okay so i’ve never really grasped this, might as well ask now — how exactly does the cyberspace & nft stuff mine resources? i’ve heard the basics (i.e. crypto mining uses energy and what not) but i’ve never been able to understand how internet connects to real resources. could you sort of explain that (along the lines with the spam email post) in a simpler way?
ok, put very simply: it's easy for people who only interact with the internet as users to treat 'cyberspace' or 'the virtual world' as immaterial. i type something out on my phone, it lives in the screen. intuitively, it feels less real and physical than writing the same words down on a piece of paper with a pencil. this is an illusion. the internet is real and physical; digital technology is not an escape from the use of natural resources to create products. my phone, its charger, the data storage facility, a laptop: all of these things are physical objects. the internet does not exist without computers; it is a network of networks that requires real, physical devices and cables in order to store, transmit, and access all of the data we use every time we load a webpage or save a text document.
Tumblr media
this is one of google's data centres—part of the physical network of servers and cables that google operates. these are real objects made of real materials that need to be obtained through labour and then manufactured into these products through labour. the more data we use, the more capacity the physical network must have. google operates dozens of these data centres and potentially millions of servers (there is no official number). running these facilities takes electricity, cooling technologies (servers get hot), and more human labour. now think about how many other companies exist that store or transmit data. this entire network exists physically.
when you look at a server, or a phone, or a laptop, you might be glossing over a very simple truth that many of us train ourselves not to see: these objects themselves are made of materials that have supply chains! for example, cobalt, used in (among other things) lithium-ion batteries, has a notoriously brutal supply chain relying on horrific mining practices (including child labour), particularly in the congo. lithium mining, too, is known to have a massive environmental toll; the list goes on. dangerous and exploitative working conditions, as well as the environmental costs of resource extraction, are primarily and immediately borne by those who are already most brutally oppressed under capitalism: poor workers in the global south, indigenous people, &c. this is imperialism in action. digital technologies cannot exist without resources, and tech companies (like all capitalist firms!) are profitable because they exploit labour.
all commodities require resources and labour to make and distribute. digital technology is no different. these are material objects with material histories and contexts. nothing about the internet is immaterial, from the electromagnetic waves of wi-fi communication to the devices we use to scroll tumblr. it is, in fact, only by a fantastical sleight-of-hand that we can look at and interact with these objects and still consider the internet to be anything but real resources.

Altraviolet, I have a very important question.
Is soundwaves disk either:
A lighting cable ( iPhone charger)
Usb type C ( new Samsung cables)
Micro Usb ( old Samsung cables)
My imagination won't imaginate and I need help.
Thank you.
hello hello
it looks like an all black iPad with biolights.
so this (all black with rounded corners. shaped like a data pad, obviously without the details of an iPad, like the inner screen border or camera or buttons, etc)
Tumblr media
with this all over it (SW's biolights)
Tumblr media
It's not small. It's about as big as Rodimus's hands. He can gently press it between his hands. Like think of how big an iPad is to you. That's about how big it is for Rodimus, comparatively.

A Routine Screening [TFP][T][KO/SS]
Word count: 1580 Summary: Starscream goes to medbay for some mandatory maintenance. A/N: I decided to do some Kinktober prompts for a change! I suppose this is a bit liberal interpretation since Knockout is an actual doctor. Kinktober Day 12: Medical Play ~ Ironically, one of the most dangerous spaces on the Nemesis was the medbay. Starscream was even more irritated than usual when he reported there for the routine checkup and maintenance. In the dim biolights of the ship and what came from the neon-filled pipes surrounding the workspaces with all his instruments of horror on display, Knockout was anything but a friendly sight. Still, he smiled. “Right on time, Commander,” he remarked, tossing a pad to the nearest table.
“Naturally. Some of us respect the time of others, doctor,” Starscream spat in return, trying to ignore the cold shiver that went down his spinal strut when the mechanic doors fell shut behind him with a hiss. “Naturally,” Knockout echoed flippantly, the widening of his smirk telling he hadn’t missed the jab and that he didn’t care. “Right this way, on the berth, please.”
Starscream swallowed his spiteful comments. Even he could control his temperament when he was about to surrender his frame and spark under someone else’s control. He wondered how the medbay even functioned with such excessive multitasking. Sure, the area he was well familiar with and where he was now again guided was well-equipped for everything from routine maintenance to surgery, but the large space was also filled with laboratory equipment, heavy industrial tools and assortments of silos for medical waste and spare parts. “Go on,” Knockout told him. “There’s no need to teeter on the edge, get further on the berth. Lie down, please.”
Starscream glanced towards him, huffing at the patronizing guidance, and then shuffled himself awkwardly to the middle of the berth. It always looked narrow but felt much wider when you got onto it. He arranged himself onto the slab and lay down, the medical mesh feeling far too accommodating underneath his frame, like the tongue of a creature that wanted to taste him before swallowing him whole, smelling vaguely of cleaning solution and latex. Knockout was busying himself with the medical terminal, selecting the programs for the checkup while picking up the right cable for the seeker type without even looking.
The first program ready and the cable in servo, Knockout turned back to the berth and leaned over his patient. “There we are,” he said, professional in words but not tone, his smirk far too languid and his red optics a bit too friendly. Starscream had always hated that about him, the slick ease the medic made his way into the personal space and business of others, but even he couldn’t refuse the doctor here, in the domain of his profession.
“I’m going to insert this and then we can start going over the actual important stuff, “ Knockout explained, his free servo coming behind Starscream’s helm to lift and support it while the other brought the medical cable to the back of his neck. His servos always looked delicate on the bulky frame of a muscle car, but they were sure and strong when he set to work.
The thumb pressed against the small plate covering the medical port in the back of Starscream’s neck, experienced and just firm enough to slide the plate onto its track and slip it aside, revealing the port. The remaining four digits holding the cable moved in nimbly, bringing the cylinder-shaped metal connector to the port and connecting it without a single scratch.
Still, when the connection was made and the link established, Starscream let out a surprised huff and offlined his optics. Knockout’s hold stayed as steady as it always was.
“Connection secure. Data feedback normal,” he said, probably reporting the readings on the terminal’s screen. His servos gently lowered Starscream’s helm back on the berth and let go of him and the cable. “Didn’t hurt, did it?” he added, cheeky.
Starscream onlined his optics just to glare at him, then wished he hadn’t. That way he could see the numerous tools hanging above him, black and shiny in the glow of the ring light behind them. Various scalpels and welding tools he knew, but couldn’t begin to imagine what would have to go wrong for Knockout to need the variety of saws.
Knockout tapped a few keys on the terminal, and Starscream felt his vision starting to blur and swim. The light turned softer, black into dark green, all smearing in his vision like melting too close to sun.
“I’ll run a few checkup programs on your system now,” Knockout said. “Just relax and focus on cycling air through your vents. This will be over soon.”
Something made Starscream want to resist that. He couldn’t quite name the feeling, but he groaned and shifted in his place. He always hated having his programming tampered with, his firewall flaring even when there was no threat detected, and he gagged. Somehow he managed to roll his helm to the side, and suddenly the smell of cleaning chemicals got stronger in his vents. The medical mesh made a muffled squish of a sound as he moved.
“Whoops, careful there,” Knockout said, his tone still laid back with a hint of his routine snark. He never lowered his left servo from the keypad of the terminal, not even when he reached out to fix the position of his patient. His digits took a firm hold of Starscream’s chin, not too hard but no hesitation in the grip either, and tilted his helm back up. The blurry ring light and the mobile of sharp tools came back to view again.
Knockout’s servo stayed on him. It slipped from his chin to his chassis, checking the locks on the cables on his neck and then pushed his claws into the small junctions to feel the pumping through the soft tubes beneath them. The way his nimble digits peeled small, tight seams of his frame back and slipped inside made Starscream shiver. He huffed in his vents again.
“I know, I know,” Knockout almost cooed, “it’s uncomfortable, I know. But you’re doing so well. Just a little bit more.”
Another program was launched on the seeker’s system, this time more on a conscious level. It inspected his flight protocols, meticulously prompting them to go through safety checks and calculations. Another subprogram inquired his system about the new flight data, prompting the stabilizers and spoilers of his wings to test their settings.
Both of Knockout’s servos were on him then. “You’re looking well, Commander,” he commented, leaning over him. The ring light left him backlit, circling him perfectly, and the fiery red of his helm turned nearly black, only his digital optics keeping their red glow. His servos pushed underneath Starscream’s frame and lifted him into a low arch on the berth. Strong, steady and meticulous, they followed seams and cables even Starscream himself wasn’t aware he had, pressing and inspecting.
His wings were flinching in small, involuntary motions, his back bowed, and helm tilted back in a way that would have reminded him of something else if it wasn’t for the smell of chemicals and the clinical servos on him. Still, he felt warm. Another shiver went through him, his pedes arching, toe struts digging into the mesh.
Knockout pressed his digits under the armour plating and found the bases of the seeker’s wings. “Oh, it’s a bit dry here,” he commented. “Wait a moment, I’ll fix that for you in a klik.”
Starscream let out a long exvent of air, close to steam. It felt warm in his vents, making him strangely aware of the deep, living chambers and channels of his frame. It was the check-up programs, he told himself, they were essentially mentally dissecting him. He wasn’t quite himself like this, not quite in control. But it was alright, he sluggishly realized, he was fine. He was just a patient for a moment.
Then Knockout and his servos were back, going back under the arch of the seeker’s frame and sliding back into him. Starscream distantly heard his knee guards knocking together, although he couldn’t remember when he had pulled his legs up. But it was okay, he was sure. Knockout would have arranged him back into position if he was wrong somehow.
“Alright, I’m going to apply some grease to the joints now. You’ll feel my servos inside for a bit,” Knockout informed him, his voice a bit distant but rolling over Starscream in waves he could nearly feel.
Knockout’s digits were covered in thick globs of engine lubricant. He slipped them easily into the seeker’s inner gears, finding the base joint of his wings where they connected to the structure of his middle. Firm digits pressed into the joint and started working the grease around the bearing caps and seals, then moving deeper to patiently rub it down the studs to get it into the sockets.
“Good. You’re doing so well. Just a bit more, just like this, nice and relaxed,” Knockout muttered, his words only distantly registering to Starscream. The tips of his wings were twitching. He could hear himself sigh.
“Running a bit hot there, Starscream,” Knockout commented, pretending to be neutral. “Your readings are getting rather high.” Beneath his professional veneer, there was a clear suggestion and an infuriating spark of self-satisfaction. His digits never stopped working, the slick making the metal feel even warmer and almost soft, like being moulded anew.
Starscream opened his intake to tell him off, but what came out was a thin, shivering moan.
Knockout’s smirk grew wider and even more knowing. “Oh, but Commander!”
Starscream glared. “Shut up, doctor.”

ok fucking
so i have a shitty little telly. bought it only a few years ago, bout a hundred bob, say. and it does its job adequately, 1080-60, everything i could ask for video. but the audio’s tinny horseshit. you can’t make out dialogue proper, and music sounds like limp spunk. and the telly doesn’t have a 3.5 so there’s no plugging in my 3.5 speakers. but that’s all ok because i use a shitty little streamer to connect to a bluetooth speaker, but it’s the streamer sending the audio, not the telly. because the telly don’t do bluetooth either
but the new xbox doesn’t have bluetooth. it doesn’t have fucking bluetooth, so you’ll be prodded to get ol’ Billy Gates’ fancy ass proprietary headsets. so theres no way of getting the xbox audio to the bluetooth speaker. and of course, the xbox doesn’t have a 3.5 either. gejakdkxodhsksksk
do you know how much a fucking dac costs. it costs a fucking lot is how much it costs lemetelye. i’m not gonna be forking out sixty bob morethan for the privilege of giving me telly a 3.5 jack. that price is for audiophiles, the typa person who deserves getting bullied in the street. all i want to do is hear. but there’s adaptors aye, adaptors between digital-optical and 3.5, but they’re all fucking male-male. i need my 3.5 to be female because my speakers are male and i am not going to buy a new pair of female speakers or a fucking D-O soundbar for the privilege of hearing me telly godsabove. and because life is beautiful i found a D-O to female 3.5 adapter for a very reasonable price, but “this is not a digital-analogue converter” so it’s a fucken worthless piece of plastic then innit
i fucking happened upon a real shit cheap dac after so fucking long searching. tenner for it, and comes with a D-O wire in the box. the fucking hoursssss i spent tryna find anything to get the audio to these little shitty speakers without breaking the bank. i just wanted to fucking hear, not pay massive audiophile prices. i feel like my loaf’s gone bloody mouldy
answer me this do we live in the type-C promised land where video, audio, data and power all share the same cable? and everything can be connected to everything with a simple clunk clunk of our oval overlord? no we fucking do not. so until that beautiful, simple day where 3.5 and hdmi and D-O and ethernet and type-a and everything else have been thanked for their service and retired, we fucking, FUCKING, need to do everything for compatibility. why the pissing FUCK wouldn’t you put a 3.5 on a telly

Hello, March! ☀️ I brought you my latest topic, this month. Although, this ain't Lazada ❌ or Shopee's parcel ❌, rather from a different courier service (LBC Express) 📦✔️! You two, have you seen this particular parcel before? 🤔 Their response was "Nay".
Its cool because for the first time, I'm opening this different parcel and see what's inside! Check out my recorded video, a month ago. 😁🎦📲
My Recorded Video [edited by: Filmora 9] 🎦🎞️: ↓
My Brand New Smartphone: Tecno Spark 20 Pro (w/ my paper dolls) [Recorded: Feb 3rd, 2024]
Okay so, what you see here is my brand new smartphone! I introduced to you the "Spark 20 Pro" from the Chinese based company, "Tecno Mobile" [CLICK ME!]! 😁🆕📱 Yes, that's right! I just struck a luck by winning a brand new smartphone in the Youtuber's phone giveaway, since winning another smartphone in 2019 [CLICK ME!]! Aw, Goody-goody joy! 😃🍀 Which we'll to get to that later. Right now, it is time to review of my first Tecno smartphone (feat. my paper dolls) in one sitting!
So, without further ado, let's get started!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd to 5th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• As you've already seen in my recorded video, let's transition to my snapshots. 🙂 Here's the packaging of my brand new smartphone from Tecno. My paper dolls we're already excited to see what it looks like! So, let's reveal it, shall we?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6rd to 10th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Tada! Look at that gorgeous smartphone! 😄 On the surface, it mimics the well-known Apple iPhone series, particularly the no. 12 to 15 (and soon beyond). Why? Because of the rear triple camera and the square shape edge. 📷📱 Though, the Spark 20 Pro (and their Spark 20 series) had a bigger lens and bigger edge compared to the modern iPhones. Making it a mockery, but they wouldn't be sued because why not? Also, a bigger lens makes it better quality, right? I'm not sure, but we'll find out. 🤔 So, isn't it beauty, you two? I can't wait to make a snapshot with my new phone! 😊
• Nevertheless, aside from the main phone itself, the box contains a sim ejector tool, a fill up warranty card form (which I was supposedly said that in my video), a 33W wall charger, a USB charging/data transfer cable (Type A to C) that supports 33W, and finally the transparent jelly phone case. There was supposedly another related 12-month warranty card, to no avail because the Youtuber that was originally owned forgot to put it. 😥
• And hey speaking of Youtuber, here's the video about it. ↓😉
youtube
• Her name in YT is "Liz Tech", and she's a YouTuber/Vlogger content creator, who has 618K subscribers and 475 videos, as of this typing.
My Real Story here was: While I was browsing and watching phone reviews on the same platform, I saw this particular video w/ the giveaway raffle. 😮 However, should I take chances on winning my own brand new smartphone is like joining a lotto by buying a single ticket. Actually before that, I was utterly jealous and depressed after seeing my family got their cool gifts while I don't during Christmas of 2023. And I was frustrated and crying... For real. 😠😭 So much so, that my little brother and my mom cheering me up by helping me earning some funds to buy a brand new smartphone for 2024. Thankfully, however, it never happened because with one comment entry I made on her Youtube video, she handpicked me as the winner of the brand new smartphone! Rejoice! <='D And yeah, that's my Real Story, but we're not done this topic, yet! <=] So, let's continue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
11th to 14th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• So, I've already turned on my new Tecno phone, and here are the specs of this phone. Other features that can do are the ability to create a custom AI wallpaper (and other such things, like changing fonts), a multi-tasking window by opening two or three apps limited, an NFC built-in for NFC-related objects (which I tried with my transportation card and it functions well), two AI sensors located at the aforementioned rear camera, a so called "Dynamic Port" notification located at the above of punch-hole camera, which mimics the iPhone's owned "Dynamic Island", and dual grilled speakers by DTS sound located on the top and bottom side of the phone that can reach up to 400% volume. I tried it on Youtube listening to the Costa Rica video in 1440p, 60fps (though not supported in 4k) and it was pretty damn loud, all right. 🔊📲 Also, I did not mentioned the punch-hole front-facing camera during my recorded video, which possessed a 32-megapixel camera and a surprise hidden flash located on the left side of the phone. 📸📲 And to be honest, It was a huge step up to my Honor 8C's 8 Megapixel front-facing camera. I tried it myself, and it was pretty damn good. Though some might say quite decent. Another thing I want to talk about the processing chipsets, armed with the "Mediatek Helio G99" for the CPU, and "ARM Mali-G57 MC2" for the GPU. Capable of handling selected games with either Ultra (sometimes) or High graphics settings, although notable hiccups depend on what game apps you've played. Meaning, that playing "Genshin Impact" (a HEAVY mobile game, and also not a fan or interested in) could suffer a lower framerate than 30fps. To be honest, I haven't tried it myself because I don't usually play games on mobile game. So, I'm casual here. Meanwhile, the display itself is not an AMOLED display ❌ but rather a Full HD+ IPS display ✔️, which is fair owing to the pricing, and we'll get to that, later in the "Overall" section.
• Honestly, there's so much thing to talk about, its impossible for me to do so. For more info specs about the Tecno Spark 20 Pro 📱, then please → [CLICK ME!]. And if you want more reviews about it, then I suggest that you should search on YouTube. There are tons of reviewers who are try getting hands on the Tecno Spark 20 Pro with their honest thoughts if not many reviewers. Or maybe this one better → [CLICK ME!].
• But, what about the 108 Megapixel camera? Is it good? 🤔 Let's find out, and I have right here! ↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media
15th & 16th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Here are my first two snapshots using my new smartphone from Tecno. When I transferred it to my google drive (, which I haven't tried to connect to the PC via USB cable), the images were big at 9000 x 12000 resolution with a quality snapshot size of 12 Megabytes to 16MB and up, and that was from the 108 Megapixels. I also tried the switch off the 108 Megapixel mode, and it's now a normal 50 Megapixel (or something). Which had less resolution and less quality size images at 5 Megabytes to 8 MB, and sometimes at 9 MB. But back to the 108MP mode. I would say, it is pretty neat and again a huge step up to my Honor 8C's least megapixel camera of just 13 Megapixels. However, a 108-megapixel camera doesn't make perfect, though. Because some objects didn't adjust the detail, textures, color balances, and intrusive shadows. So much so, that I decided to make some tweaks before my final decision, which thankfully became an industry standard of editing photos via smartphone rather than transferring them to PC for an hassle editing. And to be honest, the only thing I could adjust on every snapshot is the sharp quality image than anything else. lol 😅🤷‍♀️ On the plus side, it has "Super Night Mode" for a serious snapshots during night hours. Which also I haven't tried it, yet, but I could at least turn off the lights as an alternative way.
BTW: I was surprised, that tumblr can handle the uploading 20MB size of snapshots/artwork rather than 10MB as their limitation. Good for you. 👏😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
17th to 19th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Here are some more photos from the main camera, featuring a sim tray was removed from my Tecno phone, which by the way, a dual sim card and a micro SD card slot expanded up to 1TB capacity size, and two snapshots of the Spark 20 Pro's information specs, with and without a flash. And the latter was A-Okay, I still prefer the Honor 8C's led light over the Tecno Spark 20 Pro, though. Because the led light of the Spark 20 Pro was a bit warmer side than the solid white counterpart. 🤏
Tumblr media Tumblr media
20th & 21st Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Lastly, the front-facing camera. Here are my examples, and from the looks of these, there once again pretty impressive. Even the details were slightly washed out when it zoom in, though. This is a very step up for my front-facing camera usage. Heck, it even possessed a "Super Night Mode", as well, delivering a decent job. Guess, I don't need to share some more front-facing photos to prove it (I suppose). 😊👍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
22nd to 25th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• All right, I've got one last thing to do before my overall and experience thoughts. Here, I'm comparing the old Honor 8C that I claimed the prize in May of 2019. And you could tell their sizes, heights, camera lenses, and their screens (which were unseen) were completely different from their respective design. Sorry, I never get a chance to take more snapshots of their different sides and button layouts. On the plus side, my paper dolls were appreciated and I've owned two smartphones from my winnings rather than earning profits to buy a brand new one. 😊📱📱
My Experience:
• As of now, I'm still using it within a month, with zero issues, and completely intact whatsoever, even the tempered glass screen protector built-in had no cracks, only minor scratches. My old Honor 8C, on the other hand, showed its aging from usage, the back of the phone had already peeled off from wiping, mostly beside the fingerprint scan, and the tempered glass had two huge lines of cracks when I unlocked the phone. Now back to my Tecno phone, I decided to tweak the battery settings to make it more longevity by lower the refresh rate to "auto" instead of staying 120Hz because of battery consumption. Yes, the 5000mAh battery was huge (at the time), nowadays, it became a default standard on all modern smartphones, particularly the budget line. Another thing was switching off the virtual memory for the same reasons. Still, I have no plans to install heavy mobile games (even if I finally getting hands on the 1TB Micro SD card). I was gonna install "Asphalt 9 Legends", but I was so busy doing things. Other than that, though, it is perfectly fine. 📱😊👍
Overall & Asking Price:
• I'm enjoyed my new smartphone from Tecno Mobile, and man, I'm thankful enough to getting hands on absolutely FREE by winning instead of buying with my earnings. 🥰📱
• As for the price of this phone, this 16GB RAM version I have cost ₱7,999 ($142) 💵, while the 21GB RAM version cost ₱8,499 ($151) 💵, as of March of 2024. (Both from the official online shopping site and physical phone stores nationwide) And despite the pricings, it is officially a "Budget Smartphone" with remarkable specs and neat features that rivals the mid-range/flagship smartphone lines (sometimes). In all honesty, there's not much difference between the two, same specs with different RAM choices. Although, she should've review the 21GB version instead of the 16GB of the same phone, but that's just ME. I think I'm happy with what I've claimed! 📱😊👍
Well, that's all for now! 😊 More topics to come, very soon. In the meantime, I have another parcel coming up, so please → [CLICK ME!].

I wrote up a User Guide for my Prototype Pokédex. I think I made it a little long, but hopefully nothing is confusing.
//This is pretty long, so read at your peril.
Hello! And welcome to your new Pokédex!
This manual is for the Rotom version of Prototype Pokédex engineered by Alice.
1. Getting Started
Included in the Rotom version is:
1x USB A to USB C cable
1x AC charger
1x International Outlet Adapter
1x Rotom Adaptable mini-Camera Drone
1x Prototype Pokédex
1× Hard plastic cover case
1x Faux Leather Carry bag
2. Know Your Pokédex
This Prototype is modeled after the original Kanto Pokédex, the same model that legendary trainer Red used during their peak! As such, it is a notebook-style Personal Digital Assistant, but with an added slide out keyboard and stylus. However, instead of red, it's a stylish black.
It features a 8 inch touchscreen OLED screen with included glass screen protector.
The Prototype has two outward switches and one volume wheel.
The power switch is located at the right edge, with power on marked with ○ and power off marked with — . The second is at the top edge. This sliding switch has three modes, marked as (T), (R), and (E). These stand for Trainer, Researcher, and Emergency. The volume wheel controls the volume for the included speakers, but not for the emergency speakers.
At the bottom edge is a USB C port at the center. The left of that port is the stylus holder and the right is the AC charging port.
3. First Start Up
When being powered on for the first time, you will be greeted with a selection of themes ranging from Nostalgic 8-bit to Caterpie Green to Cherrum Pink or even Koffing Purple. The theme, along with other personalizations, can be changed later in the Personalization tab within the Settings.
After selecting a theme, you will be prompted to select a system language. After selecting a language, you will be asked to enter a first name, any chosen pronouns or titles and an emergency contact. The Prototype Pokédex can contact the inputed number along with emergency services in the case of an emergency with a pre-written or personalized message from the user. (Note: The entering of an emergency contact is not necessary for the function of the Pokédex but emergency calls will instead only be directed to emergency services. The given name and pronouns will be used when attributing data gathered by you in published research.)
After inputting a name and contact, you will be asked if you would like to list any Pokémon companions manually or have them added automatically when syncing at Pokémon Center PC. This is only for your current companions. This would conclude the start up and the Prototype will enter the default Trainer mode.
4. Operating Modes
The sliding switch at the top of the Prototype switches the Pokédex from 3 separate modes. The default setting upon first start up is Trainer mode. After entering personalizations, you will be at the home screen. The home screen defaults to the list of indexed Pokémon. This can be changed within the Settings.
A. Trainer Mode
Within Trainer mode, you can access virtually the same type of information as you could on a standard Pokédex. This includes:
- List and number of Pokémon caught
- List and number of Pokémon seen
- Summary information of current battle party
- Quick Access to PC boxes
- Fun facts about Indexed Pokémon
- EV/ IV projections
- Pokémon Habitats
- And much more!
An added bonus to our pool of information from multiple regions allows you to compare data on a particular Pokémon from the perspective of different regions. You, too, can add to this research by contributing your own findings!
When viewing a Pokémon's information page, you will see a ➕️ at the bottom of the screen. Selecting this will allow you to add an entry yourself. First, you will be asked if the provided information will be about an observed wild Pokémon, a befriended wild Pokémon, a Pokémon in someone else's care, or a Pokémon in your own care. You may want to use the stylus or the slide out keyboard to write your findings. You may also use the onscreen keyboard.
Do not be afraid to note down anything of interest. Even something as simple as favorite foods can make a big impact on our research.
Once you have written your entry, you will be asked if you would like to provide any audio, video, or images as supplemental evidence. You may use the USB C port to add files from external devices or use any files recorded using the onboard microphone or the Rotom Adaptable mini-Drone's camera and microphone. When an entry is submitted, you can tag it to a specific name. This is useful should you be observing the same Pokémon for a long period of time or if writing about your or a friend's Pokémon.
B. Researcher Mode
When switching to Researcher mode from within the home screen, you will be taken to a list of Researcher functions. These are:
- Up to date, full research notes for each Indexed Pokémon
- Pokémon Cry Recognition and Imitation
- List of Common Egg patterns per species
- Curated Care instructions per species
- Up to date Pokémon Habitat breakdowns
An additional feature of Researcher Mode is found in Trainer mode. When viewing a Pokémon's fun fact, you can switch to Researcher mode and read an expanded version. For example:
Trainer mode:
Hatterene, the Silent Pokémon
If you're too loud around it, you risk being torn apart by the claw on its tentacle. This Pokémon is also known as the Forest Witch.
Researcher mode:
Hatterene, the Silent Pokémon
If you're too loud around it, you risk being torn apart by the claw on its tentacle. This is a common hunting behavior of wild Hatterene within the Lake of Outrage. While omnivorous, they tend to avoid prey they hunted themselves and instead focus on the stores of food of their prey. It is currently theorized that this hunting pattern developed as a result of wild Hatterenes searching for fights between other Pokémon and stalking the losing Pokémon back to a store of food, wherein the Hatterene pounces and makes off with its prey's food.
This Pokémon is also known as the Forest Witch. This epithet is attributed to an old folk tale that is lost to time. One hypothesis suggests that Hatterene also inhabited the Glimwood Tangle and other parts of the Wild Area before human settlements became large enough to clear out its home forests. The epithet is still widely used as even to this day, newly evolved Hatterene can sometimes be seen migrating out of forests that are home Hatennas and Hattrems on foggy nights.

Researcher mode is also the mode necessary for proper syncing at a PC.
C. Emergency Mode
Emergency Mode is a mode that restricts the functions of the Prototype to only the following:
- Calling Emergency contact and Services
- Pokémon Cry Recognition and Imitation
- Trainer Survival Guide
Activating Emergency Mode also activates the Prototype's Battery Saver, which can sustain minimal use for about 5 days from a full charge.
Using Emergency mode to call for help also sends a message to the emergency contact if one was provided.
During emergency use of the Pokémon Cry Recognition and Imitation software, the emergency speakers are used instead. These speakers are louder and are capable of producing sounds only Pokémon can hear to scare away potential threats. If during normal operation, the software detects a hostile or angry cry from a Pokémon who's hostility could prove dangerous to you, the Prototype may prompt you to switch to Emergency mode. Emergency mode also allows you to imitate the cries of known predators or competitor Pokémon of any Pokémon recognized as a threat.
The included survival guide has basic first aid information, a list of edible berries and herbs, explanations of common hazards, camping instructions for various terrains and climates, and navigation techniques.
The Emergency uses of the Prototype are not a replacement for proper preparedness and research. Please be sure to pack any and all necessary items for any hikes or outdoor travel, and to notify others where you're headed and how long you expect to it to take.
Please stay safe while traveling.
5. Syncing to Alice's PC
In order to receive up to date research and to upload any new data, you can use any Pokémon Center PC to sync. Simply set the Prototype to Researcher mode and plug in the USB A to USB C from the PC to the Prototype. You will be prompted to enter Sync mode. Depending on update sizes, this may take a few seconds to a few minutes.
On most PCs, the USB ports will be on a side panel either on the right side of the monitor box or on the right edge of the keyboard.
Once the sync is complete, the Prototype will prompt you to remove the cable when it is safe to do so.
6. Enjoy your new Pokédex Experience!
Thank you for participating in this cutting-edge research initiative. We value your input and can't wait to see what you can find.
Please be aware that the software is still in active development and can recieve new features through Sync mode.
Enjoy your Pokédex!
