you can & should be deeply suspicious of anyone trying to sell you the narrative that making posts or spreading information abt palestine and gaza is not doing anything or is not important, especially when it comes with the tagline that you're incredibly "misinformed" and don't understand the "history" of the subject. spreading information counteracts propaganda and misinformation campaigns.
the court of public opinion is not some abstract nonsense concept; public opinion in egypt being overwhelmingly pro-palestinian is giving its leaders pause when considering selling out to american promises of greater economic relationships in return for opening routes to permanently displace palestinians from their homeland (thus enabling and abetting genocide of palestinians). (btw american attempts to "secure" a safe route of exit for palestinians to egypt is not out of interest for palestinian safety, because israel refuses palestinians the right of return. this is america agreeing with israel - stay, and be killed, or give up your ancestral lands and home. IT IS COLONIALISM.)
so talk. keep talking. KEEP TALKING. bc you SHOULD be outraged that gazan children are being shelled to extinction, and have been for the past seventy five years. you should talk about the nakba. you should talk about how this is not about religion - christian Palestinians and jewish palestinians are being killed in droves. israel went so far as to shell areas where their own hostages are being kept - this is not about safeguarding israel. it is about land. it is about TAKING LAND from indigenous people. we are seeing, in real time, the violence of colonialism, and we should talk about it. we should RAGE. it is not acceptable, we cannot stay quiet. where colonialism happened before in silence, in isolation, the whole world is watching, and out unequivocal stance should be THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A WAR CRIME, THIS IS GENOCIDE, AND WE CONDEMN THOSE TAKING PART AND THOSE COMPLICIT. talk about it on social media, show up to protests, give money, talk, talk, talk. sitting in silence while people are being genocided is not some sign of intellectualism or superior understanding of a "nuanced" stance on the subject - it is COMPLICITY.
to clarify - idc what you do on tumblr dot com. this is not really a platform for activism or whatever but im specifically talking abt people on socmed who tell you staying silent is better than doing something “uninformed”. like express support for palestine without 'understanding the nuance'. there is no nuance. it's a genocide. we are witnessing genocide. people telling you that talking abt a 'complex issue' does nothing are LYING TO YOU. it is NOT complex. and talking and expressing your opinion as a member of the public DOES do something. that's why the first thing oppressive states take away is your right to protest and congregrate. DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE LIES.

Okay originally i was meh about the Palestinian genocide by israel (though i didn't call it that at the time) saying that both sides were kinda shitty because one side is a terrorist organization and the other is a recognized terrorist organization but hearing about the gaza internet/communications blackout and actually seeing pictures of the bombings i'd like to remind everyone that if I see you show even the slightest complacency or support for israel I will be coming to your house and hitting you over the head with a metal bat

im so serious if any of you put some vote blue no matter who uwu shit on my dash im breaking mutuals bidens office has publicly stated that they are Not withdrawing support for israel despite the literal fucking blackout they just put gaza in. biden publicly doubted the death toll published by the PALESTINIAN HEALTH MINISTRY. american foreign policy has real fucking consequences even if you personally dont see it from fucking chicago or california or whatever. even ignoring how fucking awful genocide joe is abt palestine, look at how much shit has gotten worse during his time in office. the repeal of roe v wade. the borders have gotten worse. his lax stance on covid policy is leading to thousands of deaths per day. still no student loan forgiveness. all these anti lgbt laws are being passed while Hes in office and everyones acting like he has no fucking power over any of it despite being the literal president like OPEN YOUR EYES

In high school one of our history classes (I think it was APUSH - Godspeed Mr. S) had us do an activity. We broke into groups and got a word bank full of infrastructure, institutions, and political buildings. We were supposed to rank them in what order we thought would be most effective to destroy military opposition. I don’t remember which group won (by having the most similar ranking to reflect whatever war we were studying at the time) or what my group ended up choosing for our ranking.
But I do distinctly remember looking at civilian hospitals, civilian homes, civilian schools and discussing them as targets with my group members. “good targets if we need to destroy morale” versus “we’re not invading, we’re just going after military targets.”
“If we were invading or trying to wipe them out, they’d be a priority - we would need to destroy places of community, places where safety is assumed.”
I’ve been thinking about that discussion a lot lately.

i saw a post a while ago about how it's Okay to Ignore Palestine Posts because of mental health and how internet is escapism and blah blah blah. and it's like, okay. sure. mental health is important, but somehow i feel this is actually willful ignorance wrapped up in pretty language to feel more comfortable and justified in staying comfortable.
gonna copypaste some notes i took a while ago, bc it resonated w me and i feel is relevant to this kind of behavior, so i hope it resonates with u as well:
"The experience of being abandoned by humanity and then not being heard occurs when stories of resilience takes precedence over tales of inhumanity."
"Our responsibility is to change our narrative or 'internal working model'; to recognize vulnerability and revision a way to sensitize ourselves to hardship that our own coping and privileged experience allow us to avoid."
"And basically what that means is when we think about the stories of others, when we hear things that we don't necessarily like to hear, we have a choice. We go with it, we move forward in it, and we continue to in some ways enter the people's lives with whom we work, or we retreat. We go back to our privilege, and we think about their stories as something that we're not able to relate to or connect with."

ive always had issues with the term "terminally online" mostly because of how it swiftly devolved to just mean "anyone online i disagree with", however recently it did finally click for me when someone messaged me about my aaron bushnell posts and ended it with "yeah idk i just think it would've done more good for him to stay alive and donate to esims for gaza" bc i just. like. where do you even start with that. like that to me is an opinion that cannot come from anywhere other than having your entire frame of reference for activism and the united states military be gathered online. you really think someone who thought they had to /kill themselves/ to avoid /active contributions to genocide/ would've done more good just. keeping their head down and doing what they were told and throwing a spare couple dollars at the esims fund? do you think you know more about the harm he was helping do than he did, that you can speculate on how best to outweigh it? do you think if "donate to esims" was actually a more productive option he wouldnt have picked that before SELF IMMOLATION???? and like ive since blocked that person because of some other issues but. it took quite literally everything in me not to say anything about it in the moment

"Voting for biden is damage control" there are literally candidates on the ballot who dont support throwing USAmerican money that could go towards, idk, helping people not starve and die? Towards Israel's genocidal tirade
