Here at The Open Door, we are turning our attention to education for the next few episodes. This week (May 1) we will consider the growing trend of homeschooling. Our special guest is Patrice Fagnant-MacArthur. She is a lifelong Catholic who has been homeschooling her three children, two of whom are grown, for 17 years. In a welcome effort to provide both information and inspiration for homeschool families, she has managed, for over a decade, the Today's Catholic Homeschooling Website. From there folks can access her Homeschooling Resource Guide for free, along with a variety of helpful articles and book reviews. She herself has written a number of books, including The Crash Course Guide to Catholic Homeschooling. Patrice is a Member of the Catholic Writers' Guild and Catholic Library Association. She has a Master's Degree in Applied Theology and 20 years of experience working for the New Evangelization. Among the questions we’ll ask are the following. Please don’t hesitate to ask your own!
Perhaps we should begin by defining our terms. What is homeschooling? Simply doing school at home? What makes it "official"?
We are pretty sure homeschooling is on the rise, but do you have any stats that might help us understand the reality by the numbers?
What are the reasons people most often choose to homeschool, in your experience?
What are some common misconceptions about homeschooling?
No doubt some criticisms of some homeschoolers are on the mark. Do any examples come to mind?
Some families feel called to homeschool throughout high school, often with the support of local or online educational services to one degree or another. As more and more kids have become homeschool graduates, are there any notable, established outcomes we are seeing that reflect the positive potential of this educational path?
We’ve all heard about teacher burnout. Is there homeschooling burnout? If so, what are the causes...and remedies?
Homeschooling parents come from many backgrounds. Are there some conversations across different backgrounds that you think might be productive but perhaps do not yet see?
Parents are the first educators of their children, and children are not the mere creatures of the State. Doesn’t it follow that the State’s role in education should be carefully limited?
Any other food for thought you'd like to offer for our listeners?

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣➖ Day 183 of 366 Day 1 of Precious ❣️ Blood Novena 📆Wednesday, 01-07-2020 First Message of the First Lesson: Date: 📆Thursday, 01-03-2001 Time🕧: 12:30pm Venue: Desert of Mount Carmel, Olo. Theme: The Importance of Interior Life. During this hour, our Lord appeared to me in a vision and said: "My son, the knowledge of heaven is the hope of eternal life. The love of God is the ladder to heaven. Those whom their humanity overburdens cannot understand the mysteries of love. You cannot hear the voice of the spirit within your soul because you are nearer to your true living being. (Truly, I understand clearly the lesson of the sprit within my soul). A pure soul sees clearly the meaning of life, and lives in true joy. 'Remain closer and closer to your true living being'. Listen to the voice of your soul and learn about heaven. I leave you not to disturb your lesson. I bless you". Immediately, the vision passed, and there was a heaven rainfall That was Jesus' message in a vision to Bro Barnabas Nyowe. Jesus talked about what matters most having a pure soul, in order that we can come to understand the true meaning of life, and live a life of true joy. In John 15, Jesus said, "I have said all these that your joy may be complete" asking his disciples to remain in him, bearing fruits and never be cut off. We must through away the burden of our humanity and accept or shoulder the York of Christ, which easy and light. #mostpreciousblood #mostpreciousblood #jcharismaonlinestore #preciousblood #catholicgifts #catholiclife #iamromancatholic #romancatholicchurch #catholiccompany #catholichomeschool https://www.instagram.com/p/CCG-8nmD6hN/?igshid=uccttxeqp0kh

Self portraits will keep you humble 😆 Seriously though, it was an interesting day listening to 3 yo to 13 yo responses to themselves on paper. Already so many self-doubts, “I look like an ogre!” “My nose is too big” “This looks nothing like me!” What matters most is not how you see yourself but how much you see that God loves you exactly the way you are ❤️💛💙 You could never make an image of yourself that is perfect but God can make you into an image of Himself that is. You’re already perfect in His sight. It’s true. It’s how He sees you. Accept the way He made you and fall in love with His image in you and you’ll never have to waste another word or thought on self-image doubts. He’s drawn you perfect. Quit trying to add to His image. We tell the children, ‘There are no imperfections in art.’ Neither are there any God’s made in you. #PonderThat #madeinHisimage #Godsmasterpiece #kids eedmoreart #homeschoollessons #catholichomeschool #catholicschoolhouse #artimitateslife #lifeimitatesart #GodisanArtist https://www.instagram.com/p/B2epUPGgx9-/?igshid=1lat63mup3i6l

Our main activity in Sundays is to attend Mass. This week, we took a drive to Bay St. Louis on the coast to join other Catholic homeschool families marking the start of the school year. It has been a few years since we attended a Latin Mass. Such beauty and reverence. And this older church is gorgeous inside. Grateful we were able to make the trek and join the others. . . . #CatholicLife #CatholicBlogger #LatinMass #MississippiLife #SouthernMississippi #BayStLouisMS #OurLadyoftheGulf #CatholicHomeschooler https://instagr.am/p/CS5PinnMWqn/

Now that we are in Mississippi, I need to map out the start of the homeschool year. . This is some of the books for my 5th grader. Science is at my parents house to pick up. Math is on the shelf as he started that book this spring. History still in a box. . Also need to gather up materials for my 12th grader. . But it is hard to focus some days. . Especially when going on little sleep. . I haven't used mostly materials from Catholic Heritage Curricula in over a decade. So looking forward to it as the approach is more gentle. A few things (literature and art) are completely new. . I just might write up reviews later this fall. . Have you started the school year yet? . . #homeschoollookslikethis #HomeschoolPlanning #HomeschoolPrep #CatholicHomeschooler #HomeschoolCurriculum via Instagram https://instagr.am/p/CD69nMFpCug/
