Waiter, Another Round Please?
Perhaps, the encounter took place to bring them to further places, experience more worlds together and merely share stories with each other and eventually extend their reach to a greater scope.
…As random as bar conversations, their shared stories range from the typical sunrise to a simple coffee break – all made exceptional and extraordinary with fine, photographs of captured memories to show and a bit of nice stacking of words to tell.
Just like bars opened until early morning before the sun even rises, sharing stories does not cease unless there is still a night to waste, a party to celebrate, a life to enjoy, and of course, some more beers to drink. But in case, the night is not enough, it wouldn’t hurt to call out for another round, right?

─★°࿔ 𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐝'𝐬 𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 ₀₁ .ᐟ
from polaroids, to poems, to random sketches & songs she's shazaming behind someone's back; astrid's sketchbook is without a doubt the window to her soul. she's rarely without it on hand or in her tote bag, graphite pencils shoveled into the metal coil in case she wished to take note of something (she rarely ever does). she used to worry about people, namely ximena, looking through it however a few offhanded mentions of her latest 18+ commission seemed to steer her clear away from anything remotely art related in astrid's possession. unwilling to let just anyone see or even in her sketchbook; the abundance of names and content relating to valpo residents surprised even astrid when reviewing her latest completed book.

xime: likely from one of their midday trips around vina del mar, astrid's quite fond of photos and will lug around her camera in order to get these shots. she tends to claim that it's for landscape shots as she really should be working on her background work but she often folds and ends up using her film on xime. in this case, she does plan on using it to facilitate her practice for once.
luna: which building is this from again ? it's not like astrid can keep track. she'd brought the camera along to get cold hard proof of any supernatural occurrences but the sign was too eerie for her to not snap a photo of. given that it was toppled and in english she figured one photo wouldn't hurt. that was the last of her film and ghostly encounters had to be recounted purely by word of mouth.
kaito: she never really intended to draw kaito, something of an itchy trigger finger enticed her to snap the photo. hidden behind the other polaroids and recently defaced she knows she should be rid of the photo but can't muster up the strength to toss it. when sandstorm has failed to do its job and ground astrid, she fishes the photo out and contemplates erasing the marks. thankfully, she's stayed strong so far.
leia: after a sweaty morning looking for a gecko she'd spotted, astrid decided to just use the film meant for the reptile on leia while they awaited cool beverages in a nearby cafe. as luck would have it the small animal darted across their feet as they exited the establishment sending the pair on another wild chase ending with clear photos of leia and their beverages and blurry ones of a green tail connected to a body just out of sight.
─★°࿔ 𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 .ᐟ
most sketches in this book are humanoid, captioned with idle thoughts that strike her during and/or after the sketch is completed. luna is featured as an elf loosely inspired by astrid's own fleating interest in bg3. it passed fairly quickly however not before they'd been drawn and astrid began thinking up possible names for the piece. it's still a wip. noah is also featured more directly as she'd gotten him to 'model' for her between the fidgeting and astrid's unexplainable aversion to looking into his eyes it's a surprised she'd gotten even half of it done. idle hand sketches referenced from shows and her aforementioned model. poses are likely done by way of photo references hence her love for her camera. asking anyone she knows to sit still and be quiet is a task astrid is aware they're incapable of and she's taken steps to combat the issue.
─★°࿔ 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐦𝐬 / 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 .ᐟ
i am a burning ship; a vicinity one must always flee.
mistaking kindness for tokens of love.
i know i make it very hard to love me.
i’ve yet learned how to wear my rage.
i am sometimes so close to drowning that I can hear the rivers singing through my body.
for lack of better word, these are musings! thoughts that come to her in the dead of night; things that crawl from her mind onto the pages. she often wakes the next day and finds it all very cringy opting to cover the lines with photos and washi tape. doesn't wipe it from her mind though and she works on putting it into more polished works (the piles of finished poetry she burns every full moon).
ok! that's a peak into astrid's sketchbook for this month/bimonth? idk, i would like to do this semi-regulary as she grows as a person and artist though. if you made it this far yippee! ty for caring about my lil loser <3

The following description was written by Sloane Angel Hilton, the creator of the facebook group for this aesthetic: Its rise and fall between the years 1996-2002 - a movement in pop culture that is spawned from the research of The Y2K Aesthetic Institute. A notable shift in the visual mood of pop culture happened during the turn of the millennium, but it wasn’t Y2K Aesthetic. One thing I have found is that it was en vogue to be between 25-35, the prime age of Gen X at this time. I think of the “Music First” era of Vh1 programming. Contrary to contemporaneous Y2K Aesthetic, and also McBling style of the early 2000s, Gen X Y/AC models in editorial fashion or artist marketing were much more "natural". You will see tons of nude lipstick, hair parted down the middle or natural textured hair, natural leathers, knee high boots, duster jackets, natural and muted colors - especially greens, beiges, tans, greys, and black. Design and fashion was moving from 60s revival into early 70s. Retro-futurism was Y2K Aesthetic, but Gen X YAC was more terrestrial. Its futurism was a mix of sterile and organic. McBling was a full blown disco revival, but here, we just see hints of the 70s. Depictions of city life through a colonialist lens. First wave gentrification. Urban life influenced graphic design, such as in the use of Helvetica as inspired by the NYC subway signs. The rise of a minimalist design revival. On the runway, the rise/peak of the modern supermodel - Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Linda Evangelista, who were all peaking at 25. In photography and film, prevalence of bleach bypass, cross processing, “Lomo effect”, and other color grading trends. Hit music in the US was heavily influenced or even imported from the UK and Europe. Notably, we saw a surge in french house/disco, big beat, electronic, trance, uk garage, and “easy listening”/adult contemporary marketed for Generation X. Less Pure Moods and more Cafe Del Mar. Pop artists were reinvented to fit, like Madonna (Ray of Light). "Soft Club" refers to club culture trickling down into mainstream culture. As the style shifts into McBling, club culture becomes so huge that only the rich can enjoy it in Ibiza. R&B + hip hop had a marked shift in production, due to producers like Soulshock and Karlin, Trackmasters, Darkchild/Rodney Jerkins, in addition to many more who formed top of the millennium sounds working with both these genres. Pop music was equally transformed by club music, R&B, and Latin pop. Rock, pop and poetry were put over trip/hip-hop & breakbeats. Songs that may not have been written for the dance floor were produced as club music. See: soft club. Get X young adults were into entrepreneurship, which supposedly fueled the 90s economic recovery, especially via tech industry. This is why they have been considered a generation which "sold out". Discussion is much deserved regarding the nature of media diversity, both genuine (largely POC in leading production roles across mediums) and as a marketing tool, and the start of gentrification as it would come to be known in post-industrial cities.

Today's mix:
Trance Global Nation 2 by Nicholas Bennison 1999 Trance / Progressive Trance
Here's a pretty great DJ mix with a bunch of trance classics on it that should take you right back to the halcyon days of 1999. Cali-based DJ Nicholas Bennison won't surprise you or bowl you over with anything here, but he really does yeoman's work to link a bunch of bangers together in this under-80 minute release that was put out by the American division of the enormous and multifaceted Dutch label, Arcade Records.
So, if you don't know any of these tunes, this tracklist alone makes for a pretty sweet starter pack to begin your late 90s trance journey. Bennison's selection and sequencing should keep you engaged all throughout this set, but in the early going, he pulls off an exceptionally sweet transition between Arrakis' "Medusa" and Ferry Corsten's "Orange Juice mix" of Cygnus X's "Orange Theme," by really letting the building latter bleed all the way into the quieting former.
And then later on he delivers a pair of excellent back-to-back killers, with Paul van Dyk's terrific "Words (for Love)," which centers some whistling beeps over a pretty vast and intricate backdrop during its smooth, plateaued peak; and German duo Nalin & Kane's mix of Energy 52's beloved "Cafe del Mar," which adds some reverberating tribal drums to the equation 🤩.
This CD will never win any awards because it really doesn't have any flash to it, but by playing it safe and steady, Nicholas Bennison still churned out a very solid solid release here that's definitely worth a listen.
Listen to the full mix here.
Highlights:
Push - "Universal Nation" Arrakis - "Medusa" Cygnus X - "The Orange Theme (Moonman's Orange Juice mix)" Electrique Boutique - "Revelation (instrumental)" Three Drives - "Greece 2000" Hybrid - "Airless" Ron Hagen & Pascal M. - "Dream of the Sirens" BT - "Godspeed" Paul van Dyk - "Words (For Love)" Energy 52 - "Cafe Del Mar (Nalin & Kane 1998 mix)"
