Okay. So essentially.
There are several options.
First, Kaeya refers to Dainslief pointedly as a pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn, because of his ‘eyes’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He says this as almost if he is not pure blooded. Unfortunately, that doesn’t confirm or deny. Their eyes are patterned the same, however, so I’m thinking, if Kaeya isn’t solely Khaenri'ahn, maybe that has something to do with the color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaeya's are a dark purple-blue whereas Dainsleif's are more of a lighter teal-blue. Chlothar's appear to be also a lighter blue.
Tumblr media
Either way, this isn’t very conclusive. Kaeya could or could not be a pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn. Well except there’s one singular problem. All pure-blooded Khaenri'ahns are cursed with immortality. And as we’ve learned, all non-pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn's were turned into hilichurls. So either Kaeya IS pure-blooded. Or, something very strange is going on with him.
We'll table that for later.
First, we know that Kaeya is definitely a descendent of the Alberich clan- more specifically he says of Chlothar, the founder the Abyss Order.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second, when Chlothar tells you Caribert's identity, he calls him, specifically, his illegitimate son. As if he might have another one floating around somewhere.
Tumblr media
Might he has another pure-blooded son out there? Could he be Kaeya’s ancestor? Maybe. That would also make Kaeya pure blooded, thus immortal, thus solving our problem. That’s one option.
Let's keep going. Another important piece of data is that Caribert's mother is from Mondstadt.
Tumblr media
This is only significant because, out of all seven nations to pick from, Kaeya's father also dropped him off in Mondstadt. It could just be a coincidence but, still. It might not be.
Anyway, moving on. I have no theories about what was under Caribert's mask that made him lose it and I truly have no idea why the Sinner's/the abyss's dark energy surrounded him. Either way, however, his fate remains unknown.
Except for this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This seems to indicate that The Loom of Fate is not a thing or a person but some sort of concept/state of being. Either way Caribert is, for all intents and purposes, not here anymore.
The reason I say not here instead of dead is because we have no proof of death. We know Chlothar is dead, but not Caribert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where does all this leave us?
Well, the first option is the simplest one. Kaeya is the descendant of Chlothar's legitimate child so he is a pure blooded Khaenri'ahn, hence why he is not a hilichurl.
The second option is that he could be a descendant of Caribert himself. As we know, somehow, Chlothar managed to cure his curse of immortality. Maybe that was through whatever happened with Caribert and the Loom of Fate. Maybe Caribert was able to cure himself. Maybe Kaeya is his descendant and thus a non-pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn who is also not a hilichurl.
The third option is that Kaeya is Caribert himself. It makes sense why he was dropped off in Mondstadt. It’s the home of his father's love. Now, the major problem with this one is that it doesn’t fit with what we currently know about the timeline. This occurred hundreds of years ago and Kaeya clearly had a childhood with the Ragnvindrs. I’m not ruling out this option though because Genshin always surprises me.
Tumblr media
Either way, “You are our last hope” feels very significant here. Perhaps it has to do with the Loom of Fate and why Kaeya is seemingly unaffected by the curse.

thinking about kaeya returning to mondstadt after his mission in sumeru and that night he goes to angel's share and diluc is bartending there and it's so obvious that something is off with kaeya but diluc ofc doesn't say anything bc like. how would he even start that conversation?
"hello estranged brother, i know you're partially inebriated at the moment, but something is clearly off about you please tell me what it is"
so he doesn't say anything
and kaeya just keeps absentmindedly drinking (and maybe he drank a bit before he arrived at angel's share too) and it's enough to make even him wasted
and he's slumped onto the counter, finger trailing around the rim of the glass diluc had long since refused to refill. the tavern is empty except for the two of them, and diluc has begun to clean up when kaeya says
"alberich is the last name of the man who runs the abyss order"
and diluc just. freezes.
kaeya lets out a hoarse laugh, and the glass falls over onto the counter.
diluc walks over, carefully turning to see kaeya's face, and his expression is completely blank, zoned out.
it ends with diluc taking kaeya to his house and making sure he gets in bed and falls asleep and then diluc leaves a little note that says something like
"K,
I walked you home and cleaned up some of the wine bottles laying around. Please try not to drink before you come to the tavern.
You told me about the heritage of your name last. That isn't something that I relate to your person.
From,
D"

Dainsleif: Would you like to learn about your name from Ancestry.com?
Kaeya: Oooof, sounds interesting but burdensome. I'll have to make an account, make a payment, it's a whole thing.

Kaeya's Origins
So there was a LOT for me to process about 3.5's Dainiversary...and this was one of the things that stood out to me the most about Kaeya's ancestry (other than the big ol' lore bomb). MAJOR 3.5 SPOILERS AHEAD
While I know it was shorter than a lot of us would like, the Dain and Kaeya conversation had a huge impact (hur hur) on what is to come for Kaeya's future lore. For this post, I'm going to focus on this interesting little tidbit about the infamous Khaenri'ah pupils:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what constitutes the difference between pure-blooded Khaenri'ahns and mixed-blooded? I don't think it's the eye color...I think it's the prominence of the pupils.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All three are pureblood Khaenri'ahns. While Halfdan did appear to us as one of the Black Serpents, it was a result of the degradation of the curse, which Dain himself says he is experiencing. What their pupils all have in common is the dark outline creating the star shape we've come to recognize. Now let's examine Kaeya's eye:
Tumblr media
Not only is his pupil less prominent, but his eyes are split almost in half horizontally. The top half is dark, the pupil's edges rounded and less defined. The bottom half is bright, and the pupil's edges are a lot more defined. This may be an indicator of his split-heritage. Now for this theory to come full-circle, I'd love to be able to analyze Pierro's eye to see how his pupils match. However, I can't find a large enough image that has decent resolution, and all the good res images are FREAKING MICROSCOPIC
Tumblr media
If anyone has a decent image of his eye, I'd be so grateful if they could send it my way T_T the deeper I can dive into this hell pit, the more I can distract myself from the actual hell pit that we're living in right now XD

i have some base level criticisms of the caribert quest but i did walk away with it with at least one thought i havent seen anyone parrot:
the khaenriahn curse works vaguely like how the fall of gurabad did. when liloupar swore to fuck up ormazd’s entire bloodline for three whole generations, it wasnt spoken with ill will or forward intent. she didnt say it as a promise or a threat, she said it like an eventuality.
shiruyeh and the rest of liloupar’s children werent massacred by action, they were massacred by fate. it was meant to happen.
so this curse of immortality on khaenriahn nobility and the curse of monstrosity on their half blooded children, as well as the emphasis on caribert being the loom of fate... maybe the curse of immortality wasnt so much forced upon khaenriahs nobles as it was ordained upon them.
and this victimization, this idea of seeing khaenriahns as sinners and heretics for being godless (something Multiple gods have expressed pride and hope in the possibility of, guizhong and deshret being the most notable), it just seems like an interpretation most khaenriahns have. bc when you are faithless, who else have you to blame but yourself?

!! SPOILERS FOR CARIBERT ARCHON QUEST UNDER THE CUT !!
holy. fucking. shit
okay so i did all of it in one go the SECOND the update dropped and first of all???? kaeya actually being somewhat open about his past at dawn winery and talking about sneaking off to sumeru to see if he could find anything about Khaenri'ah,,,
part of me wonders if he was trying to find his way home. that was my first thought, at least
either that or he could've just wanted to investigate the possible remnants of his homeland
also the mental image of crepus traveling to sumeru to drag kaeya back to dawn winery is SO funny omg
anyway. this confirms that as a kid, kaeya was great at hiding and going unnoticed (for a short period of time, at least)
he described it as a "short-lived adventure" as if it was just something he did for fun, but i feel like it was more of a "i don't know where my father went after leaving me here and i know i can't ask for help from anyone around me so i'm going to take matters into my own (tiny) hands and try and get home/learn about home"
also, on that note, kaeya knowing khaenri'ah is near sumeru is...interesting
honestly, just the location is interesting to me
sumeru is, for the most part, surrounded by other nations (liyue, natlan, maybe fontaine? idk i'd need to look at a map) so unless khaenri'ah is west of sumeru, it's somewhat central to the other nations and has gone completely unnoticed since it was destroyed
anyway, back to talking about kaeya
in the weinlesefest, we heard kaeya's father's voice for the first time, and it was the line about kaeya being their nations only hope. however, i guess that line doesn't really affect kaeya in the way we thought it did. while we assumed he was always being torn between mondstadt and khaenri'ah, he was actually starting to think that his father left him there for his own good
honestly, healthy mindset there, king!
anyway after that he says "A happy life sounds good to me, of course. Even if it means being cut off from... certain things."
king. hey. are you talking about being cut off from your birthplace or being disowned by diluc; you gotta give me some direction here. personally, i'm going to assume he's talking about diluc now
kaeya had a very happy life when he was with crepus and diluc, and maybe he's including other people's happiness in his definition of a happy life. he's a people pleaser--if others are happy, so am i--and he thinks diluc is happier without kaeya
also him just saying that alberich is his surname makes me :(
like. listen. i know diluc disowned him so he cant really use the surname ragnvinder. but like cmon :(
and him saying his surname is "probably" the only link to khaenri'ah he has left,,, very interesting
ALSO DAIN???? "...One Death After Noon please, Boss." YOU LITTLE SHIT???? he REALLY just went in there with "i'm going to look you in the eyes, sit at your table, and order your favorite drink from your estranged brother's tavern. just for fun, ofc" like bitch????? omg
the tension between kaeya and dain is...yeesh
anyway. kaeya is the descendant of the abyss order's founder! yippee :) and now that he knows that for sure, there's definitely going to be SOME kind of interesting thought process he has
~~~~~
okay just my thoughts on kaeya for this post but the caribert quest fucked me up omg. like.
okay :)
how am i supposed to live knowing that this man spend SO many years trying to save his son only for it to fail and for him to be buried with a lover
also i love paimon!! she cares for the traveler and it's so sweet i don't get how people don't like her :(
NOT TO MENTION THE PART WITH OUR TWIN
LIKE. WHAT WAS THAT :DDDD
Okay but...
Dain says his memories are suffering under corrosion. Coming from the curse of immortality. His memories are jumbled, incomplete, or even gone. He is a pure-bred Khaenri'an. So his curse is immortality and eventual corrosion as the curse will rob him of his memories. Memories of his home, his family, his nation, his deeds and misdeeds. If those are not gone, they are perverted.
It bears more questions of how many actual survivors of Khaenri'ah there are. Because they can't die. But pure-bloodrd Khaenri'ans are probably fucking rare as they started from like a family or so. It explains why there are so few of them despite immortality yet raises even more questions.
Zhongli says he fears erosion. Because it will start eating at his mind, his memories. Ei fears it so much she's become... Well, she started making dolls and went full Plane of Euthymia.
Hilichurls were created from those who lived in Khaenri'ah but originated from somewhere else. That's basically them saying goodbye to their old self, their ties, their origin, the fate they were born into. Because Teyvat is bound by fates and stars.
Khaenri'ah, I love you. But this feels like something Greek Gods would do to punish hubris.
Oh you wanted to make a god? To become gods? Here's the best treat of it all! Live eternally, erode with time, lose your memories, your immortal but fallible mind. Unable to die as your mind slips away from you slowly.
Oh you thought you could just say goodbye? To abandon your place of origin? To nope out of this relationship with your Archon? Say ciao to the stars you were born under? To try and seek other fate for yourself other than the one you were given at birth?
Well, if you don't like your origin and identity so much. Poof. Gone. You are a hilichurls now. You shall adorn this mask forever. You wanted a change of identity. You got it.
Genshin 3.5, caribert spoilers under the cut!!
God the fact that nahida didn’t even have a chance to help Eide because she was fucking. Still trapped. Or even just answer him. Do the gods hear prayers from the statue? I have no idea. Like idk if she could have helped at all, but it WOULD make sense if she could. Would that have been directly going against the heavenly principles??? Oh 10000000%. I am so curious to know if she could have blessed the medicine.
I honestly think people are jumping the gun with their disappointment over the new story quest in 1.2
The whole purpose of Xianzhou Luofu arc is to set up future events.
The writers tell us this by having Kafka admit to the MC that the whole point of this operation for the stellaron hunters is to have the Xianzhou indepted to the Astral Express crew so that they will aid them in their fight against Nanook the destruction.
Herta Space Station and Jarilo-IV were used to introduce us to the game mechanics and to establish the trio of Dan Heng, March 7th and the Trailblazer with the Space Station also serving as a prologue.
Jarilo-IV however did nothing to develop the overarching main plot of the game. Belobog was it's own self contained arc to ease the player into the game and they are now using the Xianzhou Luofu arc to plant the seeds for future chapters.
People are already calling Blade a wasted character, because his confrontation with Imbibitor Lunae didn't play out like people hoped it would, because they didn't drop his entire backstory in this quest even though it's pretty clear that Blade, Kafka and Silverwolf will be reoccuring antagonists over the course of the story.
The prologue already introduced us to Kafka and Silverwolf, heck Silverwolf even got her own event.
Introducing Blade and his connection to Dan Heng to the player is what I would argue the other focal point of this arc. Every theme this story introduced to us can be connected to Blade (immortality being a sin, what it means to be mara struck, manipulation, the weight of our past actions and how we deal with them etc.), it's so that we can understand his story and motive.
Not to mention that it opens the door for character development and development of Dan Hengs and his relationship. Right now Dan Heng doesn't make the connection that Blade is his previous incarnations "friend" (in quotation marks because hoyoverse is being sussy with them) and he's still running away from the past. Meanwhile Blade is consumed by his vengence, his desire to die and he is also getting manipulated by Kafka (admittedly she kinda has to because of the Mara but that barely changes anything other than making us see her in a bit more positive light).
All points that will need to be adressed in following installments and I have faith in the Honkai writers to do these plot points justice, but it won't be right now.
We are in 1.2 my friends, let the story take it's time.
okay but like. dain and kaeya were def mutually testing each other right. hence dain listening in and starting with what he did and kaeya continuing to talk about being Khaenri'ahn with him in earshot (as he recognized dain as Khaenri'ahn and had seen him slinking around in Mondstadt)
