The Truman Show

what a great concept for a movie and it’s interesting how it was made in 1998

how scary would it be for me to think that this might actually happen in real life, what a boring show that is

but if we’re being real, today in 2020 with social media, the truman show i s pretty much what’s happening right now and as bo burnham said in one of his performances, we are constantly performing and are watching people perform but in this case… he just doesn’t know it…. yet

day 10, 909.. wow that’s 29 years. also since i thought of writing this in somewhat middle/start of the movie i googled how many days only to see a little explanation for the light that fell and ugh what a spoiler

so now we have the radio and the radio talking back at him and him not noticing it frankly… you just have that moment at times so i’m guessing him not noticing it is understandable.

also i started making notes when he was being shoved against the ad. that’s funny and when they had nothing to say to him after shoving hiim there. that’s fun

also if everyone there are just actors and he’s the main character, what’s the plot then?

is he looking for his parents with that call? what’s that magazine with the girls?

is everything superficial because i will die

i’m watching bo burnham’s inside on netflix

i have loved every single special he has put out and until now i can’t choose between what. or make happy but i just love every single thing that he puts out.

i first knew about him back in college. i always find people who are passionate and thoughtful about what they do as really endearing, hence my love for bo burnham, countless comedians, and bts.

i guess the love comes from the fact that i’ve never seen that in myself my entire life but i also think that was me in college but i was too in the zone to notice.

the reason i am writing this right now is because bo burnham’s art, although he might think that that is pretentious, or his comedy was always a mixture of criticism, sadness, sarcasm, and thoughtfulness if that makes sense. it was always on the edge and the way he started the special made me think that inside was going to be different; well it is, in a way. but also in a way, it’s the same. the songs, the mindset he has, the quirky transitions, the attribution to declining mental health, in a way i don’t relate but i see it. in a way i see someone also struggling, albeit in a different way that i am but in a way it is comforting to know that we might not be experiencing the same things, but still, i am not alone in my self-doubt or in my depression or whatever it is i am feeling.

i am grateful for people like bo who put their heart or thoughts into their art and share it with people around them. i sometimes want to reach out but who am i but a mere viewer enjoying the things they put out. i can’t even reach out to people who i want to reach out and i KNOW them, how could i reach out to people who don’t even know me. so here’s a tumblr post for that special. it’s beautiful and sad and funny and comforting, but he doesn’t have to know that but i wish he did but please don’t read this because it’s embarrassing. thx.

also, damn. how is he so good.

so i made the mistake of turning off the iCloud for my notes, now the few (well, it was pretty long) notes on the first two chapters was erased from my laptop. that’s great! so i’m going straight to tumblr. hoping that this website won’t ruin it for me.

Season 5 Lucifer

welcome to my unsolicited thoughts about Season 5 of Lucifer.  

as an avid and veteran series binger AND a talker-while-watching-a-movie-or-series-but-does-not-want-to-spoil-anything-for-my-friends type of person, i have finally dedicated a space and found a good way to let all my thoughts out as i watch a movie or series when i am alone when i can’t bother a lot of people because (1) they don’t want to be bothered and (2) i don’t want to spoil things for them.

so here are my thoughts, and of course, SPOILERS AHEAD.

BTW, i LOVED all of Lucifer! but this season was a slow burn for me. 

ep1

drug scene at Lux; is Amenadiel mean now?

so is Lucifer himself in his own hell loop when he became the ruler of hell? his own guilt towards his father? idk (to be frank, i don’t remember the past episodes except for the fact that he is now back in hell)

the premise of the first episode is cute!

side note after the title card: i remember how much i loved the soundtrack for Lucifer!

Maze is still hot.

I love how Maze and Chloe’s relationship developed and how they don’t have to use words to communicate.

Amenadiel’s and the Psychologist’s house HAHAHAHA i love it.

is Charlie Jesus? His mom’s faith in front of Ella is like every mom plus every religious person ever haha

i appreciate Lucifer wearing the bracelet until now. (but i expected nothing less)

i’ve always loved how people reacted to Amenadiel. he always seemed nerdy but these are times where he truly shine and im so happy.

i forgot.  i think i was showering that time that Michael and Lucifer fought and theyre hella dumb. ok lets go toxic masculinity mixed with daddy issues.

i know they’re too on the nose ABOUT EVERYTHING but i do like the debate about free will and predestination

honestly i don’t know what’s Chloe’s issue is with being made by God probably just because i’m lazy and i just want to lay everything in His hands but coming from a very atheistic perspective where she comes from i kinda get it. i guess my only reasoning why i’m okay with God’s reason is with her is because of my fear of the unknown; my current fear with not knowing my true purpose. at least she got hers! what is she complaining about?

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER

welcome to my unsolicited thoughts about Avatar: The Last Airbender

as an avid and veteran series binger AND a talker-while-watching-a-movie-or-series-but-does-not-want-to-spoil-anything-for-my-friends type of person, i have finally dedicated a space and found a good way to let all my thoughts out as i watch a movie or series when i am alone when i can’t bother a lot of people because (1) they don’t want to be bothered and (2) i don’t want to spoil things for them.

this wasn’t as organized as my Lucifer post because i was still trying to figure out how to write things down. PLUS some stuff may be missing just because i had friends who have watched the Avatar already so some of my thoughts went straight to their chatboxes (is that how you call that? INBOX!!! dumb dumb)

so here are my thoughts, and of course, SPOILERS AHEAD.

book 1

i love that the setting for avatar the last airbender centers on war and all of the leading characters are children. i think, it makes a statement on how the war can affect children. this is seen in how katara and his brother are focused on training younger children for the war, while aang who was somehow stuck in time focuses more on games because he is unaware of the existence of war in the first place, much like the younger children

this is seen in the line where aang and katara are penguin sledding ang katara says “i haven’t done this since i was a kid” and aang says “you still are a kid!”

episode 4 and i find it cool that the characters are always connected to the elements of their nation. how people from the fire nation are always hotheaded, how aang is just happy go lucky, among other things. 

The Storm is probably one of the best episodes of book 1.

this is where the backstory of Aang and Zuko are explored and although how they were raised failed them, they grew up or are growing up as very strong individuals which is something you do not really expect from their backgrounds which I am happy about.

Gyatso and Uncle Iroh are definitely good parental figures for the two boys as they show unconditional love which I believe helped them be strong anyways. 

Zuko may not be understood by his father but he is lucky enough to have his Uncle Iroh to always balance this out.

Gyatso’s love for Aang did not falter as seen in the scene where he said that he wasn’t going to let the other leaders take Aang away. However, again, psychologically and developmentally speaking, being the Avatar really holds a lot of responsibility and should have been explained properly. At 12, knowing that you probably have the biggest responsibility in their world is really a lot to take in 

Gyatso, pushing for Aang to live a normal life as a boy is perfect because it is really important in Aang’s development.

Further, you can see how Aang values fun and play in his adventures and I’m happy that Katara and Sokka support him in these aspects.

It’s not really always about your family but those who will always love you unconditionally.

book 2

theyre forcing aang to beat the fire lord now but i feel like if he isn’t prepare enough, instead of the completing his destiny, i feel like he’ll die. BAHALA KA GENERAL FUNG!

oops im in the middle of the episode and it shows na rather than he’ll die HE CAN FUCKING KILL

i mean. the dreams WERE premonition

zuko and his uncle cut their ponytails. thank God natauhan din kau. baduy yan charot. di ka talaga mahal ng tatay mo. sarili lang niya mahal niya.

and oh no zuko believes his father wants him back. listen to uncle iroh!!!!!!!

when zuko left uncle iroh and uncle iroh still gave his horse, that’s what you call unconditional love!!!

ah gets ko na kung baket ganon pinalaki si zuko. may daddy issues din tatay niya pagdating sa firstborn hahahaha

zuko is the perfect definitioon of the enemy of my enemy is my friend

iroh was hit and i know katara can really help but zuko’s just like that

episode of their first day in ba sing se says a lot about what happens during the crime (looking back, do i really mean crime or war?)

uncle iroh on tales of ba sing se episode uwu (BEST EPISODE OF BOOK 2!)

new spirit animal: jin

tales of ba ing se is probably my favorite episode of all avatar (at least so far)

every tale was beautiful and showed a different focus for all of the characters, even momo’s, especially momo’s!!!! 

and what a great transition to appa’s episode

a great show how appa did not give up without a fight

and shows a great parallel to how circus animals are treated

not to mention how zoos animals are treated in the previous episode

so many tears for 2nd half of book 2

last 2 eps of season 2 are ao beautifully made.

one of my favorites

i love how healthy is the relationship of sokka and katara’s parents are

zuko!!!!! i miss

book 3

aang has hair!!!

zuko has a girlfriend!! (i wish it was me)

also the fact that the military were the only ones that needed to be controlled by azula to take over ba sing se says a lot about who heads the military. fucking damn

i love uncle iroh!!! he’s my father iroh

sokka’s sword is damn cool

father iroh’s transformation damn!

oooh i think a lot of people are gonna h8 me but cute si zuko and yung jowa niya. mas tugma love language nila for me so far hahahahhaa (spoke too soon nag-away sila pero norma naman kasi teenager sila) simp talaga si zuko HAHAHA but i do feel like their personalities balance each other out

i love zuko’s character development, aang’s development is as valuable as much as zuko’s and honestly a more relatable character given that he’s not the best as opposed to the avatar but is still going thru the same changes (what do you call this again? there’s a term for this storyline) 

parallel is best scene in the episode of s3 ep 6

ohhh s3 e6 also shows why aang and zuko are so intertwined damn

woah that fucken twist. did not expect that to happen.

nice. s3 ep 6 is also beautifully made!!

beige is guessing that puppetmaster is about bloodbending. update: i was right.

i love the use of dreams on atla

also i love the visual style of nightmares and daydreams

it’s funny how zuko had to be carried to mai’s house

so i guess kataraang > zukatara for me but honestly zukaang all the way

ep10

go zuko!!! we love a self-aware prince!

also a great talk about destiny! whether its ur choice or not

i love how everything in the show was crafted for this very moment

(kind of like the story for little women movie, from long flashbacks to quicker pacing between the old and the new)

aang and zuko’s destiny was paced very slowly but it was made for these last half of the book which i think is such a beautiful way to craft the story

e yung ninakaw ng avengers yung idea ni aang charot (i dont know about their storylines and idk much about it and i might get hate for this but yea) HAHAHAHA

AND I THINK THIS IS BETTER WRITTEN OOPS

funny zuko when he allowed humor to be part of his personality; the impersonations are 10/10

appa licking zuko. he’s my spirit animal

i also love that all the bender teachers of the avatar are children/teenagers!!!

also the fact that avatar roku and sozin were bestfriends and now aang and zuko are hanging out zukaang forever

i love how the last few episodes were dedicated to building up the friendship between zuko and all other members

the boiling rock episode reminds me of the movie liway where they were imprisoned due to martial law. abuse in prisons is really scary

sorry zukataras im maiko??? idk. betraying ur country if it doesnt serve u well anymore #couplegoals HAHAHAHA

im at the last episode and my prediction is yung comet ang icocontrol ni aang update: i was wrong.

i loved the avatar! it talked a lot about wars and its effects not only to the world as a whole but each person in it as well. it also delved deep into politics and how it can be good or bad. i also find it very interesting how they frame being vegetarian, i’m guessing the writers are??? either they are or they studied a lot about where the supposed religion aang embodies. for a show made for children, i appreciate the emphasis on how change can be brought by the children, the next generation. and how the way things are and how things were always done does not have to be the way things are done now. you can have a say on what your future holds. also, it tackled so much toxicity in families which i really do appreciate. it feels like therapy. i’m so happy to have watched it now that i am 21 because it’s one of those things i would never have enjoyed when i was younger (plus, we really don’t have nickelodeon in our province, so that’s one more thing)

but i really do love it. i think i finished it in three days or less? i’m grateful for the time i have got to spend with this show.
