CAGEFIGHTER- 2020 ⭐️⭐️

Geese Ribbons is a five time mma champion.

He puts his belt on the line against pro wrestler Randy Stone (Jon Moxley) and gets battered by him. Its completely embarrassing. He wakes up and tries to put a submission on the ref then starts crying. He then gets wrecked in his next fight and retires. He comes out of a retirement a few weeks later for a rematch with Randy. He takes 90 percent of the damage in the match but wins with a lucky guillotine.

So its 50/50 booking but whatever.

The fight scenes were quite good but the production of them wasnt. It was very low budget and clearly taking place in a really small room and not the stadium being described.

The parts between fights that focsused on Geese Ribbons were laughably bad. Laughed quite a few times at stuff that kept happening to him. Obviously trying to set him up as a big babyface but its impossible to root for him. Hes a total loser and a huge mark brother.

They also rushed in the Rocky 5 storyline about him being suddently broke with no notice.

Christian Cage has a recurring role as an interviewer which i enjoyed.

Mox was good. Way better than Geese Ribbons.

Apparently I've been sleeping on "Cagefighter" (2020). Spoiler alert! It's about an MMA champion Reiss Gibbons who gave a title shot to a pro-wrestler Randy Stone (played by Moxley!!!), underestimated him and got his ass kicked.

And by 'underestimated' I mean laughed at, mocked, called Randy a clown, a comedian, and a fake fighter. He only agreed to the match for easy money.

Then the "fake fighter" knocked him out and took his title. That was satisfying. Reiss was disrespectful, arrogant and self-righteous and he payed for it.

Now what I hate about this movie... It's trying to make me feel sorry for that asshole. Like, boohoo he lost his belt, he lost his movie role, the internet makes memes about him. He's suddenly broke, because he's been spending like a damn rockstar. BUT IT'S ALL HIS FAULT AND HE'S A BITCH ABOUT IT.

There wasn't even a moment when he thought "hey, maybe I was too cocky, maybe it was wrong of me to disrespect my opponent like that". No! That fucker still thinks that Randy is a villain and the loss was a fluke!

He learned nothing and his fucking plot-armour is driving me nuts! One half-assed inspirational phrase from his girl, training montage, one lucky chokehold and miraculously he wins the rematch... Disappointment.

Also what's funny is the scene after Reiss wins in the end. Randy is laughing and he says something like "You're a tough son of a bitch after all. So now you owe me a rematch and a drink". TAKING THE LOSS LIKE A COOL GUY SHOULD

Yeah, I guess I'm biased since I'm a wrestling fan (Mox fan in particular) but come on.

it's a real shame that iirc at no point does duncan try to process his feelings via shirtless cagefighting in some shithole bar (like cinematic heroes ryan atwood and michael westen and lucifer). he picks fights in shithole bars and he does angsty shirtless workouts, but somehow these were never combined into the greatest trope
