the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

Don't Starve is a great game if you played Stardew Valley and had the thought, "this is fun, but I hate how it relaxes and comforts me!"

I started playing Don't Starve Together after that when my wife started playing it #I've been playing Shipwrecked which is a DLC of Don't Starve and I have died so many times but I keep turning the game off in time #so basically I'm unkillable #until I fuck up so badly that I lose like all my extra lives rapidly and in a row. which has happened. the game senses my hubris. #on the upside when you get a game over in the original Don't Starve you unlock new characters. it's very clever that way.

I think the thing that really got me about Down Bad is that it's a lot like the flip side of what Jack talks about with August; rather than August, which sounds intensely dreamy and sparkling yet IS about something so real August can't quite comprehend it, Down Bad is about getting swept up and swept away, it is the unreality of going above and beyond the world and coming back down again.

What made and makes August so precious to me is that it's very much the story of someone who has been changed utterly and who now knows she gets to live with that change and is so glad for it; but in an equal and opposite way I love that Down Bad is about that upset and terror of coming out blinking from some sheer magic and not knowing what to do with yourself anymore now that you know it has forever passed you on. The anger! Yes, the absolute petulance because how dare you show me the light of the world from up above, then leave me here to walk through these dark days never to lay eyes on that again! It's just so endearing to me and I love her.

I keep playing around with this post-game idea for Mercy where she stays in the Commonwealth, rather than wandering off like she normally does after a few months, & having her set up some sort of clinic for specialized services. She'd obviously offer standard medical care(albeit more ghoul-centric than other Commonwealth medical providers), medical supplies, chems, and she'd get into medical implants and probably some induced mutations as well.

I also think it'd be fun to let her play around with syringers at some point, and letting her make new experimental darts and maybe even offering those for sale when she decides they're consistent enough. She'd drag Reed, and potentially a few others, into doing field trials for those since her vision and long distance aim aren't the greatest.

I'm including a few screenshots here since I've been exploring potential locations where she could set up shop like this, and of course she's going to have all kinds of herbs and whatnot growing in the surrounding area/greenhouse/etc so she has a reliable source of supplies. These are from the Coastal Cottage build where I made this sick ass fungi cave under the house

Today's mood: incredibly salty about the existence of "Booby Tape".

As in, the brand. The global multimillion dollar brand. "The world's first breast lift tape!" Because it's literally just kinetic tape. It's not wider, it's not anything, it just comes in a range of skin colors.

Oh, and it costs at least three times as much.

The part that really drives me up the wall is going through their FAQ, though.

"The secret with Booby Tape is all in the adhesive! It's formulated to hold the heaviest of breasts with a super strong grip!" It's kinetic tape.

"The key feature of Booby Tape is that it comes in a roll and you can cut your own length according to measure to minimise wastage." Yeah, it's kinetic tape.

"There is no latex or zinc oxide in Booby Tape. Booby Tape is made from a combination of cotton and nylon and the adhesive is acrylic." IT'S KINETIC TAPE.

What's even worse is that they only "recommend using nipple covers before applying Booby Tape as an extra precaution to sensitive nipples". Like dude. Do not apply tape directly to your nipples. Do NOT. Use a band-aid, or a folded handkerchief. Anything.

As for removal - "Booby Tape will come off easily if you peel your tape off gently and carefully", except their actual how-to guides tell you to soak it ("and we mean soak!") in their special "Booby Tape Remover".

Which, you guessed it, is just a 24€ bottle of oil.
