She watched as Anderson bled out on the floor. She watched as her own blood escaped in waves. Her eyes hung heavy with an exhaustion that only death could relieve.
She limped over to the dying man despite the pain each step caused. She didn't want to be alone. She didn't want him to be alone, so she pushed forward and finally dropped next to him.
"Commander," his voice cut through the silence as they stared at the raging battle just outside the giant window.
"We did it." The tangy taste of blood dripped down her throat. She noticed her voice was barely a whisper.
"Yes. Yes, we did." He agreed, his voice wavered. "Quite the view."
Shepard felt a smile tug on her cut-up face, "Best seats in the house," a statement she meant. The Earth looked beautiful in the backdrop of the dark void and death. Bright greens and deep blues swirled about the planet.
"God...It feels like I haven't sat down for years," Anderson coughs, pulling a wince from Shepard. She felt the end nearing for the both of them, the feeling setting deep in her stomach.
"I think you earned a rest." Shepard nodded in agreement with the war-torn man. Her mind wondered to memories of Thane, his cool skin, full lips, and his final breaths. She prayed to his gods that he didn't feel the same when he passed and that they would let her join him.
"Ever wonder how things would be different, how our lives would be different if this... haven't happened?" He mused to the dying woman. Her smile faded.
"Sure." She answered, her thoughts came to Kaidan, maybe they would have been happily married. It dawned on her that she wouldn't have met Thane. The idea was pushed away. Perhaps her and the drell were meant to meet and would have. Shepard was more content in this thought. It eased her aching, mangled body. She pictured the farm in New Mexico that they spoke about getting after the Reaper war when she visited the hospital. She willed her mind to place herself in the dry summer heat of that farm. Watching Thane's beautiful emerald scales shine in the sun. Imagining his deep black eyes steady with ease as he enjoy the arid scenes of scorpions hunting and birds claiming their place in a clear blue sky.
"I never had a family, Shepard. Never had children." Anderson's comment made her pause in her dreaming. The stale cold air of the lifeless room crept in place of her imagination. In Shepard's final moments, she forgot about her own family. The one lost years ago to slavers, to the darkness that the galaxy doled out to those unlucky enough. She glanced over at Anderson. When she thought of the word "Dad", he stood where her real father should have. She couldn't even remember what that man looked like. All she saw was Anderson.
"There will be time enough for that now," She pushed herself to say. Another sibling would be nice, one that could grow up being best friends with Wrex's kids. His weak laugh brought her back to the wet, hard ground they both were sitting on. Their blood stained the white tiles, pooling like water under them.
"I..." he struggled to get his thoughts out." I think that ship has sailed," he paused. " What about you? Ever think of settling down?"
The question hit her like a ton of bricks, made her heart and body ache more than the physical pain did.
"Can drell and humans have children together?" Her question slipped out.
Anderson slides his hand over hers, his grip weak. "You have a habit of making the impossible work." She looked down, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Yeah. I like that sound of that." She relented. The conviction in his voice made her mind hopeful enough to conjure what their drell/human children would look like on their farm. Beautiful green scales, on a human face with hopeful green eyes staring up at her. Would they have hair? She chuckled to herself. Maybe they would have her pale human skin and his endless black eyes.
She thought of Kolyat, they would look like him she decided. He would be an older brother to these siblings, more motivation to stay on the right path, she assured herself.
Shepard let the dream continue, guiding her to new ideas. She thought of her team, her new family, and how they would have their own children. Jane would throw parties where they all watch the toddlers and young kids of different species run around, playing, and laughing in the earthly sun.
Kasumi and James would rope the kids into troublesome pranks, and Mordin would entertain the children with bizarre science experiments made to teach them about the wonders of science.
The children, on their own, would explore the pokey land around them.
Liara's child would lead the charge on artifact hunting. Having Wrex's dozens of children and even Grunt dig for those ancient secrets in the hard desert ground.
Kaidan and Ashley's kids would probably have books, explaining to the others what to look for.
Garrus and Tali's child chasing off intruding bugs and lizards, with Jack teaching them to use their biotics.
Shepard and Thane's own children would run supplies to keep the operation running smoothly under Miranda's careful guidance.
Dr. Chakwas patching up any scraped knees in between her shared sips of brandy with Addams.
Shepard's mind raced, thinking about Traynor and how she would be bragging about her white picket fence house to Steve, Gabby, and Donnelly.
Zaeed teaching Jacob's older children how to shoot.
And how the sun would finally set, shining brilliant hues of purples, reds, and oranges across the dazzling desert sands. They all would watch it fade into the horizon and make room for the millions of milkyway stars to dance above the happy group.
Samara and Javik would take turns to enthrall the children and adults a like with their dozens of stories around a campfire that fought off the chilly night air.
Shepard could smell the roasting marshmallows, the sound of children ooing and awing, some snoring from a long day of fun. See Anderson napping with a small drell child curled into his lap.
She even imagined Joker and EDI building an AI child and the shit storm it would cause with the council.
Then she thought the thousands of children she sent to death in the Batarian system. How they will never have playtime with friends, how she stole naptimes from grandparents. Her mind turned to men and women of Akuze. How she couldn't save them, and the anger their families felt towards her lone survival. Her guilt wormed deeper, her coldness and ruthless attitude, the inability to live in the moment. "I don't think I'd be much good at it, though. I'm a soldier, like you, Anderson." The man squeezed her hand tightly as if to keep her from running away, or maybe to convince that he knew she had goodness.
"Sure, you would. I think you would make a great mom." He asserted.
"Thanks." She sighed, unsure if she believed him.
"Think of how proud they would be, telling everyone their mom is Commander Shepard." He pushed, trying to remove her doubts.
"I don't know about that." She coughed, trying to alleviate the painful burning pit in her chest. Her eyes closed as she tried to focus on breathing. "Not everything I've done is something to be proud of." She admitted but couldn't stop the proud feeling that invaded her heart. Knowing that her own father figure believed in her.
Anderson's grip release its tight hold. Looking over, she noticed he was nodding off, too. "Anderson? Stay with me." Tears sprung from her eyes as she held on to his hand, hoping it would keep him from leaving her alone. "We're almost through this." Her voice cracked, echoing off the walls of the bare room.
"Come here." He forced out, "You did good, my child. You did good." He huffed, letting his body slump over, "I'm proud of you." His final words barely passed through his lips, as his body forced him to finally sleep.
"Thank you, sir..." she blinked the tears from her eyes, "Dad?" She tugged his lifeless hand, torn between two wishes. One wish was that he didn't actually go, and the other wish was that the hero was allowed to rest.
A long awaited rest, Shepard felt would take her too at any moment. She looked down, seeing how caked in blood she really was. I don't think anyone has gotten to cheat death as many times I have, she smiled at her own observations, closing her eyes again. Her heart grew heavy with loss and loneliness.
Maybe it would be okay for her to pass now, too. Her ears roared with the sound of waves washing over her, smell of salt water in her nose. The sea was calling her name, as she found each breath harder and harder to suck in.
"Shepard? Commander?" Hackett's desperate voice ate through her haze. She sighed, willing her mind and soul to stay, even if she felt her pulse weaken.
"I...uh... what do you need me to do?" She choked out the fumbled words as she pushed herself up. The pain she expected was faded, Hackett's words felt so far away that she couldn't even make out what he was saying. She just stumbled and crawled to the console. Pressing whatever buttons, just hoping it would be enough.
"Siha, stay here for a little longer," Thane's voice whispered into her, as clear and soft as a summer's gentle breeze. "The sea will wait for you. You'll be here soon. Just fight a little longer, Jane." His warm encouragement breathed life into her. Shepard felt his hands help her lift the heavy broken body that her soul fought to stay in. Shepard looked around, her eyes setting on a VI child that was staring at her...

Castle Cousland - Spring, 9:28 Dragon
[for @icewolfcaptain ]
The night air was delicious and light - Ferelden had come into the end of winter; with warm, sun kissed days and crisply chill, windy nights. The beating of bodhran drums, the whistles of tin flutes, and the bright and bouncing vocal harmonies all floated into the air and on the wind as the post-hunt celebration drew on.
The tables at the head, and along the sides of Highever's castle hall were laden with stews and seethings, dumplings, roasts, and even fish pies - perhaps not the same as the more well known variety in Starkhaven, but unique in its flavor, and a pleasantly delightful effort nonetheless. It was a celebration unique to this country - most other 'civilized' nations, and certainly the Chantry, marked of note the sun-driven holy days of the year - not the moon's. But in Ferelden, when warm days were precious, the the season of new life even more so - the first days of spring were some of the best.
This year was a bit more colorful and vibrant than perhaps may have been usual... The Couslands were hosting a guest of import, and Bryce had never been one to skimp when it came to matters of hospitality. The laws and mores of guest rights and hospitality were woven deep into the fabric of Ferelden - since days uncounted long before the land had even been called 'Ferelden'. It was something they undoubtedly still shared with their more "rustic" cousins.
'Ferelden is but one foul day away from reversion to pagan barbarism.' Or so said the Empress of Orlais, when advising her most recent Ambassador to Denerim.
Elissa waited at the head table with her mother - a few flowers braided loosely into her dark hair, in a coat and dress of differing shades of blue and trimmed with gold. In both her hands she held a two handled cup, carved and inlaid with images and icons of wolves and laurels. Her eyes flickered about the end of the room as the other attendants and servants milled about, but they were always drawn back to where her father stood, conversing with her brother and their guest of honor...
Thane Isolfr of Skjeggestad...
She was not ashamed to admit her fascination had taken a firm hold of her since being informed of her father's plans to host the Avvar leader and a few of his companions to discuss trade and passage through the lands he controlled in the Frostbacks. With how much she'd been in the castle's library, reading and studying what knowledge they had on the Avvar - Aldous had wryly commented that the Teyrn ought to 'invite barbarians to sup more often'.
"I don't know why his Lordship wastes his time with so much extra frivolity - They're just Avvar after all... you could impress them with huts made of anything better than mud, shit, and twigs..."
The sneering condescension in Arl Howe's voice to the left of her sent an unpleasant shudder down Elissa's back. She whipped her head around with an openly indignant expression and had opened her mouth to speak, but Eleanor reached out to grab and squeeze her arm.
The elder Lady Cousland then looked at the good Arl and arched a brow - her voice was superficially sweet, but her look was cold and sharp.
"Speak of your own guests in your own hall however you wish, Rendon - But you will keep a civil tongue in your mouth while you're here in ours."
There was a darkness that passed over Howe's expression before he forced a smile and inclined his head deferentially.
"Of course - as your Ladyship commands."
Elissa sighed and shook her head trying to clear away the sour feeling being around her father's friend often caused. There was distraction enough, and her expression was more relaxed as her father and Fergus finally approached with their guest.
"... would like to introduce you to the rest of my family. My wife, Eleanor... and my daughter, Elissa."
A warm smile spread across her face, the corners of it reaching up to her glittering blue eyes. She took a step forward, and lifting the cup with both hands, she offered it to him in, and with, the traditional greeting.
"Ver heill ok sæll, Thane... Welcome to my father's hall."

Best LASIK Eye Surgery in Thane
Introduction
A common and successful technique for correcting eyesight, LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) has improved vision for millions of individuals worldwide. This thorough guide will provide you all the information you need to make an informed choice if you're thinking about getting best LASIK eye surgery in Thane. We can help you identify the  best eye specialist in thane and explain the treatment and its advantages.
Understanding LASIK Eye Surgery
Myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism are typical vision issues that can be resolved by laser eye surgery (LASIK). Clearer vision is achieved by reshaping the cornea, the transparent front portion of the eye, to enable light to enter the eye and focus correctly onto the retina.
How LASIK Works
1. Preparation: The surgeon examines your eyes thoroughly to make sure you are a good candidate for LASIK before doing the procedure. This include mapping the form of the cornea, measuring its thickness, and looking for any eye disorders.
2. Anesthesia: To make the process painless, numbing eye drops are used.
3. Making the Flap: A femtosecond laser or a microkeratome are used to make a thin flap on the cornea. After that, the flap is carefully raised to reveal the corneal tissue underneath.
4. Cornea Reshaping: To correct the refractive error, a specific amount of corneal tissue is removed using an excimer laser, reshaping the cornea.
5. Repositioning the Flap: Using its natural bandage function, the corneal flap is gently adjusted. It sticks rapidly and doesn't require stitches.
Benefits of LASIK Eye Surgery
Best Lasik eye surgery offers numerous benefits, making it a preferred choice for vision correction:
1. Quick Recovery: Most patients experience significant improvement in vision within 24 hours, with minimal discomfort.
2. Long-Lasting Results: LASIK provides permanent vision correction for most individuals, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.
3. High Success Rate: LASIK has a high success rate, with the majority of patients achieving 20/20 vision or better.
4. Enhanced Quality of Life: Improved vision can enhance daily activities, sports, and overall quality of life.

“ i don’t know how long i’ll be able to protect you for, but i guarantee you, i’ll only stop with my final breath. ” for Charley and Thane?
It's been sooo long since I've written for these two, but ugh, they break my heart.
~~~~
Charley couldn’t recall the last time she’d slept so soundly.
It was definitely before Saren, probably before Torfan even, back when she was a new recruit with nothing to haunt her dreams. Blood, fire, the pain of bullets lodged in the soft tissue of her body… these memories would always plague her, no matter the amount of time that passed. She saw it all when she closed her eyes most nights. Sometimes she could even see it when she was awake.
Opening her eyes to the dark room, she turned on her side, relieved to see the rise and fall of the drell’s chest beside her. Despite the things she’d seen, the things she’d done in her short and violent life, having Thane safe and alive beside her was more than she had ever hoped for.
Violence was a normal everyday occurrence for them both, but this thing between them- she didn’t dare call it love if only for the fear of losing it - this was what kept her going even after her failures and her losses. Without his strong presence beside her, without his steady hand, and his unwavering loyalty, she wouldn’t be here now.
Shifting closer, Charley snaked a hand around Thane’s chest, pressing herself against the length of his body. Her lips found the curve of his shoulder, soft kisses trailing against his skin as she waited for him to wake. They didn’t have long before they would arrive at the Collector Base and she wanted to prolong this moment. But she knew they couldn’t.
“Siha?” His voice may have been rough from sleep, but Thane’s entire body was relaxed, more relaxed than she’d ever seen him. When he turned to face her, his dark eyes were opened and ever watchful.
“Sorry to wake you, but EDI says we’re getting close to the relay. I thought you’d want to say-”
Her throat closed over the word goodbye.
Thane pressed his lips to her forehead, breath warm against her skin. “You will do what you do best, Siha, and that’s lead us. And I will be there by your side, protecting you.”
“Thane-”
She didn’t want to think about what was coming, after everything with the Collectors was finished. If they survived, she didn’t know how long they would have before he would be bound to a hospital.
“Listen to me, Siha.” He pulled her against his chest, holding her so that she could feel the beating of his heart, the air in his lungs. She clung to him as tightly as she dared, hating how weak she felt, how lost she would be if she lost him. “Every being has a limited time in this universe. But with every last breath in me, I will protect you.”
Shutting her eyes, she forced the tears away. If this was the last time she held Thane, tears would not ruin it. “And I will fight for you.”
Thane hummed, the sound happier than she was expecting from him. “Then we will be unstoppable.”
She prayed to God, both his and hers, that he was right.
Are you one of the many people who experience blurry vision after staring at a screen for too long? Well, fret not as Suruchi Eye Hospital, the leading eye hospital in Navi Mumbai has got your back! Our team of expert eye specialists in Navi Mumbai explain that this phenomenon is called 'Computer Vision Syndrome' or CVS. It occurs due to prolonged exposure to screens such as computers, phones or tablets which causes strain on the eyes and leads to fatigue. When our eyes are focused on a screen for too long, they tend to blink less frequently resulting in dryness and irritation. This further causes headaches, neck pain and blurred vision. The best way to prevent Computer Vision Syndrome is by taking frequent breaks from your screen every 20 minutes and practicing eye exercises recommended by our specialist doctors at Suruchi Eye Hospital. Remember- healthy eyes lead to a better life!
