the smoke from the wildfires in canada are crossing the atlantic and is now bringing a haze to the nordic countries
it's said that the soot from the smoke will deposit onto the snow and ice of the arctic which will in turn increase local warming (i.e worst wildfires, ice sheets melting, oceans warming and rising, stronger tropical cyclones, etc. etc.)

From the NY Times (and other sources):
Ways to Help
The Canadian Red Cross: Every $1 donated to the Canadian Red Cross will become $3 to support those affected by wildfires. The funds will be directed to people living in Nova Scotia and other Atlantic provinces, some of the hardest hit areas, for immediate and ongoing relief and recovery efforts as well as community preparedness initiatives.
United Way: The Canadian federal government joined the government of the Northwest Territories in a similar matching program to support disaster relief and recovery efforts. The funds will be used to support nonprofit community groups who are helping local residents.
Donate a Mask: This volunteer-run charity ships free N95-equivalent masks to anyone in Canada who requests them, with priority to Canadians who cannot afford or do not have access to high-quality masks.
Firefighters Without Borders: This Ontario-based nonprofit donates equipment and training to communities across Canada and in other countries.
Odawa Native Friendship Centre: The Odawa NFC is a nonprofit organization serving the Indigenous community in the Ottawa-Carleton region and is currently collecting donations for First Nation evacuees (with “wildfire evacuees” as the donation type). On Facebook, the NFC noted that it can no longer accept clothing donations.
Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC): Live map of the fires. Updated daily.
APTN National News: Newspaper on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Can be used to understand how the climate is affecting the Inuit, Métis, and First Nations.

As you may know, wildfires are burning all across Canada right now, especially in Quebec, Alberta, and Nova Scotia. The smoke has spread great distances, even to places where there aren’t currently any fires. Although there are no fires near my city, the landscape has been obscured by a haze, and it feels like I’m inhaling massive amounts of campfire smoke, which most definitely isn’t good for the lungs. My fellow Canadians (as well as American friends along the border), please, please stay safe. Get your news from trusted sources, listen to health advisers and climate experts, stay inside if possible, and consider wearing a mask outside. If you’re in an area that’s been severely impacted by the fires, my heart goes out to you.

People are so shook and making memes about the haze in New York only they just found out about it from New York.
Just because it was in New York.
They're not talking about anywhere else, only in America. So many Canadian cities looked/look exactly the same as New York rn. Alberta's cities are some of them, and it looked horrific. Alberta was the first province affected, and they started in April/May! no one talked ab it!
I see so many memes on social media about how Canada "gave" America the haze, how "Americans are suffering because of Canada", how the "Canadian wildfires are making American cities orange".
20,000 Canadians were forced to leave their homes. 9.4 million acres burned. And yes, cities all over Canada have been washed orange, as are New York and Detroit and other American cities. NY had the worst air quality in the world yesterday, and they absolutely have every right to be scared and to complain ab it. Think of the sick, the children, pregnant ppl. Millions of animals and flora will perish. My friends, family, and I are extremely worried. We are all worried. This is the earliest fire season I remember.
This is all because of climate change. Something that affects all of us. Why people are making fun of Canada for such a natural disaster is beyond me. So much land, land that INDIGENOUS PPL HAVE WORKED SO HARD TO PROTECT, is gone.
This isn't a joke.
Stop joking.

Bruh due to the smoke from the wildfires up in Ontario and Quebec, the Tri-State Area deadass looks like a Mad Max movie rn

There's been an 800% increase from the "safe" air quality number in less than 48 hours, resulting in the worst air quality in NYC in 50+ years.
Tumblr media
NYC literally ranks worst on air pollution / air quality rn of any major city in the world.

The current air in NYC is classed as hazardous and could be life threatening due to the Canadian wildfires.  The ENTIRE city has been strongly advised to stay indoors to avoid the smoke containing toxic nanoparticles - as air pollution in NYC becomes the worst on Earth.

not once, in all the reporting i have seen on american news outlets about the canadian wildfires, has been about the actual situation in canada and how canada is on fire and how communities have lost their homes. it has all been about new york city’s air quality and a lot of blame canada jokes. we are actually on fire. we are having a natural disaster across the whole country. like from coast to coast. we share a border. have some empathy. communities across the entire country are being affected. anyway, here’s wonderwall

Stopped by the park to visit my goose friends. It’s hard to tell but it is not a good day to be outside in Michigan. The winds shifted and we have warnings about the Canadian wildfire smoke all over the place.
Tumblr media
YES I brought snacks this time, can’t you tell.

Even the babies got in on the action after mom approved. I took them green grapes that were cut in half. The adult geese would take them right out of your hand.

Just saw a thread of people on TikTok blaming Canada and the Canadian people for the poor air quality in NY and the east coast
Like you’ve got to be shitting me right now? Are certain people that delusional?
Be for fucking real because people are losing everything! entire towns are burning to the ground, every province is on fire and there are certain people in the United States blaming us?
What do they think we’re doing? Going around lighting trees in fire for fun?
