I'm so mad right now and I need to rant. I know I should get over it, but I literally can't. It's so annoying to meet hxh fans in real life.

I'm buying bit by bit the volumes of yu yu hakusho and hunter x hunter (level e is not available in my country), and reading them (again). I got volume 28 and took some photos of some panels that I liked and shared them as a collage in my story. It looked nice, I liked it and I am really happy that I finally got it. The thing is that a friend I haven't properly talked to for I don't know how long saw my story and realized that I liked hxh. We started talking, but damn, I don't regret sharing what I bought, but why are people like this? This is the second time it happens to me (third time if I include a non-fan but knows hxh): everytime someone hears that I like togashi's work, they start complaining about the popular hiatus (as if he's the only mangaka who does that). I so prefer to meet the guys who act all surprised everytime I go to buy a hxh volume in the comic book store. At least they try to make a conversation about the story and just ask me about my favorite character.

My conversation with this guy started with him just complaining about how togashi doesn't continue the story and he should leave it to someone else but he's too proud and blablabla. I tried to be sympathetic since he seems to be a fan of his work from years ago, but I did defend togashi a whole lot (he said I should stop defending him but never in my life I would do such a thing). I find it awful how some fans still put so much pressure on togashi to continue hxh when we know about his condition. And to just leave the story to someone else? It's clear that those people haven't done anything close to a story to say that.

I literally already made peace with the fact that I don't need an ending. As a fan, of course I want to know how it ends. But also as a fan, I don't want him to sell his soul to the devil only to know the ending.

And something I said to this guy was that he should make his own ending, I have mine and I will throw it away when hxh ends. It was literally a joke to lighten up the situation and it wasn't even something to focus on because in between I was saying other things. And he literally focused on that and said "don't let it be fujoshi" (used as an insult) and I'm here like: are we back into the 2000s and nobody told me?

And this question is for me: How am I meeting dude bros in real life? Why are they in the WILD? AND HOW THE HELL DID I BEFRIEND ONE YEARS AGO WITHOUT ME KNOWING? I want a friend who also likes hxh and togashi's work to talk, but not like this </3

I'm so tired of these kind of people. While living my life outside of the Internet and just being in my corner of the fandom living the great life, I tend to forget that they still exist and there are people who still act like this. What annoys me the most is that literally, they don't know what type of story they're reading. They like to say they like hxh because they know it's good and it gives you some kind of "status" within the anime community because togashi is a really good mangaka and someone who influenced a lot of people within the manga community. Without him, shonen as a genre wouldn't be the same. But then, they also choose to ignore what they don't like about his work, like the queer elements. It's highly known that togashi loves to play with gender and sexuality, but that's only a fact for them when they find it convenient. If you don't like it, don't watch/read it, but it's ignorant and blatant stupid to just act as if it's not there and talk shit about other people only because it's uncomfortable to you. And I'm not even saying that everyone should analyze the story, some people just like to enjoy it and move on with their lives and some others don't know how to analize it, but one thing is that and another thing is just to close off to the possibility when it's clearly there. But of course, the others are sick, not them who are clearly homophobic and don't want to admit it. They should ask themselves why do they get so mad about the possibility of two kids being together romantically and just work on themselves. What's worst is that this guy even said to me he likes NANA and I don’t want to know what kind of interpretation he has because DAMN

To be honest, sometimes I'm a bit surprised about how well togashi seems to know the anime community, but of course he does, he's being a fan for how long now and he's being a mangaka for how long. And I so hope he keeps trolling because DAMN these people are annoying

The worst part is that these fans wouldn't even be friends with togashi or wouldn't like him as a fan because togashi really does look like the type of fan they would hate. Togashi likes BL, mpreg, obscure stories, horror (body horror even) and science fiction (both genres who allow and are known for queerness), he used to make doujinshis (even in an era that was even more bad looked upon than now), he likes to draw bishonen characters (even in a time which was more common to see buff characters in shonen), he drew gender-bender designs of kurama and hiei, he included a homoerotic art of kurama and karasu (a friend made it for him i think) in his doujinshi, he wanted to make a shonen with gay characters and crossdressing and the list goes on and on. He likes so many things that these others fans are disgusted by and it really looks like they don't know who they are admiring. The reason why ending D got so much negative attention when it came out is because it doesn't sound believable that a mangaka like togashi himself, the same person who made level e and is constantly worried of making an interesting story, would make such a bland and heteronormative ending in a story like hxh no less.

They should just shut up and go do their homework instead, they look ridiculous.

And no, I didn't answer this guy again and I don’t think I will, though I really want to troll him.

If you're shy naturally or only have a lack of confidence in your romantic ability, you're probably not going to have the best time with Enma. Oh, it's not because he's oblivious or because he's second-guessing your feelings for him. It's because he's observant, and very good at it.

He's a sensitive person to others and he's very ready and watchful as soon as he sees something is off with you. He's studying a certain page in a textbook and you've slipped a signed note into said textbook earlier after he had gotten up to wrangle Grim back to study. But it seems this page has what Yuuken needs for his homework and it'll be an eternity before he finds the note so far into the book…

"Hey, partner," oh right, you and Yuuken are sharing a presentation project now, "are you okay? You're staring at my textbook. Do you need one?"

Yuuken was far too nice to say it to you, but he knew you had one just in your bag just on the floor. He's courteous, you can give him that.

"No, it's nothing… don't mind me for a second." You answer, quite nervous at being caught.

He'll notice the sadness and melancholy coming from you as you study your own book later, and ask what's wrong. No matter if you're cool about it or you freak out, his dark eyes will stare you down in silence for a few seconds longer… before going back to reading.

"What's up with the guy?" Ace would complain, noticing your obvious downcast mood and you leaving class faster that day. "He's never been that fast to leave class… well, if it wasn't to chase after Yuuken."

Ace probably knows, whether you tell him or not. Trappola is an observant and nosy kid, and he'll notice if someone is acting strange in the friend group. And especially if someone has a suspected crush… !

Ace won't out you directly, but he can get far too close for your comfort sometimes. Like now.

Deuce and Grim are less likely to find out without a direct hint, and depending on how down bad you are… Ace might just withhold the info to see what Deuce and Grim call your strange behavior. For his own laughs. That, and Ace does want you to succeed… but this is hilarious.

Seeing Ace seemingly know what's going on while Deuce did not made Yuuken give the redhead a stare so judgemental, before Ace gave in and just told Deuce. Of course, Deuce goes, "Oh! I hadn't noticed…"

Yuuken can see your demeanor change far too often when he's around, and he knows you're not this bad of a shaking or nervous mess around him. He's seen how Idia deals with the public, and he's seen you without noticing him yet…

He has an idea why you're acting like that, and he honestly can't believe it. He's not the type to want to pressure someone to tell him the truth, and he'd rather you do so on your own, but he's unsure if you'll ever be able to. Especially with how you can just run away instead of talking to him.

In the near seclusion of the Ramshackle walls, studying away, he turns to you. He stares you down intensely as he always does, and asks you, in front of Grim no less, "Do you have a crush on me?"

Of course the shaky answers of no, no! doesn't faze him out of staring through your nervousness, and further asking, "It's okay if you do, I would have liked if you were upfront with me. I like you back."

Never has he seen a textbook drop so slowly out of a frozen man's hands. He knows you've heard him, so he'll give you your minute to comprehend what he said. He thinks he hears Grim yelling from him room at the ghosts. Have your answer ready anytime today!

but his ships with males always start with the na'vi name (like; Nocorro, Locoreo, Rocorro and Aocorro)

is because Spider is more tiny then them, so he is seen as more feminine.

and i don't really want to talk about this especially since they are minors, but as a more tiny and feminine he is also viewed as the bottom in a sexual reletionship.

Being married to Wei Ying and Lan Wangji is very supportive and full of time best spent together. With how long the war in the martial world had gone on and how many relationships were strained at best, it was nice to travel the lands with your husband's.

Traveling with Apple the donkey was also something special. The donkey is stubborn and only eats apples with no prejudice, but everything else was treated with scrutiny. The donkey seems to have a soft spot after all this time traveling with you and Lan Wangji, and it wasn't giving any courtesy to Wei Ying if he tried to spur it into a gallop for any reason. It's a laugh for you and Wangji, for sure.

Your events across the lands are fantastical when Wei Ying plays his instrument and comes up with lyrics slowly as they pass the time between towns. Lan Wangji does help with lyrics on the basis of correcting wording he prefers, and hopefully you get in on it too (least you get a lovey-dovey version of yourself from your mushy husbands music).

It's by the fifth month of your travels that you can see the residual signs of your home province start to show and the landscape slowly starts to grow familiar. Types of houses start to go from modern to old-style, farming families with new surnames start to grow more familiar, and maybe you saw your clans family sigil a few days time before the capital.

Correctly, on your last night outside of your home city, you tell Lan Wangji and Wei Ying what you're expecting from city life and that this is your hometown that houses your family at the center. Wei Ying seems the most open and happy of the two to finally meet the family of the man he eloped with, but Lan Wangji did ask the best questions at what to expect from them.

You told them to expect the worst. And both took that too heart, knowing your not the type to lie about all this.

You three make a streamline plan on how to meet them and what you all need from this town while you stockpile for the road.

First, you get yourself an inn so no family members can try and tempt you to stay in their house: you know their tricks and you know they aren't above guilting you. Second, you three have your own grocery lists and items to gather so you can function in the wilderness: your list is mostly raw ingredients for the first few days, and not completing it is dangerous. Third, maybe Wei Ying and Lan Wangji can visit if your first visit doesn't end with terrible undertones: and you tell your husbands not to have hope to visit, and they don't.

They love you, they don't need to love your family.

Well, apparently, your family doesn't think that and genuinely thinks you're a male consort to two heathens. The surname of Lan falls on deaf ears upon your visit and you almost want to yell at the eldest family members for trying to convince you to stay. The harsh words of your family makes you strike the third part of your plan, because your husbands would do better collecting bounties then meeting your family.

If it wasn't for one family member you sort of liked asking you for just one dinner at home, you'd have left and been free from the next coming days. Whatever was burning in the incense while you had meditated that night, in your old room and awaiting dinner, you know it wasn't sandalwood or agarwood at all. But it was the last thing you could remember while you were under the influence because of your desperate family.

It's to protect you, they tell Lan Wangji and Wei Ying when they sneak into your home after two days of not seeing you. He was supposed to sign away all his estate at home, the LAN's can't have it! They yelled! But the burning plants of a certain drug had them both in turmoil as they covered their nose to enter your room just after telling their evil plan.

They were burning the drugs along with the agarwood inside the incense stand right above your bed, and you didn't look very good in the afternoon light they saw you in. Wei Ying wanted to carry you through the window, but your weak protests of not knowing what was going on left them pause. You were clearly delirious and at your request to be left alone, they had to leave. They can't expose themselves to it for long either, lest they become under the influence as well. They can only visit in incriminates to feed you proper food, as your families stupidity shows in how thin you got without them.

Sometimes your eyes flash with recognition of them and sometimes it fades into a blank expression, but they can't stay for long. How they wish the room wasn't drugged so heavily where they grow nauseous, or they'd just drag you back to the Cloud Recesses by day one! Nobody seemed to be able to enter for long, and Lan Wangji took note of it carefully.

Older people can't enter the room because it causes nausea and shortness of breath, younger kids can't enter without sickness showing and then becoming sluggish. Only those in their prime could stand to be in there at all, and even a cultivator still coughs at it.

To say Wei Ying and Lan Wangji we're pissed would be an understatement. And on the day they planned to spring you out with medicine and herbs to treat your ails, you were missing from the room and the family drugs had been tossed outside with no care or decorum.

Oh, if they both weren't mad then, they were pissed now. Rightfully so, with their husband yet again being used while under the influence for nefarious purposes, and with fluctuating negative symptoms from constant exposure. Storming the family halls, they managed to see you in your families dining hall because of your slumped stature and the face they can't ever forget twisting in confusion and bewilderment. You looked ill.

They watch in the shadows as you tried pushing away the paper and wooden scrolls they tried shoving at you. Sadly, without physical violence and causing a ruckus, they'll just have to wait till tonight to break your out and get you back to the inn.

They didn't stand for it! Not to their husband! That night, before the maid could light up the new drugged incense while the family yells in frustration outside your door, they break in and slowly gather you and your things without hurting the maid. Of course, with her at sword-point, she wouldn't lose her head for a master that didn't pay her bills.

For now, they just have to hope they give up for the night on getting you to sign whatever it was.

Later, from how close Lan Wangji was compared to Wei Ying, he heard it was a request for a divorce. Wei Ying, of course, panics internally because divorces are hard to get from officials to begin with, and extremely looked down upon by all. How had they gotten documents for that!? Were they trying to ruin your name with a divorce on record? It wasn't their choice, it was yours!

Of course, they'd need to leave this city as soon as possible just in case the maid is very loyal and turned tail immediately to her masters. Apple is hooked up to a tiny cart that can carry at least two people on it and their collected rations and items attached, and they nurse you with medicines in shifts as they leave town.

It didn't take two days for you to open your eyes and get sick, both of them nursing you with clean water and basic meals. Meals from the Cloud Recesses from Lan Wangji and medicine from Wei Ying. After two more days of purging the drugs from your system, your standing and no permanent damage seems to have occurred to your person as you do light sparring.

Of course, your memories are intact but hazy, and after hearing about what happened while you were under... yeah, you're cutting your family off. The Lan's of Gusu are the closest family you and Wei Ying will have, and after no time, it didn't seem so bad.

Especially with a brother-in-law and uncle-in-law who are very cool and supportive with cutting off your family.

Thinking about art and fiction and concepts of ownership and honestly it's kinda fucked that collaborative and transformative storytelling is literally as old as time and one of the most basic human instincts that exists, but the only good word it we have right now is "fanfiction"

and when you tell people you write fanfiction they think you're some kind of cringe weirdo and possibly pervert and then the whole thing gets derailed by this bizarre side discussion into how "No it's not all porn, it's absolutely everything and anything imaginable, duh, but like, even if it were all porn, that would also be okay". Like I'm all for pointing out the double standards about how published authors who put sex into their stories don't lose any respectability (especially if they're men, and especially if the sex is cishet), but the second I, a fanfiction person, add a romantic arc into my plotty casefic suddenly I'm a fujoshi with shipper brainrot etc etc-

But it's tiring that this is even a focal point

My favourite funny and sad thing is watching people (usually dudes) who clearly either view themselves as above fanfiction or have simply never ever thought of themselves as "the type" to do creative writing discover The Fanfiction Urge, because the way they express it is like. An increasingly passionate and detailed video essay about how Movie should have gone instead, or, my favourite, a story about something cool that happened to them in XCOM or Darkest Dungeon or some other Difficult Game For Serious Gamers and by the end of the post they're legitimately just writing prose. Like look at this! LOOK! Damn if this person didn't speedrun the gamerbro-to-AO3 pipeline just for a sec. And not that there's anything wrong with those formats but it makes you wonder if that's something they'd be interested in exploring more if their wings got unclipped

Or DnD. Small wonder that TTRPGs are becoming so popular when they're one of the few increasingly non-cringe ways to do the extremely basic human urge of Tell Story Collaboratively

A friend of mine had this to say recently about his own struggles with this kind of internal bias:

i'd like to try out Thousand-Year-Old Vampire (a solo role-playing game with minimal rules to make you write your own narrative) and my toxic masculinity is getting in the way. discouraging thoughts include: i'm not creative enough; creative writing is for Floofy Humanities types and i am a Cold STEM type; it's not a real game unless it has Systems that you can Study and Master. would anyone like to say something encouraging?

and honestly that's incredibly illuminating innit isn't it. The splitting off of creative activity (not just fanfiction, either) into something only for Floofy Humanities Types but not Serious People and the way it's linked to whether or not you can make money off it... oof.

ngl i just dont rly care that much for fandoms... i like fanfic, i read it and write it, but i dont rly see fandom as my identity or smth i particularly care about, to me all of it is just the same as me playing with barbie dolls.

i dont think its something special that can be compared to actual literature and i think there are certain problems w booktok people relying on tropes that come from fanfic mentality. its just not the same, and i do wish people who like fanfic would sometimes also read.......some actual books sometimes

i just generally dont see what youre describing as some huge thing or problem, i think anti-kink ppl doxxing artists is the major worrisome thing when it comes to fandoms, but i think the doxxers also take the whole fandom experience too seriously

and i say this as someone who also writes fanfic, so like, it rly isnt me going "fanfic authors/readers are stupid", i find fanfic super cool to explore yourself, fanart taught me sooo much as an artist, i even enjoy roleplaying; all of this serves a very real purpose of exploring things as a human in realms of fiction, and pre-existing characters make that easier. i think that can be very useful, we learn about ourselves through books and stories. i just think fandom should be treated the way it is - playtime with toys ✌️

Maya is so so so quirky and funny but she's also pulling a lot of weight in the emotional core of the trilogy. She's so much deeper and more interesting than I think a lot of people give her credit for.

She has a second stomach for steaks and a seconder stomach for sweets.

i want to send her to pokemon world. she deserves to have a jigglypuff.

Aurelio Voltaire - You Married a Fool

it's a song about being a goofy quirky person in public to amuse other people and spread joy and only taking off the mask and showing your real self with the few people you're closest to. which is pretty Maya to me, I think.

i like to think i have it in me the capacity to be a lawyer's weirdgirl.

i think she's a little bit of a fujoshi. not like to a creepy fetishistic extent but she definitely reads magisteel doujins.

she uses emojis to an almost ridiculous degree which tends to really confuse people. like those copypasta memes she types like that unironically. she'll also just send an emoji of a food to nick and that's enough to tell him that she wants him to bring her that food. her top used emoji is in fact 🍔

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

i really like her with franziska. i think there's potential for an intricate web of polycular toxic yuri with a bunch of the other weirdgirls in that age range though.

Patsy "Hellcat" Walker. She was Jen's weirdgirl for the entire 2014 She-Hulk run. Has psychic hell powers. Industrial-strength mommy issues. I think putting these two in the same room would have catastrophic consequences.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

she was my bestest friend back then and she's even more my bestest friend now. she was always up there with my faves but after voicing her in a fandub she's like, number one ace attorney character to me.

With Tumblr staff being reduced to a skeleton crew and website shutdown rumors going around where can ppl find you? Where should the kuroshitsuji fandom migrate to?

At this point, I imagine most folks are keenly aware of the issue anon mentioned above…but, if not, here’s the post summarizing the recently-announced downsizing of Tumblr’s staff, which doesn’t bode well for the site’s longevity. While this news was disheartening, however, I’m not giving in to despair just yet. Others have pointed out that Tumblr isn’t likely to vanish overnight in a puff of smoke; instead, we should probably expect a more gradual decline. If anything, blogger khaleesi notes that a frantic mass exodus would do more harm than good, since a dwindling userbase will lead to Tumblr’s already meager profits drying up. I can only speak for myself, but this obstinate rat has no intention of abandoning ship. If staff wants me gone, they’ll have to chase me into the sea with a pitchfork. 😤 🐀

But it never hurts to have a contingency plan or three to keep our fandoms afloat.

To add insult to injury, Kurotwt is crawling with Seb*ciel fujoshis, though there are a handful of cool accounts to be found. I’ve heard horror stories about the Amino, while Insta is flooded with stolen, uncredited art. I’m vaguely aware of sites like Pillowfort and Dreamwidth that might serve as viable alternatives, but I don’t know enough about either to give you an informed opinion. Mutuals, do y’all have any suggestions for anon?

At the end of the day, I’ll follow my sector of the Kuro corvid flock whither they may wing. No matter how inhospitable the terrain, I’m sure we’ll find a way to build ourselves a cozy nest!

how do you even approach shuake in the year 2023. man. your point about the fan community is an extremely fair point to make bc like. like i was saying before SO MUCH of persona fanbase is so warped based on fan perceptions of characters and its like. distill it and wash that away what do you have left (a shit game) (sorry) but like.

okay this hardly needs to be said but obviously the way persona fandom approaches shuake is EXTREMELY yaoibrained. like, the things that the strongest most powerful fujoshi archmages on tumblr are concocting? What on earth. like. and this ties in to awful fan characterization of akechi, lol. i think there really is, to be honest, a particular inherent problem in fan characterization of shuake (aside from the standard) in which you sort of smooth out the edges of akechi and make him more palatable and acceptable to put him in a relationship. fanfic is wish fulfillmnt at its core and i think...its not unreasonable to say a lot of people are projecting onto him and the healing they wish they could have, but its at the expense of his own character. like, people datamined akechi in therapy and then fucking ran with it. im going to say it outright: shuake is a really interesting pairing that i dont see working in any way. but its the same, or similar way that i dont see jonwalt ever working in any way (yes i see your second ask :3) i think its fun to explore but if i see you writing about a domestic life with them im like, lol. Lol.

on that note, im gonna be completely honest, as much as i love marigolds, i think the actual shipping parts of it are boring as hell unnecessary and i do not care about them, and this is a fic that ive repeatedly said has the best p5 characterization and writing ive ever seen and singlehandedly fixes p5 writing lol. the marigolds author expertly crafted a situation in which shuake would work and would be healthy (not perfect, but a lot better) and it genuinely is just like.. i am not invested in this? i am invested in this because of akechi's healing but part of akechis healing is like, talking to people who aren't akira? Lmao? sorry bit of a tangent.

honestly, its kind of impossible for me to think about what it would be like without the p5 fandom. can you imagine playing through the entire game while never seeing a shitty persona 5 meme? well i can honestly say it probably would have occured to me and i'd like it as a ship but it wouldn't be really that significant to me honestly. at the same time my experiences are clouding it! so i really cannot say.

Genshiken Second Season (ep. 1,3,4,10)

The last bit of this show actually got me interested in it. The updated animation, the introduction of new characters, and more upbeat plots per episode made me find a lot more overall enjoyment in the show and had me chuckling a bit throughout the anime. I think the second season did a good job exploring what it truly means to be an otaku while also exploring the fears and struggles of knowing yourself, your interests and your sexuality.

The idea of being a true otaku is displayed in this season. To be an otaku means to evolve and avidly partake in the media you consume. It’s not enough to simply watch an anime or read manga, but avidly become one with it. This is possible through activities such as cosplaying and writing fanfiction/doujinshi. These activities involve you actively partaking in the fandom you like to attain the fictional desires most otakus have. You grow the media and it changes based on its fan base too. The attributes of certain anime and manga are added to a theoretical database that fans can access and use in their own writings and outfits. This season, we see lots of both cosplay and writing. Chika has embraced her inner otaku and began creating her own original works that draw upon stuff she has seen or read. She has become an active participant in the world of fiction that anime fans love to interact with, which may itself become part of the database as well. The rest of the cast such as Sue, Oone, and Rika express themselves through cosplay to live out and become their fantasies. There is even a scene where Oone mentions how cosplay has to be perfect in order to truly live up to the source material, including wearing (or not wearing) the same type of underwear and having the same tone of voice.

The idea of coming to terms with your person and interests are talked about in this season. Characters who were ashamed of their interests and kinks such as Chika have come to terms with who they are. They no longer need to ridicule others or hide their true colors to be comfortable in their own skin. She has accepted herself as an otaku and removed the stereotypes attached to that label from herself. However, Hato is a special case in this topic. Hato is someone who likes to cross dress as a girl and likes to be seen as a girl while in club in order to show his true interest in fujoshi. Outside of the club, he dresses like a boy and hides his true interests, afraid of being called out for liking guys (which he himself is also conflicted about). Through the episodes we watch, we see Hato break out of his shell and talk about his interests in his guy persona with Maderame, whom he has a somewhat complicated interest in. He is able to show the others in the club both sides of himself and finally learns to feel comfortable saying how he enjoys the fujoshi community. He claims his interest has nothing to do with his sexuality but he starts questioning this a bit when he remembers the level of comfort he has with Madarame. These episodes show that it’s okay to be weary of your sexuality and explore options. There is no shame in that and we as a society should see it as okay too. Furthermore, it helps further extinguish the fear people have about their interest and kinks. In moderation and within reason, there is no reason to be fearful of liking something.

Media Interaction 2022

Part 7: July

Dick Fight Island - I'm not too big into Yaoi, and even if there is fan-made content of my favorite gay pairings, I don't actively seek it out. I'm sure we have all taken a trip to our local Barnes & Nobles and walked passed that one book in the manga section proudly displayed out in the open that immediately caught our attention with its bright yellow bold letters spelling out "Dick Fight Island"

Yes, that is the tile of this manga that I have read through with my own eyes. This is one of the only times I have read anything classified as erotica because this manga is bizarrely explicit. Like the title suggests, every 4 years 8 men from 8 different islands compete in a battle royal suited in scantly clad armor and fight against each other using their armored genitals as blunt objects. Whichever contestant comes out on top is crowned the new king of all the islands but whoever cums first during each match loses. Dick Fight Island is a very short read considering it's only 2 volumes and I greatly enjoyed it. I think it's empowering that something so bizarre and erotic is written and illustrated by a woman. I liked that this manga didn't only just have a cast of conventionally attractive homosexual men each catered to a specific arc type but there were also lesbian characters present in the story. I loved that this manga hit all bases when creating a story involving LGBT characters and wasn't just another erotic manga tailored specifically to fujoshi's.

Golden Kamuy (anime) - After reading through the manga I immediately jumped into watching the anime adaptation of Golden Kamuy and wanted to quickly catch up since I knew my favorite character would be introduced in season 4 coming up in October. I didn't have extremely high expectations for the anime and I could certainly say it's not the greatest adaptation but it's not the worst either. I would strongly suggest reading Golden Kamuy over watching it because this adaptation just can't do the justice this manga deserves, I can not even begin to understand the existence of Golden Kamuy anime onlys. There are probably a few scenes I enjoyed seeing animated but that was about it. The pacing of the first season is very inadequate and some of the chapters are either not adapted at all or they have their own separate OVA which makes it difficult for me to recall when certain events happened in the manga. Things don't start to pick up in the anime until season 3 which I find unfortunate because that's at least 24 episodes that you have to invest in before it gets better. At that point, I would just strongly advise reading the manga because I greatly enjoyed the early chapters in Golden Kamuy when I began to start reading it vigorously every day.

Panty and Stocking - When I heard that Panty and Stocking would be receiving its long-awaited second season I felt a deep sense of dread fill my body, that being said I took it upon myself to sit down and actually make my way through this anime from start to finish. I don't think I have ever sat through anything that gave me such intense secondhand embarrassment. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to force myself to watch this anime but I don't believe in brushing things off without fully examining them at least once. After watching my way through PSG, I strongly feel like I am the only person who has watched the source material. I refuse to believe the cult following for this anime is comprised of individuals that actually watched it. It makes my heart sink so deeply when a lot of animated media is heavily praised solely for its art and animation but is actually extremely lacking in other aspects such as writing, and character development or is just straight-up questionable. I feel like PSG gets a free pass for its awful offensive sexual humor because "the art style is cool" and I feel that's all people talk about when discussing their infatuation with this anime. I will admit I do like the art style of PSG but I feel like the "PSG art style" is more diverse than people make it out to be because there are actually really cool-looking designs and characters outside of the main 2 protagonists. I think another show that easily suffers this same problem is the Power Puff Girls where there is an obvious cast of diverse character designs but the perception of the "PPG art style" outside of the 3 main protagonists is non-existent. If I was to give some credit to PSG where it's due is that there is slight character development, yay! I am not a fan of Panty at all and her character makes me very uncomfortable but I did find some enjoyment in watching her get character development during the last arc of the first season. Even though both Panty and Stocking are dumb and rotten as hell it's clear Stocking is slightly more mature and seeing each of the sisters go through a brief period where they split up leaving Panty to do a lot of self-reflection, it's actually good? I would like to also add that PSG has a very good English dub and is probably one of the top English dubs I have heard when watching anime without subtitles. I don't think I will continue PSG if the second season ever comes out and I am certainly not ready for the culture war that will spawn from the second half of this anime when it finally drops but I was willing to give PSG a try since it is wildly popular.

Catherine Full Body - I think after playing a few games developed by Atlus I wanted to give Catherine Full Body a try. Unlike the previous games I have played by Atlus, Cathrine is a puzzle game and not an RPG. Catherine also includes a lot of elements similar to dating sims but I think I knew right away this game was more profound than that. At first, I deeply regretted buying this game at 50% off on the Nintendo Switch e-shop. I could not believe the horrible choices the protagonist made during the first part of the story. I'm easily made uncomfortable by gendered expectations in heterosexual relationships and Cathrine deals with this a lot but not in a way I would have ever expected. My feelings for this game immediately did a 180 when the character Rin was introduced into the story. I ended up appreciating this game an awful lot and think Cathrine has some of the best character development I've witnessed in media. There are a total of 13 endings in this game and so far I have played through and achieved one, which is Rin's true ending. Out of the 3 "Cathrines" you can pursue I went out of my way to begin a relationship with Rin. Apparently choosing Rin requires some amount of effort compared to Kathrine or Cathrine and I had no idea how careful you have to be when selecting dialogue options in order to begin her route because Rin's route felt so natural and effortless to me in this aspect. I feel like I had this unique experience while playing because my personal attraction is regardless of gender and I would have never guessed the biggest moment in Cathrine Full Body is when Rin is revealed to be a transgender woman. I feel that this aspect of Rin's character is so important and makes her probably the most optimal choice when pursuing a relationship with any of the characters. Out of the 3 women in Vincent's life that he has tragically wrapped himself up with, Rin is the most accepting of Vincent. Rin's open-minded nature has such a positive impact on Vincent's character development and growth as a person. I feel like there is a lot to be said about how the most accepting woman in Vincent's life that sees him for who he is regardless of his flaws, is in fact a trans woman. Rin's true ending is so meaningful to me and I think Vincent truthfully lives a happy life with her because their relationship isn't shaped by heteronormative expectations. Cathrine Full Body is so much more than just "the sex game" and has a very honest depiction of intimate relationships, commitment, and making the right choice all while some supernatural elements are mixed in.

Anywho, I had an interesting question since I feel like you’d give an interesting answer.

If you were to send six of the second generation characters from Fates to the Three Houses universe (similar to how Inigo, Severa, and Owain were sent to the Fates universe), who would you send?

(For bonus content: why would you send them? Which houses would you have them join? Who do you think they’d get along with? Would you pick specific mothers for them? Any other headcannons about this scenario you’d like to share?)

Thank you for your compliments on my blog! It’s always fun to get questions like these.

Before I get to the answers, I just wanted to make a handful of quick disclaimers on my choices. The way I have it set up in terms of mothers/houses is completely disregarding things that seem more… canonical, if that makes sense? Like for example, I wouldn’t necessarily marry some of these characters’ Fates fathers to their Three Houses mothers in terms of chemistry. I tried to go for more based off of what suits the child’s and the mother’s personality. I tried do the same for the actual house choices, disregarding where the mothers would have come from and thus linked the child to. Hope that’s okay!

With that being said, though, here are my thoughts:

1. Shiro, child to Leonie, and the only child who I could not figure out a house for. He’s versatile.

I know it’s a stark contrast for Shiro to go from the son of a future crown prince of a rich country to someone as frugal and humble in origin as Leonie, but I think there are some personality bits there that link them nicely to each other. Their shared determination to win, their sense of both rivalry and respect for a figure in their life, and the older sibling attitude are all things that Shiro and Leonie share. It also may or may not have something to do with Shiro being my favourite Fates child and Leonie my favourite Three Houses girl, but I digress.

With a political situation as heavy as the one we see in Fodlan, I feel like Shiro’s superiority complex and feisty nature could make him both an asset and a liability. He’s a skilled warrior, but his overeagerness and inexperience with more thought-out plans often gets the best of him. He’s not yet ready to be the wise leader type, but in Fodlan he would still be living in a time where that is very much necessary — and that would put him in a position where he’d have to work to grow as a person and become more disciplined.

I’d be quite interested to see the sort of moral perspective that Shiro takes on the war, as when we meet him in Fates, he’s still very much unprepared for this. On the one hand, we could have him still take influence from Ryoma — “we sacrifice the lives of our enemies in order to preserve our way of life, but we must weigh this decision carefully” — or, we could play into the comment he makes about the lack of preparation he has for all of this. His decision on who or what to side with could be much flimsier, because we need to account for Shiro’s uncertainty in this situation. He’s not yet built for leading or for war, and I think that’s something that would be incredibly fun to toy with in Fodlan’s politically charged climate.

2. Nina, child to Hilda, member of the Black Eagles house.

If it were at all possible for Nina to be in this position, I think it would pay to really emphasize that I think we could see a lot of good development for her in this circumstance. A lot of people reduce her to her fujoshi shtick, but the morality she expresses in her paralogue is actually quite intriguing. I think I could see her having an appealing moral struggle, wanting to do whatever it takes to help the little people in Fodlan, while also questioning the means through which she is going to do so. I don’t know if I see her being entirely believing in Edelgard, but I almost feel like she might consider it — especially with someone like Niles as a father. Tearing down a structure of nobility would probably sound pretty good to someone like her.

I think I would want to send someone like Nina because she adds a layer of complexity to the situation at hand. She’s more likely to sympathize with the commoners, as I said, but she’d also be more likely to try and see how Edelgard’s rhetoric would actually help them. I see her very much as someone who would scrutinize all possibilities if she were ever to pick a side, and if she didn’t, then I could absolutely see her as someone using any power she had to help out those who are being crushed by the horrors of the war.

It is for this reason that I could see Nina as a Black Eagle. After all, they have the most moral struggle with either joining Edelgard on Crimson Flower or supporting Rhea in Silver Snow, so I think my uncertainty about Nina’s placement leads me to believe that she’s probably a good fit for a Black Eagle no matter where she would choose to align herself in the world of Three Houses. In terms of who she might get along with in that house, I could probably see her aligning herself closely to Dorothea and Bernadetta. She would most likely spend some time trading stories with Bernadetta, and would slowly end up growing a bit protective of the nervous girl. As for Dorothea, well, I just think their personalities would probably mesh well enough.

3. Shigure, child to Mercedes, member of the Blue Lions house.

Maybe it’s just because the Blue Lions route is supposed to be closest to the typical FE lord’s journey and Shigure is such a plot relevant character, but I cannot see Shigure being anything but a Blue Lion. While he might not be a child of Valla in this AU, it is likely that he may retain the understanding of the harm that these conflicts and war bring, so I could see him being an advocate for Dimitri’s interest in more democratic style of ruling. Furthermore, I think he’d also be a strong advocate for the people of Duscur, or perhaps only someone who believes that blind hatred isn’t the right path to take. Shigure is about peace and justice first and foremost, and he’s not unwilling to sacrifice to get it, so I think it just makes the most sense for him to be on the Blue Lions path. Plus, if we’re talking in terms of just actual sense in sending them... as I said, Shigure’s kind of got a thing about blind hatred being bad (considering, you know, Azura being his mom). It would be great for people in Fodlan to see more of that kind of attitude, to help foster stronger relationships between countries instead of whatever weird imperialism is going on.

In terms of selected mothers, admittedly, I might have chosen Mercedes because she, in some part, reminds me of Azura. Her sort of gentle, soft demeanour reminds me a bit of Azura, so I could see the also gentle Shigure making a reasonable son for her to have. Furthermore, Mercedes is also known to have her snippier moments from time to time with characters like Lorenz, and Shigure shares those as well, so it’s kind of like an “apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” concept to me.

As for who I think he’d get along with... well, I dunno if I can actually tell you anyone specific. I think he’d get along with most of the Lions, but perhaps Dedue and Annette in particular. I think Annette’s cheerful but hardworking attitude is somewhat reminiscent of Kana, and I think the equal parts of quiet-and-gentle that come from Dedue would make them fast friends indeed. They’d definitely garden together. Otherwise, I think he probably wouldn’t get along with Sylvain or Felix. He’s a fairly tolerant guy, but someone with so little respect for women and the other with so little respect for others in general would probably rub him quite the wrong way. Those two could easily earn themselves a curt dismissal on his part.

4. Sophie, child to Ingrid, member of the Blue Lions house.

With the culture of chivalry that Sophie seems to believe in, I hope it’s not too far of a stretch to see how Sophie would be a Blue Lion and the daughter of Ingrid. I could see Ingrid probably training Sophie to be a knight from a young age, similar to how Silas did, and Sophie responding to the situation with total glee. As a knight, I think she would concern herself greatly with serving and protecting the people in Fodlan, and would do her best to act on her moral compass as much as possible.

While for some of the children I think of their political positions in relation to the ones in 3H are more dubious, I think Sophie is probably pretty Azure Moon-based. She’s not the type of person who would be willing to do a “greater good” conquest, and I think her father’s neutrality in all routes suggests that Sophie herself is likely to be less concerned with Golden Deer matters. I’m honestly not even sure how recruitable she’d be. I think she’d be possible for Silver Snow or Verdant Wind, but... I think Crimson Flower is probably a no. She is incredibly steadfast in her values, and if she feels she is hurting people she is supposed to be protecting, then I don’t see her budging on that. For her, it’s just a lot of going where she’s needed and doing her best to help the people there, even if she’s probably going to stumble over herself along the way. She’s still Sophie, after all.

In terms of people she’d get along with, other than Ingrid, I could see Sophie being friends with Annette, Mercedes, and probably Flayn. She also might look up to someone like Catherine. With someone so accident-prone but still cheerful, it makes sense to me that Sophie would probably pick out people that match that energy. Flayn, Annette, and Mercedes are all capable of handling her as she is, and I think Catherine would be more than happy to have her trailing behind, even if she does make a mess of things sometimes.

5. Forrest, child to Dorothea, member of the Black Eagles house.

Finding where I want to place Forrest is... hard. His mother and his house came to me easily, but in terms of actual moral alignments? Yeah, I’m a bit stuck there. I could see him living in almost a Charlotte-like situation, wanting to get into sewing clothes as he does in Fates in an effort to help give his mother something to fall back on. After all, Dorothea’s lived much of her life in fear that she will not be able to marry rich and thus have nothing after her youth fades. I could see Forrest wanting to open a tailor shop both to pursue his passion, and to support his beloved mother. I think they’d have an adorable mother-son relationship, but that’s probably not the only answer you’re looking for.

I think Forrest fits in best with the Black Eagles because I think he could go either way on CF/SS a bit like Nina. I do not see him caring much for Hubert, being a bit exasperated by Caspar (but still liking his energy), being acquaintances with Linhardt... and probably enjoying the company of Ferdinand to some capacity. As for the women, I think he and Edelgard might like each other, but definitely be a bit at odds. Forrest, like Leo, has his particularities, but so does Edie, so I think they might lock horns a bit. That being said, I can see a bit of a fondness forming for Petra and Bernadetta, who really are just very sweet girls who want to do their best. Definitely would include a support conversation about him making a dress for Bernie so she can feel beautiful, and maybe one with Petra teaching him about Brigid fashion and making her clothes so she can feel more at home.

My ultimate difficulty with his morality placement is just because he is a member of the nobility as Leo’s son and, as he exists in his canon, has lived a somewhat sheltered life. I think he would want to make an effort to understand others, but does that mean believing what Edelgard tells him? I’m not sure if it would be like him to swallow what she’s saying to him without actually investigating it himself. If he were available on CF, I could definitely see it as more of a cautious suspicion attendance. Sort of like how a lot of the characters on CF actually don’t sound so sure that they made the right choice (Linhardt literally gives “I dunno, it would be work to fight you” as his reasoning, so I feel like anything goes). All in all, he’s pretty hard to place, but you could argue that this is part of the fun!

6. Ophelia, child to Marianne, member of the Golden Deer house.

Okay. Hear me out. I know Marianne doesn’t seem like the most likely mother of a child like Ophelia, but think about it: Marianne, a noble with blood that seems cursed, who has always had a hard time believing in herself and her worth as a person because of it? And her sweet daughter, Ophelia, who loves her mother to pieces and wants her to know just how great she really is? Just saying, that’s super cute. Ophelia’s energy matches up very nicely against Marianne’s shyness, and I just know Marianne told her all kinds of stories growing up and fostered that wonderful imagination of hers. I could see them having a very warm relationship, where Ophelia thinks the world of her mother and Marianne doesn’t know what she did to deserve a daughter so special. Just adorable all around.

The natural eccentricity that Ophelia exudes makes me feel like she would make an excellent member of the Golden Deer house. While it’s not comparable to the suffering people face based on background, she knows what it’s like to feel like an outsider just because you don’t think or act like everyone else. She’d naturally want different groups of people to learn how to understand each other and get along, so I think following Claude’s dream of breaking down the invisible barriers between people would really appeal to her. Overall, I think Ophelia is a good choice just because of that bright spirit of hers. She’s down to do anything that will help others because she sees herself as Ophelia Dark, Legendary Heroine. She’s going to do what she believes is right and look out for the people who need her, which is something that’s very important in Fodlan’s political climate, I’d say.

In terms of who she’d respond most to, I could actually see her maybe being friends with Ignatz and Raphael. I think she’d model a lot of paintings for Ignatz, or maybe give him inspiration through her grandiose fantasies. They’d probably have a lot of fun hanging out together and telling stories, and Ophelia’s high energy against Ignatz’s gentleness just matches well. As for Raphael, I think it’s a similar thing — positive attitude plus positive attitude. I could see them enjoying plenty of feasts together. Otherwise, she might also enjoy the company of Leonie — if only because she makes up a lot of stories about the future of Leonie Pinelli, Blade Breaker Two, the Greatest Mercenary in All of Fodlan. It might make Leonie a bit embarrassed, but it’s the thought that counts, and she’d definitely recognize that Ophelia’s only looking to be friendly.

In conclusion...

The six children of Fates I would send to the Three Houses universe are Shiro/Shinonome, Nina/Éponine, Shigure, Forrest/Foleo, and Ophelia. Definitely a bit of an unbalanced Hoshido vs. Nohr thing there, but I feel like these are the kids that would probably fit in the best. After all, would be kind of funny if in addition to Fates, we had to do more of the game hopping thing with Cordelia, Gaius, and Tharja again.
