For Gentlemen Farmers
Bloomville, County Offaly is a particularly charming late 18th century gentleman farmer’s residence, of two storeys and five bays with a somewhat anachronistic Gibbsian door at its centre. The original block is just one room deep but a three-bay extension to the rear provides additional accommodation, as do single storey wings on either side: that to the east contains a drawing room with generous…

Yesterday was a historic severe weather day from the Eastern Plains to the Midwest. Unfortunately, it was also a deadly one with killer tornadoes in Indiana and Ohio.
From a science perspective, a lot about yesterday is going to be worth studying, but the fact that (as of this writing) we have had 98 reports of significant (giant) hail across multiple states in one day is very notable.
Here are some of the large hail reports across multiple states:
5.25” – 1 mile south of Ada, OK
4.5” – 1 mile south of Ada, OK
4” – 4 miles west of Sulphur Springs, AR
4” – Nortonville, IL
3” – Bloomville, OH
3” – 1 mile east of Livingston, IL
3” – 2 miles east of O’Fallon, MO
2.75” – 2 miles east of Bartonville, TX
2.75” – 2 miles southeast of Greentown, IN
2.75” – Gravette, AR
2” – 5 miles east of Glencoe, KY

The Curious Case of the Bookworm Bumblebees
Discover the enchanting tale of Max & Lily, who transformed from reluctant learners to brilliant minds, thanks to a touch of magic & parental love.
Once upon a time in the peaceful town of Bloomville, there lived two mischievous yet delightful children named Max and Lily. They were the best of friends, sharing many laughs and adventures together. However, there was one thing that set them apart from their peers—they simply did not enjoy studying. While other children enthusiastically immersed themselves in books and learning, Max and Lily…

Webcomics Focus: "Babe! Series"
Tumblr media
Babe! Series tells the story of two twenty-something women who live together.
Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog, and Wayback Machine. This was the twenty-third article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on January 5, 2022. Also, this post has been slightly changed from the original.
Babe! Series, by bisexual Filipino artist Darunni, is a fun slice-of-life girls' love story full of cuteness, blushing, and sweetness. It is partially based on the relationship between Darunni and her ex-girlfriend, Zoey, who work on the comic together.
Liz and Zoey live together as a romantic couple, with Liz as an illustrator, and Zoey as a serious gaymer. She also has a cat named Aiden.
Tumblr media
Babe! Series has a compelling storyline and characters, even through the issues are short. This is buttressed by colorful illustrations which pull you in. Throughout the comic, Liz calls Zoey "babe" rather than using her actual name, hence the name of the comic!
Zoey has her smooth pick up lines and is a cat-lover. I can't relate to the first part, but I'm a person who really loves cats, too. Some of my favorite episodes were the ones where the characters broke the fourth wall.
Although the series ran from March 2020 to February 2021, and will no longer be updated, it is still intriguing to read. One of the protagonists, Liz, is queer and Asian, while the other, Zoey, is pansexual and White. The comic was drawn, according to a Q&A, with a drawing monitor known as Huion Kamvas GT-191 V2, using software like Clip Studio Paint and SketchUp, and previously Medibang.
The webcomic, which has over 40 episodes, is written and illustrated by Darunni, with Zoey Medic as a co-writer. Darunni is also known for her webcomics She's a Keeper, No Coffee No Life, and Oh! My Genie. The latter two series are on extended hiatus, while the former series is ongoing and going into its second season. The characters for this webcomic were created in October 2019 and it was Darunni's idea to make it a slice-of-life comic.
Babe! Series is one of the many recent girls' love stories. This includes some series recommended by Darunni, like Bunny Problem, along with others such as Mage & Demon Queen, High Class Homos, Not So Shoujo Story, Princess of Bloomville, Bring Me Love, Vowrune, Ice Massacre, and The Pirate and the Princess, to name a few which are currently ongoing.
Tumblr media
Babe! Series is available to read on WebToon and the WebComics App.
You can find Darunni on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.

The Boy is Back (2016) by Meg Cabot
TBR Buster Note: I had this book on my shelf for a little over a year.
Summary (from Goodreads)
Sometimes to move forward, you have to go back… One post. That’s all it took to destroy the care free, glamorous life of pro golfer Reed Stewart. One tiny post on the Internet. Then again, it’s not like Reed’s been winning many tournaments lately, and his uncle isn’t the only one who says it’s because of the unfinished business he left behind back home in Bloomville, Indiana—namely Reed’s father, the Honorable Judge Richard P. Stewart, and the only girl Reed ever loved, Becky Flowers.  But Reed hasn’t spoken to either his father or Becky in over a decade. Until that post on the Internet. Suddenly, Reed’s family has become a national laughingstock, his publicist won’t stop calling, his siblings are begging for help, and Reed realizes he has no other choice: He’s got to go home to face his past . . . the Judge and the girl he left behind. Becky’s worked hard to build her successful senior relocation business, but she’s worked even harder to forget Reed Stewart ever existed—which hasn’t been easy, considering he’s their hometown’s golden boy, and all anyone ever talks about. It was fine while they were thousands of miles apart, but now he’s back in Bloomville. She has absolutely no intention of seeing him—until his family hires her to help save his parents. Now Reed and Becky can’t avoid one another…or the memories of that one fateful night. Can the quirky residents of Bloomville bring these two young people back together, or will Reed and Becky continue to allow their pasts to deny them the future they deserve?
Thoughts
I love Meg Cabot. I always have. I don’t think I’ve ever read one of her books that I didn’t like.
This book was no different. It was a little different than the other books in the Boys series but not in a bad way. Cabot has updated her traditional epistolary-esque format to include modern technology, and I think it worked.
It was also exactly what I needed. Light. Fluffy. Wonderful.
