she’s trying too hard, and honestly, i don’t get why they had to make her do this in the middle of promotions. she should just stick to singing and dancing with the rest of her group instead of being out here and not really doing anything besides be pretty and cringey.

Day 19 - June 10, 2023: Zermatt
I slept in a little bit woke up to a ton of rain and low clouds. You couldn’t see anything. I was highly disappointed. I wanted to do the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and/or go hiking to the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge. I was told to not even bother going up to the peaks with heavy cloud coverage because you can’t see anything. I verified that with the webcam at the top. I also knew from experience the previous day that the rocks in Zermatt become quite slippery even with a small bit of rain. I looked online and the hike was not recommended in poor weather conditions due to the risk for slipping. Painfully, I decided to bag both Glacier Paradise and the hike to the suspension bridge.
I chose to do a more simple hike instead. I hiked along the Gorner Gorge. It was really stunning. I could barely hear myself think the water was rushing so loud. I only have one good picture but it went very beautiful and went quite a long way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ended up leaving the Gorge on the other side of the river and hiking along the river, eventually crossing into the town of Blatton. It was not a difficult hike but it was very beautiful. I also saw another highly rated restaurant that I assume hikers frequent. I chose not to stop though because I wasn’t hungry at the time. The trail went through the town and then passed some sheep and cows. Eventually, I made my way back into Zermatt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to stop off at my hostel but my room was getting cleaned. I had to make alternative plans. I tried to go to the Matterhorn museum because it was still raining quite a bit. Unfortunately, I learned it’s only open from 3-6pm. What!? Only in Switzerland does everything close early and barely stay open. I ended up finding a French Restaurant that began serving lunch and I couldn’t help but stop when I saw the menu. I ordered escargot followed by veal tartare. It was divine. A bit of a splurge but well worth it. I also used the time spent at the restaurant to catch up on my blog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had 30 minutes before the Matterhorn Museum opened so I ended up walking around some of the shops. I met a really interesting Swiss guy working at one of the outrageously priced outdoors shops and we had a great chat. He mentioned to me that double the amount of people have died on the Matterhorn compared to Mount Everest, 600 people on the Matterhorn compared to 300 people on Everest. He explained it’s usually during the descent because the rocks are loose at the top and people can slip if they aren’t careful. Crazy! Around 3pm, I made my way to the Matterhorn Museum. The Matterhorn Museum was quite interesting and a good way to kill an hour. I didn’t realize the Matterhorn became famous from 4 climbers dying just as they were about to reach the summit because the rope broke. The remains of the rope were still intact and present in the museum. The rope was very questionable if you ask me. One girl looked at me and goes, “Thats an awful thin rope to trust your life with.” I agree and that’s probably why it failed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was feeling very tired after the museum and decided to take a nap before hitting the town again. The weather finally cleared up and I managed to get a great photo with the Matterhorn. Have patience, make multiple plans, and expect unpredictable weather are the main things I’ve learned about Zermatt. Joys of mountain life.
Tumblr media
I ended the night at a pub watching the Champions League Final. I met a Scottish man whose daughter attended West Liberty and played soccer. I also met an Australian living in Bologna. It was a good night. Man City won as expected. The Norwegian girl checked out early to go to France but then couldn’t find a place to stay, which seemed dumb to me but whatever floats your boat. There was no one else in the room with me last night. It was amazing. I had a 4-bed en-suite all to myself. I’m beginning to think that the Norwegian girl booked the additional 2 beds because she wanted the room mostly to herself. Each bed was around $40. You could book all 4 beds and stay for $120. That’s not a bad deal in Zermatt. That’s probably why there were so many families staying in the 4 bed en-suite rooms.

Over the course of the COVID lockdowns - desperate for the outside world beyond my doorstep, city, state and country - I started crafting a project using entirely Google Maps Streetview Images. I viewed and downloaded the world from my desk, finding amazing spaces, altering, hand tracking and creating timelapses and shots. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of the material. Until I heard the latest album from Axel Boman. Here was a song from one of my favorite artists with such a propulsive and idealistic reaching out towards the wider world. Letting the wind take us, with love as the sail, a blur of adventure across the planet. Special thanks to Axel, Kornel and Studio Barnhus for the trust, a random plugin that let me download raw 360 images and Google for bringing the world to our screens. Take a walk on the Swiss wild side
Take a walk on the Swiss wild side
To begin your walk on the Swiss wild side, first bring yourself to Canton of Valais, southern Switzerland.

If you drive there by car from the northern side, you will probably get stuck in your car on a train wagon like this, at the entrance of the Lötschberg tunnel.

It’s Swiss National Day, and the citizens of Switzerland are taking the day off. They’re celebrating the 1291 confederation of regional cantons that led to the formation of their country. The nation first celebrated this milestone 600 years later, in 1891, but the day wasn’t declared an official holiday until 1994. Perhaps the Swiss are able to summon that level of patience as they cross the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge in the Alps near the village of Randa. At 1,621 feet, the bridge is currently ranked the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge. It’s also pretty high–at one point along the span, brave crossers are 279 feet above the ground. Just keep moving forward and maybe yodel a bit to distract yourself.

Bravery isn't quantifiable, but we think it can be pretty accurately measured in just one glance at the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge. As of its August 2017 opening, this structure is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge on the planet. It's beautiful, impressive, and vertigo-inducing. Would you cross?

World's "longest pedestrian suspension" bridge opens in Portugal
A pedestrian suspension bridge that claims to be the longest in the world, named 516 Arouca and measuring 516 metres in length, has opened in northern Portugal.
Built in the Arouca Geopark, the bridge is suspended 175 metres above the Paiva river and links two hills with granite cliff faces.
Top: the 516 Arouca bridge is 516-metres-long. Above: it stretches over the Pavia Gorge
The bridge was built by the Institute for Research and Technological Development for Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability as a tourist attraction for the Arouca area, providing views across the Pavia Gorge and toward the nearby Aguieiras Waterfall.
It is located next to the Paiva Walkways, an eight-kilometre-long trail that winds through the Arouca hills.
"A remarkable work of national engineering and will certainly be one of the most iconic structures in the municipality of Arouca and in the country and that will surely become a landmark of modernity," said Arouca's mayor Margarida Belém.
The walkway is made up of 127 interlocking metal cages
The structure is now Europe's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, surpassing Switzerland's 494-metre Charles Kuonen Bridge, which was completed in 2017.
The developers believe that the bridge is also the world's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, although the 567-metre Baglung Parbat Footbridge in Nepal also claims the title.
However, the Nepalese crossing is a "simple" or catenary suspension bridge, featuring a deck supported by, and following the same curve as, free-hanging cables.
By contrast, a regular suspension bridge, like the Portuguese one, features a deck supported by cables slung from elevated towers. The deck and cables follow different curves.
"It is the largest in the world, as we always said," said a representative for the Portuguese local authority. "With 516 meters in length, [and] an altitude from the water level of 175 meters, [it is] the highest in terms of construction and with more capacity."
The bridge is located in the Arouca Geopark
Concrete towers in the form of inverted A-shapes mark the landing points of the bridge and support two steel suspension cables, known as tensile cables, that support the steel walkway.
The suspension cables were fitted to the two highest points of the concrete towers and tied to the walkway decks with vertical cables.
The walkway was built as a collection of 127 interlocking metal-gridded decks that function as individual cells and are each connected to the suspension cables at two points.
Other record-breaking bridges include this glass-bottom bridge in China completed last year that currently holds the title of the world's longest glass-bottom bridge, taking the title from this 488-metre-long bridge also in China.
