dick has such pretty, creative ways of answering. "just peachy" and "why, don't I look okay?" and "if you want the answer to that, you owe me dinner first," and he does it all with a smile like first snow and starlight. they're convinced. it's the easiest way out, to be confident in the fact that dick is okay.

dick grayson is a constant surrounded by variables. too much hinges on his ability to be okay, and he's goddamn good at it, is what he is. it comes as reflexively as the jokes, as easy as his smile. he knows the line better than the back of his hand.

I'm okay, he thinks, through a mind full of cotton, through a tongue three sizes too big for his throat, through the way light explodes in his peripheral like shards of glass in the wake of a shattered window.

"are you afraid of being honest?" the face in the mirror asks, hushed.

"I don't think about what I'm afraid of," dick whispers back, and there's green and red and yellow flickering along the edges of his pale face.

when he flies through the air that night, he feels robin glide beneath him. his green pixie boots ping-pong between buildings eagerly. he keeps pace without skipping a beat. he's lovely and infuriating.

"don't you think it's weird that you're hallucinating me?" robin chirps, vibrant. he beams a wild, bright grin at dick. "you should have been honest, before. you're not okay, dickie."

"what do you know?" dick says back, not bitter. why is he hallucinating? "you should look where you're swinging."

"you should look where you're swinging," robin says with a laugh, and that's when dick realizes he's plummeting.

ink-black in his vision, shadow and silk. a hand strong against his shoulder, as sure as the ground beneath them.

"I," is all dick manages, and his voice rasps out of him and scrapes at his throat.

"try to relax, dick," bruce says, and there's a strange catch to his voice. "you're running a high fever."

ah. a lot suddenly makes sense. dick laughs. it comes out like the whine of a car leaking fluid. "oh."

"yeah. oh," bruce grunts, and his blurry features finally start to shift into something recognizable. something that makes sense. "are you okay?"

it doesn't occur to him to dissemble, all of a sudden.

"I'm," he croaks, and the clasp of bruce's hand around his shoulder tightens. "I'm not okay."

the world doesn't collapse when he says it. the sky doesn't fall. the ground doesn't crack open beneath him. there's still time, he supposes.

"you will be," bruce says quietly, and dick shivers. "you will be, dick."

(and so help him, dick believes him.)

This is my OC based on the 2015 Dreamworks movie ‘Home’, Dr. Maximilian, or Malware Max!

Back in the late 2000’s, Max was one of the Boov’s most brilliant and accomplished scientists, he was the one to find a source of clean, renewable energy in soap. The one downside was that he was just kind of a creepy weirdo with a god complex that every one was pretty scared of, especially smek. Max’s pet project was finding a way to push Boov anatomy to absolute perfection. So, inspired by a VHS tape he found of human ballé dancers (one of the Earth Objects the boov were studying at the time), he created a mech suit for himself to replace his own body, and by “replace” I mean fully replace! He managed to convert his consciousness into digital code as well as stuff most of his internal organs into the suit. When he first debuted his transformation in 2007, Smek was so horrified by it that he ordered Max to be shut down. And that’s how it’s been for 13 years until Oh, Tip, and Kyle were looking through an old storage unit and found the decrepit mech suit and powered it back on, not knowing that a conscious boov was lying dormant inside of it. Once reactivated, Max’s new goal was to get revenge on Smek and kill him as soon as possible and by any means necessary!

All this is for a graphic novel fanfic I’ve been working on all summer called “Home: File Corrupted”! I’ll post the first few pages on here and maybe Webtoon as soon as I can! This is a big project that’s gonna take a long while to fully complete and I hope you all enjoy it!

Woe betide any who might dare to think the kindest, warmest, best big sister in all of Macedon could fail to lift her little sister; there is only familiarity to be found in the way that she rises from the ground, swept away in a rush of affection her heart could never forget.

"Sister!" She laughs brightly, arms unquestioningly looped around the dragoon's neck. Fingers thread together as her hands sit on their favorite perch, and she cannot help it; she kicks her feet juuuust a little bit, giggling as they dangle midair. "You're just as strong as always, hee hee."

Indeed, if ever her weight was a burden, as she knows it has been, Minerva has never even hinted as much to her. No matter the ignominy that was suffered to keep Maria safe, the eldest daughter of Macedon only ever returns to her with love. And so, Maria loves her back, not only for this but for all the other beautiful, lovable pieces that make her sister who she is. Oh, yes, she has reasons aplenty, but who needs those? Minerva is Minerva; that is enough.

The artificer attempts, vainly, to draw the little cleric's attention back to their funny little box. There comes a sigh, and then a snap, and concurrently a-- a smek? Maria's lips land squarely on her sister's cheek as time freezes, forever, on one sliver of paper.

"Do you have all your stamps, Minerva?" Maria asks as she floats back down to earth. The fingers of one hand splay as she uses the other to point with beaming pride at the ring adorning her finger. MvM, just like the people she loves most. "Can we trade? Please? I saved a spot just for you!"

Sorry, Mr. Bartender. The tall guy at the end of the bar is a few drinks (that he definitely payed for!!!) deep and is making some pretty big googoo eyes.

This job's really not too bad. He's good with his hands, quick, efficient, and he knows how to dial up the charm to maybe get some fat tips at the end of someone's tab. It's definitely in a place more upscale than the joints he would frequent before, took some getting used to, but it worked out.

He's also got one particular red-coated, spikey-haired bastard that keeps showing up during his shifts and trying to get free booze off of him. Brings out those big puppy-dog eyes and everything. Wolfwood let him have a free drink. Once. And then told him he's gotta pay for everything else, but Vash still tried and would always be met with a flick to the forehead or bite to the nose and Wolfwood telling him to pay up.

Vash has been sitting there for a while now and Wolfwood's been considering closing his tab for him, because he's had a lot and he knows how Vash can get when he's drunk. He's watching him out of the corner of his eye while he works, occasionally wandering back over in lulls to flirt with talk to him.

They're just coming off a busy spell and Wolfwood had felt Vash's eyes trained on him the whole night. He turns his head to catch his gaze. It's wide-eyed and adoring and also very clearly ogling him. Maybe Wolfwood did roll his sleeves up and pop open one more button for him. So what if he did?

He slides right over, pulling a rag out of his pocket and using it to wipe up the counter in front of Vash as he leans in close.

"You had too much, Spikey," he says in a crooning voice, his hand coming up to tip Vash's chin up with his finger. His thumb presses to his bottom lip. "I ain't makin' ya anymore or else I'll haveta carry yer sorry ass home on my back."

A big, wet smek is planted on Vash's forehead, and then Wolfwood is drawing back. Moments later, he's sliding Vash a glass of water.

... Vash ends up miraculously getting another drink or three from him, anyway, and Wolfwood does have to carry him home on his back in the end.
