WEEK 6: Social Media Influencers and the Slow Fashion Movement
1.What is slow fashion: Slow fashion is a sustainable approach to clothing consumption that emphasizes quality over quantity. This concept encourages individuals to invest in items that are durable and long-lasting, thereby reducing the need for frequent replacements (certilogo-commerce, n.d.). By opting for garments made from natural materials or recycled textiles, slow fashion promotes eco-friendly production practices that are less resource-intensive and more environmentally sustainable.
Tumblr media
In the realm of slow fashion production, a key focus is placed on utilizing high-quality materials and adopting environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. Natural fibers like cotton are commonly used, and production methods are designed to minimize pollution of water sources. Closed water systems are often employed to recycle water and prevent the release of harmful dyes into the environment. Additionally, partnering with local manufacturers helps to shorten supply chains and ensures better wages and working conditions for employees compared to factories in developing countries.
Tumblr media
Slow fashion consumption is gaining traction as more people become aware of the environmental impact of the fashion industry, particularly in relation to climate change. This shift in consumer behavior is leading to the emergence of more slow fashion labels that prioritize producing clothing of exceptional quality that withstands the test of time. These garments are designed to maintain their shape and color even after multiple washes, with simpler and timeless designs that transcend fleeting trends. Ultimately, the focus on longevity and durability in slow fashion leads to reduced consumption as individuals value and cherish their clothing for longer periods.
Tumblr media
Moreover, slow fashion extends beyond newly produced items to encompass second-hand clothing that is exchanged or sold, requiring no additional production. By embracing slow fashion principles, individuals can contribute to a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry while reducing their environmental footprint.
Tumblr media
2.Benefits of Slow Fashion
Investing in higher-quality materials, ethical production processes, and sustainability can bring various benefits for brands. Slow Fashion can lead to increased profitability as customers are willing to pay more for durable items, fostering repeat purchases and customer loyalty. Brands engaging in Slow Fashion often enjoy enhanced customer engagement and closer relationships with consumers, leading to increased brand awareness and improved reputation. By adopting sustainable practices, brands can attract economic resources, reduce their environmental impact, and promote ethical production.
Tumblr media
For consumers, Slow Fashion offers higher-quality products, longer-lasting wardrobe options, eco-friendly choices, ethical production standards, support for the local economy, and increased transparency in garment origins, empowering informed and sustainable purchasing decisions.
3.Fast Fashion vs. Slow Fashion
Tumblr media
Fast Fashion and Slow Fashion are two contrasting concepts. Fast Fashion aims to produce and sell a large number of items quickly to maximize profits, often overlooking environmental concerns and labor rights. In contrast, Slow Fashion seeks to address these issues by producing fashion in a fair manner that minimizes harm to the environment and ensures fair treatment of workers.
Tumblr media
You can liken the comparison between Fast Fashion and Slow Fashion to fast food versus healthy food. Fast food is quick to make in large quantities and may taste good, but it is widely known to be unhealthy. Similarly, Fast Fashion offers trendy, affordable clothing quickly, but it contributes significantly to environmental damage and climate change. On the other hand, Slow Fashion is akin to healthier eating: it involves more intricate production processes, is usually more expensive, but is far more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When comparing Fast Fashion and Slow Fashion, it's not just about price differences between cheap and expensive items. It's essential to consider that Slow Fashion garments are often of higher quality and can be worn for a longer time, making them more cost-effective in the long run as they do not need frequent replacements. Additionally, sustainable clothing from ethical brands is typically more affordable than designer labels, which may offer lower quality despite their high price tags.
Tumblr media
4.How Can You Join the Slow Fashion Movement?
Awareness of the challenges within the fashion industry has grown, but there is still much progress to be made. 74% of consumers acknowledge that their shopping habits significantly impact the environment, with 50% recognizing the harmful effects of fast fashion.Although being aware of the issues, 72% of people still opt for fast fashion because of its convenience and low prices. (ThredUp, 2022).
Transitioning away from conventional shopping habits can be challenging, but supporting the slow fashion movement is relatively straightforward, and it doesn't necessarily require purchasing new items.
1. Care for Your Clothes: Prolong the lifespan of your garments by adhering to care instructions. Consider washing clothes on lower heat settings and air-drying to conserve energy. Learning basic sewing skills and stain removal techniques can also help extend the wearability of your wardrobe. If you lack the time or expertise, professional repair services or repair cafes in your community can assist (rapidtransition.org, n.d.).
Tumblr media
2. Opt for Second-Hand Clothing: Embrace the trend of wearing second-hand clothing, which has shed its previous stigma. Thrifting is now widely accepted and even featured in prestigious fashion publications. Explore options such as borrowing from friends or family, participating in clothing swaps, or utilizing freecycling groups to acquire pre-loved items. Online platforms like Poshmark, Depop, Etsy, and Vestiaire Collective offer convenient access to unique vintage pieces.
Tumblr media
3. Shop Mindfully: Take a mindful approach to shopping by assessing your existing wardrobe before making new purchases. Avoid impulse shopping by considering whether you truly need additional items. Support local creators and opt for high-quality, sustainable fabrics that are easily recyclable or biodegradable. Be vigilant against greenwashing tactics by conducting research on brands through resources like the Good On You app, Fashion Revolution, and Fashion Takes Action.
Tumblr media
Remember that price tags do not always reflect quality or ethical practices. Some well-known brands have been implicated in unethical labor practices despite their high prices. By making informed choices and supporting sustainable practices, consumers can contribute to a more ethical and environmentally conscious fashion industry.

@stoneisland_official - Stone Island is aware of the existence of websites selling fake products. Some even reproduce the brand's trademark and are therefore particularly misleading for consumers. It is our priority to defend and protect our consumers and our brand image. This is why we have taken every possible action against the sale of fake products and shut down misleading sites, web pages and social network pages through legal action using two international companies specialising in the fight against counterfeiting: MarkMonitor and React. To inform us of a suspected counterfeit product or website, please e-mail [email protected] including a link to the site or the name and location of the retailer. Our official website is stoneisland.com - as well as the official Stone Island App in North America. Our sales site in the UK is stoneisland.co.uk. Colmar falso: come distinguerlo da quello vero
Nuovo post pubblicato su https://www.wdonna.it/colmar-falso-come-distinguerlo-da-quello-vero/110672?utm_source=TR&utm_medium=Tumblr&utm_campaign=110672
Colmar falso: come distinguerlo da quello vero
Tumblr media
Dicitura made in Italy

fake moncler women parka coats
Now this jacket had a soft, smooth luxurious feel to it and although it passed the test on all of the things to look for with a Moncler (Fiocchi snaps, Lampo zippers, tags) I was still not 100% sure I had bought a real one because I was uneducated on the subject or spotting a fake, but nonetheless I was happy with the purchase for $200.
Then I decided to get myself a fake moncler women parka coats Moncler jacket so I started looking around.  I ran across a site called iOffer which had a lot of Moncler listings.  I figured they might be fake but I saw a few photos that looked nice and I asked one seller who said he would be sending the exact same jacket as pictured so I paid about $180 for the jacket which was coming from China.  When it arrived it was a big disappointment, and it was definitely NOT the same jacket that was pictured.  This was another bait and switch like the first one I bought where they showed a photo of an authentic one and then sent a knock off.  I immediately filed a dispute through iOffer to get my money back but I had to pay almost $40 to ship it back to China.  What a rip off!
Well, over time I was still stuck on that first jacket with the fur hood that I had seen and I really wanted to get that for my girlfriend but an authentic one was $1200 and everything I saw on ebay made me suspicious of fakes so I continued to save my money.  The “Albertina” was now called an “Alpes” and through persistent searching of the web I found a site called farfetch.com which sold designer clothing directly from several European boutiques and I could get the “Alpes” from them for just over replica moncler jackets $900 so I went for it.  By this time Moncler had gone with the Certilogo system for identifying fakes and this jacket I bought was confirmed authentic, and it was nothing like that original fake “Albertina” I had bought off ebay.  This jacket was soft and light weight, the fur trim was real quality fur, and the entire jacket looked and felt like an expensive jacket should.
From there I became somewhat of a Moncler enthusiast, wanting so many other styles and colors for my girlfriend but not being able to just drop $800-900 at any given time so I went back to watching ebay and looking at all of the details, since I now had an authentic Moncler to compare to, and certilogo to confirm.  In April 2010 I found a brand new “Clairy” listed on ebay by some overstock seller with a starting bid of $100.  At the end of the auction I put in a $450 bid and was amazed when I actually won the auction for $165.  This was a brand new jacket, in a popular size (2) still with all of the tags, confirmed authentic by certilogo, and I got it for almost $600 less than it normally sells for.  What a steal!

What would be interesting to do is to explore how to create a digital tech pack for the base of these designs, the one from the physical world. Because this one we use nature as a force to create shaping based on simulations in a more practical way, there will still be some movement in these design. Interesting to explore how to show this in tech pack.
