Hello all AO3 users, after coming across an extremely gory fic tagged with the G rating, I would like us all to review what exactly the Archive Rating levels are.

What Ratings aren't: an indication of how much sex is in a fic

What Ratings are: an indication of how likely the content in a fic may be disturbing to general readership, which includes and is not limited to the below

Sex and sexual themes or acts

Gore, injury, sickness, body fluids, and blood

Violence: physical, systemic (gendered, racism), and verbal

How graphic the depictions of the above and other themes are

Archive Warnings and Additional Tags do NOT make up for mis-tagging a Rating. Improperly rating a fic is against AO3's Terms of Service and is a reportable offense. You do of course have the option to choose not to rate a fic, but you are still properly rating it in that instance. Mis-rating a fic is damaging to the platform and AO3 readers.

AO3 patently refuses to fuck around with fic and author expression–except the Rating. Because mis-rating is both (a) using their platform improperly and (b) harmful to readers. Archive Warnings have similar TOS, btw.

Renji meanwhile was crouching down near Ichigo's head, and Grimmjow honestly had to stop himself from warning him off his sleeping bag and his hookup. "I... chi..." He grabbed the edges of the sleeping bag and yanked them up all at once, yelling the last syllable. "Go!" Grimmjow's hookup went rolling into the cliff, ejected right out. --- -arrancar harem crack- "... Does this actually renders hollows capable of perpetuating life," Aizen-sama asked slowly, softly, bringing everyone else to a stop. Szayel opened his mouth. Paused. Uh. Some of the possible biological changes might reactivate -- oh, and he had bypassed the gender binary requirements because depending on species the effect would be so very different -- "... Of course not, Aizen-sama. That would be ridiculous." --- -Daemon AU: Kon and Kai- "Come to think of it, life was so much better inside your body," Kon cries, anguished, his plush body draped across a wide capybara back. Behind him Ichigo and Rikuto are sprawled on their bed, rolling their eyes in tandem like it's a synchronized olympic event. "If I went peeping or stalking you were the one who'd get in trouble... I had nothing to worry about..." "That isn't even funny," Rikuto grumbles. "If you think it's convincing us to let you go outside, you're dreaming. You're a plush lion, Kon." Kon and Kai glare sullenly; then Kai snorts, wriggles Kon off their back, and then they're human-shaped. Ichigo-shaped, really. Hey, it's the form they know best. Kon crows his triumph, felt paws raised; Kai leans down to pick him up and they both grin fatuously. On the bed Ichigo has frozen in pure horror. "Oh my god. No." "Stop us!" they sing-song in unison. Rikuto is crouching on the bed like she wants to pounce and doesn't know who at. Her golden eyes are wide, too. "You're naked, you pervert!" "No," Kon corrects smugly from his perch on his daemon's arm. "No, you're naked, Ichigo, you pervert. Exhibitionist!" "You sicko freak," Kai continues, doing a little hips-wiggling dance as they move slowly toward the window. "You dick-waving pig!" Rikuto's eyes pingpong from Kai to Kon; she crouches, tail whipping. Kai flicks his hair to black by habit, then goes back to familiar, natural orange, and makes Ichigo's dumb face make an even dumber grin. Kon cackles. Why did they never do this before? It's brilliant.

Alright, kiddos, time for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a post by me all about my favorite sharks: Shark Rays!*

*Disclaimer: Shark Rays are not actually sharks! OR RAYS!

Haha, yep! They were named so for their appearance, but they are also known as Mud Skates or the Bowmouth Guitarfish. They have tails and dorsal fins like a shark, to help them hide from predators, and big, wide heads that look like rays. They can grow up to 8.9 feet long and weigh 298 lbs!

Their mouths are full of nubby, bony teeth perfect for crunching up crustaceans, which they find on the ocean bottom where they live.

They have the ability to change their coloration to camouflage into their surroundings. When they’re swimming over the sandy bottom, they take on a lighter brown or gray appearance. But when they encounter darker areas, their skin darkens to match.

Shark Ray pups are born with a much darker coloration, to hide in those darker areas. Shark Rays give live birth to two to nine pups a litter.

They are classified as Vulnerable due to fishing and habitat destruction. Fisheries prize them for their fins and meat, while their habitats are being destroyed through blast fishing, coral bleaching, and siltation. Luckily for them (and us!), they adapt well to aquarium life.

The Shark Rays I got to see in person were at the Newport Aquarium (@newportaquarium-blog ) in Newport, Kentucky. (The same aquarium where I got to touch a penguin! But that’s another post.)

Sweetpea was the first Shark Ray to join the family there, and the very first Shark Ray to be hosted in the Western Hemisphere! Now joined by Sunshine, Scooter, and Spike, the breeding program at the aquarium boasts the most Shark Rays on display in the Western Hemisphere.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit the Newport aquarium, I highly recommend the Shark Ray Feed show. The handlers reinforce target training with the rays and you get to see those bony, nubby teeth in action.

They are by far my favorite part of the aquarium and the reason I go back to visit. ^_^ <3
