bechloe week day 1: sneaking around
Words: 1846
Notes: It’s bechloe week! I think I mentioned before that I didn’t think I’d be writing every prompt this year, and yeah that’s going to be the case. I have an idea for a couple that I’d like to write (plus this one) but I won’t be doing all of them.
Anyway, enjoy day 1!

Beca tried not to glance over her shoulder for a third time as she made her way across campus, past the grand building which contained her father’s office, and towards the auditorium where Bellas’ rehearsals were held.
Normally there’d be nothing suspicious about Beca leaving her dorm and making the short walk to the auditorium, but it was close to 10 pm on a Sunday night, so it would be hard to convince anyone she ran into that she was simply heading to a rehearsal.
She tried to remind herself that no one was likely to ask. Nobody cared why she was sneaking around the campus at night. Nobody would even give her a second glance.
It still didn’t stop her from tugging her hood up over her head and turning away as she passed by her father’s building, just on the off chance that he would be working late. On a Sunday.
She felt ridiculous, but she did it anyway, hands pushing deeper into her pockets as she quickened her pace.
As she reached the auditorium, she caught sight of the person who made all this sneaking around worth it. She felt the knot of anxiety in her stomach loosen and her shoulders started to relax.
Chloe, who had been talking on the phone, spotted her approaching and smiled.
“I gotta go ‘Bree, speak to you later,” Chloe said, grinning at Beca as she ended the call and slipped her phone back into her pocket. “Hi,” she said.
“Hi,” Beca replied, smiling, feeling the calm relief that only Chloe could make her feel. “Have you been waiting long?”
Chloe shook her head, turning to unlock the door of the auditorium. “Aubrey always makes me call her when I’m heading out. She doesn’t like me walking around by myself this late.”
Beca felt a familiar pang of guilt in her stomach as she followed Chloe through the door.
“That wasn’t a dig, by the way,” Chloe said, taking hold of Beca’s hand now that the outside world couldn’t see them.
“I know,” Beca said. If there was one thing she knew about Chloe, it was that she was a well of patience and understanding.
“And I haven’t told her about us,” Chloe said, taking hold of Beca’s other hand, walking backwards as she pulled her away from the door and further into the darkness of the auditorium. “I haven’t told anyone.”
“I know,” Beca said again. Add that to the list of things she knew about Chloe Beale. Patient, understanding, trustworthy.
“Then why does your face look like that?” Chloe asked, stopping, smiling as she felt Beca bump into her. There was just enough moonlight peaking through the high-up windows that Chloe could make out Beca’s expression.
“Like what?”
“Like you’re worried,” Chloe said, kissing one cheek, then the other, then her lips. “Like you’re thinking too much.”
“I just… I hate that we have to do this,” Beca said. “I hate that I have to keep you a secret.”
“Bec, it’s okay,” Chloe replied, her hands squeezing Beca’s before moving to rest on her hips. “You aren’t ready yet. I’m happy to wait until you are.”
“I… I want to be ready,” Beca said. “It’s just… My Dad works here…”
“I know,” Chloe said. “Believe me, I get it, you don’t have to explain yourself. Coming out is a big thing and you shouldn’t rush it.”
Beca smiled and felt the tension she’d been carrying begin to fall away. “How’d I get so lucky with you?” She asked, her eyes falling shut as Chloe closed the gap between them.
“I’m the lucky one,” Chloe said, her forehead resting against Beca’s once their lips separated. “I’m the only one who gets to see you like this.” She pulled Beca further into the room, towards the beat-up sofa in the far corner. The one Chloe always made sure was full of junk during rehearsals, so no one ever sat on it. “One day, the world will see you for the amazing person you are. One day, you’ll outshine the sun. But tonight, I get you all to myself.”
“I bet you say that to all your secret girlfriends,” Beca said, trying to hide the way her heart beat faster, glad Chloe couldn’t see her cheeks darken. She dumped her bag on the ground and shrugged out of her jacket, dropping it on one side of the sofa as Chloe took a seat on the other.
“Only the ones as special as you,” Chloe said, pulling Beca onto her lap. Her hands toyed with the end of Beca’s shirt. “Are you gonna keep this on?”
-
“How long will you wait?” Beca asked a little while later, her head on Chloe’s chest as they lay on the sofa. The cold air of the auditorium bit at her exposed shoulder, and she pulled the blanket she’d brought with her up so it covered them better.
“As long as it takes,” Chloe said, as patient as ever. “There’s no time limit.”
“What if I can’t ever do it?” Beca asked, shivering slightly, causing Chloe to hold her tighter. She didn’t want to admit she was cold. She didn’t want to leave this bubble they had.
“Then you don’t do it,” Chloe said. “Baby, I don’t want you to push yourself into doing something before you’re ready, just because you think it would make me happy.”
“You deserve to be with someone who isn’t afraid to be themselves,” Beca said. “Who isn’t afraid of people finding out that you’re together.”
Chloe let out a soft sigh as she ran her hand through Beca’s hair.
“Have you ever wondered why I never mention my parents?” She asked. She felt Beca shift on top of her, adjusting her position so she could see her better. Chloe kept her gaze on the particles of dust that floated through the shaft of moonlight. “Didn’t you think it was odd that I didn’t go home for Christmas?”
“I, uh, I never wanted to ask,” Beca said, feeling new waves of guilt hit her now. “I’m sorry, I should have. I didn’t know if it was a sensitive subject or not.”
“It’s okay,” Chloe said. “I’m kinda glad you didn’t, I don’t really like talking about them.”
“What happened?” Beca asked, assuming it was okay to ask now since Chloe had been the one to bring them up.
“We… We had a really good relationship when I was growing up. They were always kind, loving and supportive. They’re religious, but not like… They weren’t the kind to go protest outside Planned Parenthood, or turn up at Pride with a bullhorn, you know? They had their beliefs, but they were sort of the live and let live types. Or, I thought they were, anyway.”
Beca shifted her position again so could see Chloe better. She could just about make out the tears in her eyes, and it broke her heart because she knew where this story was going.
“I came out to them when I was sixteen,” Chloe said. “I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I knew the church had opinions about gay people, but I didn’t think my parents shared them. I didn’t think they were that kind of religious.” Chloe swallowed, and Beca pressed a kiss to the closest bit of her skin she could reach. “They told me either we could all just pretend I’d never said anything, or I could leave. Forever. So, for two years I pretended to be a different person. We never talked about it again, but they never looked at me in the same way. They never had the same… warmth when they spoke to me. And it destroyed me. It nearly killed me.”
Beca felt tears sting her eyes as Chloe spoke aloud the deep-seated fear she’d always had about what would happen if she ever came out to her own family.
“Before I went to college I spoke to them again. I told them nothing had changed, and they could either accept me for who I was or they could lose me,” Chloe said, clearing her throat. “I haven’t seen them in about three years now.”
“Chlo’, I’m so sorry,” Beca said. “You don’t deserve that. They don’t deserve you.”
“I know,” Chloe said. “So I know why you’re scared, and it’s why I would never rush you. Having your parents reject you like that… It changes you. It breaks something inside of you and I don’t know how you fix it. So believe me when I say you don’t need to come out until you’re ready.”
“Thank you for telling me all of that,” Beca said. “I had no idea. You always seemed so… you’re so confident and happy and I… I wouldn’t ever have known.”
“It was a conscious decision. I spent two years being ashamed of who I was,” Chloe said. “Being so desperately unhappy and feeling like I’d never be loved. When I came out again I decided I wasn’t going back to that. I lost the relationship with my parents, but I gained one with my aunt and her partner. I found a community and support and more real friends than I’d ever had before. I don’t regret it.”
“You’re amazing,” Beca said. She opened her mouth to say something else but was cut off by the sound of Chloe’s phone ringing.
Beca moved so Chloe could answer it.
“Hey ‘Bree,” Chloe said, rolling her eyes playfully at Beca. “I’m fine, I’ll be coming home soon. Yeah, I’ll call you when I’m on my way.”
She ended the call and looked at Beca with a sad smile. “Same time tomorrow?” She asked as she started pulling on her shirt.
Beca felt something in her chest tighten as she got dressed. She didn’t want to sneak around anymore. She didn’t want to watch as their friends teased Chloe about her secret partner that she refused to tell them about.
She felt like she was treating Chloe like some dirty secret that she would only meet up with at night to screw, and she hated herself for it. Even if Chloe insisted she was fine with it, Beca wasn’t. Not anymore.
She wanted to date Chloe for real. She wanted to hold her hand as they went out for dinner and kiss her goodnight on the doorstep. She wanted to really be her girlfriend, and she wanted to be able to tell people about her. To brag about her. She wanted to be able to share her like she was good news, and not hide her like she was a shameful secret.
“Bec?”
“Can… Can I come back with you?”
Chloe’s eyebrows raised in surprise.
“I’m not quite ready to tell my parents, but… Maybe we could tell Aubrey?”
Chloe’s eyes seemed to sparkle in the moonlight as she smiled. “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure,” Beca said. “I don’t wanna hide anymore. I just… I need to start small.”
Chloe held out her hand for Beca to take. “I’m really proud of you.”

BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 1
Hello, All: Today starts BeChloe Week 2022, and here is my installment for Day 1 - "Sneaking Around." It's a High School AU; I hope you like it.
Beca pulled to the curb in front of Choe’s house. She smiled as she turned toward Chloe and pulled her into a kiss.
“I had a great time tonight,” Beca murmured.
“I had a great time, too,” Chloe whispered, pulling Beca into another kiss.
Beca pulled back from the kiss and chewed on her lip.
“What’s wrong?” Chloe asked, cupping Beca’s cheek.
“I, uh, I think I want to come out to my dad,” Beca said. “And, maybe tell him about us.”
“Really?”
“Um, yeah? I don’t like this sneaking around. I love you, Chloe, and I want to be able to show it when other people are around.”
Chloe smiled and pulled Beca into another kiss. This was more passionate than the last.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yeah,” Chloe said. “I’m okay with telling your dad. I’m going to tell my mom, too. She already suspects I’m not exactly straight, but I haven’t come out to her about being gay or that we’re dating.”
“Do you want to tell them together?” Beca asked. “You and your mom can come over for dinner, and we can tell them at the same time.”
“I like that idea,” Chloe said.
“Great,” Beca said. “I’ll ask my dad if we can do it on Sunday and let you know.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Chloe said, leaning in to kiss Beca again.
After a few minutes of full-on making out, Chloe pulled back and looked out the window toward her house.
“I really should go in,” Chloe said.
“Okay,” Beca said. “I’ll call you tomorrow. I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Chloe said. “Goodnight.”
She closed the car door and hurried up the steps and into the house.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 1 ~
Beca hurried home as fast as she safely could. It was already past her curfew, and her dad would be pissed if he caught her coming in late.
The house was dark when Beca parked in front of it. Knowing her father was a light sleeper, she closed the car door as quietly as she could before walking up to the porch. She opened the front door and quickly slipped inside, quietly closing the door behind her. She stood for a moment, listening for any sounds that her father was possibly still awake. Hearing nothing, she took off her shoes and padded over to the stairs in her socks.
Beca stopped at the bottom of the stairs and listened again. Still not hearing anything, she started up the steps, making sure to step over the fifth one that creaked when any weight was put on it.
Beca hurried to her room and opened the door. She quietly shut the door and let out the breath she had been holding. She was safe; her dad hadn’t heard her come in.
Beca sighed and got ready for bed. She sent a quick text to Chloe before climbing into bed and drifting off to sleep.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 1 ~
The next morning, Beca came downstairs to find her father in the kitchen, drinking his coffee.
“Good morning,” Beca mumbled as she retrieved a bowl from the cabinet and set it on the table.
Beca then grabbed a box of cereal and the milk from the refrigerator.
“Good morning, Beca.”
Beca sat across from her father and made herself a bowl of cereal. She placed the milk between them.
“Um, dad?” Beca said, getting his attention.
“Hmmm?”
“I was wondering if we could invite Chloe and her mother over for dinner tomorrow night?”
“Funny you should mention that,” Warren said. “I already invited them. There is something Charlotte and I want to talk to you and Chloe about.”
“You do?” Beca asked, her spoon halfway to her mouth.
“Yes, we do,” Warren said. “It’s quite important, too.”
“Oh, um, okay,” Beca said.
“I’m going to go now,” Warren said. “I have a tee time with some of the other professors at ten.”
“Okay,” Beca said. “Have a good game.”
“Thanks,” Warren called out as he left.
As soon as her father was gone, Beca pulled out her phone and called Chloe.
“Hey, Beca, what’s up?” Chloe said.
“I asked my dad about having you and your mom over for dinner tomorrow, and he said he already invited you guys,” Beca blurted.
“I know,” Chloe said. “My mom just told me.”
“He said they wanted to talk to us about something,” Beca said. “Do you think they know about us?”
“Does it matter if they do?” Chloe asked. “We were going to tell them anyway.”
“I know,” Beca said. “I just think it’s just weird timing, is all.”
“Babe, stop worrying,” Chloe said. “We’ll tell them, or they’ll tell us; either way, we’ll be able to date out in the open and not have to sneak around.”
“But, what if they don’t like the idea of us dating? What if they’re against it? What if they want us to break up?”
“I’m not going to break up with you,” Chloe said, chuckling. “Would you break up with me if they don’t like us dating?”
“Nothing they say will make me break up with you,” Beca stated firmly.
“Good,” Chloe said. “Now stop worrying; it’s all going to be okay. I promise.”
“You’re right,” Beca sighed into the phone.
“Of course, I’m right. I’m always right,” Chloe said, giggling. “Want to come over and watch a movie with me? My mom went out and will be gone for hours.”
“I can be there in half an hour,” Beca said. “I just need to get dressed.”
“Great,” Chloe said. “See you in a bit.”
Beca ended the call and ran upstairs to her room.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 1 ~
On Sunday morning, Beca woke with a ball of anxiety sitting heavily in the pit of her stomach. She spent most of the night fretting over what her father wanted to talk to her and Chloe about. She still couldn’t get past the idea that he and Mrs. Beale knew about her and Chloe sneaking around and that they weren’t too happy about it.
“I wonder if Chloe is awake?” Beca mumbled to herself just as her phone rang.
Beca sat up and grabbed her phone, answering without checking the caller ID.
“Hello?”
“Hey, babe,” Chloe said. “I wasn’t sure you’d be awake. But then I also figured you’d be up because you were still worried about what our parents are going to say to us at dinner.”
“I both love and hate that you know me so well,” Beca said, chuckling lightly as she ran her hand through her hair.
“I just wanted to tell you not to worry about everything,” Chloe said. “I’ll be there with you, and whatever happens, we’ll deal with it together.”
“Thank you,” Beca breathed out. “That makes me feel better.”
“Good,” Chloe said. “I’ll see you at dinner. I love you.”
“See you at dinner,” Beca said. “And, I love you, too.”
Beca sighed as she got up to get dressed. She made her way downstairs was surprised to find her dad dusting the bookshelves.
“Dad?” Beca said, getting his attention. “What are you doing?”
“I’m cleaning,” Warren said. “I’ve gathered your stuff up and put it in a pile over there. You need to put it in your room. We can’t have Charlotte and Chloe over to a messy house now, can we?”
“Oh-kay,” Beca said, gathering her stuff and taking it upstairs.
Beca put everything on her bed and sat down.
“What is he up to?” Beca thought. “He never worries about cleaning when he has his friends coming over.”
Beca went back downstairs. Her father was no longer in the living room, so she went to the kitchen.
“What are we having for dinner tonight?” Beca asked when she saw her father standing in front of the refrigerator with the door open.
“Oh, um,” Warren said, looking in the refrigerator. “I was just looking to see what we had. There’s not much here since I didn’t get to the store yesterday.” He let the door close. “Maybe I’ll just order something for delivery. What do you think?”
“That sounds good,” Beca said. “I know Chloe and her mom like Mexican food. I can call Chloe and ask her what they want.”
“That’s perfect,” Warren said. “I told Charlotte dinner would be at six, so we should order by five.”
“I’ll go call Chloe now,” Beca said, leaving the kitchen.
Later that afternoon, the food Warren had ordered arrived, and Beca was helping her father set the table. There was a knock at the door.
“I’ll get it,” Warren said, leaving the kitchen.
Beca waited for her father to bring Chloe and Charlotte to the kitchen.
“It smells delicious,” Charlotte said as she entered the kitchen. “Hello, Beca.”
“Hi, Mrs. Beale,” Beca said. “Hey, Chloe.”
“Hey,” Chloe said.
“Chloe, you sit next to Beca on that side, and Charlotte and I will sit on this side,” Warren said.
Everyone sat as Warren began handing out the food. Beca’s leg was bouncing up and down under the table; Chloe laid a hand on her knee to calm her. Beca smiled a silent thank you as she placed her hand over Chloe’s and intertwined their fingers.
“This looks amazing,” Charlotte said. “Thank you for having us.”
“It’s our pleasure,” Warren said, smiling at Charlotte.
“What do you guys want to talk to us about?” Beca blurted out.
“Beca!” Chloe admonished as Beca stared at her father and Charlotte.
“Um, well,” Warren said, clearing his throat. “We had hoped to have this discussion after dinner, but I guess now is as good a time as any.”
“We’re dating,” Charlotte blurted out, blushing slightly. “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t hold it in any longer. I hope you two are okay with this.”
As soon as Beca heard the words ‘we’re dating,’ she snatched her hand away from Chloe’s. Chloe looked at her in surprise.
“You two are dating?” Beca squeaked out. “How long have you been sneaking around behind our backs?”
“Beca,” Chloe said, getting Beca’s attention.
“What?”
“You’re being very rude,” Chloe said. She then turned her attention to Warren and Charlotte. “I think it’s wonderful that they’re dating. I’m happy for you two.”
“You’re cool with this?” Beca asked, surprised. “You know this means we have to break up, right?”
“Break up?” Warren asked. “Are you two dating as well?”
“Yes,” Chloe said. “We were going to tell you tonight as well.”
“We’re not dating anymore,” Beca added. “Not after this.”
“Why not?” Chloe asked.
“What if they get married?”
“What if they do?”
“We’ll be sisters,” Beca said. “It will be wrong.”
“We’ll be stepsisters,” Chloe said. “And only related by marriage. There’s nothing wrong with us dating since we aren’t related by blood.”
“Hold on a second,” Warren said, causing the girls to look at him. “You’re mad because we didn’t tell you we were dating when you and Chloe have been secretly dating as well? That’s pretty hypocritical of you, Beca.”
“Chloe?” Charlotte said, getting Chloe to look at her. “Is this your way of telling us you’re gay? Both of you?”
“Yes, mom,” Chloe said. “We were both going to come out to you and tell you we’re dating. Are you okay with that?”
“I think it’s wonderful,” Charlotte said. “I always knew there was something more between you two than just being best friends.”
“I’m with Charlotte on this,” Warren said. “Beca, I hope you didn’t think I would think differently of you when I found out you were gay.”
“You’re really okay with it?” Beca asked.
“Of course, I am,” Warren said. “Chloe’s a lovely girl, and I can tell you two are happy together.”
Charlotte smiled at Warren and then looked at Beca.
“Are you truly going to break up with Chloe because your father and I are dating?” she asked.
“That’s a good question,” Chloe said, turning to Beca. “Because I seem to recall you telling me that no matter what they had to say about us dating, you wouldn’t break up with me. So, which is it?”
“Um, I, uh,” Beca stammered. She let out a big sigh and ran a hand through her hair. She looked at Chloe. “I don’t want to break up with you. I love you.”
“Awww,” Charlotte said.
“Good answer,” Chloe said, leaning in to kiss Beca.
Beca avoided the kiss and looked at her father and Charlotte. They were leaning toward each other, and Beca quickly turned and kissed Chloe to avoid seeing her father kissing Charlotte.
“Oh, maybe we can double date,” Charlotte and Chloe said together.
Beca and her father looked at each other and frowned.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Beca said, shaking her head.
“That’s a hard pass for me, too,” Warren said. “There are a lot of things I will do for my daughter, but going on a double date with her and her girlfriend is not one of them.”
Charlotte and Chloe laughed.
“That’s okay,” Chloe said. “I’m just happy that none of us has to sneak around anymore.”
“Hear, hear,” Charlotte said, raising her beer.
The others raised their glasses as well. They clinked their glasses in a toast to each other before taking a sip of their drinks.
“Let’s eat!” Warren said as they all set down their glasses.
“I do love you,” Beca whispered to Chloe.
“I love you, too,” Chloe responded, pecking Beca’s lips.

Happy Valentine's Day, Nerds ❤️
Will You Be My Valentine?
“Babe” Chloe whispered to a sleeping Beca
“Hmmm” Beca grunted, not bothering to turn and face the redhead.
“Will you be my Valentine?” She asked in a solemn tone.
“Chlo, a) it's ...” she checked her phone “ 2 in the morning and b) I'm literally your girlfriend. Go to sleep” Beca sighed.
“You didn't answer my question, though,” Chloe said lightly.
“If I say yes, will you let me sleep?” Beca grumbled, earning a soft chuckle from Chloe.
“Sure, grumpy cat, I will.”
“In that case, yes, Chloe, I would love to be your Valentine's,” Beca said, rolling her eyes at Chloe's antics.
“Hmmm, that won't work, again, but less sarcasm this time,” Chloe suggested.
“Seriously, now?”
“Yeap.”
“Let me ask you a question first,” Beca said instead.
“Sure, baby, what's up?”
“Why are we doing this?” Beca asked, confused.
“Because I want you to be my Valentine.”
“Isn't this a given, though, babe? Since we're in a relationship?”
“Becs, being in a relationship doesn't always mean you are in love. And celebrating Valentine's isn't only for couples either. It's about people who are in love. So, with you being my Valentine, I wanna show you how completely and utterly in love I'm with you.” Chloe replied, earnestly.
“Damn you, Beale.” Beca sniffed.
“So...?”
“Of course, I'll be your Valentine, you weirdo,” Beca replied. She chuckled when she saw Chloe giving a victorious fist bump in the air.

BECHLOE WEEK 2022 - MASTERPOST

Hi!! I think your writing is awesome 😍😍 if you could, could you write the “ i feel like shit. “ “ you look like it, too. “ “ hey! “ prompt?? Hope you're well!! 🥰💖
Thank you so much for sending this!
I'll be honest I don't know if this is any good. I feel like halfway through writing I got suddenly really confused about tenses and it was like I forgot how to write. I don't even know if I fixed it or not, but I think it's okay?
Or maybe it sucks, I don't know.

Chloe stifles a yawn as she stirs sugar and cream into her coffee.
Behind her, Beca is sitting up at the kitchen island, her head resting on her folded arms.
It’s early, and Beca hasn’t had a decent night’s sleep in days.
Chloe turns and pushes a mug of coffee towards her, trying to push down the worry in her stomach as she does.
Beca opens a bleary eye when she feels the mug brush against her hand. She gives a soft grunt. “Thanks.”
She forces herself to sit upright, the heel of her hand rubbing at her eye.
“Are you alright?” Chloe asks.
“I feel like shit,” Beca replies, taking a sip of coffee.
“Yeah, you look like shit,” Chloe says.
“Hey,” Beca pouted. “You aren’t supposed to agree!”
Chloe laughs and leans forward to tuck a strand of hair behind Beca’s ear. Her hand cups Beca’s face, and her thumb sweeps across her cheekbone. “You look tired, baby.”
“Yeah, I think I’m something beyond tired now. I think I left tired behind last week.” She checks the time on her phone. “I gotta go.”
Chloe sighs before taking Beca’s coffee and pouring it into her travel mug. “Home by dinner, okay? You promised.”
“I know.” Beca accepts the mug and plants a kiss on the corner of Chloe’s mouth. “No later than six.”
“And if you are going to be late - which you aren’t allowed to be - you have to call me,” Chloe says, watching her clearly exhausted girlfriend grab her jacket from the hook by the door.
“You got it, Beale,” Beca replies, before heading out of the door.
It’s 6:30 pm when Beca finally calls.
Chloe’s both annoyed and relieved when she sees Beca’s name on her screen, and she tries to hold back the bite of anger that she’s sure is going to come out.
“You’re late,” she said.
“You’re going to laugh at me,” is Beca’s response.
She sounds miserable and tired and a little sheepish all at once.
It takes effort to stay mad at Beca when she sounds this pathetic, but Chloe felt like for once she might manage it.
“What could possibly be funny about this?” Chloe asked.
“Look, I know I’m technically late, but I did leave work on time,” Beca said. “I left early, even.”

*banging on a table* Part 2! Part 2! Part 2!
Here it is! It's long as hell! And once again it's very heavy and angsty and everything the last chapter was.
The chapter is broken up into little snapshots, each one taking place after a time jump.
Trigger warning(s): abuse and alcoholism

That afternoon
“Doing okay?” Chloe asked, glancing across the car as they drove to Beca’s house. Beca let out a soft laugh, her head resting against the window. “Right. Stupid question.”
“Very stupid,” Beca said. “But thank you for asking it.”
They pulled up outside Beca’s house, but Beca made no effort to move.
She was tired, and sad, and her face was throbbing.
“I hate this,” Beca said.
“I know,” Chloe said. “I’m so sorry, Beca.”
“Why are you sorry?” Beca asked. “This is what you wanted, isn’t it? Me away from her?”
“Not like this,” Chloe said. “And just because this might be the right thing, doesn’t mean it’s an easy thing.”
Beca swallowed the lump in her throat. “This time yesterday, I was making my Mom a cup of tea, because she had a headache.” Beca sniffed. “And because of that, my life is… It’s completely different.”
Beca got out of the car and made her way into the house.
Chloe followed behind but kept her distance. She couldn’t begin to imagine how hard this was for Beca, and she wanted to give her space.
“Do you want me to help pack your room up?” Chloe asked as they entered the house.
“No,” Beca said. “There isn’t much in there, it won’t take long.”
Chloe watched her climb the stairs before her eyes travelled around the living room.
Her stomach turned as she saw the shards of broken glass on the floor, and the small drops of blood. Beca’s blood.
She looked away, trying to find something to focus on that didn’t make her stomach turn.
Upstairs, Beca was standing in her room for what felt like the last time.
She didn’t know if she’d be able to be here when it was packed up. When decisions were made about what to keep, what to sell, and what to throw away. She didn’t even know what would happen to the stuff that would be kept. She didn’t even know where her Mom was planning on living after rehab.
She felt that ache of sadness in her chest again, and she sat down on her bed.
She didn’t know how she was going to get through this.
It felt like she’d been sitting there for a long time before she finally heard the stairs creaking.

“ are you okay with me staying the night? “ from the prompt list 😊
So I'm not gonna lie, this one completely got away from me haha
Usually, when I'm writing prompts, I don't have a solid plan and I just start writing and see what happens and, well, this happened.
It's long and heavy with some angst thrown in for good measure.
Thank you for sending this prompt, I think I liked what I wrote, and honestly wouldn't be opposed to a part 2.
Trigger warnings: abuse, alcoholism

“Are… are you sure you’re okay with me staying the night?” Beca asked, looking up as Chloe entered the room. “It’ll just be for one night, I promise. My Mom should have cooled off by tomorrow.”
“Bec, you can stay as long as you want,” Chloe said, sitting beside her on the edge of the bed. “You know that. You know you’re always welcome here.”
Beca swallowed and nodded, but didn’t trust her voice not to break when she spoke, so she didn’t say anything else.
Chloe placed her hand on Beca’s arm and gave it a soft squeeze, frowning when Beca winced at the contact.
“Beca-”
“It’s nothing,” Beca said, quickly, pulling her arm away.
“Beca. Did… did something happen?” Chloe asked, reaching out for Beca’s hand again.
“N-no,” Beca said, standing, moving away from the bed. “It was my fault. I… this was a mistake, I should go home.”
“No,” Chloe said, also standing. “Please don’t go. I don’t want you to go back there.”
“She didn’t do anything,” Beca said, hesitating as she stood by the door. “It was my fault.”
“Okay,” Chloe said. “Okay. But… it doesn’t matter whose fault it is, if you’re hurt, then we need to do something about it.”
“I’m fine,” Beca said. “It’s fine.”
“I could get my Mom to take a look? You know, ‘cause she’s a doctor?”
Beca nodded, blinking back tears.
“Okay,” Chloe said. “I’ll, um, I’ll go speak to her. It’s gonna be okay, Bec. Please… please don’t leave?”
“I won’t,” Beca said, sniffing, and then laughing. “I…” Beca swallowed. “I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
Chloe pulled her into a hug. “Come on.”
Helen Beale was sitting at the kitchen table, working on her laptop with a mug of tea when Chloe approached her.
“Mom?”
She looked up from her laptop to her seventeen-year-old daughter, and then looked past her to her daughter’s best friend.
Beca had spent more time at her house than she could count, but she always looked apologetic for being there. Like she was scared of intruding. She was always trying to make herself seem smaller. As if she could disappear if she tried hard enough.
“You girls okay?” Helen asked.

bechloe week day 1: sneaking around

Five times Beca treated Chloe’s injuries…

“How did you skin your knee? Are you ten?” Beca asked, her voice bordering on incredulous as she watched Chloe wincing as she picked out bits of gravel from the grazed skin.
“I was trying to get to the ice cream truck before he drove away,” Chloe said as if that was perfectly reasonable.
“So closer to seven years old than ten,” Beca said. “Why does the ice-cream truck even come here, this is a college campus. We’re literally surrounded by fraternity and sorority houses.”
“I think he sells weed too,” Chloe said. “Allegedly.”
“Oh well if I’d known that I’d have chased him down too,” Beca said, frowning as Chloe continued to pick at her knee. ”Do we have a first aid kit?”
“Kitchen probably,” Chloe said. Beca stood and headed for the kitchen. “I don’t think I need first aid.”
Beca returned holding the small plastic box in one hand, and a popsicle in the other.
“We literally have ice cream in the freezer,” Beca said, taking a seat on the coffee table opposite where Chloe was sitting. She batted Chloe’s hand out of the way of her knee and handed her the popsicle.
“It’s not the same,” Chloe said with a pout.
“You’re right, it’s significantly cheaper,” Beca said.
“I was trying to support a small business. If we don’t use the ice cream truck he might stop coming here altogether!”
Beca let out a snort of laughter. “Oh my god, you’re adorable.”
She took an antiseptic wipe from the box and shot Chloe an apologetic look before she cleaned the graze on her knee.
“Ow!” Chloe said, hitting Beca’s arm on instinct.
“Thank you for that,” Beca said. “Eat your popsicle.”
“Eat your popsicle,” Chloe repeated in a childish voice. Beca raised her eyebrows at her. “Sorry,” she said.
Beca stuck a bandaid on Chloe’s knee before shutting the box and making a move to stand.
“Ahem,” Chloe said, gesturing down at her knee.
“Yes?”
“Aren’t you going to kiss it better?”
Beca rolled her eyes but couldn’t help but smile. She pressed a quick kiss to the bandaid and stood up.
“Thank you!” Chloe called after her as Beca returned the first aid box to the kitchen.
