#charging electric cars

As cold weather sweeps across the U.S., some electric vehicle owners are learning a bitter truth: Low temperatures can stop the cars dead in their icy tracks.
The issue crystallized this week when some Tesla owners in Chicago discovered their EVs' batteries had died in sub-zero temperatures. Drivers also said some of Tesla charging stations weren't working, or if they did work that the stations were taking longer than usual to charge up their vehicles.
“I've been here for over five hours at this point, and I still have not gotten to charge my car,” Tesla driver Brandon Welbourne told CBS Chicago. “A charge that should take 45 minutes is taking two hours.”
What happens to electric vehicles in cold weather?
Here's what to know.
Electric vehicles are less efficient in cold weather, with Recurrent's research finding that below-freezing temperatures reduced driving range up to 30% on 18 popular EV models.
An EV with a 200 to 215 mile range may only go 150 to 175 miles in the cold, Recurrent's Case said, while noting even that reduced mileage is often sufficient for most drivers. “The average person with an EV drives 30 miles a day,” he said.
Still, a shorter range in cold weather could be an issue for some owners if their EV runs out of juice miles earlier than expected, potentially leaving to hunt for an available charger or, worse, stranded in dangerously frigid conditions.

Nyobolt EV Concept, 2023. An electric sports car prototype designed by Julian Thomson based on the first generation Lotus Elise engineered by Callum with battery tech by Nyobolt that has a claimed charge time of 6 minutes.  Nyobolt has revealed new battery technology that is smaller, lighter and faster to charge. In the Nyobolt EV, set to weigh close to one tonne, this translates into a 35kWh battery that is capable of fully charging in 6 minutes with existing charging infrastructure, delivering a range of up to 250km. Nyobolt claims that its battery will enter production in early 2024 and is “ready to be adopted” across the automotive industry.

Electric cars are bad for the environment and it's fucking stupid as shit that people keep ignoring that. Making the gas powered pollution machine into a smart phone on wheels is still making it into a different, worse pollution machine. It just now includes even more child slavery, corporate surveillance, DRM, and taxing the poor.

i may still be hours away from home due to eclipse traffic like everyone else on earth, so i haven't seen any sort of memes yet dunking on everyone waiting for hours in huge lines to the tesla superchargers, but i just wanted to say: Please Don't

Electric vehicles are pretty cool.
Until you need to charge it and there isn't a station nearby.
Until the charging station nearby doesn't have the right plugs. (Like having the wrong charger for your phone, but instead it's a whole car.)
Until the charging station is broken.
Until the charging station is being used by someone else.
Until you forget to charge your car overnight.
Until the power goes out and you can't charge your car.
Until you have to drive in freezing temps without the heater because it immediately drops 10 miles off your range, and that 10 miles is what is making sure you get home.
I'm all for electric vehicles, but only if the infrastructure is there to make them practical.

Electric vehicles are (probably) not the moving technology of the future. But it's definitely necessary. At least until more optimal energy source technology is developed.
When we saw the electric vehicle trend slowing down, business results declined. Public opinion is causing a lot of pressure on "electric vehicles"
In my opinion, electric vehicles (vehicles using electric battery technology) are only a small factor about the vehicle's "power supply". In addition to source energy technology, autonomous technology, and transmission technology... will determine the future of transportation.
Electric vehicles are (probably) not the moving technology of the future. In the near future, electric vehicles will not yet be my choice. But certainly, the electric vehicle trend is necessary. Partly like developing products to meet consumer trends, a new product is launched to stimulate consumption. Another part is this transitional change process to technological innovation. We are slowing down & waiting too long to change traffic technology/ innovate  vehicle technology.
There are many problems that electric vehicles need to solve. *Lithium Battery | Production - recycling - regeneration of environmental resources. The destruction of resources and the environment from battery production as well as waste battery treatment. *Battery | Charging time & replacement performance. *Energy | Certain competitive advantage. Obviously, the advantage of electric energy is only in countries with high gasoline prices and a certain amount of abundant electricity. Therefore, there will be many innovations and replacements.
Future transportation with self-driving technology, transmission technology... and sustainable energy sources. This story is not just about transportation but may change the overall transportation infrastructure and transportation methods.
That is like changes in people's lifestyles and urban living spaces. Townhouse and apartment types appear when population density is high, construction technology also helps accelerate the development of high-rise urban living models. Residence types will change and adapt to the needs of modern life.

Po Town itself WAS punished by the Tapu or something before Team Skull took up resdence though, right? maybe there were proper roads before then, and they just abandoned them like the town?
yeah that would make sense! hmmm, I didn't find any paths that branch off and the mountains cutting off the area weren't created just to punish po town, it was just the rain in po town, and the town at the base of mt. lanakila that was smited 🤔🤔🤔
unless...... so like, ula'ula meadow and the lake of the [whichever] are obv. not tapu bulu's to smite, but maybe the two cursed areas were connected at some point but the destruction of the megamart was combined with destroying some roads??
Tumblr media
or maybe it was connected near mt. hokulani?
Tumblr media
there seems to have been at the very least some kind of mudslide there, but when I check in-game, there's no sign of a former road....... 🤔🤔🤔

Good news! I've bought my own car!
It's a 2012 Nissan Leaf. It is blue. It is so cute and so fun. I love it so fucking much. It's been running great for weeks (they let me drive it off the lot). It is my favorite car I've ever driven. Still waiting on the approval from the bank but my dealer is supposed to hear back on Monday or Tuesday for the loan approval.
Bad news! Went to get an anti-theft implement installed and then charged my car at the nissan port across the street and now the battery won't hold a charge! The dealer's service guys aren't in on Sunday so gotta wait till tomorrow before they can look at my car!
I also don't have insurance or even a license plate yet because I'm still waiting on the loan approval and didn't want to get those started without confirmation that the loan was approved! Because getting those when the deal hasn't been finished yet felt like a bad idea!
Fuck!
