Song Review: Tom Jones and the Blind Boys of Alabama - “Didn’t it Rain” (Live)
Listening to Tom Jones sing in 2024, it’s nearly impossible to believe dude is 83 years old.
But he is. And he is still totally capable of leading the Blind Boys of Alabama through “Didn’t it Rain,” as he did recently at Australia’s Bluesfest Byron Bay.
The performance is out on professional video and it finds the two veteran acts conjuring the spirit with a youthful vitality that matches the charismatic music from Jones’ band. As hot is it is, the meshed music makers sounded even better backstage during rehearsal with Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks looking on; it, too, was caught on video.

And honestly, when I started this site, I couldn’t have imagined three-quarters of the things I’ve done and experienced over JOVM’s history to ever happen.  I’ve covered roughly 1,100-1,200 shows in NYC, with a handful of shows in Chicago, Baltimore and Philadelphia. I’ve covered about a dozen or more festivals, including traveling…

Blind Boys of Alabama to Release Hanukkah Album
- Blind Boys Sing the Jews will be released Christmas Day
The Blind Boys of Alabama will release their first Hanukkah album this year.
The album, Blind Boys Sing the Jews, will be released Christmas Day, which, coincidentally, becomes the first night of Hanukkah at sunset.
Dave Grohl, whose online Hanukkah Sessions have illuminated recent festivals of light, is slated to produce.
“The stars just aligned,” said band leader Ricky McKinnie. “We’re a Christian band, but we love our Yiddish cousins.”
Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, KISS’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Marc Cohn and “Weird” Al Yankovic are among the guests slated to appear.
Hanukkah 2024 ends Jan. 2, 2025.

This is my man right here COUSIN PETE! So thankful! We met in 1994 and I could see his talent and drive and just real cool dudeness. He hit me about an opportunity he had auditioned for, touring with SNOW of all people in Japan, and I just so happened to be hanging with Snow's manager and industry legend Steve Salem at the time (may he rest in peace, he did a lot for me in my youth) and one thing led to another and he was off. And since has circled the globe many times playing with all sorts of legendary artists. He is the man on them keys! So thankful for real. Long Live COUSIN PETE!
