TMI/TSC OC (Cathan Morgenstern)
form adapted from this template!
BASIC
Name: Cathan [KUH-hahn] Morgenstern
Birthplace: Idris (Morgenstern Manor)
Birthday: Nov. 15, 1988 (19 in 2007)
Race: Idrisian (Human; affected by time in the Faerieland)
Gender: Cis Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
APPEARANCE
Overall: Cathan appears to be a tall (5'10") man in good shape for his age and height. He is lightly toned due to occasional exercise (dancing and sex more than training). His skin is pale since he’s usually inside his shaded hideaway or a club. His eyes are a light green, always lined in black or a metallic color. His wavy hair is typically level with his chin and is a copper color. His ears are pointed and pierced. Cathan loves to wear what would be considered clothes from the Romantic era: (open or sheer) shirts with flowing sleeves, low-waisted pants, things with ribbons…all in a nature-inspired palette.
FC: Cody Fern
BACKGROUND
Cathan is the “lost” Morgenstern child. He was born to Valentine and Jocelyn prematurely, so weak that hardly anyone thought he’d survive the night. His father had already promised his firstborn to the Seelie in exchange for magical secrets, so Valentine took the boy and gave him to the faerie messenger that night without regret. Jocelyn was told that her son had died and been sent to the Silent City. Meanwhile, Cathan was gifted to a couple Dáire [Daw-ruh] and Fiachra [Ph-yee-kra] by the Seelie Queen. Faerie have a hard time conceiving, so they were happy, especially since they’d received a present from their monarch. Though they loved him, Cathan was initially teased growing up, because everyone knew he was Nephilim. Being raised in the Faerieland gave him pointed ears and the ability to effortlessly wield fey magic. So, although he could use angelic runes, he never did. Instead, he learned to speak the way his new people did, and be beautiful and cruel all at once. The Queen, who occasionally checks on her “nephew”, praises him for his good looks and clever tongue. Sometimes she gives him pretty clothes, jewelry, and paints. He's a prince in every way but the one that matters.
(plot dependent) He learns about his siblings through his people’s gossip. Cathan isn’t sure if he wants to know them, but he does want to kill his Shadowhunter parents. At least, that’s his excuse for going to find them.
PERSONALITY
Overall: Cathan has learned to present himself as a faerie to most and conceal his true self for his lovers. This means that he is hedonistic (which his culture accepts), but he knows how to navigate conversations which typically involve as much small talk as they do veiled insults. He also is not above flirting to get what he wants. His biggest flaw is probably his feelings towards his “aunt”, the Seelie Queen. If, for example, someone insults one of his friends and/or entourage, he won’t acknowledge it in public. He might even laugh it off, because that’s what he’s learned to do, and then he’ll comfort the friend in private. In addition, if there’s a secret he learns, he’ll tell the Queen, because she’s shown him more love than even his parents have on some occasions. He gets exasperated by the whole act of being in public, though, and retreats to his hideaway to paint and relax with his lovers (he’s polyamorous, but he only has feelings for a select few). With them, he’s himself: compassionate, silly, delicate, submissive, and free.
Hobbies: partying, painting, having sex
Fear(s): losing someone he genuinely loves, either because they’re killed or because they choose to cut him out of their life
NEPHILIM TRAITS
Familial Symbol: (canonically) a band of stars, referring to the translation of the name Morgenstern, which means “morning star”

FAVOURITES
Food: best described as fish resembling salmon

Colour: black, though he says red
Season: summer
Scent: vanilla
Music: 90s pop (he’s been to mundane clubs)

not every face is a friendly one
Jas was used to the subtle rush of confidence & determination (no, not adrenaline, that wore off too quickly & was therefore unreliable) thrumming under her skin. She had yet another job to execute & another target to take down. But she had to find him first. Thankfully, Valentine Morgenstern (who she’d stab in the back as soon as he paid her) had given her an excellent description of Jace Herondale. On top of that, Jace was famous for having helped rediscover the Mortal Cup, so everyone knew which house he was living in. It wasn’t hard for her to catch him on the street by himself.
“You’re not from around here. I’d remember if I’d seen you before,” she told him, a flirtatious smile on her face, “I’m Jasmine Silverhand, but I go by Jas. Jas, not Jaz. What do I call you?” Lying & acting were things she was used to. She was just afraid that the glamour hiding her demonic runes & her color-changing hair might wear off in front of someone.
Cathan had just finished a boring meeting with a few members of the Clave (the Shadowhunter government). He knew that he was in the city to negotiate a temporary truce between the Seelie & the Nephilim, but he was used to trips outside the Fey-world being fun. On occasion, he & some other fey would go into human clubs, smiling, drinking & dancing. They used glamours to hide any inhuman characteristics. People always found him to be handsome & charming, so it was weird, sitting in a room full of stoic Shadowhunters. He was glad to meet everyone he'd be dealing with, but he also craved adventure, sex & a good laugh.
Steps outside of the embassy, Cathan did a few simple stretches, since he was feeling stiff. He easily caught the attention of two women who were passing by & his wink made them giggle. Maybe his time in Alicante wouldn't be so bad, after all, he decided. He heard the doors creak behind him, opening to reveal another person. On impulse, he turned to see who it was.

shadowhunters/mortal instruments OC
form adapted from this template!
BASIC
Name: Jasmine "Jas" Katriora Wayland
Birthplace: within the boundaries of the Seelie Faerieland
Birthday: Sept. 15, 1988 (biologically 17/chronologically 19 in 2007)
Race: African-British (Nephilim) & Seelie (Nixie)
Sexuality: Bisexual
Gender: Cisfemale
APPEARANCE
Jasmine appears to be a petite (5'3") woman in good shape for her age and height. She is toned, due to her frequent exercise. Her light brown skin hints towards her father's African heritage. Her eyes are dark green, nearly passing for dark brown or black, depending on the lighting. Her wavy hair, which typically meets her collarbone, turns various shades of blue corresponding with her mood (it lightens as she cheers up), hinting towards her mother's nixie heritage. Her ears are also slightly pointed. Jas only wears clothes other than her black and grey training or fighting gear (which resembles patchwork Shadowhunter gear) when she's going undercover or visiting a (rare) friend. She never wears white, as white is traditionally worn at Shadowhunter funerals.
FC: Kat Graham
BACKGROUND (be descriptive)
Jasmine was born to Ethan Wayland, a Shadowhunter who became Michael Wayland's brother when his mom remarried, and Líadan, a Nixie who served as a handmaiden to the Seelie Queen. Her parents had met when Ethan was supposed to be spying on the Seelie for the Clave...yeah, well, instead he fell in love with Jas's mom. They raised their little girl in secret, happily teaching her to swim, walk, and speak their languages. But then their respective sides deemed them both traitors. Líadan was exiled to the Unseelie territories, a sentence worse than death for Seelie. Ethan ended up on the run with Jas after being charged with treason. Before Michael died, he and Ethan used to send each other fire messaged postcards, but Michael stopped as the Circle became more violent towards Downworlders, as he knew about both Líadan & baby Jas. So, Ethan & Jas didn't learn about their relative's death for some time. The two would travel the world as he taught her to hunt, never befriend anyone, and kill any Shadowhunters who came into their path. Unfortunately, when Jas got her first angelic rune (Voyance), the thing burned her hand and made her fall terribly ill. Long story short, Magnus Bane saved her life, suggesting that she use demonic runes drawn on with a special bronze stele. This worked due to her fey blood, and Jas had what she'd call a decent life with her father until he sacrificed himself to save her on a hunt when she was 15. Now she uses faerie magic, her runes, and her skills to hunt for money. Her vampire ex-girlfriend, Selene, is her broker who is commonly found at Club Pandemonium. Jas also has a FWB/informant relationship with the Nephilim raised by Seelie, Cathan Morgenstern (OC). She later learns that her mom, Líadan, lived to become a lover of the Unseelie King and mother to Kieran Kingson. This makes Jas and Kieran half-siblings (she's technically 4 years older than him, by Earth standards).
(in most instances; TW for topics similar to drug addiction) Jas used to have a sexual & reciprocal informant relationship with a vampire named Selene. Now Selene serves as the middleman for Jas's "business", negotiating prices and moving money around for her ex-lover. She also (consensually) bites Jas when she visits her in Club Pandemonium, as Jas uses the natural venom/aphrodisiac in a vampire's saliva to relax after hard missions. It could be said that Jas has somewhat of a "drug problem" as far as this is concerned.
(depending on partner's comfort; TW for mention of some gore/bladed violence & non-con) In the past, I've written that Jas meets Sebastian prior to City of Ashes. They consensually sleep together. Then he, via his father, offers her money to help the Morgensterns. Knowing their disdain for Downworlders (& their overall evil), she tries to leave, but Sebastian surprises her in a fight that she loses. He proceeds to force her to sleep with him again, then he chains her where Valentine used to chain him, in the magical apartment. While she's down there, he carves the word "MINE" into the skin of her stomach. Her fear of Sebastian makes her work for him...for a while.
If you aren't comfortable with writing Sebastian doing these things to her, we can simply say that he beat her in a fight & then, afraid, she ran from him using mundane transportation. I only created this possible course of action because it, to me, seems very realistic considering his canon behavior & general personality traits.
PERSONALITY
Overall: Jas trusts few, due to how she was raised. She can count the number of people she'd trust with her life on one hand, yet in the past, she has forsaken her payment to save innocent lives. She has been forced to hone her independent and resourceful streaks, but she truly does love learning. Around most others, she tends to be blunt, judgmental, and stubborn, since she's not a fan of group work or for letting someone else mess up what she thinks she could do properly on the first try. She's happiest when she's using her brain to do something productive, or (on the rare occasion when) she feels safe enough to slow down & hang out with someone she trusts (like Magnus).
Hobbies: reading, forging weapons, dancing
Fear(s): being betrayed, trusting too much
NEPHILIM TRAITS

Drink: peppermint tea
Colour: bubblegum pink

Mortal Instruments Medieval Fantasy AU
what I wouldn't do for a Medieval Fantasy AU where the Lightwoods, Morgensterns & Herondales are all nobles descending from actual angels, while the Waylands are part of Alicante/Idris's City Watch & ofc Magnus is the High Warlock/magic advisor person--
Oraia as a playful nymph or a "fallen goddess" (god from another pantheon who's weakened)--
Cathan as the lost Morgenstern heir, who's busy fucking around with the fey--
Jas as a knight in the Watch, who's also the Wayland heir & eventually Jace's personal bodyguard because I deserve to see it--
Demons could either be from a specific evil country, or from the dimension Pandemonium like in the books.

who are we, really?
Just like in the others, Jas didn’t realize she was dreaming. But it wasn’t because her conscious mind was confused…it was because she was enjoying herself too much to care. She loved Jace Herondale, and he looked at her as if she were a princess. Well, they were on Naboo, the beautiful planet featured in the 2nd Star Wars prequel movie. The sun had begun to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and lilac.
But instead of sitting and laughing in the grass, like Padmé and Anakin had done in Star Wars: Episode II, Jas and Jace were racing. They both were riding atop muscular, multicolored horses that were modeled after My Little Ponies. The steeds galloped through the grass, and Jas’s hair had gone from its usual dark brown to a bright blue, echoing her excitement. Jace managed to pass the stump they’d marked right before she did, making him the winner. Jas sighed and dismounted, walking over to where Jace was.
“Fine, you win,” she said, smiling despite the loss.
---
Cathan had always known that he was a Nephilim. His parents told him the truth as soon as he was old enough to understand what that meant. The Seelie Court knew what he was because gossip always spread quickly. So when he was little, the faerie children teased him. They did until he grew up, and learned how to speak with stinging eloquence, how to impress others with his beauty and paintings, and most of all, how to hide when someone had hurt his feelings. And despite his ability to bear angelic runes, he never memorized or used any of them. Faerie magic and a concealed dagger were protection enough. Besides, the Queen treated him like a prince, giving him compliments and tangible gifts. All he had to do was be loyal, telling her whenever someone in her court posed a danger to her.
He'd used his Shadowhunter last name, "Morgenstern", all his life. The faerie couple who'd raised him were never cruel to him, but they never seemed like anything more than acquaintances or caretakers. So when the Seelie Queen told Cathan that one of her spies had seen his biological mother be taken to a hospital...his curiosity was piqued. Instead of going to the hospital, though, he went to the apartment building she'd been taken out of. He wasn't sure if he wanted to see his mother yet. Cathan wanted to confront her and ask why she and his father sold him, but...he wanted to know if she liked art, like he did. When he got to Jocelyn Morgenstern's home, though...he froze.
