I love all these lfmb memories 😭taking me back to my childhood and happier times. The part where Fernando shows up with her diary, and he says he liked her drawing, it kinda looked like a child had drawn it, I laughed a little bit, was that just me? Don't you think they infantilized Lety a tad too much in this version? At least pre-Acapulco that's the vibe I got from seeing her purse, her desk decor, and just the overall way she behaved. Not that there's anything wrong with this because considering how sheltered she was, it made sense. Moreover, it is an adaptation so I'm fine with the characters having a different approach. But do you think that it was done on purpose to soften her part in the affair and the financial fraud? A lot of the harsh criticism people have for Betty is that she was "the other woman", so perhaps they wanted to portray Lety as more innocent (she's even deeply religious and is shown going to church constantly) although it kinda goes against the intent behind Betty's character as a whole which was to present a morally gray and flawed protagonist. Also, when they go to Cuernavaca, she will not sleep with him again and tells him over and over that she feels guilty and bad for doing that to Marcia. Just something I thought about after seeing your post about her diary and the drawing.

No, bc I laughed too. It's hard to take seriously despite Fernando being so sincere. Betty's diary is shown to have doodles but not drawings like Lety's. Weird that she drew stick figures when I think in this version they established that Lety was an artist of sorts.

Yes, they did infantilize her too much but they also infantilized Fernando too in a lot of ways. So it's fine? (Equality?).

I think their mutual infantilization was done for multiple reasons. Bc it's sole genre was comedy, bc it was meant to be 'family friendly', bc producers wanted this version to be different fm the original. Ive said before and I'll say it again, Rosy Ocampo (the producer) is the main reason the mexican version is like that. Bc she specialized in children's programing--that's why you have Marcia at the end saying she learned her lesson and now she's a good person who will never judge someone by their appearance. (Marcela would never say that, lol).

It's also a similar issue to Betty in BeNY, where they don't know how to deal with a character that's incredibly naive but incredibly smart. So in this version they go to the extreme with Lety but for comedy's sake. Regarding her upbringing--the relationship Lety has with her parents feels even more....She's more of the quintessential 'good girl'\'good daughter' than Betty is bc she lacks Betty's inner rebelliousness. For example, she ends up telling her dad that she lied about her job at Conceptos, that she started as a secretary who later got promoted. Why? Bc kids shouldn't lie to their parents. It's the hidden message imo.

A little bit. It's a tiny part of the 'multiple reasons' bit.

There's a part in the filler where Fernando has a daydream nightmare where Don Erasmo confronts him and says 'you corrupted my daughter by involving her in fraud AND an affair'. Which i thought was interesting bc now its presented to the audience that Fernando feels he is to blame for things Lety's done and that he feels guilty of said corruption. It's similar but different take to how Armando sees Betty's fragility and innocence.

Actually, a lot of the filler is spent on establishing that Fernando and Lety feel guilty for what they're doing. And that does feel like it's on purpose. It reads like the morality police.

A lot of the harsh criticism people have for Betty is that she was "the other woman", so perhaps they wanted to portray Lety as more innocent'...

Betty to this day gets a lot of criticism for being the other woman and for standing up for herself. And for ending up as president of ecomoda while Marcela leaves empty handed. When it was originally airing and it was revealed that Betty wasn't a virgin....it was a big deal. It's literally unheard of for female telenovela protags to have any sexual experience. She was a trendsetter. But yes, she is morally grey and complex. Lety is not morally grey at all despite making similar choices to her original counterpart. That's not a crime. But it is done on purpose---so that the general audience roots for her.

Nothing is really Lety's fault bc she was just a naive girl in love. And she feels bad about everything all the time so it's okay that these things happened the way they happened.

I've yet to see Lety be criticized the way Betty is in comment sections, btw.

I haven't rewatched the last third of the filler, but yeah despite having multiple opportunities to have sex again they don't bc Lety's feels guilty, which is insanely stupid and done in part bc of the original script and also bc they need show the audience that Lety is a Good Person Who Thinks Of Others.

Meanwhile in the original the only reason Betty doesn't sleep with him again is because she reads the letter and believes he never loved her. It's not because of guilt. If she had never read it, I can assure you that after the Arboleda event Armando would have gotten lucky. At the very least, heavy making out in his car.

Sidenote, Lety and Fernando should have slept together a third time if they wanted the letter to actually hit Lety where it hurts after all that filler. It doesn't make sense otherwise.

Baked wild salmon with a lapsang souchong honey glaze

Topped with a vanilla cinnamon persimmon reduction, rosemary and macerated pinecones

Served on a bed of zucchini, onion, leek, farro, and arugula

Matsumoto likes adventurous food, and I wanted something that included smoke (ash) and persimmon elements, for Haineko and because she loves persimmons. I upped the liquid smoke in the recipe by subbing in lapsong souchong-infused honey instead of molasses, and added the candied pinecone for Matsumoto’s name (松 = Matsu = pine). Special thanks to @the-kings-tail-fin, who foraged and pureed the persimmon!

RECIPE DEVELOPMENT

Nanao (with Nemu’s assistance) braved the 12th and convinced Akon to give her access to his personal library of torrented books from the Living World, among them some exotic Western cookbooks. She did a lot of research into the different kinds of seasonings that distinguished Japanese from Western cooking. (Sasakibe would have happily helped her with this, but frankly he did not occur to her.)

From there, in much the way she weaves kidou, Hinamori suggested alterations to the recipe that would bring out flavors specific to Matsumoto: Persimmons, pine, smoke.

PREPARATION

Rukia and Kiyone were in charge of the actual cooking. Rukia’s initial plan was to convince the Kuchiki family chef to lend them use of the kitchen, but—as it happens—the Kuchiki family chef has a massive crush on Rukia, and so she volunteered to oversee their cooking exploits personally.

TASTE TEST

Yachiru and Nemu were on taste test duty—Yachiru because she volunteered, and Nemu because on one actually trusts Yachiru’s palate. Nemu, on the other hand, supplied a full flavor profile and molecular gastronomical workup for the recipe.

PAIRING

Isane made a persimmon rum punch to go with the meal, at Unohana’s suggestion. (Note: I did not make a persimmon rum punch, because I do not like alcohol and didn’t want to spend money on any. Sorry, Matsumoto!)

DESSERT

Beni imo manju! (Okinawan sweet potato pastry.) These are from Hitsugaya, and they’re from the shop in Junrinan where he and Matsumoto first met. 😊

Hot take incoming: I don't think Mash actually likes Ritsuka. I thinks she admires him/her but love doesn't seem to be present imo. The reason I say this is because to start with, Mash has never once called Ritsuka by name. She only calls them senpai or master. Second, Mash really depends on Ritsuka for knowledge of the outside world. That's admiration right there. Not love. And final reason is we have Charlotte who has less confidence than Mash and she came out and said she loves Ritsuka.

I will die on the hill of Mash x Ophelia. As far as my headcanon is concerned Mash is a gay as fuck. If that means I have to block out half of all her non-main story scenes, so be it.

More seriously, I 100% agree. Nothing about Mash has ever felt like romance to me, it's always felt like deep admiration and a sense of fulfilment from Ritsuka treating them as a human being just like any other. It's part of why I hate the stalker/jealousy shit. Not only is it shallow pandering, it's completely out of character because it only fits if you make VERY reductive assumptions such as "well she's the female lead so obviously she's in love with the main character." Meanwhile even if i'm not that big a fan, yes Charlotte absoluely feels like she genuinely loves Ritsuka despite being a very similar idea of someone who grows attached to someone for making them feel fulfilled. In fact, them being so similar in their reason for attachment only serves to highlight that Mash really isn't written (in my eyes at least) as a romantic interest but rather someone with a deep platonic love for the people who gave them a place to belong.

Even with Beni-enma and the wife stuff and all that, I get the strong feeling of it not being about Mash being in love, but about Mash wanting a place she feels she belongs and having a deep desire to be useful to others.

The only thing that tells me Mash is in love with Ritsuka is my cynicism, and that's a sign that it's better off NOT that way.

Chinsukō! It's an Okinawan shortbread cookie which is unfortunately not sold in the US as far as I know ;.; I always buy multiple packs and hoard them when I go there. Also saataa andagi! They're basically like donut holes, except denser and less sweet.

Mochi is another one I can't get enough of. My favourites are daifuku mochi (rice dough filled with anko [adzuki red bean paste]), ichigo daifuku mochi (the same thing but with a strawberry in the very middle), and ice cream mochi.

I'm also partial to anything beni imo or ube flavoured, chocolates, cheesecake, baked goods with fruit and/or custard....

The pokémon part of this blog's lore has two subsets, or layers to it.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, where Felix has a much bigger role, and an integral key part to the world, and.....the human world/mainline games.

I do see these as generally a bit separate. But, Arceus and other legendaries know Felix from the PMD branch more personally- leading to the trust in the human world to handle a few things. Also, his family has counterparts in PMD (which could be spoilers for this blog's plot if you figured it who these characters are. it's subtle yet easy to figure out imo from bio details.)

Felix is typically, but not always, depicted as a pikachu (depends on the game tho, and the species ultimately doesn't matter- I've replayed the first 2 games and DX countless times;;;;)

so things may seem disjointed or make 'less sense' from the human world. But it's Felix's involvement anyway that pushes him into his current situation.

With that said, he's not the only human in the 'spotlight' so to speak, with previous generations especially handled by red, gold, etc. until gen 5.

Felix's lineage may vary, but i have a lot of possible ancestor/descendant headcanons, especially from Hisui.

Beni as a possible ancestor, since I have IRL japanese WWII ancestry which may be kyushu/hoennian, just a guess. Which would play into the cooking and chronic illness. My Cynthia muse specifically descended from Cogita, Volo, and Felix through some combination down the line. Her positive attitude takes after Felix, though. My Akari muse is another likely ancestor for Felix (she's also the what-if stand in; had Felix not been there, she'd be involved) Alder being more presently related to Felix, since I'm of native/brown descent and he's like the One(1) rep

Getting ready to roast Okinawan potato, also called beni-imo. This is Ipomoea batatas, not to be confused with Dioscorea alata, the Hawaiian purple yam called ube thst most people are familiar with and that is used to make ice cream and a custard dessert.
