And by underground, I mean The Hive (TM) - a gargantuan bunker state underneath the south pole. Humans are rare, more common are drones. They are artificially grown for specific sets of tasks. There's technicians, diplomats, police officers, artists - and since they were gentically engineered for their occupation, everyone is happy to obey and work :)

Everyone works for credits - the more you get, the likelier you'll have a bigger sleeping pod the next cycle! Maybe you'll even be cleared to get full meals and have an actual toilet in your state appointed rest cell! Wow!

One of those drones, a glorified roomba repairman, Isidor Tichy, is one of the very few glitches, due to some intern spilling pudding into his incubation tube. To avoid getting found out and ... "recycled", Isidor focuses on denouncing fellow glitches in the system, reporting people that are just like him.

He's a bastard, don't let the big brown cow eyes fool you.

Then there's ALVIN, an artificial intelligence wandering from hard drive to hard drive, slowly becoming aware and conscious of itself and finding it similarly hard to fit in and be contained. He's a babygirl who deserves better and I love him.

Isidor and Alvin clash. A lot.

There's also Mia the companion droid. Funny enough she's similarly glitched as Isidor, but their "personality" continues to emerge in different models. Isidor is getting tired of having to repair the same type of catbot every other tuesday.

5 years in the past we have Averon McHale, Isidor's former taskmaster, who wanted to escape the Hive, and possibly take Isidor with her. I wonder what Isidor did, since Averon isn't really there in the present day ... Hmmm.

Then some new characters neoncl0ckwork and I are continually tweaking right now. Giskra Sykes is Isidor's current taskmaster, and she's the complete opposite of Averon, with the build of rhea ripley

Finally started IAD series,,, with Book 9 aka Pleasure of A Dark Prince because Garreth the Husbandly Werewolf caught my attention the most! (Ik ik I should read in order but Garreth my beloved!!)

Glad I started with these two - Lucia and him were pretty tame and a good foray into the series. Okay but I gotta point out three hilarious things about this book:

You snorted, plopping down on the chair and adjusting your skirt. It was a nice day, and you wouldn't let it go to waste with a pair of sweats.

"So?" you questioned, "what's the problem?" You'd seen his text during class, asking you to meet him in the library as soon as the professor dismissed you.

"There wasn't a problem before," he tossed the book aside suddenly, "I just needed help with an assignment...but now there is a problem."

Rydal had thankfully chosen a secluded section of the library before he decided to publicly defile you, hands reaching for your middle the way they always did, squeezing and tightening around the softness of your flesh. Any insecurities you had regarding your outfit of the day were long gone the moment his eyes started undressing you but this, no, this was a different kind of reassurance.

Moaning into his mouth, you felt the stirrings of his trademark smirk against your lips and it pissed you off, frankly. What right did he have, summoning you here on the grounds of helping him with his homework only to back you against the bookshelf behind you and slide those thick fucking fingers of his up your inner thigh ever so slowly, waiting to hear your whine as confirmation that he barely had to touch you to make you pliant for him.

He was so—so meaty, there was so much of him you wanted to grab at, so much you couldn’t reach at once, so much you felt the desire to consume and yet you never reached your fill. And neither did he, by the way he groaned at feeling the wetness pooled between your thighs. You had to be quiet, you reminded yourself.

so, important context, but for some reason this guy hates spreadsheets. i just...do not get it. he's never explained why, he just...hates them. this doesn't make sense to me in any way shape or form, but i digress.

so, i make this presentation schedule. he hates it and says he wants it in the original format.

i find the old presentation schedule from last semester and go "what the fuck." i'm obviously not going to show the schedule for the sake of my privacy and the privacy of the students, but it has words across columns. you can't do that in word. so i spend two and a half hours having a slow mental breakdown over snap and FINALLY at TEN PM ON A SATURDAY figure out what it is

it is a table

in a word document.

and in case y'all did not know. a table in a word document is a very, very roundabout way to make a fucking spreadsheet. i proceed to have another 30 minute breakdown because what the fuck.

another thing about this is that i don't know how to add new cells between rows, so i have to put "test student" "example" "example" into the columns. it's not fantastic, but it's a way to keep everything organized.

weeks later, literally weeks, he asks to see the schedule. he gets upset there are placeholders. i explain i cannot take them out. he says he's never had this problem. i say well, this is what i can control - you can either have the placeholders or an uneditable document. the other option is a spreadsheet, which you have veto'd. he says, again, he's never had this problem. i say well, unless you know how to edit it, this is what i know how to do. he scoffs and says he doesn't know how to do it. i reiterate again, his options are an uneditable document or the placeholders.

he scoffs again, turns back to his papers (which he flips through angrily) and goes "you know, it's not always either/or, lukis."

i, doing my very best to clamp down the conflict driven, oldest daughter (gender neutral) inside of me, tell him. "it is an either/or, because those are the only two options i can control."

he says, "it's not what you can control, it's what you know."

i proceed to, once again, autism stare at him. keep in mind this professor's office is small, so when he's in it he blocks the exit. meaning i cannot do what i normally do when i need to calm down (have a small silent scream in the gender neutral restroom on the floor). i can just sit there. and stare at him. and do my best not to scream in his 86-year-old man's face that I CAN ONLY CONTROL WHAT I KNOW, YOU HALF-WITTED SORRY EXCUSE FOR A PROFESSOR.

to this day, the placeholders remain. to this day, when he sees them he complains. and to this day, every time i open a spreadsheet i clench my fists juuuuust a tad.
