jordan thinks this is normal. whats one more different flavor of ianite? he is home. his lady is here. all is well

kara though? she is seething. the abyss taking the form of her snakes (which function as familiars. to me) its not even trying to fool her, just taunting. her hat usually acting as a lil pocket space where her familiars chill. the abyss cutting off her access to that, claiming it for itself. popping in and out and swapping between looking like her different snakes

also theres no world where the abyss doesn't go jordan mode on the rescue squad. effective multitarget attack

in which nat tl;dr about her (potential) exile characters

Andy: In theory Andy would be great in this story. The themes of redemption, morality, forgiveness (which isnt entirely the same as redemption, imo), the stats/acknowledgement of who you were Before an event vs who you were After an event. All of these are recurring points/themes in Erkan’s backstory -- no matter what stage of his life I have played him in.

(Anger, vengence, justice, sin, etc. He is Very Catholic.) And Andy would fit a commander, I think, who was misguided -- who joined this mission whole-heartedly or maybe used it to gain a certain approval (either ambition or acceptance ... likely Marcelle’s). Most recent Andys joined the military to Prove Something (discipline, mostly; and also to feed certain vibes) and before that he was committed petty crime for the Family. And the og Andy was a terrorist (~”well-intentioned” extremist~) so. It tracks. 

The thing is, I am see-sawing on if the morality chains provided in The Exile are enough to pull him back. For the first few years of his life, Andy had a really idealistic childhood; he had great parents who loved him. They, his dad, gave him his faith. Then tragedy happened. Eventually he found his way to his uncle who always tried to pull Andy away from negative influences. Andy worked to be worthy of / pay back that love, that loyalty.

I don’t feel like there is anything like that for him in The Exile. Marcelle -- is Marcelle, roflmao. Emeline is a tenant for kindness, niceness but not goodness. (In my opinion) And even if she was the latter, she buckles too much. Esme would be the only one but she is too young to stand counterpart to Marcelle. And Sabir would come too late. 

Marcelle, in this exchange, would be the stand in for his uncle (and maybe even his parents because the commander doesnt remember their parents -- it would be different if they did ...). Thus Andy would be her dog, and Andy is such a loyal dog. I don’t know, my issue is - I guess - if I bring Andy to such a game would he still be Andy? 

I suppose he could hit a change later in life and more drastically than the other Andys. Like, I’ve always viewed Andy as Lawful Evil. Though a few friends peg him more as True Neutral -- and I can see that. Either way he’s not a good man. His pitch has always been the anti-antihero: Characters who are Good But Not Nice. Andy is Nice But Not Good. However, he has those morality chains. And it could be possible that Marcelle, being the source of ripping him from his community (from his beloved Mom, and his sister, and Sabir and Syfyn) could be the catalyst to him finding faith outside of the Plaithus, leaning on his better angels.

Or he could go ‘burn it all option’. IDK. 

That is true to Andy. IDK, IDK. I feel I’m just pussy-footing of letting go of any proper pillars in his life. But maybe it’ll come to me as if I give him a play through, that’s what ended up happening with Kendis.

I think the challenge with transferring characters that you’ve already played into games with set backgrounds -- particularly backgrounds that are so different from their original -- is finding the balance between letting breathe and change yet also keeping the change from being so drastic that you’re writing a completely different character ... but with the same name.

the abyss but what it looks like is based off of the hunters memories. it expands with each death in a vault, taking bits and pieces and building, creating something that should feel familiar to the hunters, something they should want to trust, something that is every so slightly Wrong

sparkly doesnt die in the abyss in the funky abyss au but he is in there fairly willingly and the abyss is able to poke around his head and go shopping for landscaping ideas. helps that he remembers the forest of the abyss fondly

Talked about the idea of markings on a Hunter to show interaction with the Gods in one of my funny little abyss fics so I decided to draw a leetol thing to see if I can figure out how some Wendarr themed markings might look

Armor and overall abe design by @ingapotejtoo except I ended up drawing them a little to the left. I was just gonna use his design as it is so I wouldn’t have to come up with one just for this silly little thing but then I had the thought that itd be funny if mans was getting ratatouilled by a frog which led to looking at frogs and the I saw the red-backed poison dart frog had a similar color palette and so

Context for this is based on a little headcanon about vaults the gods and the abyss. Just gonna paste the message I sent some of the vault friendos about this here:

Pete made a joke the other day about how dying in a vault gets your memories wiped and now I am Spinning. Thinking bout how the Abyss is outside the protection of the vault gods, about the implication that there's Something they protect the hunters from. Thinking bout memory loss on death being one of these things. Mayhaps the memories are tied to the ghosts. The gods recover ghosts from a vault before it falls to the Abyss and weave the memories of the vault back to the hunter. In those times between a hunter's death and the vault's destruction, the hunter can remember bits and pieces of what happened, but it's very distant and foggy. That connection between the hunter and their ghost is what makes the Abyss far more dangerous. The Abyss will eat at the ghosts, taking the memories of that vault. The deeper the death, the further from the gods’ reach the ghost is, the longer they are trapped there, the worse it is. There's a chance even that it eats at the hunter’s memory outside of just what happened in the vault. Sparkle off, its thursday, forget who you are. The vault gods think their hunters are hubristic and greedy fools for inviting the Abyss into the vaults but that’s not gonna stop them from damage control and trying to get the ghosts back as soon as they can.

gonna give her a silly lil staff for funsies, she deserves it

between being a witch and her connection with tenos, kara is very magically inclined. why should i not give her a funky lil staff for magic convenience? the gems help channel more powerful magic

speaking of powerful magic karas gonna play a huge role in abyss rescue mission. girlie has the omniscient on her side she is locating jordan whether he likes it or not. though the abyss is outside the vault gods protection, tenos still has the advantage of Knowing. acting on that is not their strong suit, but thats where everyone else comes in.

Low Light Likeness

Guys come closer, come see the horrors, I’m being so normal about the Abyss trust me

It is not the darkness that puts Jordan off from straying deep into the Abyssal Vault. It is the sense of familiarity, of something that feels almost like home, but with a sharp taste of Wrong. The Abyss is not the Void, but it feels so much like it. And it sings to him, tries to convince him that he is home, that he does not need to leave. There’s a part of him that starts to believe it.

AU where Jordan does not leave the Abyssal Vault after downing enough Kiwis to take him down to half a heart. He tells himself that he’s just waiting for Pete, they’ll return home together. The Abyss is loud through the haze of being on half a heart, of the overwhelming magic of being channeled by the Gods. He stops being able to distinguish the Abyss from his own thoughts, stops being able to see a difference between it pushing back against the Vault Gods’ magic and his own calling to Balance trying to settle back into normalcy. Pete arrives and the Captain is faced with the realization that he doesn’t feel particularly inclined to leave the Vault. So he doesn’t.

The Vault crumbles around him. Wendarr was already pushing their limit keeping the Vault together as long as they had. The Void does not kill the Captain and neither will the Abyss. Without dying, he will not respawn. He is out of the Vault Gods’ reach now. Not that it matters, he is home after all.

There is no natural regen in Vaults. Being in the Abyss, being outside the Gods’ protection, it is worse. Jordan has no way to regain the health he had sacrificed to Wendarr and Velara by eating the Kiwis. But he is not worried, maybe a bit tired, maybe on the verge of passing out at a moments notice, but he does not find this worrying. He is home. Maybe he is a little confused about the goopy versions of himself running around, but he is not concerned. He is home. He is safe. And he is not lonely.

hello i would like to know more about abyss vault hunters au

okay! so! this is gonna be all over the place i just have to be so silly about the abyss or i will explode

i've sorta ended up associating the abyss with the deep dark. something to do with vaults being a separate dimension, a biome labelled as void. something to do with void themed vaults having deep dark flavored mobs. something about the structure in ancient cities that almost looks like a portal

i think tenos has maybe always known about the threat of the abyss. tenos is the most associated with vault loot of the gods, their favor including increased item rarity/quantity. something about the appeal of luring the abyss into the vaults having been greater and better loot. tenos has had the deepest interaction with the abyss. i think i will also be reading in to their branch of s2 final vault including void liquid. it was only a matter of time before the abyss started sticking, before ichor came through the cracks in their defenses as the gods pushed their limits further and further

when the gods notice they announce it as a feature, they let the hunters take things into their own hands with how much they are willing to deal with the abyss. just the abyssal ichor being there wasn't too big an issue but the hunters fully inviting the abyss into their vaults had terrible results. they backtrack on that move instantly no abyss for anyone

there will be a rescue mission to get their guy back from the abyss however not before iskall is forced to seriously consider having to leave jordan there. what other choice is there when the vault gods don't have any real power over the abyss? he can't in good conscience send in any of his hunters into the abyss on a doomed mission. he has to prioritize the hunters who can still be saved and wutax needs help dealing with the abyss corrupting abe's spirit

ianite shows up about it cuz thats her specialest little guy they lost, she can't have that. theyre able to figure out a system so that theyre able to get some amount of god given light to traverse the abyss with, the rescue mission is back on

pete and hbomb immediately sign themselves up for rescue mission. they both kinda feel a bit responsible for what happened, h for not being there and pete for not being able to stop jordan. theyll unpack that eventually. kara and x33n also join in, thats their homie!!

i'm also debating having stress there too as a sort of like. balance? they've got tenos and wendarrs champions(kara and h), why not fully stabilize and get velara and idonas champion on the team? however not sure if thisll make the party too big and clunky to work with

this is also an au that has multiple spinoff aus in my head. one split where the gods do manage to forcefully drag jordan out of the abyssal vault but by then hes welcomed the abyss so some of it tags along for the ride and follows him out. another split where instead of ianite helping with the rescue she just joins her guy, their devotion goes both ways she trusts his judgement
