Having RSD in public spaces is the worst bc it's like I need permission to exist too noticeably. Even if everyone is super friendly if I'm even risking being boring or "too much" then I get so scared like oh god everyone's going to get so sick of me as if the worst crime I could ever commit is to be uninteresting

OH MY GOD in your text post abt being called problematic as a teenager, I had the same thing happen to me. Everyone complained to a moderator about stuff I did (I'd say the worst of it was constantly forgetting things on the blacklist, but I would always go back and spoil it when reminded and I mostly forgot squicks because i shared triggers with a lot of the people in there) instead of taking it directly to me and when I got removed (in the middle of the night without warning), the mod told me I had to apologize to everyone if I wanted back in. Would not tell me what I had done wrong to who specifically, I was just supposed to remember. And when I asked for their discords the mod wouldnt give them to me because I "might make them uncomfortable". How the FUCK was I supposed to apologize to them???
Anyway. On the list of things I did wrong were two "personal gripes" equating to "you talk too much" and "you manage to throw yourself off track during conversations" and I like... half the people in the gc also did that. It was full of people with ADHD. I gave up lol
NO BUT TALKING TOO MUCH WAS FOR REAL ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES THEY HAD LMFAOOO I was also called annoying for infodumping about the fandom the discord server was dedicated to IN the channels meant for discussing or posting about canon. Like literally just "yes you're in the right channel we just think it's annoying when u post specifically <3"
Anyway the ableism of it all was so bad that I wrote out a google doc for myself with ideas on how to mask what I soon learned was ADHD, autism, and trauma lmao. Here's a fun excerpt

If you’re upset and want to vent, consider going to your vent blog, or going to a more private place! Before venting something ask yourself the following questions: will hearing your upsetedness leave others feeling burdened or guilty? Is this something you can work out on your own? Is this a topic that others can comment on without feeling like they will insult you? If the answer to any of these questions is a negative, then consider venting in another place or directing your energy to another activity!
Is there something you want validation on? It’s okay to seek validation, but you need to be thoughtful of where, when, and with who! Try to find people who would find enjoyment in whatever it is you created, or who share similar experiences! If you still can’t think of anything, it’s okay to try and validate it yourself! You need to work on loving yourself, instead of making others feel responsible!
Instead of thinking the worst of yourself (and by extension people’s treatment or opinions of you) try and think of something positive! Instead of brooding over something you dislike about someone, try complimenting them on something you do like! If you feel uncomfortable with this, you can always send them a nice anon if you know their blog.
End ID]
Like I really thought this was the epitome of health and not toxic positivity at all and on one hand it's sad because I was a kid just literally being abused and gaslit at this point on the other hand it's so fucking funny.

robb-greyjoy a réagi à votre billet :
[[MOR] I need to get it out of my chest. ast...
not familiar with this series but ya seem to be often having serious problems as a genre :/
Don’t bother getting into the series, I still need to remind my friend she owes me watching “A Silent Voice” together after suffering through this book - otherwise I wouldn’t have touched this book ever in my life.
ahem... poor Lavi and Merel suffered from me ranting with no stop and filter about it.
Once I got deeply into reading the Twilight tsunami flooded the book stores and libraries and drowned all good choices in 11 year old age range. So I either found and alternative in manga, or try out Twilight and their copy cats.
Writing Style: The writing styles are pretty interchangable. Many have a simple structure yet are cluttered with too many adjectives pulled out of the thesaurus. Let alone that I can barely point out a spcific style among famous YA authors. Even if some authors have intriguing ideas about fantasy worlds or topics they often get disenchanted by ignoring “show don’t tell” by a terrible amount of infodump. The minitious detail brought up, which could be interesting to explore, are often enver brought back or flat out irrelevant. The world isn’t getting enriched by it, if it isn’t at least a detail relevant for the environment. Most of it drowns in the romance anyway...
A lack of cause and reaction is often something dragging these books out for me... Saying, somethings happen because the happen but they barely progress the story on a metalevel, neither does the protagonist grow or change by it... And let’s be honest, the stories aren’t that deep that would actually would bring the nihilism of “Nightcrawler”.
Perhaps I would have my beef of taste with one specific author nonetheless this was something itching me in every YA romance book I was naively turning the pages of.... For all, this criticism goes broadly to “bad style”. Worse “forgettable style”.
The characters: Even before the Hunger Games copy cats with Rosamunde Pilcher lense brought back the narrative of the special girl everybody seems to fall for was popular.
The female protagonist: horrifyingly bland. Melancholia or suffrage seems to be an inspiring juxtapostion for a later narrative surrounding here by her getting draped into affection - if only the authors understood suffrage properly. I remember the horror of “Selection” in which the protagonist suffered from poverty but had a treehouse, and lived in a house, and could always afford paint.... She can have any attributes like courage or resiliance, many decisios they take seem to be made out of stupidity (what happens if I do the thing everybody warned me about anyway? My survival instinct, making me so special? Sacrificied for the sake of drviing the plot forward!).
Considering that these books are aimed at teenage girls, I find one thing terribly disturbing: beauty. These books are obsessed with ideal beauty. The love interests are of course handsome, so is the female maincharacters. Often they down talk it, “my cheekbones are too sharp” “Eyes too uptitled” - too much corresponding to the Western beauty standart. And they’re of course all thin. Yet she insists being surprised on men reacting stunned the moment she puts on a fancy gown... I never read about any female protagonist being anything else than a perfect beauty.
Love interests: Either you get a sweet protective guy who’s.... sweet, caring gentle - a perfect comfort fantasy but none who would equilibrate a fault of the female character. Or the bad boy. He’s cheeky, does some things which are sexualy exciting, behaves rough but all to protect her. Of course he’s tornmented. But he always cares for her. They’re predictable what they’ll do to court the girl. And interechangable by the very same types of love interests from other YAs...
All in all, these characters are predictable, taking out a lot of excitement since I alread know the characters. To say: Read one, read all.
Romance: How am I supposed to get excited for two cardboards experiencing the first hormonal high?
On serious note, the romances always roam from annoying to disturbing to me.
The protagonists are teenagers so I always keep in my back that a lot of things are hormonal driven. And, oh boy, so many raging hormones! When the female character describes her interest in the male character it’S too often is related to his looks - most likely muscles, and his face (a teenage boy... yeah... totally). Then there’re incidents of first interest. They’re not romantic yet physical. Of course getting your chin titled up, being held protectively, kissing the neck is exciting, but not necessarily something I could equotate with a reason to romantically get interested. With barely any personality, I find it cofusing how two teenagers proclaim an undying love over finding the other attractive and great but.... nothing else.
Let alone that the romance is happening is held at a high stake: the instances of falling in love are always painted out utterly kitschy - but the love interest never slips, never is truly emabrassing or has bad habits which can not be framaed as endearing or sexy. Talking of “sexy” - sex scenes. They are allusioned to even explicit, and for the first time the practice is overly professional, and overidealized. The characters treat their sexuality with a suaveness not habitual for teenagers, no insecurites exist - an option but “perfect” does not exist. Also there’re the incidents when the boy behaves rapey, or nears her in a non-consensual manner, while lines “but my body responded”, “still the heat in me” undermine any kind of autonomy.
These romances based on nothing, in which I can not figure out which personality trait counterbalances the other, or actually brings development, are not always comprehensible.
But worse it was resolutes. Often a love declaration and the story itself resolves with the vow of neverending love. For this love the characters risk their neck but even give up things dear to them, or sometimes commited hineous crimes. But for what? For someone the girls can’t even give a reason why he’s the ultimate component in her life?
[Intermission: Even as LGBTQA-relationship I would find a horrible kitsch if there wasn’t a reason how exactly a person is an essential part of your live. Basically I was dissapointed by Carol(the movie still need to read the book, I can’t Blacksmith would writer in sucha superficial manner). Lesbians not dying isn’t convince me that it was a worthwhile romance just because Carol attractive.]
The only YA I genuinely likedd were the Diviners. Nothing groundbreaking but for the fact it was set in the 1920s, subverting some tropes. Of course the main character is pretty  and she’s well aware of it. Using this knowledge, looks and talents, makes her selfish, and dismissive, actually having an impact how others react to her behavior. The silent love interest is actually good for her, grounding her, and also calling her out on her bad behavior, making her overthink her mistakes. Then came the love triangle  and the clichée gay drama in the sequel....
All in all, I hate this genre for three major reasons:
The first, It’s highly predictable, and the writing style is often lousy. I honestly ask myself why they the editiors let pass a lot of logical gaps, or ragging scenes. The Romance YA books tend to have a low quality in the technical aspects. (these boos cost already 14 Dollar by copy, entire series of paperwaste costs overproportionally much to the quality.)
The second would also be the messages send out to the target audience: Even with best intentions, so much gets undermined that all the authors describe is “perfection”. The girl is perfect, so is the boy, so is their first time. The romance exists for pure sexual reasons. At teenage years it’s not only highly questonable a vow of undying love would last forever, it’s disturbing that the only option for love presented at teenage girls is commitment without freedom.
For all, I hate how predictable and low qualty the genre is, how often logical questions appear in my head, but also highly questionable presentation of feminitiy, romance, and also sexual autonomy to the target audience. And it’s not like YA with intelligent girls, or better struggles than “will the hot guy notce me, who’s too much adhering to the Western beauty ideal?”
Another last thing would be, that some authors earn a terrible lot of fame and money, and have no questioning in the sexual content. Even in the 19th bad treatment of woman in literature was common but at least it’s seen as morally distasteful, and yeah... bad thing. Not as something the women is into anyway despite saying “let me go”.
the third is the critique reactions. Let alone that I think of these books as low quality on a technical level but also claiming to be “feminist”. With main characters who’s only flaw is clumsiness, and otherwise are nothing but perfect, perfect body, perfect look, not having a character flaw actually influencing the events of the story, and are defined by the male they end up with, I question the idea to present these figures as actual role models for girls
sorry for the novel, it’s 2 am, and I have so much anger having wasted my time on this book...!
