Bor Čeh set new cargo bike speed record

On Thursday 21st of June 2018, Bor Čeh set new cargo bike World record as he rode 38,154km in one hour.

You're asking why the hell would anyone do that, the answer is simple: Because you can.

And knowing mr. Čeh, he's always gonna do the weirdest kind of competition, race or set the record for that matter.

Bor Čeh is racing in Red Hook Crit series around the world, organizing weird bike events focused on fixed gear bikes, and he is running his own bicycle courier service in Ljubljana, Slovenia called Leti Vili. From Thursday on he is the fastest cargo bike dude on the planet.

The machine used to set the record was Omnium cargo bike, with 20" BMX tyre in the front, 700c disc wheel in the back. Shimano Dura Ace drive train running on 53t ring without front deraileur. Cockpit was set wtih "fixie" bullhorns and 3T TT extensions. Due to strong winds present on the day of the record wooden plate resting on cargo area of the bike was removed, for safety reasons as the bike was unstable exiting the corners hitting the strong winds.

The record was set in collaboration with independent local bike entities, Pici Bici, Karussell cycles, Musguard and Leti Vili on an open velodrome in Kranj, Slovenia.

We at Pici Bici were responsible for time and distance measurement, and took the task very seriously, running two stop watches and a measuring tape to get as precise result as possible without high-tech UCI timing machines. We believe such measuring is more accurate than any GPS tracker spinning almost 96 times on a 400m oval in one hour.

Previous record was set in 2016 by Belgian Kevin Labeeuw at 35,93km. While Labeeuw's record was set on a cargo bike with fixed gear drive and carrying 25kg metal plate with him, this discipline is completely unregulated and therefor there are no set rules as how this record should be attempted. Bor Čeh rode a cargo bike faster, fact!
