Hmm....how hard can large scale mosaic possibly be? I feel like my plans for the room I'm working on could use something really shiny and impactful and maybe I want to make a fold-down cutting table and maybe I want to do it out of mosaic, even though that will be ungodly heavy.

It's a fun idea. I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

I haven't done mosaic since a one-off high school art class but I feel like the component skills are ones I already have, sooooo....

I have been keeping to a blue and gold celestial theme for both my guest room and my art workspaces, because if and when I move those spaces are likely to be combined. Cutting table, even though it would be for a different room, falls in the same vein, so I'm thinking something with a nice dark night sky and maybe some branches or leaves...

#if nothing else #I am likely to bleed less on my project than I did on the one in high school. #i sliced my arm open and bled profusely and never quite got all of it out #the third bedroom in my house is basically a junk room rn because the layout is awful #and i have been rotating that room in my head for weeks trying to see how it fits together in a functional way #it's going to still be storage but also my digital workspace/home for my modern tools #aka four ink printers #the laminator the 3d printer the laser engraver the cutting mats the paper storage #and also random crap like luggage and wrapping paper. #i think im settling on a library/bindery vibe #so loooots of built ins. #on a budget level i cannot afford to start this room for a while yet #and the same is also true on a time management scale #but for each project like this I tend to prefer to have everything fully realized in my head before i start #so im doing that now #mentally putting together lumber cut lists and figuring out if im going to have to buy a jigsaw

#a small thought. each of the custodians have WAY different frames that look like theyre meant to serve different purposes. ANNIE the most-- #--'human-like' with her 3 fingered hands + 'clothing'. FRANK with a built in printer+grabbers that look a bit more delicate-- #--than ROBBIES. ROBBIE a very utilitarian model seemingly meant to withstand heavier labor. like they were all made to fulfill certain-- #--roles on the ship TOGETHER and then SOMETHING happened that made the people in charge of logistics+shit think a single overworked-- #--miserable custodian would be more efficient/safe/cost effective than three together. ohhh my god !!!!!!!!!!

i think i busted my 3d printer hot end trying to replace a nozzle (tip: a wrench is better than a pair of pliers when you need to grip something in a way that it cannot be wiggled around!) so i got a replacement one, which arrived with a huge kink in the tubing that filament can't pass through, so i guess i'm just going to replace/upgrade the tubing too while my poor machine is out of commission because at this point i might as well

#full stop no explanation this is all you get #malevolent podcast #my! printer. for god knows how long now- has not been printing in color. even with Genuine HP Ink Cartridges installed #last week my dad got pissy he couldn't print smth in color. i poked my face a little further into the printer finally. saw a #Horrid little mass of Ink Gunk built up inside. dissected the printer. part-way through remembered commentary 4 was up on the patreon #ink ALL OVER my hand (because i forgot gloves were a thing) put on the commentary. absolute best thing for the mood honestly #put the printer back together (ink still didn't work) #took it apart AGAIN today and realized i still hadn't listened to 22 from patreon #(no ink on my hands this time) #somehow managed to not cry into the printer #things malevolent is good for: making me cry. making me fall asleep. mood for manual printer maintenance. #'they're almost. #been watching videos of a guy diy some things into smart devices via custom circuit board and wiring different relays #not only that he makes them wifi and even cloud accessible via connecting a different motherboards #shit is legit so cool #he made an automated power outlet that can turn itself off or on the grid via his phone or wifi #literally then he made door sensors using some magnets and some casings with his 3d printer to house them #which would be used as an indicator of when the door is closed or open #also by using raspberry pi he was also able to make it work via cloud remotely and through WiFi #the coding process was straight forward since the main board was compatible with the software he uses so he just copied paste the code #it was so simple it got me thinking my dumb ass can actually do this lol #i long to be computer engineer and make my own custom built technology 🤣
