The first time I read something from you it was your Tully and mud analysis in reddit. It's part of why I think Arya will sail, she's very connected to water. Especially how the Tully funeral rites are similar to vikings. Sadly, her fans are delusional and reject her bond to her mother's side of the family. I don't know what went wrong that made her attract the kind of fans that reject everything she's associated with but she deserves better than being another Lyanna, Missandei 2.0, or whatever.

Thanks! I tried reddit but I was disheartened by many of the anti Sansa takes. But "Tully mud" is also here on tumblr (check my master meta list).

I speculated before season 8 that Ary@ would pull a Frodo and sail into the West and since we know about Ary@'s ending many more foreshadowings have been discovered and though I sincerely hope that Ary@ will return for visits, I think there can be no doubt, that she will set sail.

I actually like Ary@ and back when I first read the books I related to her and Jon the most. Her fans have soured the character for me though, I must admit that. I've yet to have a calm discussion with one of her fans and I never go into the tag and as you can see I censure the name and the tag because I'm honestly so fed up with their post jumping, anon rants and everything. And they still somehow find me. 😑. Just for the record, there must be some fans around who do not break tumblr etiquette daily and quietly fangirl about her in their corner and I say: Good for them.

As you said what baffle me the most is what they want for Ary@. It's not what Ary@ herself wants and neither is it in any way logical. They accuse Sansa of being shallow and superficial only interested in her beauty and then they decided that for Ary@ the best way to "win" over her "evil, evil" sister is to .... become beautiful and a queen. Because Ary@ who really wants to escape the stereotypes should conquer her sister in these very stereotypes. 🙄. It just makes no sense.

They also want Sansa to die as if Ary@ wouldn't be devastated about that. It really, really baffles me and I don't think they understand her character at all.

As for why she has fans like that: That is easy. It's the internalized misogyny. It's the idea that male-coded activities are better and that therefore "not like other girls" are better than feminine girls. But at the same time "not like other girls" should be good-looking and to show that they are better than their co-women/girls they should not only beat them in male-coded activities but also in genuine feminine feminine areas. You know the super hot fighting heroine in heels (even better when she is pregnant, showing that she ticked that box as well). It sets such high standards for women that are almost impossible to achieve.....

Anyway, I try to avoid them.

sadly yes. there are and have been frodo antis for a *very very* long time. jirt even received a letter once saying that frodo “should have been executed as a traitor” for falling to the ring in mount doom. and still there persists at the very least a real antipathy toward his character even now. like there’s a faction in the fandom even after all this time that still see his character as “weak” and “whiny” and not a hero. shit for brains me thinks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had a whole post typed out, and then Catherine replied to my tweet and I went to see and fucking tumblr deleted it.

So yeah. I’m panicked too. (So much so that I’m on the Kalms as well as the actual anti anxiety meds). But. It is going to work out, we can be fairly certain of that.

Which means we just need to decide what to do with the clusterfuck timeblip in the canon. (Anyone want to write 13 coming and saving the day?) We are fandom. We can deal with this. Many of us have dealt with worse. (Last Fucking Tango....) We can ignore it, or we can work with it, and either way, we can respect that some in the fandom will deal with it differently.

Personally - I don’t like cheating. I hate the bi cheating trope. I hate character assassination. BUT. I do trust Catherine to work amazingly well with whatever she’s given. Jemma too. They are bloody good actresses. That’s why we love them. And - bear with me - there are times when a blip, a flaw, a fault like this does actually make a relationship stronger. What doesn’t kill you etc etc. Think of that Chinese art form of putting broken thighs back together with gold (Kintsugi). The couple that stay together against all odds, that recognise that they’re only human and they do fuck up, that realise that love is more important than moments of weakness. If that is well done (and with Catherine and Jemma to hand, it should be) it can be beautiful. Like this:

Even if it’s not what we want. Even if it’s not what we ourselves would do. Even if - sigh - it is engaging with a horrific, insulting trope that should be consigned to the dustbins of history.

Ok, we’ve seen this before. I just think it’s a timely reminder.

That investment isn’t about to be chucked away. Even if they have a slightly different view of what to do with it...

“Drama needs drama” - unfortunate but sadly true. Whilst the Berena fandom would cheerfully tune in for week upon week of Berena fluff - no one else would. They are trying to do everything and that will never please everyone all the time.

(I’m just going to choose to believe that none of the tumblr fans are the people causing Catherine to need a tin hat. Please don’t be that person. It shouldn’t need said.)

Anyway, it’s sheeting rain and windy here (just like my mood) and I have to take Serena cat for a walk (yes she is that determined) and phone the Dr for more anxiety meds (lol) before heading to uni. But let’s try and hope for the best, and believe in the true captain of our ship?
