I'm mourning some of the old beta pokemon so bad Berunrun and Raitora would have been some of my absolute faves but Cruel and Inhumane Game Freak shot both of them in the back of the head before they could even walk

What do you think of the beta versions of the legendary beasts compared to the current ones?
I'm very glad they were changed. They're fun designs, but they don't have the same sense of intimidation/majesty the current ones do, which is a strong draw for them being legendary, you know?

Our final of the legendary beast trio gives us Suicune as today's Beta Pokemon of the Day!
Seemingly tying up its long mane and tail with beads, this variant seems to lack the flowing nature of its more well-known variant.

It seems my poor ask have been lost (thanks tumblr xD) so could you talk more about your ideas and headcanons about Gratia and Henriett please?
Oh dear, haha. Well, it happens 😅
But yes, I’d love to share some thoughts on the girls!
For Gratia 🪨
Tumblr media
🪨 Gratia was born in Hemwick to very impoverished parents. Her mother died in childbirth after an extremely difficult bout of labor, and since Gratia was her firstborn, no other children would follow. Gratia was forever an only child.
🪨 She was raised by her father and helped him run the family farm with his brother. They were accustomed to defending their land from beasts with crude weapons.
🪨 From a very young age, Gratia was abnormally tall and gangly, with strong arms and legs that made her seem quite bulky. Her father suspected her size was part of the reason her mother did not survive childbirth, but he held no grudge against her, and cherished her strength as an asset.
🪨 Gratia also was mentally stunted from childhood and did not speak until she was five years old. She could not read or fully articulate sentences properly for most of her life, but her father was patient and taught her as much as he could on how to communicate somewhat coherently.
🪨 She could speak full sentences as an adult, thanks to her father’s training, but her vocabulary was sorely limited and she often spoke in colloquial expressionisms that she had grown up hearing. Her slang and accent were also difficult for many to understand, and so they merely dubbed her as “simple.”
🪨 Gratia was very physically adept with raw, strength-based activities. She could not grasp the intricacies of how to load and properly aim a pistol, but she could hit, kick, and throw just fine. Simple weapons were her friends.
🪨 When she was young, other children were often afraid of her despite her light-hearted nature. Her size and deep voice were naturally frightening, which led to shunning by her peers. As such, Gratia was more isolated and lonely in her youth, finding better company with her father and uncle.
🪨 When she was a young adult, her family farm was overrun with rogue beasts and during one of these attacks, her father was killed and her uncle severely injured. Gratia survived by pummeling the raving beasts with rocks and even her fists. Her anger seemed to give her even more ferocity and strength than usual, and some said she split open a few beast skulls with her hands alone.
🪨 After this incident, Gehrman, who had peripherally known Gratia’s father, visited Hemwick to ensure that all beasts were cleared out. Along the way, he heard of what Gratia had done and sought to recruit her.
🪨 Gratia barely understood her own grief and frustration, but she did understand that Gehrman was giving her the chance to hunt more beasts to avenge her father, so she took him up on his offer.
🪨 After some time, Gratia joined the beta league of Gehrman’s early hunters under Byrgenwerth. Every bit of pay she received went to her uncle back in Hemwick, who was confined to his farmer’s life. Gratia visited him often, ensuring that he did not grow too lonely.
🪨 As a hunter, Gratia was slightly out of place once more, since she unintentionally intimidated her peers in the faction, and found it difficult to communicate with them. The only one that truly bonded with her immediately was Ludwig. The two tall, burly warriors became good friends over the years.
🪨 Ludwig became somewhat of Gratia’s translator and guide among the hunters. He himself had experience with a disabled brother as a child, and bore the kind patience necessary to help her adapt to her new surroundings.
🪨 Gratia was soon recognized as one of Gehrman’s most legendary hunters, able to fend off beasts with merely her fists and stone implements. People often shared stories about her in the common public. Gratia also made a friend in Lady Maria at the time.
🪨 The Byrgenwerth split and Fishing Hamlet was a turning point for Gratia, who did not fully understand what had transpired. However, her uncle passed away around the same time, and as Hemwick sank into ruinous despair, the huntress found herself falling into restless gloom that would last years.
🪨 Ludwig himself was propped up as a battle hero and legendary knight, but in secret, he confided in Gratia, admitting that he was rather hopeless and afraid. Gratia felt the same, and neither party knew where their lives were spiraling.
🪨 Gratia hunted beasts in Yharnam for a few years, but when Ludwig disappeared into the depths, she became afraid and set out to search for him. Simon, Ludwig’s would-be successor, met her along the way and the two became traveling companions.
🪨 Their journey ended in grief when Ludwig was discovered to have been transformed into a vile beast and Simon lost heart upon discovering the full truth of the Fishing Hamlet. When he told Gratia, she finally understood, and learning of Ludwig’s transformation confirmed that beasts had always been people.
🪨 In her frustration and sadness, Gratia withdrew into the darkness near where Ludwig had been and locked herself away to die. She had lost most of her companions by that point, and after years of melancholy, hopelessness, and uncertainty, she found that the truth of her lifelong hunt was too devastating. Little did she know, her disappearance sparked many tales of heroism and glory. People may have called her a simpleton, but there was no doubt that Gratia was loved by many, and the legend that she had died to free the fallen knight Ludwig was one that spread far.
For Henriett 🎩
Tumblr media
🎩 Henriett was one of the next generation children post-Byrgenwerth schism that was born around the time the Healing Church was coming out of its beta stage and being fully primed for overarching authority in Yharnam. Her parents were high-ranking Choir authorities, and her cousin was the future Vicar Amelia.
🎩 She grew up in luxury and comfort, often accompanying her parents to their research sessions or clerical ceremonies. She was fond of her eventful and seemingly “important” lifestyle, but she usually felt that something was missing. Something was wrong…and it was a point of contention between her and her parents.
🎩 Henriett was very intelligent and well-read. She had a special knack for analysis and showcased some pretty keen detective-like skills early on. Puzzles, riddles, and mysteries were her favorite challenges…which her parents also found incredibly valuable.
🎩 She was close friends with Amelia growing up, since they were both the same age and were raised in the same unusual environment. Amelia was very docile and meek, but she tagged along with Henriett because the latter was bold and adventurous.
🎩 Henriett was very suited to her high-class lifestyle in her youth. She was fond of elegant food, drink, recreation, and attire. Most people knew her to be very stylish and flamboyant in her tastes. However, she also had a roguish streak that tended to lead her desires beyond the wealthy academic world. She was fascinated with the church hunters and the old hunters of Byrgenwerth, particularly the famous lady-hunters; Maria and Gratia.
🎩 During her teen years, Henriett began to greatly idolize the elegance of Lady Maria and the fabled strength of Simple Gratia. Growing weary of her stuffy, scholarly life around her parents and their colleagues, she left to join up with the Church Hunters under Ludwig.
🎩 It took a few years for Henriett to fully adapt to her new world, but she quickly rose in the Church-hunter ranks because of her clever analytical skills in battle and her exquisite strength. She was still someone with a scholarly background after all, and she knew how to build up her physical form with certain blood and arcane techniques. She used the Kikrhammer and dedicated herself to the process in order to mimic her hero, Gratia.
🎩 Somewhere along the way, around the time of Ludwig’s downfall, Henriett befriended Simon. When the latter defected, he left a subtle invitation to Henriett—an offer to follow him and uncover the truth of the Healing Church.
🎩 Henriett very quietly left her position as a Church hunter and took her own path. She began to dress in the manner of the old hunters, still clinging to her idealizations of Maria and Gratia, but she had lost heart with the Church.
🎩 Simon met with her and revealed what he had uncovered, also informing Henriett of the circumstances that led to Maria’s death and Gratia’s disappearance. It was also around this time that Henriett’s parents perished during one of the Choir’s most dangerous experiments, and so needless to say, she was not exactly thrilled with the Healing Church anymore. In fact, she was angry and wanted to bring down the leaders of the establishment all together. The horrid discovery of certain Choir-led experimentation was a huge factor in her disillusionment.
🎩 When Yharnam began to fall apart and Simon vanished to take on his own journey, Henriett was left to her own devices. She planned to save Amelia from the Church’s grip, and aid Simon by seeking “justice” and answers from people that had ties to Ludwig and Laurence.
🎩 Along the way, Henriett befriended Eileen the Crow and the Gascoigne family, offering them extra aid whenever they needed it. She was a very kind and sturdy presence to have around, and the common hunters around Yharnam’s streets liked seeing the “fancy girl with the big hammer” strut about and help with the hunt while mysteriously muttering to herself about her next “riddle” to solve.
🎩 Henriett essentially became a “Sherlock” type hunter at that time, as she was inspired by Simon and wanted to further understand the history of the organization that had claimed the lives of her parents and heroes. In between hunts, she would sneak around the Cathedral Ward or old libraries to eavesdrop, research, and gather intel on anything Church-related. She made a bit of an enemy of Alfred along the way and the two shared a deadly rivalry for some time.
🎩 Eileen was very fond of Henriett’s crow-like scavenging and usually offered the girl whatever insight she could. Sadly, Henriett did not know that her ties to the old crow-hunter would be incredibly dangerous later on.
🎩 Amelia turned during the night of the Paleblood hunt, and Henriett was there to see her childhood friend and cousin off. To her agony, Henriett had not been able to convince Amelia to leave the Church behind and when the latter turned, she felt that is was her responsibility to put an end to that misery.
🎩 Shattered and mentally drained, Henriett returned to the streets only to find that Yharnam’s hunters were falling one by one. Some were lost to beasthood, blood-drunkenness, and some were being mysteriously murdered and mutilated. In a fit of panic and worry, Henriett began to investigate the cause of this carnage, and that’s when her detective skills led her into the dark world of the Bloody Crow. (This totally isn’t inspired by Jack the Ripper stuff wdym).
🎩 She got a tad too close to discovering Bloody Crow’s path—and this headcanon is based on that bit of cut content where we were to find her dead near the Cathedral—but she was marked as one of his targets and assassinated in the dark by the blade of a winged shadow. Little did she know, Eileen had been desperately chasing close behind to try to warn her in time, but it was too late. This was one of the final straws for Eileen to seriously hunt down the Bloody Crow.
🎩 Fortunately for Henriett, she was summoned to the Hunter’s Nightmare by the Good Hunter and this gave her a chance to take down Ludwig and Laurence. She also followed Simon’s trail and even found her way to Gratia’s fallen form in the Nightmare. It felt like Henriett had come full circle. She had helped to free Amelia and Ludwig, she had helped to take down Laurence, and she even found her great hero, giving her the chance to pay her respects.
🎩 The entire thing was a tragedy and Henriett was a just a witness, but in a sense, like Simon…she understood that the Good Hunter was the key to ending it all and in this knowledge she found peace. Her consciousness came to rest and she died in serenity.
(THANKS KATY FOR THE IDEAS ON HENRIETT BTW!!)

Pokemon Day Wish!
Tomorrow is Pokemon day and there will also be a Pokemon direct. I know I'm not alone when I say Game Freak needs to give us more LEGENDS.
Tumblr media
Imagine a Pokémon Legends Celebi!
Could be a sequel to Legends Arceus, taking place in "mainland Japan" (Jotho and Kanto) during the Meiji era (industrial revolution). The main character from legends Arceus would still be looking for a way to go back to their time period (if you had save data on your switch from Arceus, you could use the same character) and they heard somewhere that the mythical Pokemon Celebi has the power to travel though time, so they go looking for it.
It would be fun visiting the already familiar places of Jotho and Kanto during that time period, but unlike in Hisui, in "mainland Japan" everyone was already used to having pokemon as partners.
Tumblr media
the streets and roads would be filled with travelers and merchants with their partners, there would be more conventional battles, the towns would be more developed. Maybe no gyms yet but there could be a town elder that you had to defeat to show your worth, or an expert of some sort. The main character would have to go from town to town looking for clues to find Celebi and solving problems along the way. The game could be semi open like the original or totally open with level scaling and Kanto could either be accessible right from the start or would be the post game.
Imagine meeting the 3 legendary beasts that lost their lives in the burnt tower before they died!
Tumblr media
The starters could be Squirtle, Torchic and Turtwig just so they could use the scrapped beta designs for the last evolutions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Ok so maybe Torterra looks like ass but you know, they'd fix it.
The game could use the exact same graphics and engine and I wouldn't even complain! Just add PVP and breeding, let us have abilities again, basically what was missing from Arceus. Keep the crafting, give us more stuff to do. Give us an old black and white camera to take pictures of pokemon in the wild for sidequests and pokedex research. Let us camp with our mons like in sw/sh using a rudimentary tent and cooking pot for meals. Let us RIDE our own pokemon! (Like in the let’s go games) and not some "rental" ride pals BS.
But as I stated on my first Pokemon rant, the Switch can do better and Game Freak MUST do better... *tosses coin into wishing well*

Made some art for regional variants of the three legendary beasts based on their beta designs and various big dogs. Entei is partly inspired by a maned wolf, Raikou has traits from striped hyenas and Suicune has some influence from arctic wolves.

Fic Event Announcement!
Anonymity for @mcytblraufest has finally broken so I can announce my fic project and the beta and artist I'm going to be working with!
Tumblr media
Template by @gigaversed
I'm working with @vpofcookies as artist, and @smol5824 as beta on my team.
Title: Hearth and Home
Summary:
In legends of old, dark magic from another world ran rampant. But those times are long gone. No one ever expected a monster from the past to actually appear. What starts out as Phil taking his two sons to slay the boar that’s been stealing his village’s crops goes terribly wrong when they discover that what they thought was a boar is actually a piglin brute. Terrified by this legendary monster, Phil is determined to gather reinforcements and take the beast down for the safety of his family and village.
Or
Technoblade is lost and confused after he stepped through a portal in the nether and ended up in a different world entirely. With the portal broken behind him, he has to figure out how to communicate with the humans who seem determined to kill him. Maybe they can help him get home.
Stick around for more updates as I blog about writing this fic! I'm so excited for this concept and to work with this wonderful team!

Have you ever tried thinking about what a "canon"-esque team for Wes and Michael would be? I mean that, what feels like a team an official adaptation of these games would go for. In my opinion for instance, I think Michael would use the Zangoose snagged from Zook since its semi-plot relevant, as well as Eldes' Shadow Salamence for the one battle left after it. You could either make him pick an eeveelution (I'd suggest flareon or jolteon aesthetically) or going with the beta starters of Vaporeon and Jolteon. Wes' would entirely depend on if you think using the legendary beasts is fair game lmao
Ah nah. I know some people try to make a "canon" team for trainers. But "canon" and stories in Pokémon games don't really mix. All versions of a game are true and they happened in their own universes. Every possible way a game was played is real and has already been done before you've even thought about it.
I believe in the definite fact that Michael snagged and purified every shadow pokemon. I also believe that Michael traded his Togepi back to Hordel for his Elekid named Zaprong, but I know some may opt not to do that. So whether or not he actually gave Togepi back it really doesn't matter cause he has and hasn't at the same time.
Now, there is an exception to that rule for my personal bias. It's canon that Michael is a good kid with a big heart and loves his Pokemon and family very much. So that scenario where he releases his Eevee to see the eeveelution captain's other dialogue is completely unlike Michael. And I don't believe he would release any of his Pokemon ever. I refuse to believe that anything that would be uncharacterstic of Michael are canon and part of the multiverse in any way.
Hypothetically speaking, referring to the story of Pokemon Masters EX, if Hoopa were to drag a Pokemon Character out of the infinite universal contexts represented by how their game could be played, Hoopa would never drag Michael from the universe where he releases his Eevee, but he could take him from the universe where he kept the Togepi and not give it back to Hordel, since I remember Hordel being a somewhat okay with Michael keeping Togepi. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
I believe that every possible universe is canon, but there are limits because the constant is Michael is a good boi. The variable is how the player plays the game. The multiverse of a game can be determined by the infinite possibilities of play, but only the reasonable universes that don't betray Michael's character should be canon.
And same goes for Wes, obviously. Anyone who releases Espeon, Umbreon, or Plusle outright assassinates Wes's character.
And you know, by extension, I'd say that also goes for the main-series games too. If Pokemas Hoopa ever dragged a protag from their universe, it would have to be a universe where they kept their starter all the way to the end of their story, or at least up until the point they were warped to Pasio.
In certain media I've seen Michael officially matched with Flareon and Jolteon in two different universes. I've never played through the game with Flareon nor Vaporeon so my bias tells me it would be Jolteon (at least it matches Michal's jacket aesthetically, I agree Flareon suits him too.)
Tumblr media
Beyond that it's a toss up between all of the Shadow Pokemon and a few Pokespot Pokemon. At the end game he might opt to have tanky Shadow Pokemon like Snorlax. He might have an Aggron from evolving an Aron from the Cave Pokespot. He could have a Walrein from one of the Hexagon Bros's Shadow Spheal. He could have kept Teddiursa and evolved it into Ursuring. It's so hard to make a canon team without that bias you know?
As for Wes, as you know, he'd probably keep one of the Johto starters from either Bluno/Verde/Rosso and his two starter eeveelutions. Depending on which Johto starter, he'd keep Entei/Suicune/Raikou respectively. Hitmontop is a favorite. And last one, a Flygon, another favorite.
Scrolling back up to read your question, I see for an "official adaptation" I agree that Zangoose could be plot relevant. Though the one time you get to snag Zangoose is the last time you see Zook. Unless some liberties were taken with the game's story I can't see Zangoose becoming a main-stay for some rivalry with Zook. Miror B. is a better rival than Zook, and Lovrina along with other Cipher admins (excluding Ardos) have a character arc of starting out as enemies and accepting him as a friend by the end of the post-game so Shadow Pokemon belonging to them might be something to toy with for a rival thing. Zook is just a meat head masculine macho mohawk dukey-nukey wannabe who's more of a joke jerk character for how nothing goes his way after bumping into Jovi at Gateon Port. They'd have to do a bit more like how they developed Team Rocket (Jesse, James, Meowth) for the anime and how they're pretty much loved by everyone despite being the bad guys.
What I wouldn't give for an official anime adaptation, but alas all we have are obscure game walkthrough manga that few have seen and have (but I believe more should see and have)

I'd still be surprised if they did this and I still want this to happen (which makes my life emotionally difficult okay that feels over-exaggerated) but I'm wondering what the type combos of the Beast and Sword fusions would be. I think their primary types would be Dragon for the Beast fusion and Psychic for the Sword fusion. If we go with my idea that they are like Necrozma's fusions where they are counted as an alternate form of one of their component Pokémon with the base Pokémon being Walking Wake/Iron Leaves, I think it would be funny if their type combos went from Water/Dragon to Dragon/Water for Beast Fusion Walking Wake and from Grass/Psychic to Psychic/Grass for Sword Fusion Iron Leaves. Idk why they would do that because they might as well pull a Kyurem and just not bother changing the type combo (Kyurem's just beta Necrozma I swear)
If there was any chance of the Light and Sound types becoming things I would've said the Beast fusion is Dragon/Sound and the Sword fusion is Psychic/Light but "19th Tera type" basically confirms that won't happen. Also it would be weird to introduce a Light type with the Electric Tera hat being a lightbulb
Maybe they'd just be pure Dragon and pure Psychic
For reference I am rejecting any idea involving the Sword fusion being part Fighting purely because the Legendary Beasts don't have secondary types (though at least Suicune could've been part Ice). I'm also rejecting the idea of using Fire and Electric as their secondary types (as references to Sunny Day and Electric Terrain) because of Raikou/Raging Bolt and Entei/Dino Entei

The first of the legendary beast trio, Raikou, joins us as today's Beta Pokemon of the Day!
This variant is much darker in colour and lacks a lot of the ornamentation found on the more well-known Raikou.

TASK  ONE.
what's  your  mutant's  ability?
dragon  physiology.  users  possess  the  traits,  attributes,  characteristics  and/or  abilities  of  dragons;  a  powerful  and  legendary  creature,  typically  depicted  with  serpentine  or  reptilian  traits,  that  features  in  the  myths  of  many  cultures.  they  achieve  this  either  through  full  or  partial  transformation  into  dragons,  choosing  to  mimic  certain  aspects  of  draconic  beings,  or  simply  already  being  a  dragon  in  the  first  place.
what's  your  mutant's  classification  level?
beta.  beta-level  mutants  are  like  alphas,  but  with  a  catch.  at  first  glance,  they  look  human,  but  closer  inspection  reveals  a  strange  trait,  like  a  non-human  eye  color.  a  beta  mutant  can  also  be  someone  who  can’t  make  skin-to-skin  contact  due  to  their  power.
how  old  were  they  when  they  first  discovered  their  abilities?  how  did  it  happen?
being  born  a  little  weird  looking  was  definitely  a  clue,  but  a  majority  of  antares’  mutation  stayed  dormant  until  his  tweens.  he  ran  fled  from  foster-care  a  lot  and  during  one  of  his  disappearing  acts  he  was  struck  by  a  vehicle.  one  moment  he  was  kid-shaped  and  skidding  across  pavement,  the  next  he  was  in  the  sky.
so,  what  can  your  mutant  do  with  their  abilities?
antares  can  swap  between  two  forms.  the  first  is  ostensibly  human,  save  reptilian  gold  eyes,  the  hint  of  scales  beneath  his  skin  and  slightly  pointed  ears.  the  second  is  cataclysmic,  a  massive  wyvernic  dragon  clad  with  a  thick  hide,  sharp  claws  and  firebreath.
the  change  between  man  and  dragon  is  excruciating  but  brief;  the  change  between  dragon  and  man  is  more  drawn  out,  and  leaves  behind  the  skeletal  remains  of  the  beast.
in  human  form,  antares  heals  moderately  faster  than  the  average  human.  his  blood  runs  extremely  hot  and  as  such  his  body  temperature  is  a  lot  higher  than  average  too.  he  can  breathe  a  scalding  smoke,  but  does  not  have  access  to  the  anatomy  that  would  allow  him  to  ignite  fire  in  his  throat.  he  can  control  fire  a  little  though.
in  dragon  form  the  thick  carapace  of  scales  deters  most  damage  and  he  is  extremely  resistant  to  fire.  healing  from  wounds  that  pierce  through  dragonhide  is  very  difficult  and  often  results  in  a  shedding  of  the  dragon  form.  he  can  fly  in  this  form,  and  breathe  fire.
…and  what  can't  they  do  (at  least,  not  yet)?
there  is  no  half  transformation.  he  cannot  bring  forth  claws  or  wings  while  human.  in  dragon  form  he  cannot  speak.
what's  one  thing  they  hope  to  learn  or  are  currently  trying  to  learn  with  their  abilities?
to  recoup  faster  in  the  aftermath  of  a  transformation.  the  change  is  the  worst  aspect  of  his  mutation  as  is  to  be  expected.
what  is  the  most  powerful  thing  your  mutant  can  do  with  their  abilities?  do  you  think  they  would  actually  do  it?
anything  a  massive  flighted  lizard  could  do  is  most  likely  destructive.  i  think  he  could  destroy  most  buildings  in  new  york  on  an  average  low  altitude  flight  if  he  was  so  inclined.  he’s  not,  though.  he  just  wants  to  make  shitty  music  and  bask  on  a  rock  for  the  most  part.
what  are  your  mutant's  weaknesses?
prolonged  exposure  to  cold.  he  loves  winter  as  long  as  it’s  on  the  other  side  of  the  glass.  he’s  hungry  all  the  time,  in  either  form  his  metabolism  is  exceedingly  high  and  he  must  eat  a  lot  to  stay  alive.  in  the  midst  of  a  transformation  either  way  he  is  extremely  vulnerable.
do  they  use  their  abilities  in  their  day-to-day  life?  in  what  ways?
the  practical  applications  of  a  dragon  in  day  to  day  life  are  minimal  but  i  feel  he  would  be  good  at  making  rotisserie  chicken  if  the  opportunity  were  to  arise.
as  a  mutant,  do  they  have  any  goals?  dreams?
as  a  mutant?  not  particularly,  besides  equal  rights.
how  do  they  feel  about  the  last  30+  years  of  mutant  history?  notably,  the  presidential  address  of  1983  and  the  essex  house?
he’s  an  anti-authority  punk  who  makes  music  about  killing  the  president.  take  that  however  you  please.
