As Devils fans, it is so important for us to note that this is more than just hockey. These claims deserve to be THOROUGHLY investigated, no matter who is being accused. There should be no comments of “but losing him will hurt the team,” or anything along those lines. If any of these players are guilty, they should be treated the same way any other investigation would be. There is a potential victim in this case who deserves absolute justice. Any player, in any position, from any team, is not above the law.

welp just like everyone suspected
praying that girl FINALLY gets justice and a reminder that at the end of the day we support the name on the front of the jersey and not the back.

This shocked me to my core. I was absolutely disgusted when I heard about everything that has gone on. I feel so badly for the victim and I hope she gets the justice she deserves. If these claims are true they should be charged like anyone else would be regardless of there status or standings in the hockey world. I can understand how “devastating” this may be for some but these men’s actions don’t speak for an entire team and I will always support a team but never a player who could do something like this.

Hey Ren, not sure if you know/can answer this, but can the four CWJ players charged return to their teams in the time between pleading and trial? With the trial(s) potentially being in 2026, I was just curious what would happen/what the league's next steps are. Is there anything in the CBA?
So I can answer this theoretically because there is precedent and there is a rule in the CBA that allows Bettman to suspend all of the players that are currently being charged.

However that in particular is not what I'm concerned with. My main point of conflict is whether or not the teams will terminate each of these players contracts. This happens fairly frequently we saw one with former Coyotes' player Alex Galchenyuk this past off season and again during the season with Corey Perry and the Chicago Blackhawks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The problem here with both cases is that it depends on whether or not Bettman is willing to suspend them until this is over and we get a solid answer or if their teams are willing to terminate their contracts based on bad faith. Because we've seen the commissioner suspend people awaiting trial prior (LAK Voynov he was suspended without pay just hours after being arrested on suspected domestic violence. Never playing a game again before going back to Russia without being put through deportation) just like we've seen him ignore similar issues (Varlomov the year prior in COL was allowed to keep playing after being arrested for suspicion of 2nd degree kidnapping and 3rd degree assault).
The NHL is less than stellar when it comes to consistency but we do have precedent and we do already know the IIHF stated that the 2018 world Junior champion team would not be allowed to play in international competition. Of course now the question with that is whether or not the rest of the team not being actively charged will be allowed to play.
I'm sorry if this doesn't actually answer any of your questions but a lot of it is up in the air right now based on what Bettman decides to do. But if you do have any other questions feel free to ask

Sure. "Personal Reasons"
The reason is that you were accused of a group sexual assault, along with other players from the 2018 World Juniors team.

the fact the people are making this about the team and not about the poor girl!? i hope she gets the justice she deserves! the fact that this took so long to even become an actual case is so disgusting and disappointing.

TW SA
full press conference by London, ON police chief and lead detective
you can watch at a faster speed. they speak very very slowly and carefully so as to not reveal anything crucial necessary to keep confidential for the court case.
i found it very necessary to watch it for myself (& not listen/read commentary) to help process it all for myself. i have a few thoughts that I'll get out in a longer post later.
questions were directed to the current police chief and lead detective, both who were not aware of or in these positions in 2019 when the case was first closed. the lead detective took it on in 2022 when it was reopened by the former police chief.
