Sometimes you need to quit your job, move across the country to live with your best friend and her family and then.... figure out your life.

Lets be honest I've been studying science and striving in my career for over 20 years. The only time took a break was one summer during my undergrad, but even then I worked pretty much everyday.

And the result:

Wake up, drive to work, sit in front of computer, balance office politics, crappy lunches, emails, pointless meetings, and paperwork.

and

when its finally the weekend, you have no energy to anything except laundry, cleaning, groceries, bills and maybe seeing a friend or two.

I'm suppose to do this for the next 40 years?

I'm supposed to be happy about this?

Grateful for a job that drains all sense of life from my bones?

First

I studied environmental science because it was interesting, creative and everywhere. Why am I stuck inside filling out reports? I should be outdoors hiking or collecting samples from a stream in Portugal.

Second

I simply love learning and trying new things even if I fail completely. Languages, Data visualization, Teaching, Business Management, etc.

More importantly I love sharing knowledge and information.

Third

Who made the crappy decision that people need to work from 8 to 5. Seriously, most work can be completed in 30 hours a week or less. The number of hours I sat at my desk pretending to have something to do... silly.

Life Updates: buildspace, an Idea, and some Concepts

Hey everyone, thanks for all the support on my prior posts having to do with machine learning! I know I didn't mention this really but recently I was accepted into S4 of buildspace which is like a "school" for creatives. I am doing Nights & Weekends but it has been a lot of fun since I started! We just did our first project which was creating the idea we will be working on throughout this "season" of buildspace. This was mine:

I know you all can tell I am really passionate about helping others with the research I do with machine learning / AI. I am wanting to make it into a nonprofit type business while I am in buildspace for s4.

I have some Proof of Concepts already which you can check out on my Kaggle here:

However, I am working on another project today that uses Logistic Regression and XGBoost models stacked together to predict heart failure mortality. I plan on doing a full walk through of the project to help show investors and buildspace what my goal is for my business.

What are your ideas on this? Do you think I should go for it? What are your dreams if you are a software engineer yourself? I want to hear from you all!

Throwback to NWS3:

For the first time in over 3yrs, I finally started making music again while in the nights & weekends cohort with buildspace. I love playing with the Launchpad iOS app — so I went on a livestream arranging beats. First time listen to the sample packs, so I didn't know how any of the songs would end up. Just creating on the fly!

I later made a video taking a look at Kaizen, a new music & social app found on product hunt -- giving artists a new way to share music with step versions, tracking the evolution from draft to master. Think soundcloud + GitHub's version control.

a couple songs I made with the launchpad app are now on kaizen to play with different versions over time! go check out both apps!

Playing Fallout 4 and having the realization that I'm incapable of playing it as anything other than a Solarpunk

Like I cannot get into a brotherhood play because they're fash and I cannot get into an institute play because they're fash so it's either railroad or Minutemen

And both of them feel very comfortable for me as an anarchist lol like yeah we are trying to make a difference and take care of everyone and also respect the environment and yadda yadda

Idk I know a lot of things that bother me about fallout 4's world building are like time and space constraints and shit and not a lack of creativity from the team (correct me if I'm wrong) but like the game's endings for those two factions feel like an approximation of political change made by ppl who don't really understand them.

It's cool like that's what fan fiction and stuff is for, to satisfy that need to play in the space. But I just wanna let my pals do whatever in peace that's the point! Why would we recreate systems that don't serve us?

Like no maybe we got lil shacks and it ain't much but it's pretty cool and everyone can get up to whatever they like?? Jeez let your need to dominate and subjugate leave your body bbs

Ruhka would love to help out growing techies! He has parts to tear apart and put back together and buildspace to spare! If nothing else he's a terrible enabler, and has a hard time saying no to someone wanting to learn. After all, someone has to give Garlond and his iron works a run for their money eventually, and sky pirate or not, Ruhka is keen to see others take a crack at cars, motorcycles, and airships. Or he's good for a free drink at least, lmao

Hello update update !!

While blogging and tagging buildinpublic I found buildspace and got obsessed with this whole competition. I think it's super cool that you can win money to continue building the thing you love to do.

What is buildspace?

Apparently it's a competition for builders to win 100k but last season they split it 4 ways(25k each). Am I cool with the fact that they last minute switched?

part of me thinks it's cool and gives people more chances to win

but the other part that is more of a planner and hates change thinks well you should've written that in the beginning and should've stuck with your og plan But watching the season finale on youtube made me think maybe I have a chance? Although most of the projects that won weren't apps and if it was a developer it was a game. So it appears to me that it's more supportive of being a creative than it is to support indie hackers.

But what I found really cool is a lot of members who were building apps were actually becoming profitable. And I guess if you became profitable thanks to buildspace than do you even really need the money?

So that's what I am excited for in this buildspace competition.

Finding out how to really market my app so maybe one day it can be something profitable and I can finally earn the badge of indie hacker.💃🏻 But I've only applied and haven't gotten accepted into the competition and I don't know if everyone get's accepted 😅 But yeah I need to figure out how people even gain an audience blah da blah da blah

UPDATES ON MY ACTUAL APP: made the tables in SQL made alterations to my script in python ( I was getting duplicates, I forgot to add a table) oh and i am still getting duplicates when a concert name has a hyphen and I am currently at a loss as to how to fix this minor bug but whatever I guess I will figure that out one day.

yeah so mostly backend data stuff

oh and made the artists page responsive

and working on the backend in C# to bring the data to the frontend which is how i found out I forgot to add the data to one table through my python app 😅😅 oops haha

OH AND BIGGEST UPDATE I GOT MYSELF A LIKKLE WANNABE HACKER LOOK AT WHAT I FOUND IN MY DYNAMODB AMONGST MY EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS FOR FANALARM.CA

BUT THEY DIDNT WIN THIS ROUND ADDED VALIDATION TO MY LIVE SITE AND IM HOPING THAT'S THE END OF THIS BATTLE

Buildspace: Business Plan

Over the weekend I am going to create a business plan for the nonprofit medical research organization I am creating during s4 of buildspace, just to prove I am serious and really want to do this. As you all know, I am incredibly passionate about helping potentially save lives and contributing to research in the medical field.

I hope by getting this plan on paper, I will solidify my idea and motivate myself even more in making my dream a reality.

if there's anything i learned throughout my creative process during NWS3, it's that i still kinda suck at execution & updating social media... but i did waaayy more during these 6 weeks that i've ever done with creating content online... and having a creative process while building in public. I'm pretty much past the self-sabotage and hiding in the shadows... i'm continuing to livestream on twitch, 2x a week, consistently for the past few months... uploading clips of the livestream on the youtube channel. i have a nice backlog of videos that i upload. i've also begun a couple new projects that i'll post here too. now that i'm all caught up! ...at least on tumblr. gonna add some posts of videos to check out in the meantime :) thx for joining me on this wild ride!
