Never Go To Bed Angry (Leila Ouahabi x reader)
Tumblr media
International break is something that you always look forward to. Playing in Spain meant that you didn’t see your England team mates as often as the other girls did, well Rachael was in the same boat as you.
When the Arnold cup was announced, saying you were excited would have been a major understatement. It would be a tournament similar to the SheBelieves, it would be hosted in England and it would be perfect practice for the Euros as the teams taking part would be England, Germany, Canada and Spain.
It was the Spain game that you were looking forward to the most. It had been almost two years since you had played against some of your closest friends from Barcelona and you were ready for the challenge.
It is game day in Norwich and you are ready to take on Spain. You are filled with confidence as you make you way to breakfast.
“Keep an eye out for number 15” Ellie tells the table which catches your attention as that is your girlfriend well your now wife’s number.
“You mean Y/N’s girlfriend” Keira tells the team.
The younger players look at you, they know you keep your personal life private due to the spotlight that you are in. You briefly nod your head telling them that Kiera is telling the truth.
“Wait, does that mean you are coming to England too” Hempo asks which catches you off guard.
“No” you say much to the disappointment of your team mates.
“So you’re going to try the long distance thing then?” Ellie continues.
You look around the table to see if anyone else is as confused as you, much to your surprise the majority of the Manchester City players seem to know what Ellie and Lauren are talking about.
“It’s early, I am yet to finish my coffee so I am going to need you to give me more info” you say looking at the women who call Manchester blue.
“We heard the coaching staff talking about a new defender a few weeks ago, they mentioned Leila’s name last week. They didn’t know we were waiting outside the meeting room” Lucy tells you.
You cannot know for certain but you are pretty sure that the colour drains from your face after hearing what the England defender tells you. You knew that Leila’s contract would be up at the end of the season but you never for once thought that she would leave Barcelona never mind Spain. Your mind begins to wonder, suddenly you remember the private phone calls and the secret meetings. Could your team mates be telling the truth? And if so why hadn’t Leila told you.
It is only when you feel a hand on your shoulder, making you jump, you realise that you must have zoned out.
“I need to go, I have a meeting with Sarina” you say abruptly, knowing that the players who know you well will see right through your lie.
Just before you leave for the stadium you phone rings, seeing it is Leila you decline the call. Even after that, she texts you but you don’t respond. You need to think things over and you know that right now if you were to speak to her you would most likely say things you will regret.
*********************************
A few hours later you and the rest of the team arrive at Carrow Road. You drop your bags off in the locker room before heading out for the pitch inspection.
“Looks like they beat us to it” Leah tells you.
When you reach the end of the tunnel you see some the of the Spain team already on the pitch.
“It will be the only time the beat us today” you are confident going into the game especially because you knew how many fans would be in attendance.
“I like it when your cocky but less so when it is against us” you hear her voice before you see her face, when you turn around you see the woman you have missed so dearly and for a brief moment you forget about her possible secret keeping.
It is when Leila leans in for a quick kiss that you show your hand. You dodge her kiss, instead of getting your lips, her own meet your cheek. The look of hurt on her face is evident, you never turned down a kiss from her, if she didn’t know you were mad with her before, she definitely did now.
“Hi” you say blatantly “You remember Leah?” You ask.
You watch as the two of them make small talk all whilst your eyes stay locked on Leila.
When you feel Leila reach for your hand that is when you realise Leah is no longer by your side. You want to pull away but you have missed her touch so much. It is something your Barcelona team mates tease you for, when ever the two of you are near each other you are always touching, whether it is a hand on one another’s thigh, having your hands intertwined or even something so minor like when you have a drinks break you always stand near Leila with your hand on the small of her back.
“Are you ok? Is something wrong?” She asks clearly concerned which angers you, how can she stand there and act dumb.
“I don’t know Leila, you tell me” you snap “actually instead of talking to me, why don’t you go talk to Ellen, Georgia or better yet Alex seen as though you will be playing with them next season’
You feel your throat close up so pull away from Leila in order to regain control of your emotions.
“Y/N” she begs you to hear her out but you have no interest in letting her do so.
“No Leila” you say. You look around to seeing that you have gained the attention of both your England team mates and her Spain team mates leading you to whisper the next part “We made vows, no secrets, always be truthful to one another. Clearly those meant nothing to you”
You walk away before she has the chance to reply.
“Let me guess, she found of about the contract negotiations?” Alexia asks and Leila simply nods in response “I told you that you should tell her before she”
Leila cuts Alexia off.
“I know Ale, I know and you saying ‘I told you so” doesn’t help” Leila replies. She walks down the tunnel hoping to speak to you but when she gets to the England locker room she is denied entry.
“You and I both know that I won’t let you in there” Lucy says “but I will try and get her to talk to you after the game” the defender says in attempt comfort the spaniard.
“Thank you” Leila says before heading into her own locker room.
The game ends in a tie with neither team able to score, both sides are frustrated with not being able to find the back of the net so when the final whistle blows you want to leave the pitch as soon as possible.
You shake hands with the Spanish team and make quick conversation with your Barca team mates. It must be a personal record for on pitch time post game. You think you have got away with talking to Leila as you didn’t see her on the pitch, even when you didn’t mean to you always looked for her but you aren’t quite lucky as you find her waiting for you by the tunnel.
“Please talk to me” she asks hoping for even a minute of your time.
“Not here” you grabbed her hand and pulled her towards a treatment room at the end of the hall where the locker rooms are.
You open the door, stepping aside so that Leila can enter first. Once the door is closed she turns to face you only to find that you already have tears in your eyes.
“How could you not tell me? Do you know how hurtful it was finding out from my team mates, well I suppose they’re your team mates now aren’t they?” You know that last part was petty but you didn’t care.
“You know my contract is up” she tells you.
“Yes I do. What I didn’t know is that you are leaving the country” you snap.
Leila jumps at your raised tone, something that is very rare. You are one of the calmest people she has ever met so your reaction told her just how much she had hurt you.
“I have only had a few meetings” she tells you.
“A few” you mumble “I thought it was only one, maybe two. Did you not think it right to talk to me about this?”
“I knew that you would want me to stay and I needed to make this decision alone”
“Alone!” Once again you raise your voice.
“Yes. Listen, I don’t expect you to understand what it’s like, you have a starting spot and for the majority of the games you play the full 90 minutes, do you know what I would give to have that”
“So this is punishment for being a starter! You’re jealous, that is what this is. You are pissed that I get to minutes and you don’t. You are so selfish”
Leila doesn’t reply, she didn’t know how so instead the two of you stand there in silence. The conversation was going nowhere and your team mates were probably waiting for you.
“I have one more question. How long have these talks been going on for?” You ask seeking the truth.
“Manchester City contacted my manager last off season” she tells you.
“Unbelievable” you say barely a whisper.
“The first meeting was during Christmas break and I had another one last month” Leila knows how bad what she is saying sounds but she can’t sugarcoat it.
“We stood in front of our friends and promised each other a lifetime together, you looked me in the eyes and said you can’t wait to wake up to me every morning. You said this whilst knowing it won’t happen, you lied to my face Leila” you are fully aware that tears are streaming down your face but you made no effort to wipe them away.
You stand there waiting for her to say something but it doesn’t happen. Instead you hear a knock on the door. When you open it you face to face with Jenni who clearly drew the short straw and was tasked to get the two of you.
“I hate to interrupt but we are ready to head back to St George’s Park now” the dark haired forward says.
“You aren’t interrupting anything, this is over” you say looking at Leila.
“Wait, what? Over, what are you talking about?” Leila says to you but you ignore her as you head back into your locker room.
Leila tries to run after you but Jenni grabs her hand.
“Leila, Listen to me” Jenni says as you places her hands on the defenders shoulders “I know you want to chase after her but we both know how Y/N gets when something like this happens. Give her space, the England team will be at SGP tomorrow, you can talk to her then”
Jenni’s words do the trick because instead of following you into the England lock room Leila heads into her own.
*****************************
The England team arrive back at the hotel in Norwich. A lot of the players decide to have a night in their rooms as they have a leave early to next morning.
“Y/N stop pacing. I know you do it when you are mad but you are doing my head in” Lucy, who you are sharing a room with, says.
“This is bad Luce. Why wouldn’t she tell be about the offers?” You say as you flop down on your bed.
“Cause you handled it so well?” She says, her voice full of sarcasm.
If looks could kill, Lucy would be dead on her bed.
“Ok, ok” the defender says holding her hands up in defence “I heard some of what you said in the treatment room. You didn’t really let her explain did you?”
“Of course you would be on her side, she is joining you at city”
“Who says I staying at city? My contract is up at the end of the season too”
“Wait, really?” You say shocked but you are quick to realise that Lucy is in the same boat as Leila, meaning that Kiera is in the same boat as you “Have you spoken with Kiera about your options?”
Lucy nods her head thus proofing your point.
“Can I say something?” Lucys asks and you nod “You said some pretty shitty things Y/N”
“I know” you looks at the ground ashamed about how you handled the situation “I have tried calling her but she won’t answer”
“Just give her the night Y/N, speak to her in the morning” Lucy tells you “I am going to go to Kiera’s room, let you have some time to yourself. Don’t do anything rash”
You just hum in response. You know it is solid advice but you hate it whenever you argue with Leila and this could be your biggest fight yet.
It is around 7pm when the idea comes to you, only you know that you cannot do it by yourself.
“I’m going to SGP and I need you to cover for me” you tell Lucy when you knock on her girlfriends room.
“What happened to no rash decisions” she sighs whilst moving aside to allow you access to the room.
“I don’t care. We made vows”
“Wait you’re married?” Kiera asks, suddenly very interested in the conversation.
“I still have the car keys from when we went shopping yesterday. All I need you to do is make sure people don’t find out I have left the hotel” you explain your plan, ignoring the red haired woman’s question.
“What happens when we get on the coach tomorrow and you aren’t there, then what am I suppose to do?” Lucy asks.
“That won’t happen. I am going to drive there, make things right and then come back”
Lucy and Kiera agree to go along with your plan. You quickly go back to your room, grab your wallet and car keys put on a hoodie and begin your 3 hour road trip to England HQ.
The journey ride is quick as there aren’t many cars on the road. You know that you won’t be able to go completely unnoticed as the security will see you arrive but you ask them to keep your visit a secret, something they do happily for one of the countries star players. You pull up outside the building where the Spain team are staying.
“Y/N, I thought you and the rest of the team aren’t due until tomorrow” Aileen the receptionist tells you.
“We aren’t, I’m here to see a friend”
“Does it happen to be your Spanish girlfriend?” She asks you.
Aileen has been a reception a St George’s Park since you joined the team so you don’t mind her nosiness.
“It does. What would I have to do to get her room number?” You ask and you know that she shouldn’t give you the information you need but you hope that she will make an exception.
“You know I’m not allowed to give that information Y/N” she says and the look of defeat must be obvious on your face “but I can tell that this must be important if you risked getting benched by coming here”
“It is very important, more than you can imagine” you beg.
“It is Leila Ouahabi right?” She asks and you nod “She is in room 319”
You are about to walk away “one more thing”
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone you are here”
“Thank you” you say as you head to where the rooms are.
When you look at your phone you say it is almost midnight, meaning the team should be in their rooms. Still you tip toe around the building as if this is mission impossible.
As you you get the third you floor you try calling Leila once more. Hopefully if she answers you can keep your visit between the two of us but it is to avail, leaving you only one option, knock on her door.
You knock once, no answer, you knock again only gentler as you realise that they are probably asleep. You don’t knock a third time, walking away you begin to regret you decision in coming here.
“Y/N” you turn when you hear your name being called, recognising the voice straight away.
“Hi” you whisper “I didn’t mean to wake you but I needed to see you, I needed to tell you I’m sorry” you tell her.
Leila walks back in her room leaving you alone in the hallway. You fear the worst until she comes back out wearing a pair of sliders and a hoodie, your hoodie. She sees the smugness on your face when you recognise the article of clothing.
“I hid it when you packed. What can I say, it’s my favourite” she explains causing you to let out a small chuckle.
“Funny that, it is my favourite too” you say “Take a walk with me?” You ask as you hold out you hand, a way of finding out how hurt she is, much to your relief she takes it, intertwining her fingers with yours.
You lead her out of the building, winking at Aileen as you pass her mentally thanking her once more.
“I’m sorry” the two of you say at the same time.
“Can I go first?” She asks you and you nod your head.
“I never wanted to hurt you Y/N. When I found out that Barcelona might not renew my contract I was heartbroken. Barcelona is my team, the city is my home and then there is you. The woman that stole my heart the first day I met her and here I am with the possibility that I might have to leave you” you tense up at the wording, the look on your face conveys your panic and Leila knows it “I don’t mean it like that, I wouldn’t leave you”
You feel yourself relax at her statement, hearing her say out loud that she wouldn’t leave you brings you comfort you didn’t know you needed.
“The decision isn’t one that I have made likely, at this point it isn’t even a decision I have officially made. My manager is still in talks with Barcelona, trying to get me a new contract. My meetings with Manchester City have only been a precaution, a plan b if you will. I know I should have talked to you about it, and I wanted to I really did, but I knew that once I did then it becomes real and that terrifies me. Like you said at the stadium, we have just started this new chapter in our lives and this move would change everything” Leila then sighed letting her head drop as she felt tears fall down her face.
You stop walking making Leila look up at you, you stoke your thumbs over her cheeks wiping her tears as you do so. You then place a soft gentle kiss on her lips, your only aim to bring her small piece of calm in a moment which is clearly causing her hurt.
“I’m not upset that you are moving, well I am but that isn’t what caused my reaction” you begin walking again knowing that it will be easier to say what you need to say if you keep moving “I hated that you didn’t talk to me about it, I hated that I found out from people who you have never met. It hurt that a stranger knew about this huge decision whilst I was left in the dark. It made me feel like I didn’t matter to you” you say making your insecurities known.
“Y/N you mean everything to me, that is why it has been so hard to talk to you about this” Leila reassures you.
“You know that I will support you not matter what but if you play for Manchester City I won’t be able to wear your jersey. The best I can offer is to wear your Spain shirt when I visit”
Leila laughs at your statement knowing full well that you have been a die hard Arsenal fans since you were born. You hated cheering on Barcelona when you first moved to the city as you felt like you were cheating on your gunners.
“You’ll come and visit me?” Leila ask you.
“Of course I will Leila. When you move to City”
“If I move” she corrects you.
“Ok. If you move to city, then it will be difficult but we will work it out. Me and you are in it for the long haul” you say holding up your ring finger.
“So we will be ok?” It is more of a question than a statement.
“We will”
Around 20 minutes later you arrive back at the the main building, ever the gentlewoman you walk Leila back to her room.
“I still can’t believe you drove all the way here and now you are going to drive to Norwich only to come her with the team in several hours”
“Leila, before we said I do I made you a promise “you hold both her hands in yours as you say the next part “I promise to never go to bed angry” you repeat the words you said to her mere months ago.
“I love you, I hope you know that” Leila tells you as she wraps her arms around your shoulders, yours resting on her hips out of habit.
“I know you do” you kiss her sweetly “I love you”
Leila is the one to initiate the next kiss, this one more passionate. The way your lips moved, it was like they were made for each other. You never had this connection with anyone other than Leila and you loved it.
Leila watches you walk away.
“Leila” you turn around and walk back to her “I don’t like it when I take my ring off. I want to start taping in when I play. Is that ok with you?”
“Y/N, you don’t have to ask for my permission to wear your wedding ring. How about we tell our our team mates tomorrow and then we will tell the rest of the world?”
“I like that idea very much. Time to tell the world that Leila Ouahabi is off the market”
“Leila Ouahabi-Y/LN” her correction and acknowledgement of her new name brings a huge smile to your face.
The next day you arrive at St George’s park again, this time a lot more tired due to only having a few hours sleep. You and Leila ask for a meeting with both teams where you tell them your news, everyone congratulates the two of you and the coaches even allow a small party seen as though both teams don’t play for a couple more days.

Still running, but only just.
With less than a month of the season left North End are still hanging in there in the battle to reach the top six. Norwich City are the team everyone is chasing in that sixth spot and the Canaries are next up to visit Deepdale this Saturday. North End`s interest in the end of season lottery was maintained after a thumping 4-1 win against Huddersfield Town and Norwich conceding a two goal lead to only draw at Sheffield Wednesday. At half time the difference was ten points and North End were gone but at full time the difference was only five points with Norwich coming to Deepdale this weekend and North End then playing their game in hand at Southampton next Tuesday evening. Of course there are other runners such as Hull, Middlesbrough, Coventry and, of course, Norwich themselves so it is not cut and dried but I think North End need to beat Norwich and win three out of the other four games to be in with a chance.
Last Saturday we went to Watford for our annual Gentry Day celebration and while off the pitch we were Premier League class I am afraid on the pitch we were mediocre given the circumstances surrounding the game. The Hornets had a couple of decent players it has to be said but you could see why they have not won at home since last November. North End probably only had two decent chances in the game via Hughes and Keane and I just thought we would show more hunger to take the three points than we did. The draw was a fair result on the day but we really must win games like this if we are to have any chance.
Only Tuesday evening the faithful at Deepdale were treated to a late, late show via Mulitin Osmajic. The big Montenegrin striker score a seven minute hat-trick in the last part of the game to turn round an encounter that was not going North End`s way at half time. It a poor opening half North End never really got to grips with the Terriers and the visitors found themselves one up just before the break. North End equalised courtesy of a Keane penalty ten minutes into the second half but it was the introduction of Browne and Osmajic with fifteen minutes to go that completely turned the game for North End. By the end of proceedings "Magic" had the match ball and with Norwich only drawing at Sheffield Wednesday it was game on again in the craziest league of all.
Saturday sees the biggest game of the season for North End with the team everyone is chasing, Norwich City, visiting the hallowed turf of Deepdale. The game is a must win for North End with anything else probably seeing the end of our interest in the play offs. Norwich have quietly crept into the top six almost under the radar although their away record is only nineteenth in the division. The Canaries have won five drawn six and lost ten of the twenty one games they have played away from Carrow Road and although they have scored thirty five goals they have conceded forty one. Just twenty one points of their sixty eight have come away from home so I really do think the this is a game North End can, and must, win if we are to carry the show on to Southampton on Tuesday evening.
Let us hope it is second tome lucky as we head to St Mary`s Stadium on Tuesday evening to play our re-arranged game against Southampton. It is possible the Saints may be confirmed in the play offs before we travel to the South coast and while many things are still undecided in the Championship it is a long odds on bet that Southampton will finish fourth. The Saints have a very decent home record having won thirteen, drawn three and lost only four this season. They have scored forty eight goals so far this term and only conceded twenty six and are the second highest scorers at home behind Ipswich Town. It looks tough on paper but not impossible and the home side may just be a little off the pace if their place in the top six has already been confirmed.
And finally this week:- We may not have quite reached the Premier League on the field but off it our fans must rank in the top flight. The superb, non stop singing at Watford on Saturday for those we were remembering was outstanding as was the various attire worn by the Gentry as we celebrated the lives of those no longer with us. We may not be the most fashionable team in the land but we are the one and only North End and everything that goes with us. These are not fans, they are Gentry!

Will Norwich City Make it Three Wins in a Row Against Crystal Palace at Home?

Preview: Norwich City vs. Crystal Palace

Norwich City will face Crystal Palace at Carrow Road stadium today at 3:45pm. The big question is whether Norwich can make it three wins in a row against Palace!

Norwich Form

Norwich have been playing really well lately. In January they won 4 out of 5 games. This included wins over Everton and Watford in the Premier League. For a while they escaped the relegation zone. But after Brentford's win, Norwich dropped back to 18th place. Both teams want those points badly to avoid going down.

Injury News

Sadly, Norwich's top scorer Sargent is still sick. Coach Smith isn't sure if he'll be able to play. The young American has scored 4 goals this season. In the last game against Watford he scored twice when he was on fire.

For Palace, their defensive midfielder Kouyate from Senegal won't play. He just helped his country win the African Cup of Nations but is too tired. Kouyate breaks up attacks in midfield, so his absence might hurt Palace's defense.

The good news for Palace is midfielders McArthur and defender Tomkins are coming back. They were regular starters before getting injured.

The Stats

Norwich have won their last two Premier League games. But at home lately they've only won one out of five and failed to score in four matches.

Palace haven't won in their last three games. They've only grabbed one point. But generally Palace have been doing better - they're unbeaten in six of their last nine in all competitions.

When these teams played earlier this season, Palace won 3-0 at home. And in their last six meetings Palace have won four times and drawn twice. Goals have been hard to come by too, with only one game seeing three goals scored.

Prediction

Norwich have been near the bottom all year. Their form is improving but they're still struggling at home. Palace have been the more consistent side. They usually beat Norwich and shouldn't be scared to visit Carrow Road. I'm thinking Palace will take the three points!

Championship Countries
Using MapChart, I made a map which looks at the idea of each Championship football club being a nation. The capitals would be their respective home stadiums. The higher the team is in the table as of 19th April 2023, the higher precedent it gets for expansion. Expansion begins from the area their stadium is located.
There will be versions of this for other English leagues.

Tottenham transfer window: Why Spurs face most crucial summer since 2019 after Champions League return
At Carrow Road on Sunday, as at the King Power Stadium a year ago, a Tottenham player was presented with a Golden Boot at the side of the pitch after contributing towards a high-scoring win that ensured their team finished a place above north London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League table. That is where the similarities end. The mood around the club has been transformed.

Rearguard action keeps the back door closed
This was one of those games that will send people to the pub on a Saturday afternoon and not to their local football ground. An ultra defensive visiting team on a bad run, determined not to concede, against a team with good recent history but who are now looking a shadow of their former selves as they idle mid table looking for inspiration. For those not up to speed with North End`s current form and lack of goals, well they could be forgiven for thinking this was a good point on the road especially against a volery of Canaries with quite a number of seasons in the Premier League in recent years. However, for me, it was the very least we could hope for if we wanted to start some sort of re-building process after two wins in twelve prior to the start of the game. North End certainly played their best football in their own half but this obsession with going sideways and backwards is awful to watch week in and week out and I salute the 504 hardy souls who made their way to Carrow Road and backed the team start to finish.
Ryan Lowe, once again, made four changes to the starting eleven with McCann, Whatmough, Potts and Millar coming in for Ramsay, Frokjaer, Holmes and Keane. The game started quite tepidly with both teams intent on not conceding. The home side soon got into their stride, though, and a shot flashed past Freddie Woodman's post on the quarter hour. The keeper was soon in action again to save superbly from Hernandez and on the half hour Lindsay blocked well to save the day. Having said that Norwich were not over running us even though they were playing the better football and having twice the possession that North End were having. Just before the interval Browne nipped in between defender and keeper but just couldn't do enough to rattle the onion bag and give North End the lead going into the break.
No changes for North End at the break as the managers Master Plan had obviously worked a treat in his eyes. Potts had a couple of chances early in the second half but neither were on target. This was North End`s best spell of the game and Whiteman hit the bar just after the hour mark to give North End hope. Unfortunately we went back in our shell instead of trying to push home the advantage and Norwich missed a sitter with quarter of an hour left as Gibbs fired wide of a gaping goal. I thought that Liam Lindsay had maybe just done enough to put him off. Brown then put in a superb block late in the game to save the day for North End. Right at the death we could have won the game when the ball fell to Whatmough just a few yards out but his effort was blocked and we comfortably saw the rest of the game out without any major concerns to take a share of the spoils in a really drab affair.
So a point in Norfolk that seemed to please some but an almost non existent attacking threat that irritated others. The manager had some interesting comments after the game but I wont dwell on them as Im sure people can make their own minds up. Wherever you sit in terms of the Ryan Lowe issue I think this game just maintained the status quo of where we were before kick off. I dont think the manager gained any kudos from the game but a point at Norwich certainly didn't aggravate the situation too much. However the facts are we have still only won two games out of the last thirteen and we haven't scored in the last three. I think it is a huge game at Huddersfield on Tuesday night but I have been saying that for a few weeks, now. A decent defensive performance at Norwich - but that is all and I want to see some real attacking intent at the John Smiths Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Jürgen Klopp lashes out over homophobic chants, calling fans ‘idiots’
Tumblr media
Jürgen Klopp has strongly condemned the Liverpool supporters who directed homophobic chants at the Norwich midfielder Billy Gilmour, calling them “idiots”.
Liverpool won 3-0 at Carrow Road on Saturday in their opening Premier League game of the season but the victory was marred by chants aimed at Gilmour, on loan at Norwich from Chelsea. Choruses of “Chelsea rent boy” could be heard from the away section with Liverpool quick to condemn the chants after the game, labelling them “offensive and inappropriate”.
Klopp sat down with Paul Amann, the founder of Liverpool LGBT+ fans group Kop Outs, on Thursday to express his disappointment at the abuse and called on supporters to stop the songs. “I never understand why you would sing a song if it was against something in a football stadium,” Klopp said in an interview on Liverpool’s official Twitter.
“I never got that. I never liked it. In our case we have probably the best songbook in the world. It’s easy to decide not to sing the song any more. So, we can decide now, this is not our song any more, so I’m not sure if people listen to me but it would be nice.
“I don’t want to hear it any more, for so many reasons. We obviously live in a time where we learn a lot in the moment. I’m 54 now and when I was 20 we said so many things which we didn’t think about. And meanwhile, thank God 34 years later we learned it’s just not right to say.”
Klopp also underlined the chants do nothing for the team, calling them a “waste of time”.
“From a player or coach perspective, I can see these songs don’t help as well as it’s like a waste of time,” he said. “It’s definitely a waste of time because I hear in the stadium when they start singing Bobby Firmino, Mo Salah, You’ll Never Walk Alone. This kind of stuff gives you goosebumps and a push. The other songs are completely a waste of time and if you think [believe] what you sing, you are an idiot.
“If you don’t think about what you’re singing in that situation it’s just a waste of time, forget it and go for another song.” (The Guardian)
