This piece was me returning to my dark art roots which was really fun and a nice change of pace from what I’ve been making lately. My main goal for this year both personally and creatively has been to be my authentic self and I feel like this is a testament to that.

Onto QY/TYK character stuff and the idea behind this piece under the cut.

So, I’ve always been curious about the six previous lifetimes and what might’ve happened to Zhou Zishu throughout them. Despite his choices and trajectory being the same, the end result would be much different without Wu Xi around. This is my interpretation of what might’ve happened if Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing still met but there was no saving Zhou Zishu’s life.

Wen Kexing, in his grief, decides to express his love and gratitude for Zhou Zishu in a very morbid but powerful way - an echo of his past. Feeding as an act of love is very important to me and this is that taken to its extreme. Taking something you care deeply for and holding it safe inside yourself, sheltering that piece of them with your own body. Nourishing someone you love with your own flesh. Cannibalism as an act of devotion and desperation. That sort of thing.

I’ve ruminated on this concept for ages but a shoutout to @bluemorningsoup for writing one of the most beautiful and poignant stories centering around this concept that has stuck with me ever since I first read it. I also had the pleasure of talking to @sirenofthegreenbanks about a lot of the characterization in TYK which really helped me refine my thoughts and give me an even greater appreciation for the story.

Fan Translations on Wattpad

Hullo lovelies!

It has been brought to our attention by one of our discord members that currently on wattpad, there is an entry for Tian Ya Ke that claims to be it’s own translation whilst stealing from other, pre-existing ones as well as fan art.

For further details and information on this matter, we highly encourage you to take a look at @bluemorningsoup‘s incredibly informative post on the situation at hand. You can find their post here.

I’d like to personally take this moment to remind the community that the hard work that translators put into making these works sharable across other languages is something to be incredibly thankful for. Often, translation projects are created out of love and dedication to the original source material, and fan translations are done for free. Such projects require many hours of work, as well as an understanding of the original language as well as one of the languge it is being transferred into, as well as a unique creative discretion on how best to share particular words, phrases or cultural differences that may not work as well outside of their native language. To see such efforts stolen and taken by others in such a way is not only disheartening, but incredibly disrespectful to those who took the time and effort to share these works in this way in the first place.

We at Immortal Wanderers would also like to remind you lovelies of the translation works we recommend to! Comfort foods: i love food and cooking, so this is difficult! kind of depends on my mood, but i suppose the easiest thing to say is greek-style yogurt with fresh berries and chia seeds or granola, which i eat nearly every day for breakfast and sometimes other meals if nothing else appeals.

This was inspired by a post on twitter ( https://twitter.com/bluemorningsoup/status/1664954097748037632 ) about modern AU Wen Kexing performing drag, and my brain insisted he should be Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

I was fairly obsessed with Who Framed Roger Rabbit as a youth, and was reminded that a childhood friend and I repeatedly watched the movie and performed Jessica Rabbit's routine together. Sometimes with or without balloons or pillows stuffed into our shirts.

This was done in Krita. I tried to leave indications of parts of his costume - edges of the corset under the dress, seams of the fake chest-form. Tried to do fancy lighting and was almost immediately overwhelmed with not knowing what I was doing. Adding a rim-light after the fact seems to have helped a bit. The true star is the sparkles stamp brush for the sequins.

5 things You Never Get Tired of Writing

Rules: List five things you never get tired of writing; it can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy. Then tag five people!

1. Grief, Loss, and Acceptance: idk... something about it. There is a profound love in grief, whether you are grieving a loved one, a bygone time, or yourself (your state, your pains, your stale self-hatred). It's about the looking back now, understanding and growing. Nothing is as it was; you are not who you were. But that's okay. You're exactly where you are meant to be.

2. Food As... : Food is culture, identity, comfort, love! The list is endless. Also I just love cooking in general and describing taste, smell, etc :) food is so powerful!

3. The Mundane: I think this one is a bit of a natural follow-up to the previous two haha I enjoy writing big plots but sometimes, especially for fanfic, I love focusing on the quiet parts of life. I feel like much of my work nestles in the Man vs. Self category so I tend to balance that out by writing about jack all external events. Because half the time, life marches on while you struggle. Go ahead, have that existential crisis while folding laundry, babes.

4. Vulnerability: this is just an overarching theme to say "I like writing bed sharing and sick fics and tearful confession scenes." lol

5. Hot?? Kinky Sex: yeah.

The text above is a retranslation, by me and @bluemorningsoup, of Jiuxiao's last words in Qi Ye.

Original quote :

我那日在王爷那梦见满山的桃花，还有师兄说带我一起浪迹江湖，觉得死了也满足了，虽然只是个梦……而我若死在这里，也算对得起蒋大人了，不怕下了黄泉没脸见小雪。

Now allow me a few words about this. I had the opportunity to discuss at length both with my 姐 and with Bichen about whether or not Jiuxiao had reached closure by the end of Qi Ye, and what were his feelings towards Zishu at that moment. I think that, taking these final words as a reference, he did, within the context of the battle, feel that high, that enlightening galvanisation that made him feel at peace. I would say that him referring to the peach blossoms dream isn't so much about clinging to a past, dream-like version of Zishu, rather than an acceptance of something still worth cherishing within him (Zishu) that he will not let go of. Jiuxiao remained himself, or became himself again -this heroic, lofty self- despite how crushing his last interactions with Zishu and Beiyuan were.

I think that, beyond the reality of Zishu's actions, it is Zishu showing signs of panic and anxiety that really marked and stuck with Jiuxiao. It is the moment Zishu steps down from being his shixiong to being a vulnerable human being; and if anything should have made it hard for Jiuxiao to reach closure, I would argue that it's precisely this. Something happened within Zishu, but what exactly? I think Jiuxiao is lucid enough to realise that it's neither guilt nor remorse-- and thus, I can picture him thinking about this and wanting more, wanting to know and understand, figure out what Zishu is thinking, his actual perspective rather than what he let show. I think that this glimpse of humanity is part of what allowed Jiuxiao to cling onto that dream, though. Once it became obvious that the chances of communicating about this again were running low, Jiuxiao would have eventually let go, at peace with this dream of his, because he felt deep down that it wasn't... fake. It was a dream worthy of bringing along in death.
