Sheik & The Other Sages.
Rauru, Sage of Light (the Goddesses turn him into an OWL): Difficult time respecting him when he really didn't help Link all that much. Really frustrated with him essentually word vomitiing at Link and then throwing him at Sheik with a big old Good Luck Guide! Even less respect when he gets reincarnated into an owl.
Saria, Sage of Forest: Can't even look at her after taking her best friend and turning him into a truma riddled child soldier that he needed to use and then toss back out after he was done with him. He's pretty sure she hates him.
Darunia, Sage of Fire: Didn't interact with him much, kinda intimidating, overly friendly. Enjoys attempting to hug Sheik, would prefer he didn't. Sheik is fairly certain he enjoys MAKING him uncomfortable.
Ruto, Sage of Water: Considering he saved her life she feels indebted to him. As Royalty Sheik treats her with the well deserved respect she's entitled to. He's really tired of her talking about being engaged to Link though.
Impa, Sage of Shadows (replaced by Sheik): Sheik loves his mother. He loves her dearly no matter how he believes she feels over him. He also holds a great deal of respect for her, especially as their Tribe Leader. However, he has a very difficult time feeling like her son and not just her warrior. When he takes her place they do reach some sort of mutual understanding in each other that fixes part of that burned bridge.
Nabooru, Sage of Spirit: Sheik likes Nabooru. She respects his personal space, she's easy to get along with, she understands his burden of being a future tribe leader. She has an easy and nice personality, light hearted and yet clearly a leader through and through. She's probably one of the few people he's met that he'd tenatively give the title of friend to. If he didn't think she'd laugh at him over it.
Zelda, Seventh Sage (Leader & Time): Though she claims to be against Sheik taking Impa's place, he struggles with believing her. Their relationship is very rocky though he of course gives her the respect she deserves. No matter what Zelda ever does, he will always respect her and defend her.

Brass I will never stop harassing you, what's your favorite version of Zelda? (Mine is twilight princess, but that may be biased because it's my favorite Zelda game, but she's just so badass)
Ooooohh this is an interesting question. Never thought about this objectively, so how about I talk myself through it here, and decide at the end. Zelda I, of the Legend of Zelda II: the Adventure of Link, and Zelda II, of the Legend of Zelda.
Tumblr media
Zelda I, chronologically first, game second. The King of Hyrule told his daughter the location of the Triforce and then died. Her brother, a scheming Prince, begged her to tell him the location so he could take it for his own. When she refused, he hired a magician to curse her into eternal slumber. Link spends the game collecting the Triforce and uses it to wake her up, and gets a smooch behind a stage curtain for his trouble. She is very cute, in a Princess Peachy kind of way.  Zelda II, chronologically second, game first. She splits the Triforce up into chunks to save it from Ganon, then conspires with her nursemaid, Impa, to find someone strong enough to beat him. She shares a character design with her slumbering ancestor. Cute. Zelda from Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures
Tumblr media
I’ll be honest, I did not have enough friends to play any of the multiplayer Zelda games, so all I know about her is how cute she is. Very cute, Windwaker style but not that recycled character design. SPEAKING OF
Zelda from the Minish Cap
Tumblr media
This Zelda and Link are childhood friends. Before she gets kidnapped, they pal around a festival for a while, and you get a good feel for he character before she’s snatched. A bit stubborn and bratty, but also very kind. She’s pictured in this art holding the shield she wins Link in a raffle, which she promptly presents to him as a gift. There’s not much to say about this one!
Zelda from a Link to the Past and a Link Between Worlds
Tumblr media
When the wizard Aghanim usurps the throne from under her father, this Zelda  telepathically contacts Link and his retired knight uncle for help. Uncle dons his equipment and goes to save her at the castle, but is immediately killed. Notably my personal “first” Zelda. She spends most of the game waiting in the shelter of the Sanctuary, a temple built to the three Goddesses. The Zelda of a Link Between Worlds has a lot more to do in the plot, but doesn’t necessarily have a more interesting character. The designs are cute. She’s fine. Princess Hilda is MUCH more interesting and dynamic, but this ain’t about her.
Zelda from Twilight Princess
Tumblr media
The master of the tactical surrender, this Zelda comes across as a patient planner. She surrenders her “light” (Triforce? unclear) to save Midna’s life. In the manga, they were childhood friends who spoke to each other through a little rift, and I thought that was interesting. Her vacant body gets possessed by Ganondorf, resulting in a memorable boss fight, and she rides with you on horseback at the end. She makes a lot of tough calls and always does what’s best for the people around her. A good leader. Plays the long game, supports other women. Doesn’t have much of a relationship with Link at all, but this ain’t about him Come to think of it, it’s kind of a trend at this point for Zelda to play second fiddle to a beloved “dark lady” counterpart. I am fine with this Zelda from Skyward Sword
Tumblr media
This Zelda starts as a spirited, reckless teenager, and that’s where she’s most likeable. Her separation from Link is genuinely heart wrenching, and the game definitely sells the romance between them. Since she’s the reincarnation of a Goddess who pretty much planned her entire life, this Zelda comes across as a helpless pawn caught up in a web of intrigue much bigger than herself. Has little to no agency, which is more excusable for the older games than the newer ones. It would be nice if she got to make more choices for herself, but it’s fate fate fate from start to finish. There’s stuff to like here, but a lot of stuff to dislike. It’s not really the character’s fault. Zelda from Ocarina of Time
Tumblr media
She’s Sheik, the coolest ever. I’m of the persuasion that the disguise was a literal transformation of her body with magic, and that she lived as physically male for many years. People on forums used to argue about this. Straight men insisting for days that Sheik had boobs under the outfit. Which is obviously dumb, their body types are completely different. So she can magically grow broad shoulders and dense musculature but not a dick? They didn’t want to be seen as gay for being attracted to Sheik, because they are weak little worms. What am I even talking about. This Zelda jumpstarts the plot by conspiring together with Link for a really ill-conceived plan that dooms Hyrule. None of it would ever have happened if her father had just taken her prophecy dream seriously. Kings of Hyrule are terrible screwups. When this Zelda tries to put everything right at the end, she ends up splitting the timeline in half, inspiring horrible nerds to argue even more incessantly. This is her greatest sin. Tetra from the Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass
Tumblr media
It’s really, really weird that her skin lightened up when she got Zeldafied. I’ve never met anyone who liked that particular choice. It goes back to normal once she takes off the dress, so what the hell does that mean. This Zelda design gets recycled a lot, which I think cheats me out of being able to look at different cute girls. There’s nothing wrong with this character at all, she is cool and my friend, but it sucks that she spends over half the game locked in a basement. Phantom Hourglass does her dirty. She gets petrified (tetrafied? no shut up) right at the start and spends almost the entire game as a statue. As though it wouldn’t have been more fun to boat around with your pirate friend. Inexcusable.  Zelda from Spirit Tracks
Tumblr media
Unlike other “childhood friends” Zeldas, this Zelda and Link meet for the first time in this game, and become friends over the length of it. When an evil demon plucks her soul out of her body, so an even worse demon can incarnate within her empty vessel, Link and the ghostly Zelda join forces to stop him. On the surface, this Zelda has a calm and noble demeanor, but beneath she’s a realistically flawed girl and a spitfire! The game calls a lot of attention to the damsel in distress trope, subverting it utterly. She fights alongside you from beginning to end, and her bond with Link is unbreakable by the time credits roll. Only drawback is, her human form is the same old Windwaker princess design. Boooooring
Zelda from Breath of the Wild
Tumblr media
Putting pants on a princess does not make her a feminist character. And that’s all of them! Anyway, with all the Zeldas tallied up, ok j/k j/k I’m sorry I have more to say about botw zelda She’s Ocarina of Time’s Zelda in reverse. Instead of having a dad that doesn’t believe in her abilities, she has a dad putting massive pressure on her to unlock those abilities. She doesn’t have them from birth because there wouldn’t be a plot otherwise. The plot vindicates the King’s view entirely, because the situation is completely hopeless without her sealing powers. Only his methods are ever called into question. Zelda’s character development is that of a child accepting that she must meet societies expectations of her at the cost of her ability to choose a path in life. The game frames her pursuit of scholarly ambitions as an understandable impulse of youth, but an ultimately selfish position. I do not like any of this, as should be abundantly clear, but it’s not really her fault as a character. Imagine if she never unlocked her sealing powers at all, and instead, figured out a way to lock Ganon in the Castle with the technology she was studying. A big stasis field, maybe, like the kind the Sheikah slate produces. She locks herself inside of it, sacrificing herself to activate the machine she built, trapped along with the monster until Link can break inside. Then they can take on Ganon together, like one of those wonderful boss fights where you fight alongside Zelda from some of the other games. Everything is functionally identical for the purpose of gameplay leading up to the confrontation at the end, but she actually uses a power she earns, proves her father wrong in the process, and ties everything up with a neat little parable about forging one’s own way in life. Instead, she gets slapped with superpowers the moment the writer thinks she’s suffered an arbitrary, prerequisite amount, and perfectly maintains the status quo. I think she deserved better than that! AND THATS ALL THE ZELDAS, WOO In retrospect, I honestly think I can say Spirit Tracks has the best Zelda from a “saturday morning cartoon” perspective, and Ocarina of Time has the best Zelda from a “dark fantasy story” perspective. I like Twilight Princess Zelda a lot, but I like Midna more, and it’s really her game more than Zelda’s.  My opinions are my own and should not be taken as values judgements of anyone who disagrees with me. There’s room for all of us at this Zelda banquet, so let’s not get angry at each other if I besmirched the name of your fav, okay? Okay.  If you made it this far, this is your reward: https://youtu.be/GXfM9lgzr0M?t=131

What’s Going On with the Ears in Hyrule?
Tumblr media
(Or: A Needlessly Comprehensive Deep-Dive into the Myst-EAR-ious Duality of Round-Eared Humans and Long-Eared Hylians, a Very S-EAR-ious Write-Up)
As some of you may remember from a few months back, I made an off-hand comment about my ideas surrounding the disparities between the different types of ears we see in Hyrule’s human citizens, and my desire to further expand on that at a later date.  No, that was not a joke, and yes, I am finally Doing the Dang Thing.  So!  Let’s get started.
Long-time fans of the series will know that Hylians are a race of humans in the world of The Legend of Zelda with long, elf-like ears.  Hylians most always dominate the land of Hyrule in nearly every installment in the series, with round-eared humans only making their first appearance in Link’s Awakening, a game that - spoiler alert - was all a dream in the first place.  And though plain old humans again appear in the lands of Holodrum and Labrynna in the follow-up Oracle games, it is very in keeping with the theme of this blog that their most notable appearance happens to be in Twilight Princess.
Though it is never remarked upon in-game, Link is the only Hylian in a village filled with humans, such as Ilia and Rusl, leading the player to assume that he was not Ordon-born.  Other notable examples include Ashei, who hails from the mountains, and even the inhabitants of (New) Kakariko (though only three in number) are all mere humans.  The Hylians of this game seem to be centralized around Castle Town, with notable members including Telma, Shad, and Auru of the Resistance, and naturally, Zelda herself.  Yet as I’ve already stated, the fact that there are two different sets of ears among the humans is never even a topic of conversation; it makes you wonder why the developers bothered to make the distinction at all, and indeed, plenty of fans have never even noticed that such a disparity exists. I certainly didn’t notice when I was ten years old, playing through Twilight Princess for the very first time - but we’ve come a long way since then, and I am delighted to finally be able to tell everyone why I think this disparity exists, and how it has bled into other aspects of the series.  Let’s back away from Twilight Princess for a moment; all good theories have a beginning, and this one is no different.  To understand where this all began, we must look thousands of years into the past, to Skyward Sword.  More specifically, this all started...
Tumblr media
...with this guy.
Yes, Beedle.  That Beedle.  But before we can even jump into how he relates to any of this, we must travel further back still, to the very opening cutscene of Skyward Sword.
Tumblr media
In this cutscene, we hear a very dumbed-down tale of how Demise invaded the surface world that was ruled over by the Goddess Hylia; to protect the sacred relic placed into her care by the Golden Goddesses, Hylia rends a piece of land from the earth and sends it skyward, leaving the Goddess Sword and the Triforce with it.  Together with the remaining peoples of the Surface, she seals Demise away, and millennia later the events of Skyward Sword transpire.  The entirety of this cutscene is not in and of itself very important, but I would like to draw everyone’s attention to one particular line uttered by the narrator during this sequence:
“To prevent this great power from falling into the hands of the evil swarming the lands… The goddess gathered the surviving humans on an outcropping of earth.”
It is worth noting here that - though the word “Hylian” itself only appears in reference to the shield which bears its name - Skyloft is comprised entirely of people with long ears.  Keeping these things in mind, let’s go back to Beedle.
Beedle is, by all intents and purposes, a fairly unremarkable character in Skyward Sword.  That is to say, outside of providing Link with goods throughout his adventure, he bears no significance on the plot in any capacity, having only a single sidequest that involves retrieving a pet beetle (snickers) of his, for which the player’s reward is a small sum of Gratitude Crystals.  But there is one, throwaway line of completely optional dialogue you can trigger towards the beginning of this sidequest, and it is upon this line that the entire basis for this theory has been built.  When meeting Beedle on his home island apart from Skyloft for the very first time, the player is given the option...
...to comment on his accent.
[after selecting “Your accent!”] “Hmmm? The mellifluous timbre of my voice sounds different to you?
...Perhaps a touch, I suppose... But pray, what does it matter, hmm?”
What’s important to understand about accents is how they come about to begin with: namely, slight differences in pronunciation and rhythm of speech evolve over time as the language (in this case, some form of ancient Hylian) spreads to different locations.  And of course, everyone who uses spoken language has an accent, but Link’s remarking upon Beedle’s is an indication that his pattern of speech is different from his own.  In most other games, this would be unextraordinary - but in the context of Skyward Sword, where humanity has been isolated to a (relatively speaking) small outcropping of earth in the sky, it becomes extremely noteworthy.  No one in Skyloft should have “an accent,” because theirs is a society and culture so small in scale that they should all have the same accent.  Beedle having an accent makes sense if, and only if...
...he’s not from Skyloft.
And if he’s not from Skyloft, the logical conclusion would be that he must be from the Surface.  In almost any other circumstance, this assertion would be smashed to smithereens by the sheer fact that getting to Skyloft without a Loftwing - companions blessed only to those who live in the sky - should be an unattainable feat. And yet, of all the people in Skyloft, Beedle is the only one who could have achieved such a thing...
Tumblr media
...because his shop - which conveniently doubles as his house - is an electricity-powered flying machine.  Within the context of the game, such a contraption seems almost nonsensical; if he were from Skyloft, why would he not just set up shop in a permanent location?  Even if he wanted to live on a smaller island by himself, the people of Skyloft could simply use their Loftwings to reach him (which they still need to do, anyway!).  Indeed, the existence of Beedle’s Shop makes far more sense...if it already existed by the time he arrived there.
Which brings us back to that introductory cutscene.  The narrator states that Hylia gathered up all of the surviving humans (notice the use of the word humans here) onto an outcropping of earth and sent them skyward, and on a surface level, this seems straight-forward enough - but with the revelation that Beedle is very likely from the Surface himself, it’s very obvious that this is nothing more than a bold-faced lie.  Some humans were left behind - they couldn’t all possibly have fit on such a small piece of land - and those humans were the ancestors of Beedle, in some way, shape, or form.  What became of those humans is another matter altogether (one I will address briefly), as the Surface we explore in Skyward Sword is perfectly devoid of human life, barring Impa.
Now, let’s bring it back home: remember how I said that all Skyloftians have long ears?  That was a bit of a white lie, though only if you count Beedle among that number.  In truth, Beedle’s ears are obscured by the bowl cut of his hair - but this is true for every game he appears in, and the general consensus is that they’re round.  This would make Beedle the only round-eared human in the entire game...and he, coincidentally, happens to be from the Surface.
Before I go any further, I’d like to establish a very base reasoning for the existence of long-eared qualities in the human races of Hyrule.  Hylians are far from the only ones to bear long ears, what with the trait also presenting themselves in the likes of the Sheikah and, by the era of Breath of the Wild, even the Gerudo - though it is exceptionally notable that in Ocarina of Time, the Gerudo have round ears, and Ganondorf is no exception...at least, at first.
Y’see, what’s especially notable about Ganondorf is that he is the same exact character is each title he appears in, and in The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, his ears are long.  This was actually something I only noticed quite recently, upon which I then fervently began scouring for information about his appearance in Ocarina of Time to try and make sense of it all, and the results are...very intriguing, to say the least.  Below is a comparison of Ganondorf pre-timeskip vs. post-timeskip from the original Nintendo 64 version of the game:
Tumblr media
As you can see, his model has changed in a number of ways, but... Well, I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this.
Amazingly, his ears got longer, which is...an interesting choice from a design perspective.  Of course, it leads one to wonder why - and far and above the most significant thing to happen to him in the seven years between these two appearances is his procuring of the Triforce of Power from the Sacred Realm, a relic of the old gods.  Evil or no, Ganondorf had forged a bond with a god unlike any had before him, and for some reason, this elongated his ears - so much so that by the time of Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker, they are indistinguishable from your typical Hylian’s.  It is notable, too, that the Sheikah (who have always had long ears) also bear a special connection to the gods, living to serve Hylia and, later, her reincarnation as the princess in the Royal Family of Hyrule.
“They say we Hylians have big ears in order to hear the voices of the gods.”
So now, keeping everything I’ve talked about here in mind, I think it appropriate to go over the series of events that likely transpired, beginning from Demise’s invasion of the surface world:
In a bid to keep the Triforce out of evil’s grasp, Hylia formulates a plan to send both it and the Goddess Sword out of harm’s way.  She selects - perhaps by chance, perhaps by choice - a not insignificant number of humans to live on this skyward isle, but naturally not all of them can make the cut.  These chosen humans would go on to found Skyloft, a land whose culture revolves heavily around the reverence of the very goddess who saved them and enabled them to live in prosperity (the existence of the Wing Ceremony, the Statue of the Goddess, etc.), while the humans who remained on the surface, left in a world scarred by war and ravaged by monsters, sought new lands, becoming the ancestors of people who would found Holodrum and Labrynna, to name a couple.  In their reverence of Hylia, the people of Skyloft would develop long ears, as even the Sheikah had - but the humans left on the surface world...would not.
That is to say, the Hylians we see in almost every major installment of the series are the direct descendants of the people of Skyloft, and round-eared humans are the descendants of the people Hylia left behind.
Of course, not all humans fled from their homeland - though we see none in-game, it’s important to remember that we also see no Sheikah aside from Impa, though we know they are great in number.  Beedle was, undoubtedly, one of these very few stragglers, and with stories of a land beyond the clouds on his mind - legends that have been passed down over countless generations - he sought to find this paradise by any means, through sheer blood, sweat, and tears (but mostly sweat, if that cycling is any indication) if necessary. In the end, he was successful, and he lives among the people of Skyloft fairly unassumingly - yet he also lives apart from them, on his own island because, at his core, he is not one of them, and never will be.  He doesn’t get all of this Hylia stuff, and frankly, he doesn’t care - so long as he can chill on his own little crop of land with a full belly, a full wallet, and his pet beetle, that’s really all that matters.
And speaking of Hylia - the reason they are called Hylians is because they are the descendants of those chosen by Hylia, even if the knowledge of Hylia’s existence has largely been lost to history by the events of Ocarina of Time and beyond.  (In a very similar vein, it is my belief that Lake Hylia also gets its name from her because the crater that would later become that very lake was formed...when she lifted a gargantuan outcropping of earth into the sky.)   Hylians largely dominate Hyrule for so much of its history because the people of Skyloft were the ones who founded it - yet by the era of Twilight Princess, we see that a great many of the humans who had moved onto different lands have slowly but surely made their way back towards the place they once called home.
But I would be remiss to neglect to go back to Breath of the Wild; this game is a much more peculiar case, taking place in an era many millennia after any game that came before it, where reverence for Hylia is once again commonplace - so much so that statues bearing her resemblance have been erected in every town, village, and city across the country.  Humans are once again practically nowhere to be seen (except, again, perhaps for Beedle), and even the Gerudo, who have now long intermingled with Hylians for the sake of having children, have inherited the trait (perhaps in part due to the fact that some of their own may worship Hylia, if the statue in Gerudo Town is any indication).  In every single instance, no matter where you turn, these long ears seem to be a direct correlation to the people’s connection to the gods of Hyrule - but rather than their ears being a predetermined factor in how strong this connection may be, it seems that their faith is what influences this trait to rise to the surface, over how ever many generations or centuries that just might take.  (Ganondorf Dragmire, who lives in a castle and inherited a relic of pure godly power, is an outlier and should not be counted.)  As Shad so eloquently states in Twilight Princess:
“Hyrule was made by the Hylians, who, as we all know, are the closest race to the gods.”
Tumblr media
And as long as we’re talking about Shad, I’d love to begin wrapping up this post by bringing things round to Twilight Princess once more - specifically the context in which Shad says the above quote, which is far and away one of the most peculiar instances of casual lore-dumping in the entire series.  The quote in its entirety from the North American version of the game reads thusly:
“At the moment I'm absolutely entranced by the sky beings known as the Oocca. Yes, according to legend, Hyrule was made by the Hylians [...] But also according to legend, long ago there was a race even closer to the gods, and some say these creatures made the Hylians. When they created the people of Hylia, they simultaneously created a new capital, a city that floated in the heavens.”
What Shad is saying here is extremely farfetched, particularly for those of us who are familiar with the Oocca.  But in truth, this was a minor mistranslation on Nintendo of America’s part; the original text from the Japanese version of the game clears actually reads much more like this, when translated correctly:
“The common opinion is that Hyrule was created by the Hylia people, the race closest to the gods, but...truth be told, there's also a theory saying that in ancient times, there was a race even closer to the gods than the Hylia people, and THEY created it [Hyrule]. And they, simultaneously with the birth of the Hylia people, created a new capital, a capital that floated in the heavens.”
So the Oocca - the bizarre, Cucco-like creatures who inhabit the City in the Sky - did not create the Hylians, but rather established the kingdom of Hyrule itself in the world that the goddesses created.  But even with this mistranslation squared away, that still sounds incredibly odd, especially taking the events of Skyward Sword into account; we know that the people of Skyloft are the ones who inevitably found Hyrule, because we see the beginnings of this happening at the end of the game.  Funnily enough, it seems that the very line that was mistranslated in the North American version of the game...was the result of mistranslation itself.
In-universe mistranslation, that is.  Millennia of history being told, written, lost, and found, translated again and again and again, until it barely resembles its original state.  What likely happened was that the Oocca, who live in the sky, were wrongly credited with the creation of Hyrule because the Hylian people who would go on the found Hyrule also came from the sky, as they were the people of Skyloft.  Shad’s claim that the Oocca were “a race even closer to the gods" than the Hylians may not be entirely unfounded, however, as it is incredibly likely like the City in the Sky we see in Twilight Princess is what remained of Skyloft after its human inhabitants abandoned it; the Loftwings that the people of Skyloft had for so long relied on would go on to evolve into more sentient beings, suspending the city above the clouds long after Hylia’s magic had worn off - and Loftwings were, as the people of Skyloft believed, beings bestowed upon them as a symbol of the goddess’s divine blessing.  In this sense, it is somewhat true that the City in the Sky and the Hylians were created at the same time; when the Skyloftians abandoned their home to live in a new land where they were not long after christened the Hylians, the skyward isle that they had left behind found a new purpose, and a new “city” was born.
Of course, maybe Shad was off his marbles (even if the Oocca are evolved Loftwings, there is still much about them and their connection to the Sheikah that remains shrouded in mystery), but the crux of this entire narrative is that the people of Hylia, the Hylians - at least, up until Breath of the Wild is concerned - were the descendants of the people of Skyloft, and Beedle’s eccentricities in the context of Skyward Sword are rather convincing pieces of evidence that this did not comprise all people of the formerly-known-as “Land of Hylia.”  It is therefore only natural that a conclusion could be drawn about where the distinction between the two peoples comes from.
But in the end, even if this can answer the question of why there are round-eared humans alongside long-eared ones, it does not answer the ultimate question of what this distinction means.  Why does a connection with and a faith in the gods elongate the ears of the people it touches?  The Zelda Encyclopedia states that “in the past, Hylians were able to wield magic of considerable might,” a trait that could possibly distinguish them from your typical human being - but the canon nature of the Encyclopedia is...shaky*, at best, and downright disrespectful at worst.  Link and Zelda are two Hylians we see wielding abnormal abilities, but their power can be explained with their respective pieces of the Triforce, not to mention the countless magic users in Hyrule and beyond who aren’t Hylian.  Even if there was a time when the Hylians had special abilities, those abilities have long since faded. They are no no taller, no smaller, live no longer than their round-eared counterparts; they are, in every aspect aside from the length of their ears, in every way identical.  To finish the quote by the unnamed Hylian man who speaks to a young Link in the Castle Town Market in Ocarina of Time:
“They say we Hylians have big ears in order to hear the voices of the gods...but I've never heard them!”
So...there you have it.  I must admit that it is entirely possible that the people of Skyloft had developed long ears before their ancestors had been sent to the heavens - after all, the Sealed Temple was, in millennia past, a temple erected in her honor.  Yet this would also make the story of Hylia gathering the “surviving humans” in order to save them all the more grim; could the gods be so callous as to save only those who respect their divine might? One cannot help but think of the Great Sea in The Wind Waker - for in a world populated by the descendants of those who were chosen by the gods to survive the coming floods, it is difficult not to notice that ears of the round variety are once again nowhere to be found.
And yet, when you get right down to it - though some Hylians seem to rely on their lineage as “the closest race to the gods” to maintain an image of self-importance - the difference between a long-eared Hylian and a round-eared human appears to be, ultimately...only that.  And unless we see our round-eared friends return in a potentially future title, and the difference remarked upon, that will likely be how things remain.
Until that time, I will continue to do my best to fill the gaps with which we have been left - even if, at the end of the day, I’ve written nothing more than a meaningless, nine-page word jumble...about ears.
EDIT (5/9/2020): It has been brought to my attention (courtesy of @heartenvy) that there is a mild inconsistency with the narrative that Beedle could be from the Surface: namely, the “unbreachable” Cloud Barrier, something Hylia herself created to divide Skyloft from the Surface and keep its inhabitants and the Triforce safe.  However, I would argue that the Cloud Barrier is not a physical barrier so much as it is a mystical one, meant to both keep its location secret (the barrier itself is completely invisible from the Surface) and to ensure the people of Skyloft remain complacent in their isolation (believing Skyloft is all there is, they remain there, and in so doing their long-forgotten secrets are kept safe). Zelda is pulled through it long before any proper portals are actually opened, and I would argue that the portals (that is, the pillars of light that appear when we place the corresponding tablets) are largely a gameplay mechanic meant to keep the story linear, as in a real setting Link would have simply ridden his Loftwing to and from the Surface and would have been able to fly anywhere he chose.  It’s possible the barrier acts to keep out evildoers, specifically (which would explain why Ghirahim had to summon a vortex to pull Zelda through it, where he could reach her), or, not unlike the Isla de Muerta in Pirates of the Caribbean, Skyloft could very well be “an island that cannot be found except by those who already know where it is” - which, to me, makes the narrative of Beedle finding his way there all the more entertaining (the dude must have been, like, super determined).  In any case, I stand by what I’ve stated before: that Beedle is from the Surface, as his accent and the peculiarities of his shop make too strong a case to ignore.

*The Zelda Encyclopedia states that Termina is a Dream World, despite Link’s Awakening having already done this and in a much more satisfying way.  I can’t take anything it says seriously.
(Special thanks to @ghiirahiims for the high-res screenshot of Beedle, and shoutout to @gaybellatrix for in no small part convincing me to finally sit down and write this all up.)

My (very speculative) Botw 2 Theory
I was watching NintendoBlackCrisis’ analysis of the BOTW 2 trailer and I noticed something. He points out that the Malice is leaving the mummified body and some of it is going upwards. This got me thinking, what if that body (which I believe to be Ganondorf) has been sealed away for a long time (I’m thinking probably >100,000 years) and that each incarnation of the Calamity Ganon has been a representation of the power that Ganondorf has been able to get out of the seal.
The first aspect of this theory is the Calamity Ganon. I went back and watched scenes from the original BOTW talking about 10,000 years ago and I noticed that Impa says that the Sheika were preparing for if Calamity Ganon attacks again, meaning that the Calamity has attacked Hyrule multiple times even before the Sheika. She specifically says “Calamity Ganon,” not Ganon or Ganondorf, and that it has “Endured over the ages.” She says it has been “turned back time and time again.” This implies that Calamity Ganon has attacked many times; more than just 2 or 3. Assuming that Calamity Ganon can come back every 10,000 years or so, the time span here is at least 70,000-100,000 years. Many other quotes from Impa in that scene imply many Calamity Ganon attacks.
Now onto my next point, I believe that the mummified figure in the trailer for BOTW 2 is Ganondorf. There isn’t much evidence for this, but it is still there. There are Gerudo emblems all over the mummy. Both on a tarp on the side of the platform and there are golden emblems near its head. The figure also has long red hair like the other incarnations of Ganondorf we have seen. The clearest piece of evidence for me is the head-amulet that we see in the close-up of the figure’s face. It has a gem in the middle and golden tendrils, like many of the other renditions of Ganondorf. Along with the visual evidence, King Rhoam mentions that the “demon king [was] born into this kingdom, but his transformation into malice created the horror you see now.” He knows that Ganondorf once was a human, and that somehow Calamity Ganon came from him.
Assuming this is Ganondorf, we move onto the next question. What is the sealing technology that we see? The glowing hand could be Sheika tech, but I don’t think it is. It is a very different color to the Sheika tech we see, and the design is different from everything from the first game. Sheika tech is very organic-looking. It is almost entirely made up of curves. The device surrounding the glowing hand in the trailer is almost entirely right angles. Also, if this is Sheika tech then wouldn’t Impa have mentioned Ganondorf being sealed by the Sheika? Impa said Calamity Ganon, not Ganondorf. This is why I think that Ganondorf was sealed long before even the Sheika sealing Calamity Ganon. While there is no concrete evidence, I think that the sealing of Ganondorf was done by a race with advanced technology similar to the Sheika, but in an entirely different time period.
I believe this pre-Sheika civilization made the seal when Ganondorf attacked long before the events of BOTW. Considering there have been many Calamity Ganon attacks before the events of the game, and it takes around 10,000 years for Calamity Ganon to reform, this event likely took place more than 100,000 years before the events of the BOTW.
Now onto what made me think of this theory in the first place. As pointed out by NintendoBlackCrisis, the Malice in the trailer is moving away from Ganondorf, and some of it is moving upwards through the middle of the sealing magic. I think that at some point the seal weakened enough for Ganondorf to let some of his power out of the seal. That power is Malice. Ganondorf used the Malice to give himself a physical form (Calamity Ganon) and he used that physical form to try and take over Hyrule. Once he took over Hyrule he would be able to free himself from the seal. Kass says in one of his songs that “Ganon lurked beneath the surface,” and that he was “strengthening his jaws.” I don’t think that there is any metaphor here. While the initial meaning was lost to the ages, I think this song is referring to Ganondorf being trapped underneath Hyrule and that he built his strength up to form a new incarnation of Calamity Ganon.
Basically what I am saying is that more than 100,000 years before the start of BOTW, an ancient civilization (not the Sheika) sealed away Ganondorf using advanced technology. Over time, the seal degraded until Ganondorf was able to get some of his power to escape in the form of Malice. Ganondorf used this malice to form Calamity Ganon, and every 10,000 years or so he would attack Hyrule because that was how long it took for him to build up the power. Nobody thought to attack Ganondorf’s body because nobody knew it existed. This explains some of the images we see in the trailer as well as the continuous reincarnations of the Calamity Ganon specifically. There hasn’t been a Ganon/Ganondorf that has reincarnated in the same way that Calamity Ganon does. There is always some difference in each other game, but Calamity Ganon has reincarnated multiple times.
Tldr: Ganondorf is sealed under Hyrule castle by a non-Sheika advanced race >100,000 years ago and each reincarnation of Calamity Ganon is him using whatever power he could release from the seal to try and free himself. Calamity Ganon reincarnates every 10,000 years or so because that is how long it takes for him to form Calamity Ganon.

A Tale of Two Rulers: Royal Baby Chapter Two
A/N: Here's one of the scenes that aren't included in the comic. The first part of this is pretty much based on a scene from Disney's The Lion King where Simba woke up Mufasa. It's so cute.
Disclaimer: A Tale of Two Rulers is @figmentforms original work. I'm simply re-writing this as fanfiction, nothing else.
*******************************************************************************************
The next morning came. Zelda awakens with Rinku climbing on their bed, trying to wake her and Ganondorf. Today is the day Rinku doesn't have her lessons. Zelda still has her eyes closed as she whispered to her husband, "Your daughter is awake."
Ganondorf's eyes are also still shut as he whispered back to Zelda, "Before sunrise, she's your daughter." Rinku pulled on Ganondorf's arm, trying to wake him up. "Dad, come on, wake up. We gotta go!" She pulled until she fell off the bed. The impact of the fall didn't wake them. Rinku got back on the bed and pushed Ganondorf's arm hard until he opened his eyes and looked at her sleepily. "You promised!" she pouted. "Okay, okay. I'm up, I'm up!" He said before Rinku cheered and went back to her bedroom to get ready for the day. He sat up with a big yawn.
Zelda opened her eyes and sat up as she yawned as well. She almost forgot how energetic Rinku gets in the mornings like this. She got up and looked at him, "Looks you better get used to it. She always does this every morning she doesn't have lessons."
"I can see that." Ganondorf rubbed his eyes before getting up to get dressed. Zelda also got dressed. She asked as she puts on her crown and earrings. "So, do you think we should tell Rinku about the baby or would you rather wait?"
"I already told her, but I asked her not to tell you yet which was why I passed out the flyers the day you found out you were pregnant. Not to mention, Rinku's very excited about it as well." Ganondorf answered.
"We still have a lot to do to get ready for the baby's arrival," Zelda said to him. "That's true," Ganondorf said in agreement. Then, Rinku came back with her pig, Zelda. Holding the fishing gear in her hands, she said, "Okay, Dad. I'm ready!"
Zelda said after seeing the gear, "So you two are going fishing again, huh?" Rinku looked at her mother and replied, "Yes, Mama. Dad said I did such a good job with my combat training, I get a whole day off that, too."
"Oh, that's good to hear, honey," Zelda said to Rinku, trying not to look too worried in case she somehow gets in injured during her training. Soon, the father and daughter headed to the lake to go fishing with the piglet tagging along. Zelda smiled at them before she walked back into the castle. She took the time to read the pregnancy book she was given the other day to prepare herself for when the baby is born.
Impa came by to see Zelda. "Zelda, I haven't seen you in a while. So, I hear you are expecting?" She was unsure about the news at first, but at the same time excited about having another adoptive grandchild since Zelda was pregnant with Rinku.
"Oh, hi there, Impa. It's so good to see you again." Zelda said as she closed her book. "Yes, I am pregnant. Although, I have to admit I'm a little nervous."
"Well, it's perfectly normal to feel this way. I may never have any children of my own, despite having raised you as my daughter, but I understand how nervous you were when you found out you were pregnant with Rinku. It is your first child with Ganondorf, after all." Impa sat next to her.
Zelda smiled at her adoptive mother. "That's true, still Rinku seems excited now, but I'm not sure she'll still be that way when the baby is born. After all, a baby needs lots of attention. I'd just hate to make her feel left out."
"I understand, Zelda. I know older siblings tend to be jealous of newborns. Maybe she'll understand the baby will need plenty of attention and all." Impa might be wrong, but she may have a feeling that Rinku wouldn't be jealous of the baby by the time it arrives. But, who knows?
"Let's hope so. Rinku can be a bit stubborn," said Zelda. "We'll soon see about that." Impa pulled Zelda in for a hug, happy for her. Zelda smiled as she hugged her back.
Impa pulled away and asked, "By the way, I noticed you were reading that book. I imagine you must have got it when you found out you were pregnant. How far have you gotten into it?"
"Oh, not very far. I just started reading, so it's only a few pages." Zelda replied. "Just curious," said Impa. "I have plenty of time to read through it, though. Right now, I'm thinking more about getting things ready for the baby." Zelda added.
"I see. I suppose it never hurts to be ready even though you're early in your pregnancy." Impa agreed. "Well, for one thing, I need to talk to Ganondorf about making a nursery since the baby is going to need a room next to ours," Zelda  said,
"I believe you. I imagine he'd like that idea. Speaking of which, where is he anyway? I haven't seen him today." Impa asked. "He went out to take Rinku fishing. She sure was excited about spending time with him." Zelda answered.
"I see. Apparently, they're getting along together quite nicely. Of course unlike the first time they met." Impa said, recalling the day Ganondorf came to Hyrule Castle a few days before the wedding.
"That's true. I'm just very glad for a change that Rinku has a father figure in her life." Zelda agreed.
"Indeed. I just hope he doesn't find out that she's the reincarnation of Link. You knew how much he despised him. I don't want to risk anyone to get killed. Not even her." Impa shared her concern for Zelda. "I wouldn't wish for it to destroy their relationship."
"Me neither. It took me a whole lot of effort to get this marriage to work, and I can't even imagine if Ganondorf ever finds out." Zelda said, also concerned for if Ganondorf might kill Rinku simply because he learned that she is Link, the hero he hated with a passion.
"I dare not think that, Zelda. Maybe sometime in the future, he must know the truth, even if it infuriates him. Just don't worry about that right now. You two have a little one on the way and the last thing the baby needs is a lot of stress. If you do feel you should tell him, just be careful not to say that directly to him. I cannot stop you for if you so choose, whether you tell him or wish to wait a bit longer." said Impa.
"I think you're right. I just need to give this more time for now." sighed Zelda as she rubs her belly a bit. "I'm glad you're doing something smart and thinking of what's best for your family," Impa said, proud of Zelda's decision.

So... I also noticed while going through my archive that I tend to reblog other people’s stuff and go on huge rants/rambles/analysis-fests, while still piggybacking on their stuff, instead of making a whole new post. So I figured I’d fix that while I’m at it. I meant to start this sooner but NaNoWriMo has me pretty preoccupied. And I was sleeping way too much for a while. BUT ANYWAY ENOUGH ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE. Here’s the big rant about Zelda and how much I care for her (even though hearing her speak irritates me):
Also, keep in mind that this is in regards to the end of BotW, so if you don’t want spoilers... Well, I tagged this as spoilers so yeah.
I hate that she only talked about Link and Ganon and the fate of Hyrule etc. Just once, I wanted to hear her say ……
…..Actually, I don’t know what I wanted to hear her say. I don’t know. In all honesty, I just wanted to hug her. Like. I just want to sit her down and hug her and be like NO girlfriend, let’s talk about YOU for a minute. I’m gonna make you some fruitcake and tea and we’re gonna just chill and you can cry it out as much as you need to or whatever, just focus on YOURSELF for a minute.
You’ve been locked in this situation of keeping the reincarnation of the demon king sealed away so he can’t hurt anyone for a hundred years. A HUNDRED YEARS. 100 YEARS. There’s no way that was easy, even WITH the power of the Goddess and the Light Force and the Triforce of Wisdom (um… Triforce? It looked like the whole thing when she killed him. Are we departing from the “each of these three people gets one” system? ANYWAY). I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like. How did your mind stay intact, honestly? I just.
You gave up everything. You wanted to have a fulfilled life, chasing your dreams, being a total fucking nerd and studying the things that fascinated you. You had goals. You had a life. And when the signs of the Calamity showed up you jumped to the task willingly, thinking “Oh yeah, my knowledge of ancient shit is gonna help us save the world, this is gonna be great” but then your dad forced you to leave that behind and go try to awaken the power of your bloodline. And you went. It was the RIGHT decision, because that power would be needed to take down Ganon, but that doesn’t make it FAIR. In ten seconds flat you went from happy kid studying things she loved for fun, to stressed-out kid beating herself up relentlessly because no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t feel the sacred power, couldn’t do the ONE THING that was expected of her, the one thing that could help her save the world. You took the weight of the world on your shoulders, literally, and even when your power finally awakened, you STILL felt like a failure because it was too little, too late. Your champions had all fallen, including your knight. You had to go take on the demon king. Alone. And a hundred years later when everything’s over you’re like “I’ve been watching over you all this time” like wtf get out of town are you serious right now? You didn’t even think about yourself, you just. I’m crying right now, y’all, for real. Oh my gosh. This woman.
Okay now that my face is dry…
I’m not even gonna BEGIN to get into how much I hate that Sacrifice at the Expense of the Self is always portrayed in shit as this great amazing noble thing because it’s BULLSHIT, it’s NOT noble, it’s fucking STUPID, and I get that in this case she had no choice BUT to sacrifice everything to save the world etc. because she was literally the only one, but PEOPLE WRITE SCENARIOS LIKE THAT ALL THE EFFING TIME. Especially with female characters. Like. You have a CHOICE. The people who wrote this story had a CHOICE, and they CHOSE to go this route. …Oh look, I said I wouldn’t go into it, and here I am, going into it.
Seriously though, I’m glad this was a Zelda who actually DID THINGS (there are more of them than people think), but I hate that her doing things happened at the expense of herself. Her life. Even before she lost her dad and saw her kingdom torn to pieces, she had to turn away from the things she loved and her very way of life as she knew it to chase some faerie tale she wasn’t even sure would work. Nothing is of her own agency, except that one final decision, once everyone else had fallen and her power was finally awakened, to walk back up to the castle and imprison Ganon by herself. And I mean. Hah. Right. “Decision”. Like she really had a choice in the matter. That moment is the most bittersweet. I just. UGH.
Zelda never really gets to shine without being diminished in some way. The Zeldas in the first three games (And ALBW) were just there to be rescued, the Zelda in Ocarina of Time got to help out a ton while in disguise (via cross-dressing! A++) but once she reveals her pink-dress-wearing, non-ninja self she’s reduced to yet another DiD. And an overly helpless one at that, for the sake of a last-minute race against the clock challenge. I mean, you can blast Ganon with a huge-ass beam of light, and lift up iron bars like it’s nothing, but you can’t dispel some flames and kill some basic monsters? I call bullshit. Oracles Zelda was only there for the linked game ending so the bad guys could try to sacrifice her to resurrect Ganon (weeee), and the Zeldas in the Four Swords trilogy were hardly there. WW and TP’s Zeldas are finally badass, though, the one in TP was forced to surrender her rule to a usurper king and sit by quietly - though she did get to do stuff later in the game. Tetra, on the other hand, was a badass pirate captain. Buuuuuut once her identity is revealed, again, she’s reduced to Princess Form, even having her clothes change magically from pirate garb to a pink dress (is that… did you put MAKEUP on her? With MAGIC? That’s not her skin tone! UGH.) for no reason whatsoever. What makes me happy is that in Phantom Hourglass, she’s gone back to her pirate threads and refuses to be called a princess. And rightly so! The world in which she was a child of the royal family is gone now, sealed beneath the ocean forever. She never knew that world. The Great Sea is where she’s really from. Just because you have a bloodline doesn’t mean anything, it doesn’t change who you are. Thank you for letting her be herself, Nintendo. YES I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS.
Spirit Tracks Zelda probly did the most out of them all, because she came along on the journey the whole way, albeit as a ghost most of the time (it’s a long story). And SS Zelda is another self-sacrifice person. Impa’s like “Lemme explain what happened forever ago and who you are and what you need to do and why” and she’s just like “Okay!” and does all the things. No second-guessing, no complaining, she just goes on this long journey and eventually seals herself away to save the world (please tell me this is not gonna become the trend) with nothing but faith that it’s gonna work out. I just.
YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD CHILD FOR SAVING THE WORLD AND DOING WHAT’S RIGHT BUT YOU ARE A PERSON TOO AND YOU MATTER AND YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS MATTER AND YOU DESERVE TO CARE ABOUT YOURSELF AND I LOVE YOU AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING ANYMORE IT’S LATE AND I NEED TO GO TO BED I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING BUT PLEASE CHILD JUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF OKAY?
Here, have some old tags, just because they add to the ranting:
Zelda, The Legend of Zelda, spoilers, ranting, rambling, thoughts, sacrifice, self-sacrifice, writing talk, female characters, tropes, Damsel in Distress, crying all over my damn keyboard, WHY CAN'T A FEMALE CHARACTER JUST SHINE WITHOUT BEING DIMINISHED OR DEGRADED IN SOME WAY???, NINTENDO YOU'RE BETTER THAN THIS, YOU DO WELL, YOU DO SOME REALLY GREAT THINGS, BUT YOU NEED TO WORK ON THIS SHIT OKAY?, I'M SERIOUS, I'M LOOKING AT YOU TOO SQUARE ENIX, KAIRI LITERALLY JUST EXISTS TO BE FOUGHT OVER SACRIFICED FOR OR TO JUST SIT THERE AND WAIT OR BE IMPRISONED ETC., IF I CAN'T PLAY AS KAIRI IN KINGDOM HEARTS THREE I'M GONNA FLIP ALL THE TABLES, YOU TOO DIGIMON, DON'T THINK I DON'T SEE YOU STILL FAILING IN THE FEMALE REPRESENTATION ARENA AFTER SEVEN FUCKING SEASONS, YOU HAVE HAD SO MUCH TIME, COME ON, APPLIMONSTERS IS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT BUT GIVE ME MORE FEMALE CHARACTERS, AND LET ERI-SAMA ACTUALLY PUNCH SOMEONE, FUCK, I'M TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT DOKA-PUNCHES AND SEEING NOTHING

Tumblr media
who the heck is my muse anyway?
Well, for those who never touched The Legend of Zelda in their lives, I’m sure it’s pretty dang confusing to see more than one design of both Zelda and Link, I’ll try my best to explain this! The series follows a very, very convoluted timeline filled with plotholes, as such the Links and Zeldas we see throughout different titles of the game are actually reincarnations (well Link is the only one reincarnating, Zelda reincarnates once... more on that later) who are destined to seal away whatever darkness may threaten the lands known as Hyrule.
Skyward Sword is the very beginning of that timeline, with Sky Zelda (this Zelda) being the first Zelda and she comes from a place outside of Hyrule, in fact high above the kingdom known as Skyloft. During her time, the kingdom of Hyrule was not yet established so the place below the clouds is known as The Surface to the Skyloftians. As such, unlike the other princesses we see throughout the series, she is not born a princess but is actually just your average, everyday girl who was studying to become a knight! Zelda is well-known for being charming and vivacious. She’s childhood friends with the sleepyheaded Link and the beloved daughter of the headmaster of the Knight Academy. Life was good and while she dreams of the lands below the islands, believing that there’s something down there instead of a barren wasteland like most seem to believe especially since she hears someone calling for her down there, she was content with spending her days with her best friend. Little did the two know that they both had a heavy destiny thrust upon them by the gods themselves.
Zelda’s story is one that is about awakening. And she wouldn’t have that awakening until one faithful day where she was ripped from the skies by the self-proclaimed demon lord Ghirahim, with his magic spell that broke through the cloud barrier surrounding Skyloft, she falls and wakes up unharmed on The Surface. After being rescued by an old woman who then informs her of her shared destiny with Link to bring Skyloft back to The Surface while defeating the great demon Demise once and for all, this kickstarts her awakening and she begins her journey in purifying her body at the sacred temples on The Surface and praying to the goddess Hylia to retrieve memories of a time long ago. Along the way, she meets with a Sheikah warrior named Impa who acts as an escort and later treasured friend.
In truth, Zelda is actually the goddess Hylia reborn as a mortal. In her past life, she knew the Gods of the Old, in fact they were the ones who had instructed Hylia to not only look after her people but to also look after the sacred power of the gods known as the Triforce. A golden artifact that can grant the wish of anyone. Gods can not use this power however mortals and even demons can, this would prompt for Demise to rise from the crack of the earth to obtain that power for selfish desires. As such, there was a great war on The Surface against the dark forces, her people were dying and the war greatly affected the lands. During her final battle against Demise, Hylia constructed a plan that would bring an end to his terror at the cost of her own death. The battle ended with her victory where she manages to seal away Demise while succumbing to her wounds from the battle, later she’d reincarnate as the spirit maiden Zelda. Once Zelda remembers her past, this only fuels her desire to end Demise once and for all with Link’s help.
And sure enough, despite the bumps and heartache along the way, Link defeats Demise. Yet there was a catch. Before Demise passed away he placed a curse on all three of them where his grudge will bound them to the neverending destiny of Link and Zelda fighting off the incarnation of Demise’s hatred. The story ends with Zelda staying on The Surface to watch over the Triforce while helping colonize the lands.
things you should know:
Zelda is not a princess. Nor does she become one after the events of the game. She remains as a guardian of sorts for the Triforce considering the fact that the Sacred Realm does not exist, therefore there’s no safe place to hide the Triforce someone has to look over it. Instead she’s a literal goddess, albeit human but she still has her divine powers despite it dwindling greatly compared to her form as Hylia.
I PLAY LINK AND ZELDA’S RELATIONSHIP AS STRICTLY PLATONIC WITH HINTS OF ROMANCE. It is possible for her to develop feelings for Link but to avoid stepping on any toes, she’s happy with being his friend.
Zelda does not have the Triforce of Wisdom. Considering the fact that the Triforce does not split, it’s whole in this era. While she can now use the power of it since she’s mortal she prefers not to honestly considering she still has her divine powers from Hylia, while weak when compared to her god form she’s far more powerful than the average human (speaking of humans are not yet known as Hylians during her time).
She can hear the voices of the gods. Very minutely though but she can hear them. Considering her connection with them and the lore behind the pointed ears, I’d like to think she’d have moments where she can hear soft whispers of them. Rarely do they talk to her though.
While Zelda is very capable of fighting, she cannot fight any of the beasts during her main verse where’s she’s traveling the Surface to find the temples to purify her body. Not only will they outnumber her, not only she is without a weapon, but the monsters let out this miasma when defeated and it’s possible for that miasma to affect her purification process. For the most part, you’ll see her sneak around monsters. If push comes to shove, she’ll use her harp as a bludging weapon...
what she’s been up to:
main verse: Which is during the events of Skyward Sword, as such she’s no longer in Skyloft nor does she have the full knowledge that she’s Hylia but Zelda is suspecting that there’s a connection there. She does not know how to wield her magic as it comes and goes in spurts. She’s seen throughout the Surface so she can be anywhere! Even in other timelines due to using the Gate of Time, we can just say that something screwed up causing for her to end up in another time period or even verse! LOZ series is pretty flexible in time travel.
where to find her:
Faron Woods:  The place where it all started. Here the Sealed Temple along with Skyview Temple is located, so she can be either wondering throughout the woods or either of those places. She’s currently alone and is sneaking away from monsters yet is also enjoying the sights of the Surface while being mindful of her mission.
Eldin Province: Neighboring Faron Woods and home to the infamous Death Mountain (known as Eldin Volcano). So what is she doing in a dangerous place? Why, praying at the Earth Temple of course! Here’s where she meets with a Sheikah warrior Impa, so chances of her showing up as an NPC in a thread is pretty high!
Lanayru Province: Once a lush, green place now became a desert yet far from barren, hidden underneath the sands is a time long lost where hints of the past can be uncovered. There are many caverns throughout the desert. It is around here where she travels to find something known as the Gate of Time. Impa will most def show up as an NPC since she’s traveling with Zelda during this time.
current plans:
Meet with Link and return Skyloft to the Surface while regaining all of her memories as Hylia.
desired interactions:
I would love for more wacky time shenanigans to happen where Zelda not only meets with LOZ muses from other timelines but also other muses from different universes all together since the LOZ community is pretty dang dead! This can work in post-game verse as well since she has more knowledge of timelines and the like!
Muses joining Zelda’s journey while she uncovers her past, it’d be fun to do dungeon threads with potential of action happening since Ghirahim is hunting down Zelda along with the monsters that work under him. Protect tiny goddess at all costs!
I want her to make more friends but enemies would be fun too!
Romance. I am a sucker for fluff and cuteness.
This is very random but I want Zelda to interact with a Kina or even Kass so that they can do a jam session together! Actually any musically talented muse doing a jam session with Zelda is all I could ever ask for.
things that bother me:
This doesn’t bother me too much but your muse insisting that she’s a princess despite her constant denial. I can understand this one considering her bloodline is royalty later on so it’s whatever.
Your muse magically knowing she’s Hylia. Yes, she has strong powers that can probably be sensed and yes she more than likely resembles her past life look but your muse shouldn’t make that connection easily on the spot unless she tells you herself and for the most part she keeps that knowledge away from outsiders. Insisting she’s just a humble spirit maiden should they feel something fishy with her.
YOUR MUSE BLAMING EVERYTHING EVER ON HER. This ties in with the one above, having your muse condemn Zelda for the choices she had made during her life spent as Hylia is a bad look dude. It’s hard to put into words and this happened long ago when the fandom was active but just... making Hylia/any Zelda out as the bad guy is just really annoying and just downplays her character.
tagged by: i pirated it ;v;
tagging: whomst ever! i recommend doing this since it’ll help a ton with those who still are unsure with your muse but feel too nervous to ask questions.
