Khaenri'an Blood Purity Through Eye Color?
This has spoilers for the 3.5 Archon Quest Cavibert. You've been warned!
Alright. I’m scatterbrained so I figured I’d talk about this. My main theory is that pureblooded Khaenri’an’s can be identified by teal eyes with Primogems.
We know all people with Khaenrian blood have primoshaped pupils but Kaeya specifically noticed that Dainsleif is stated to be “pure blood Khaenri’an”. The main difference between the two when it comes to eyes, the main thing connecting Khaenri’ans is their eye color (Kaeya having purplish eyes while Dain having teal)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dainsleif and Chlothar are both stated to be “pure-blooded Khaenrian” and they both have the same bright teal eyes with primogem shaped pupils. This is also something Halfdan has from the Chasm quest so he might be a full blooded Khaenri’an too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaeya on the other hand has a purplish blue eye. We know he has khaenri’an blood because he’s related to Chlothar and it’s stated in game through his voice lines and backstory. Plus, his primogem pupils are smaller and not as defined. It’s highly likely Kaeya is only part Khaenri’an, not full blooded. This has even been a theory for a while.
Tumblr media
Finally, the last playable character who has a backstory related to Khaenri’ah who also has teal eyes, Albedo. While Albedo does not have the Primo-shaped eyes, his eyes match the Alchemy Crafting Table so that might be a side effect from his creation. Rhinedottir purposely made Albedo look as close to perfect originally with Subject Two/Susbedo but he was tossed. This might’ve been another symbol for “perfect” in Khaenri’ah, the teal eyes.
To add to this is the history behind blue eyes in the real world. Blue eyes are a genetic mutation from a single common ancestor and was bred throughout the years despite being a recessive gene. I think this might be something similar because Chlothar says during the quest he was a Khaenri’an noble and Khaenriah already is split between people who are “pure-blooded” vs people who aren’t (whose parents aren’t both from Khaenri’ah, like Caribert’s mother was from Mondstadt). The people who kept their bodies vs the people who turned into Hilichruls.
Khaenri’ah is shown in this quest, through Chlothar, that they had some elitism to other nations due to not worshiping the gods. The color of someone’s eyes might indicate to people how pure blooded the person is, if they are caring both the dominant trait (the primogem-shaped pupil) and the recessive trait (the teal eyes).
This might be why Kaeya was able to notice Dain was “pure-blood” so easily and why Rhinedottir gave Albedo teal eyes almost the same color as the purebloods. Just something to chew on :)

“no more red skies....”
alternative title: “ Chlothar and his son Caribert”, inspired by the painting “Ivan the terrible and his son Ivan” by repin, this quest just made me think of it :’)

when I played Caribert, I was pretty disappointed about the lack of impact Dain seemed to have on Kaeya, honestly. during Kaeya's hangout, he didn't mention the weird cryptic blond dude who just dropped family lore once, which I thought would have been pretty important?
but in truth, I think Dain actually had a HUGE impact on Kaeya.
we can all know that from Kaeya's personal lore and former events that Kaeya had very conflicted feelings over his duty to Khaenri'ah and his love for Mondstadt, even with his estranged relationship with Diluc (which now seems partly fixed?), but in the performance route of Kaeya's hangout, Kaeya makes his choice.
The story of Prince Qubad is a very, very thinly veiled metaphor for Khaenri'ah all throughout, and then we finally get to the end scene of the play:
Kaeya: When I departed my beloved home to fight in a foreign land, I did so to honor his (my father's) wishes and for my duty to our people. Kaeya: alas, is this fate's grand design… that I should spend the rest of my days in a foreign land, till I am laid to rest in a grave far from home? K: Must it be so…? K: my dear audience, I ask you this: do you believe in fate? if fate decreed that your life was to end in tragedy, what would you do? Traveler: I would challenge my fate, and rise above it. / I would bravely face my fate. K: then so must it be! I shall discard this intaglio, and rid myself of the shackles of fate. G: my dear prince, do you intend to betray your father, and abandon your heritage? K: fate means to send the machinations of war to every corner of the land, to fan the flames of conflict til they engulf the entire world…
K: fate would see my sword tainted with the blood of innocents, that the bright banner of my homeland might fly in every nation known to mankind. K: but I shall not bow to the will of fate. I am no pawn in heaven's plan. K: I, Kaeya Qubad, will spend the rest of my days in a foreign land, til I breathe my last in a place far from home. K: but I must walk this path, or freedom dies by my hand. goodbye, my tribe and kin. farewell, sweet land of my birth.
after a lifetime of questioning his role, Kaeya makes his choice for Mondstadt. and I think this happening after meeting Dain isn't a coincidence. (and no, not in a soulmate way or shipping way- this is Kaeya's moment of choice, not infatuation.)
after not only learning the history of his origins, Kaeya meets a Khaenri'ahn who... doesn't want to return Khaenri'ah to its glory days? who is more focused on helping others and minimizing damage than causing more for his own gain? who chose his path and has not budged since, even through loss?
Kaeya gets to see someone who is so Khaenri'ahn, so human at his core, someone who cares not for the fate and tragedy of their nation. Kaeya gets to meet someone from his homeland who tells him to leave it all behind, who tells him he should take the chance he has been given at his own life; who actively discourages the idea of Kaeya being a fated "prince" or being indebted to Khaenri'ah.
even though he never said it, I think meeting Dainsleif helped Kaeya choose his own path, which is all Dain ever truly asked of him, anyway.
good for Kaeya.
(i understand that i used "ship" tags but those are more for visibility and duo name than anything else. idm if you ship them, i just request that your tags do not turn my analysis post into a ship post, pls! :)

Thinking about ragbros and their direct parallel to the twins. The traveler who is widely considered a hero and spends their days protecting teyvat and their sibling who is leading the abyss who seeks to destroy that. Yeah that's a direct parallel to diluc being the protector of mondstat while kaeya is a descendant of the abyss orders founder. Like. Do you think after the traveler finds out about kaeya and Diluc's past they're just. Absolutely floored by how similar they are? And hoyo wants us to be normal about this???

I honestly think people are jumping the gun with their disappointment over the new story quest in 1.2
The whole purpose of Xianzhou Luofu arc is to set up future events.
The writers tell us this by having Kafka admit to the MC that the whole point of this operation for the stellaron hunters is to have the Xianzhou indepted to the Astral Express crew so that they will aid them in their fight against Nanook the destruction.
Herta Space Station and Jarilo-IV were used to introduce us to the game mechanics and to establish the trio of Dan Heng, March 7th and the Trailblazer with the Space Station also serving as a prologue.
Jarilo-IV however did nothing to develop the overarching main plot of the game. Belobog was it's own self contained arc to ease the player into the game and they are now using the Xianzhou Luofu arc to plant the seeds for future chapters.
People are already calling Blade a wasted character, because his confrontation with Imbibitor Lunae didn't play out like people hoped it would, because they didn't drop his entire backstory in this quest even though it's pretty clear that Blade, Kafka and Silverwolf will be reoccuring antagonists over the course of the story.
The prologue already introduced us to Kafka and Silverwolf, heck Silverwolf even got her own event.
Introducing Blade and his connection to Dan Heng to the player is what I would argue the other focal point of this arc. Every theme this story introduced to us can be connected to Blade (immortality being a sin, what it means to be mara struck, manipulation, the weight of our past actions and how we deal with them etc.), it's so that we can understand his story and motive.
Not to mention that it opens the door for character development and development of Dan Hengs and his relationship. Right now Dan Heng doesn't make the connection that Blade is his previous incarnations "friend" (in quotation marks because hoyoverse is being sussy with them) and he's still running away from the past. Meanwhile Blade is consumed by his vengence, his desire to die and he is also getting manipulated by Kafka (admittedly she kinda has to because of the Mara but that barely changes anything other than making us see her in a bit more positive light).
All points that will need to be adressed in following installments and I have faith in the Honkai writers to do these plot points justice, but it won't be right now.
We are in 1.2 my friends, let the story take it's time.

We of the Alberich Clan should lead lives as those who blaze like fire, rather than those who wallow in the embers.
___
The newest archon quest left me emotionally devastated, so this is a tribute to my favorite moments from it :D
I can’t wait until we find out what poor Caribert’s ultimate fate was, as I feel we have certainly not been told all of it...

The fact that Clothar has repeatedly mentioned how taboo it is that he had an illegitimate child with a non-Khaenri'ahn.
How his family had plans for him that misaligned with how he wanted to live his life with the one he truly loved.
In addition, he is still clearly and vehemently against the archons and worshipping them.
.
.
.
And then we remember Kaeya.
Kaeya, who has implied that he is not a full-blooded Khaenri'ahn.
Kaeya, who may possibly be a child the main Alberich line would have hated or ostracized had the cataclysm not have happened.
Kaeya who is now dubbed by their father as their "Last Hope".
Kaeya, who was left in the city of freedom. The same man who frequently drinks with the very archon his countrymen would have wanted to see dead.
Do you see how it seems like the tables have turned? How the world turned upside-down with just 1 cataclysmic event?
Kaeya is always contradictory to the common definition of the words he is described as on the surface. He is a cryo user who loves the summer season. He is a knight who schemes and plots in the dark. He is a Khaenri'ahn who wants the freedom of Mondstadt.

thinking about how in the caribert quest kaeya NEVER straight up says "oh i actually didnt know I was the descendant of the abyss order's founder"
sure you could argue that "well that answers some questions" is more or less the same thing, but kaeya's monotone reaction towards this allegedly 'new' information has been a topic of discourse in the community and whether he was lying or not. And i just think its rather intresting considering how this is something kaeya's known for. Not exactly lying but telling the truth in a way that misleads you, which is most clearly shown in his own story quest.
and also, when paimon asks him "you're not involved with the abyss order are you?" This is his response:
"I would be just as delighted to hunt down the abyss order tomorrow as i have always been"
WHAT DOES HE MEAN BY THAT
cuz depending on how delighted he usually is to hunt down the abyss order that answer can imply two entirely diffrent things.
I may be reaching too far but something DID NOT FEEL RIGHT ABOUT THAT INTERACTION AND I CANT PUT MY FINGER ON IT.

Okay. So essentially.
There are several options.
First, Kaeya refers to Dainslief pointedly as a pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn, because of his ‘eyes’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He says this as almost if he is not pure blooded. Unfortunately, that doesn’t confirm or deny. Their eyes are patterned the same, however, so I’m thinking, if Kaeya isn’t solely Khaenri'ahn, maybe that has something to do with the color.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaeya's are a dark purple-blue whereas Dainsleif's are more of a lighter teal-blue. Chlothar's appear to be also a lighter blue.
Tumblr media
Either way, this isn’t very conclusive. Kaeya could or could not be a pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn. Well except there’s one singular problem. All pure-blooded Khaenri'ahns are cursed with immortality. And as we’ve learned, all non-pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn's were turned into hilichurls. So either Kaeya IS pure-blooded. Or, something very strange is going on with him.
We'll table that for later.
First, we know that Kaeya is definitely a descendent of the Alberich clan- more specifically he says of Chlothar, the founder the Abyss Order.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Second, when Chlothar tells you Caribert's identity, he calls him, specifically, his illegitimate son. As if he might have another one floating around somewhere.
Tumblr media
Might he has another pure-blooded son out there? Could he be Kaeya’s ancestor? Maybe. That would also make Kaeya pure blooded, thus immortal, thus solving our problem. That’s one option.
Let's keep going. Another important piece of data is that Caribert's mother is from Mondstadt.
Tumblr media
This is only significant because, out of all seven nations to pick from, Kaeya's father also dropped him off in Mondstadt. It could just be a coincidence but, still. It might not be.
Anyway, moving on. I have no theories about what was under Caribert's mask that made him lose it and I truly have no idea why the Sinner's/the abyss's dark energy surrounded him. Either way, however, his fate remains unknown.
Except for this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This seems to indicate that The Loom of Fate is not a thing or a person but some sort of concept/state of being. Either way Caribert is, for all intents and purposes, not here anymore.
The reason I say not here instead of dead is because we have no proof of death. We know Chlothar is dead, but not Caribert.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where does all this leave us?
Well, the first option is the simplest one. Kaeya is the descendant of Chlothar's legitimate child so he is a pure blooded Khaenri'ahn, hence why he is not a hilichurl.
The second option is that he could be a descendant of Caribert himself. As we know, somehow, Chlothar managed to cure his curse of immortality. Maybe that was through whatever happened with Caribert and the Loom of Fate. Maybe Caribert was able to cure himself. Maybe Kaeya is his descendant and thus a non-pure-blooded Khaenri'ahn who is also not a hilichurl.
The third option is that Kaeya is Caribert himself. It makes sense why he was dropped off in Mondstadt. It’s the home of his father's love. Now, the major problem with this one is that it doesn’t fit with what we currently know about the timeline. This occurred hundreds of years ago and Kaeya clearly had a childhood with the Ragnvindrs. I’m not ruling out this option though because Genshin always surprises me.
Tumblr media
Either way, “You are our last hope” feels very significant here. Perhaps it has to do with the Loom of Fate and why Kaeya is seemingly unaffected by the curse.
