Nolo Pasaro - Nolo is in charge of picking the movies- assuming whatever big ass van they renovated comes with one of those little movie player things. Who am I kidding- these guys probably would have just installed one if it didn’t come stock. Unfortunately, Nolo’s movie choices are always pretty predictable. It’s either going to be one of the now TEN Fast and Furious movies, Pacific Rim, Transformers, or The Losers. That being said, Nolo DOES take bribes. Vert once washed his car for a week just so they could watch Surfs Up.

Vert Wheeler - Speaking of Vert, he’s the snack guy! At first, he gathered up everyone’s requests a few days before they got on the road, but now he practically has everyone’s snack preferences memorized. Let it be known that he takes this job very seriously. He genuinely goes out of his way to ensure everyone’s got at least one or two things to munch on. That’s also why he starts shopping a few days out from the actual trip, so that way if he has to run by different stores, or cut up fruit and divide them up into little ziplock bags he’s got enough time to do it. I also like to imagine at some point Jack comes home early from one of his missions and sees his son just surrounded by a shit ton of food like “are we doomsday prepers now??? What the hell is going on???”

Shirako Takamoto - I feel like I don’t even have to say it, but I’m going to anyway. Shirako is the DJ. Like Vert, he is very serious about this role. He starts curating a playlist as soon as he knows a road trip is going to happen. It doesn’t matter if he’s learning about it months in advance, he starts on it immediately. Despite always having headphones on and seemingly vibing in his own little world most of the time, Shirako is an astounding listener. He never fails to add the perfect mix of everyone’s favorite songs to the playlist. Not only that, but he has it sectioned out by hour. He wants to make sure whatever music they have playing, whether it be background noise for group conversations, or loud sing along sessions, it’s perfect!

Kurt Wylde - Spoilers for Karma, but they’re the two drivers. They work in shifts, switching off every few hours to (1) make sure they’re making the best time and (2) prevent any unnecessary road fatigue. Kurt is also practically the group big brother, so before any trip he’s sending everyone checklists to make sure they don’t forget anything. It’s ridiculous how in-depth they are. Obviously, he trusts them to fulfill their individual road trip roles but he’s on their asses for literally anything else. They’ll be ready to go at like 4am- everyone’s tired asf and he’s going around like “wallets? phones? chargers? toothbrushes???” making sure they didn’t forget any last minute items.

Karma Eiss - Like you read for Kurt, she is one of the designated drivers. On top of that though she is also the group navigator. She has like Waze levels of finding the best routes. With her at the helm, they’re able to make a 12 hour drive in a fraction of the time. Karma also has his uncanny ability to pick the best rest stops. Want to use the restroom but also take a quick breather in a nice scenic area? Good thing Karma was able to find the most beautiful truck stop you’ve ever seen with the cleanest bathroom ever. It’s honestly a little scary.

Bonus Round

Brian Kadeem - With Kadeem, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. When this guy road trips, he ROAD TRIPS. What I mean by that is you will be stopping at just about every cite to stop and smell the roses. It doesn’t matter if it’s some tacky tourist trap or one of the seven wonders of the world, he wants to see it, learn about it, and appreciate it. And if anyone one deserves to be able to relax a little, it’s Kadeem. Let this man enjoy his goofy little side quests. Especially, cause he ends up finding the greatest hole in the wall places to stop at too.

Banjee Castillo - Banjee quite literally never runs out of energy, so you HAVE to give this guy something to do or he will be miserable the entire ride. Thankfully, he is absurdly versatile. Obviously, his preferred role is to be in the drivers seat, but when he is not doing that he is the king of road trip games. 21 questions, I spy, and trivia are child’s play compared to the shit that Banjee brings to the table. Don’t get him wrong, he loves the classics, but they get old pretty fast on long road trips so he’s had to get creative in the past. It’s not uncommon for there to be three games going on at once half way through the drive. Usually two “spot em” games like Punch Buggies & Cows on my Side, and one actual game like Mafia or Song Quizzes.

Thanks For The Memories

Summary: As long as Vert, Kurt, and Wylde are stopped on the side of the highway, anyway... a couple of old friends decide to make themselves known. There's unfinished business all around, and it's better to do this now than three hours from now, right? After all, they never really had a good chance to talk between everything with the Silencerz, dealing with the rest of the Drones, and racing the Accelerons.

    Get in the car, Wylde said, abandoning all whining pretense about being ousted from the driver’s seat. We got trouble, Wylde confirmed, shielding Vert from the sleek, purple on silver car–appeared as if from nowhere.

   Several long moments passed – a standoff – until a figure finally stepped out of the vehicle.

   Banjee.  

  Hands raised, no Silencerz uniform to be seen–an improvement from the last time they’d seen him–the former World Race driver tried to smile his way through the tension. Courteous of Wylde’s protective stance, he approached slowly. Nothing in his hands. Vert childishly peeked around Wylde as the Metal Maniac’s posture slowly loosened, acquiescing to a sigh. Couldn’t say he entirely trusted the situation, but Banjee Castillo was a friendly face. He was familiar, anyway, and that was good enough for his ward (who was, perhaps, more enthusiastic. Banjee was a much better surprise than his father calling).

   Kurt joined the small gathering of onlookers just in time to catch Vert call out to their impromptu visitor– Banjee? –and duck past his brother. He leaned against the open passenger door, sparing Mark a sympathetic glance. Well, what could they do? Stop him? There was just enough room between them and the Silencerz car now that, hey, they still had a fighting chance even if this was somehow a trap. Though, even Mr. Trust-Issues himself wasn’t so sure about that one.

  “Hey, hey – woah there, amigo. You’re goin’ way over the speed limit,” Banjee chuckled, ruffling spiky blond hair as soon as it was in range. He couldn’t resist. No matter how old Vert got, Banjee would always remember him as the crazy, little surf rat who showed everyone else up (affectionate). “Sorry for the scare, but this is the only car I’ve got. Don’t worry, though. I broke the camera when I left.”

   He winked–though Vert nearly missed it, face scrunching upon contact–their secret was safe with him. Appreciated, probably, but–! Not a kid. Yet, fixing his disheveled hairdo would have to wait til later; there were far more pressing matters at hand.

  “What are you doing out here, Banjee?” Vert asked, fussing with the few locks that were now officially in his face. “Don’t tell me–”

    Another voice and the sound of a car door slamming shut broke Vert’s concentration. It wasn’t from the Mustang. He didn’t even need to turn around to know that. Hell, even if he was blind in one eye and couldn’t see out the other, Vert would understand perfectly well who was talking. It wasn’t like they’d known each other nearly their entire lives or anything. He gawked, blindsided by the perfectly neat cornrows and winning smile of another friend walking toward them.

   “Nah, Vert.. I mean, yeah, we followed you out, but we did that on our own.” Alec waved – half to Vert, half to the Wylde brothers still casually standing guard by the other car (Kurt returned a half-assed wave). What a sight this was. Kinda nice, though. Yet, he couldn’t help lookin’ the driver formerly known as Markie up and down a few times–damn–and not just because he didn’t wave back. He’d heard through the grapevine that Markie had changed since they’d last met, but this was more than just a little bit, huh.

   Wylde raised a brow. Dare you to say something.

  Meanwhile, Vert hardly said Alec’s name out loud before Banjee cut in, “He’s right – and pretty smart, too. He must’ve been the first person in the whole base to figure out what was goin’ on. ‘Course, Alec doesn’t even have a car, so he came an’ got me.”

   Something he seemed awfully proud of, jutting his thumb right back at himself. Then again, Banjee had the means, an adventurous spirit, and unfinished business. Everything worked out. Besides, who else would’ve been willing to sneak a classified military vehicle out of the Silencerz base just to chase after a few of their friends? Surely, not anyone Alec could think of – not anyone who already had the keys, anyway. That part was maybe the most important. Everything else was smooth sailing when your car could become invisible. Undetectable.

   “Yeah, sorry we never really gotta chance to talk, Vert, but your dad grounded me.” Alec supplemented, pointing and then placing a hand over his chest for emphasis and mock offense. “I could barely say hi without needing approval… ‘cause unlike Banjee, the moment I found out Jack was under that helmet? I knew I couldn’t do that to ya, Vert. You got enough issues.”

  No offense to either of them, of course, and very little taken. It was nice to see him, nice to know that he hadn’t been one of the drivers impersonating his teammates, and–well–Banjee wasn’t so easily ashamed. Still, Vert scoffed, needling his best friend with just a little sarcasm. As a treat. “Yeah, thanks Alec… so I guess that’s also why you never told me you were working for Tezla again?”

  “Hey, I figured he was gonna call you eventually,” Alec defended. “Besides, it’s not often I get the one-up on you anymore, Mr. Fancy Street-Racer. But by the time I thought about it too hard…”

   Grounded. Right. Lost in the realms and found by the Silencerz. Fair enough. Vert obliged with a thoughtful head tilt.

  “We both got lost. Not our brightest moment, amigo.” Somehow, Banjee hadn’t learned from the Short-Cut Incident – or maybe he’d just forgotten. On purpose. “Though, Es must’ve already left before Tezla called you guys… pretty sure she would have been happy to agree with me there.”

   Esmeralda wasn’t with the Silencerz and she definitely wasn’t like Kadeem. It occurred to Banjee then that he should have asked Tezla for her number before they left. Oh well, he still had to return his car, anyway. No way the Silencerz would let’m keep it. So, he put a pin on that thought for later – as did Vert, who was really trying his best not to think very hard about the other drivers Tezla hadn’t told them about. Again. They could unpack that later. Luckily, Alec chimed in to save them all from falling down that rabbit hole.

   “Aaanyway, if you guys don’t mind a little more company, I’ve got family in the same direction you’re goin…” Yes, no? Actually, never mind, he knew the right answer: carry on like he owned the place. Besides, Alec needed to give Markie a big, friendly clap on the shoulder. Vert wasn’t the only Wave Ripper he hadn’t seen in a while, and while Wylde might be bigger than he remembered? He was still Markie. Probably. The metal arm was an interesting addition. First, however, Alec finished his thought, “So, I’ll let Banjee say his piece, so we can peace.”

   As he strolled by, Alec gave Vert a far gentler pat-pat than what he planned for Markie. The force required was directly proportional to size, after all. It was only logical. Yet, while they fussed in the background, Banjee and Vert had the floor all to themselves. Kurt, meanwhile, couldn’t decide who to pay attention to–his little brother or his… other, littler brother. He’d figure it out eventually. For now, all actors were set.

   “Alright, so… what’s up?” Vert asked with an astounding sense of deja vu. It was a warm feeling. “Y’know, you never actually answered my question.”

    “Well.. truth is, Vert, I just hated to let you guys go without squaring things first.” Banjee glanced over to Mark and Kurt. Yes, that included the two brothers–more or less. Some more than less. Although, the specifics on who he owed and how much was something Banjee was taking to his grave. He shook his head, amused by the sight of Alec Wood in a headlock. Sure hoped that was playful, because he didn’t have the focus to spare if it wasn’t.

   (It was)

   “You know, they had me do some things I’m not too proud of… ey, I dunno if Tezla’s any less crazy, but maybe Alec had the right idea.” Just not about poking the wild bear. He’d escaped the headlock, but at what cost? For, despite Banjee’s best efforts to keep his eyes on Vert, he couldn’t help but notice Wylde grabbing Alec like a sad kitten and thrusting him into the backseat. A job well done. Maybe. Well, it made Kurt’s life easier. Now there really was only his littlest brother to pay attention to (welcome to the no-fun-allowed zone, Alec).

   “So, uhh.. sorry for being a troublemaker. Next time we race, it’ll be the right way,” Banjee said, refocusing. “–and if you’re ever in Puerto Rico, give me a shout. I’d love to show you my world – bring some friends and we’ll have a real party.”

   Vert liked the sound of that.

   No hard feelings, only more friends. A bigger family.

Hot Wheels: New races, new drivers

Chapter 3 : Mari's first race

(some parts were based from the comics, which I think their track its the 'Jungle terrain', starts with chapter 11 and you will understand)

The 35 drivers got into their cars and they stood at the starting point, one after one, side by side, the cars are organized vertically and horizontally in a perfect line. Mari is inside of her Mercy Breaker (NOT TONO'S CAR!! Search on google, it really exists), she is behind Skeet, a member from the Roadbeasts team, and she is beside with Ricky Bell, a teammember from her team.

She took a deep breath and concetrated on the traffic light, the red light turned into yellow, and then the yellow light turned into green. Time to go. The drivers pressed their foot on the pedal and they went straight, Banjee Castillo, the leader of the Roadbeasts, pressed the red button and the Nitrox 2 made his car go faster.

"HEEEEYAAAH! I'll never get tired of this!" yelled Banjee while his car is tilted in the air because of the booster.

Taro, Kurt, Vert and Kadeem used the Nitrox 2 too to get faster into the portal, Dan Dresden warned Mari.

"You need more speed to get into the portal, use the Nitrox 2 booster, Mari" said Dresden

"okay" responded Mari, she pressed the red button too and her car went 300 mph, she held her breath for a minute and her grip on the steering wheel got thigh, a giant portal could be seen at the end of the desert.

Banjee was the first to enter through the portal, as he got there, he landed on a curve which took him by surprise.

"woah! Watch out for the first curve, amigos, at least if you got wind!" warned Banjee After him, a lot of drivers came out of the portal together which almost every driver bumped their cars on the first curve, Mari's eyes widen and tried not hitting Taro's car, but she bumped it accidentaly.

"Oh- sorry!" Mari apologized to Taro while driving ahead

"don't apologize to the team's leader rival" commanded Kurt through the comms

Kurt was too ahead that he left his own team behind. Mari followed Dan Dresden, Ricky Bell and the whole Street Breed team on the cliffside tracks until they see 2 tracks divided in a loop.

"look! Hope we don't crash at each other" said Mari 

Dan Dresden, Bart Scampi and Maximo went to the left side while Mari, Ricky Bell and San Jay Khan went to the right side, luckily none of them crashed at each other during the loop, but when they were about to jump from the ramp to another track, Maximo and Mari bumped their cars' sides and they landed not in a perfect way, making their vehicles skid, turning around and stopping in an inverted position.

"watch out, chica! You want to kill us?" asked Maximo while cursing at Mari

"I'm sorry, it's just-- I got nervous with the jump" answered Mari

"Maximo, calm down. It's her first race, it's normal for the rookies getting nervous during their first race" said Dan Dresden 

"Whatever" Maximo puffed

"guys, we need to be going, our leader isn't responding us" said San Jay Khan

The team started driving again and they noticed they are been followed by the Dune Ratz and Scorches team, their leaders are behind them. Mari is being pursued by a Dune Rat team's member called Toni Berry, a Toyota RSC female driver. Toni accelerated her car and pushed her front on Mari's Mercy Breaker from the behind, Mari felt the bump inside of her car and almost lost control behind the wheel, but she hold on tight the steering wheel. She sees her rearview mirror and noticed that the Toyota RSC isn't behind her anymore, it's by her left side.

"you Street Breed people are always pretentious just like your leader" said Toni Berry

"well I just met him before this race so I don't know very much about him" nervously chuckling, Mari said to Toni through the comms 

"ugh... shame"

Toni hit Mari's car, trying to make the girl lose control again, Mari presses her lips while looking at Toni's Toyota RSC, so she does the same thing that the rival did. They got distracted fighting while the rest of the teams passed them. The two ladies were about to hit at each other's cars again until Taro Kitano and Kadeem passed them so fast that Toni and Mari dodged.

"what was that?" asked Mari to herself

Another car came passing them, it was a Wave Rippers car, following Kadeem and Taro. The Street Breed girl followed straight ahead and noticed a bunch of cars from the Dune Ratz, one from Street Breed and some from the Scorches in the middle and almost out of the track.

"Dan, what happened here?" asked Mari through the comms

"I tried to do the pursuit intervention technique and everything went wrong, you can go without me, go with the rest of our team, the other teams are way ahead, I'll be right behind you" ordered

Dresden and Mari nods. Maximo leads the Street Breed into a tunel inside of a montain, and in it, the track divides in 2 sides, Mari followed Maximo while San Jay followed Bart, the two sides leaded straight ahead until they go over a ramp, all of them accelerated and jump, Ricky, Maximo and San Jay made a stunt during the jump, but Mari was the only one who didn't. And they landed perfectly. No one got hurt.

"Thank God you didn't made a stunt, have you imagined what would happened to us?" asked Maximo refering to Mari

"Maximo!" San Jay called, his patience started to overflow Mari started to feel shame for herself, maybe her brother was right after all. She is very clumsy for racing, but she holds back tears and took a deep breath. Dan Dresden finally reached them and they were driving together.

The background with a lot of mountains started to tremble like an earthquake, stones from mountains were colapsing, massive strange explosions, they came out of nowhere. Speaking of 'out of nowhere', suddenly Kurt's Slingshot came out jumping from a mountain's ramp and landed in front of the team.

"Looks like you got into a trouble" said Kurt

"where have you been?" asked Bart

"I took a shortcut which is that purple track and then I found out it was a very long way to the first place" Kurt responded, which is a lie

"ugh, and now we are so far behind" exclaimed Maximo

Maximo grunted and looked at Mari, and the girl only looked to the other side just to avoid his death glare. She thought 'why he is lookin' at me like that?', it didn't take 1 race and she is being a target of rude criticism not only from Kurt, but also from Maximo. Being honest, this isn't the first when she is underestimated, a few people from her own family didn't trusted her knowledge, her capacity for doing things for her own, she is just waiting for the time to prove they are wrong... If this never happen...

"Guys, check it out!  A cave entrance in the mountainside!" Bart informed while pointing the entrance

"Good catch, Shrimp" Kurt tries to give a compliment

"Bart hates that nickname, Kurt" said San Jay Khan

There were golden statues built by the Accelerons, Bart couldn't stop thinking about of maybe there would be treasures inside the cave.

"Hey, check out these golden statues, are these real gold?" asked Bart amazed by the statues

"LOOK OUT!" Mari shouted while the cave's stones started to fall 

The cave started to collapse too like the mountains and the Street Breed team wasted no time and they accelerated before the cave closes. But the problem is--

"Ricky Bell got trapped, what should we do?" Mari asked hoping they didn't get mashed in the cave

"Did 'Shrimp' help him? He couldn't stop talking about the statues" Kurt didn't sound worried

"we need to help them!"

"guys, look! It's coming from the rocks" said San Jay Khan Suddenly, Bart got out of the rocks while holding Ricky, they didn't seemed okay, like- a cave just collapsed on them. Mari got out of her car to help her teammates, she extends her hand to pull Ricky and help them to stand up.

She notices that their cars didn't get smashed by the rocks, they are indeed irrestible to high damage. After this life and death situation, Kurt leads the team until the finish line, they saw a portal, the finish line. They used the Nitrox 2 booster and passed it. They didn't get a first place like Kurt did alone last time in another track, but at least they got out of there alive. The question that appeared in most of their minds is: where did that earthquake came from?

When the brazilian girl is about to go back to Tezla's HQ, she saw more cars comming out of the portal, two teams. They were the Roadbeasts and Wave Rippers, they were the last ones. Mari watched the young teammembers from the Wave Rippers team getting out of their cars and giving a good job at each other even tho they didn't get neither a first place nor a second place, she saw Vert Wheeler, the blondie boy who has 16 years old getting out of the Deora II and she felt something familiar with him. Doctor Peter Tezla reunited all the 35 drivers inside of his H.Q informing the results of the race, he said that the next day in the morning will have another race and gives hope to the drivers to give 5 million dollars for a driver along with the teammates who will get the Wheel of the Power.

"Now get some rest. You'll need it" Tezla finished the reunion

Dan Dresden walked with San Jay Khan towards Mari, who was making some adjustments inside of her car.

"hey, Mari" Dresden called and she already stood up

"Dan..." there was a silence between them, "I'm very sorry. I'm not the good driver as you expected, maybe Kurt was right" Mari looked down with disappointed face

"hey, don't be like that. It was your first race, and I didn't know that Maximo would act like Kurt. San Jay told me everything..." Dresden informed

The girl closed her eyes and looked to her right side while her long hair hides her face, Dan Dresden felt sad for her and tried to think of something to cheer her up.

"look, why don't you take some rest like Dr. Tezla commanded? Sleeping late at night isn't very good for health" She nods.

The members of her team left her with her car, she decided to take some fresh air before rest, she closed the car's doors and accidentally bumped into someone. She looks up and it is a boy from the Wave Rippers.

"Oh- careful there" he said

"sorry" Mari apologized as she put her hair behind her ear

"hey I know you"

"I don't think so" Mari got confused

"you look kinda- Yo, Vert! Come here" he called and a blondie boy came

The boy whose name is Vert came towards Mari and Alec

"sup Alec, what is it?" Vert asked

"does she look familiar?" Alec grabbed Mari's shoulders from behind

Seeing Vert up close made Mari finally remember, he is the same school as her, she is studying at California, but they aren't in the same class. They don't even talk to each other, but she once saw him with Alec and his friend group in front of school after classes. Mari doesn't have all of friends like Vert has, bunch of teenagers came to her only to ask questions, not to make friendship.

After some time of think, a thought finally hit them

"ohhh, now I remember" said Vert "you're Luan's young sister, the famous driver from Brazil, I'm Vert Wheeler by the way. Leader of the Wave Rippers"

Okay, she would be lying if she says that she wasn't expecting that because that's one of two reasons why most of teenagers only went to her to ask questions. If wasn't because of him, her mother, her father or even she wouldn't be there at California, all thanks to Luan's fame. She started to feel that she is her older brother's shadow, but she doesn't keep any rage for her brother, actually, she feels happy for him.

"yeaahhh... that's me. Luan's younger sister" Mari faked her smile

"dude, your brother has an amazing skills, it's a shame that he needed to retire for a while" Vert happily said catching Mari when he called her 'dude'

"my brother always liked the racing and I should be taking care of him, but another person took my place to do it" Mari said in a honest way 

"hah! No wonder Kurt choose you, you must have greatest skills as Luan's" 

"Actually... I always wanted to try racing like him, but he never allowed me, he always says I'm very 'clumsy', but here I am"

She awkwardly smiled at them while Vert and Alec exchanged glances, they actually don't know what to say after what Mari has declared.

"but I wish you and your team a good luck for tomorrow's race. Because I ruined my team's race today. Some of them already hates me" Mari said while scratching the back of her neck and sighs

Vert and Alex noticed Mari's sad face so Vert signs Alec that they'll leave her

"oh hey" Vert said "how about a race between me and you after the oficial race? Just to see if you are good or bad"

"wait-- Really? What makes you think that I'll accept this offer?" Mari asked

"because I know the feeling of being underestimated. Trust me. You, me and Markie are not taken seriously only because of our age" Vert confesses and before he is about to leave, "you and Lani would make good friends tho. See you at the race tomorrow. You. Will. Lose" and he finally goes away while smiling, leaving a shocked Mari standing beside her car.

She smiled, finally another person instead of Dan Dresden who respects her and at the same time having this funny competition spirit, at least in her vision. Her expression turned into a confident one while thinking 'let's see then, Vert Wheeler'.

Nolo Pasaro - Nolo likes to pretend he’s not scared. He’s slick about it too! He’ll sit there teasing whoever he’s watching the movie with, pointing out how scared they are before inevitably offering to let them cuddle up next to him so that he can “keep them safe.” Of course this is all a ploy to have someone to cling too when the scary parts pop up. 100% the type of guy to pull the whole “I wasn’t scared it just surprised me!” Line.

Vert Wheeler - Vert was one of those kids that ALWAYS begged to watch horror movies then when he was finally allowed to, it kept him up for days. That set the precedent. He literally hasn’t changed a bit. The group wants to watch Final Destination? He’s so down but he will scream at the jump scares and hide his head in a blanket when the suspense gets to be too much. Whoever he’s next to is about to get jumped all over too. Seriously, be prepared for Vert to grab on and not let go lmao.

Shirako Takamoto - LOVES horror movies, but like in the way where he wants to know all the behind the scenes stuff! Practical effects are his JAM! Frequents the Dead Meat Kill Counts on YouTube. Sometimes he will literally watch the Kill Counts BEFORE he sees the actual movie. The dude is so focused on the story and the way stuff is filmed that he’s barely even scarred. Occasionally he’ll jump if there’s a well timed jump scare, but most of the time he’s just glued to the screen.

Kurt Wylde - Kurt loves a good horror movie! He doesn’t really get super scared or anything so he’d be the perfect one to cuddle up next to. Really enjoys horror classics. Think the original THING or even the first SCREAM movie. He’ll watch newer stuff every once in a while, but only if it’s not a remake. He rarely ever enjoys remakes, but he has been pleasantly surprised by stuff like Cabin in the Woods and Ready or Not.

Karma Eiss - Like Shirako she LOVES horror movies! Unlike Shirako it’s more for the actual movie than for the behind the scenes stuff. That being said, she will listen to him point out random fact about whatever they’re watching. This woman is stone cold- she doesn’t flinch!!! Even so, she lives for the paranormal and psychological horrors. Her favorites are Hereditary and Midsommar. That being said, she also doesn’t mind stuff like the Saw series or Final Destination.

Brian Kadeem - Kadeem is the type to laugh like a manic while watching horror movies. Not because he finds them funny or anything- but because he’s laughing at everyone’s reactions. ESPECIALLY if it’s a group movie night and Vert is there. He’s the type to scare someone and then immediately apologize and pull them into a hug while cackling. Kadeem is a big fan of horrors with a comedy element. He was the one to recommend Cabin in the Woods & Ready or Not to Kurt.

Banjee Castillo - Shrieks and then immediately starts laughing when he gets scared. He loves watching horror movies but sorta like Vert, he will be jumpy as shit for the next few days. Loves to scare people during group watches- but then inevitably he ends up getting scared too. He’ll be like “guys I swear I just heard knocking!” And then someone will agree and he instantly starts backtracking and holding on to people like “WHAT REALLY?”

I was trying to think of an IC explanation for why Tezla contacted Alec Wood, Banjee Castillo, Brian Kadeem, and Dan Dresden before someone like, say, Vert -- who WON the World Race.

and then I realised. They're uh... they're alphabetical. By given name, anyway. The only one who doesn't fit the pattern is Lani, but she's also not a driver. She's more like his SiC & I think it's reasonable enough that she might've been contacted first -- for her skills as a mechanic.

Nolo Pasaro - Nolo loves theme parks! He rarely ever went to any as a kid- always using the money he saved up to help buy parts for either Tone’s car or what would be his own as soon as he was old enough to drive. It was nice because by the time he got his license, he pretty much had the beginnings of a great streetcar, but in doing so, he also missed out on some regular kid stuff. He didn’t mind though. Going to meets with Tone and feeling the car surge forward and drift around was about as much fun as a theme park anyway. That being said, Nolo still loves rides! Especially, the ones that are known for being “high adrenaline.” Stuff that goes upside down, backwards, free falls. Basically anything that gets his blood pumping!

Vert Wheeler - Vert loves theme parks for the opposite reasons that Nolo loves them. Because Jack was always out on missions, he would end up missing Vert’s big milestones. To make up for it, he would take Vert to his favorite theme park when he rotated home to celebrate. It quickly became a tradition. So now, going to theme parks always scratches that nostalgia itch for him. Also like Nolo, Vert is an adrenaline junky when it comes to riding rides. Any attraction that has a reputation for being fast paced and scary- he wants on. He is also the one to hype people up if they’re scared to go on a ride.

Shirako Takamoto - Shirako is all about those Defunctland videos!! Late at night, when he’s updating his website or searching for good deals on parts, he’ll have music AND a video essay playing in the background. Overstimulated King. Usually, it’s just something mind numbing, but occasionally he’ll actually stop what he’s doing to watch through the rest of the video if something interesting pops up. Shirako, as always, just knows a bunch of random shit about whatever theme part they’re at because of all the videos he’s gone through. He enjoys rollercoasters. Not as much as Nolo or Vert, especially cause they make him take his headphones off before the ride for safety reasons, but he still likes the adrenaline rush.

Kurt Wylde - Kurt carries the bag!!! Full on dad stance!! He’ll definitely ride some rides every once in a while, but he taps out after about two or three. This dude has had way too many gnarly crashes to be thrown around on some high speed, barely padded rollercoaster. He’ll still stand in line with everyone, or if they’re starting to get hungry, he’ll use the time to go grab everyone some food and a place to sit so they can just eat whenever they get off the ride. He also is 100% the type to make fun of someone for buying a stupid theme park souvenir while also doing the exact same thing.

Karma Eiss - Karma is also an adrenaline junky! However, once Kurt starts tapping out, she’ll alternate between waiting with him so he doesn’t just have to awkwardly stand alone at the exit, and riding with Shirako if the seats are set up in pairs. She knows the best times to go to each ride, and exactly what restaurants to go to to get the best food. She’s always the one planning. Even when the guys mix things up or want to do things out of order, she’s quick to adjust the plan to accommodate. It’s cheesy, but she always has the group take a picture together in front the best ride of the day as a memory.

Brian Kadeem - Oh, LOVES theme parks!! This dude is trying to ride every ride, try every snack, and overall just live his best life. It’s rare for him to get a break and get to visit a theme park, so when he does, he’s making the most out of it! Genuinely, this dude is a giant ray of sunshine who wants to make sure that everyone is having a great time. Kadeem is also that one dude who is cackling on every ride. He’s just so pumped to be there that it’s the only reaction he can have. Like Vert, if someone’s nervous to go on a ride, he’ll try to put them at ease before they get on!

Banjee Castillo - Banjee, my dear sweet adrenaline junky, is a menace to theme parks. Those rides that barely have a line because people are too scared to do them? Banjee is first in line, baby!! Not only that but he wants to ride them over and over again. He could almost put Vert and Nolo to shame. Almost. He also loves buying those stupid “I survived the _______” shirts that have the ride name on them. They’re so goofy, and he will literally put it on as soon as he buys them cause he thinks it’s hilarious. He’s also weirdly good at those rigged carnival games??? Like that dude will walk away from the park with some kind of ridiculously large plush that he won, it’s absurd.

Nolo Pasaro - Growing up, Nolo had a pack of Bicycle brand playing cards and a dream. Now, he can run a whole game night with nothing but that same pack of cards. In fact, he does it regularly. Poker, Rummy, War, you name it. He knows the rules like the back of his hand. His all time favorite however, is Spoons. No matter who’s playing, it always gets absurdly intense. He loves watching everyone scramble to snatch a spoon when a suit of four is thrown down. The Teku are definitely intense, but it only gets worse when the rivalry between them and the Metal Maniac turns friendly, and they start getting invited to join. On the other hand, watching Mark practically throw himself over the table in an effort to snatch a spoon before his brother could grab one has got to be one of the funniest things he’s ever witnessed.

Very Wheeler - Skate 3 connoisseur. Vert fucking LOVES Pictionary. Like I don’t know to explain to y’all how hard this dude laughs watching people’s interpretations of what the original prompt was devolve into sometimes completely unrelated or ridiculous. Vert has even taken to throwing in some of his own prompts just to mix the game up a bit. For example- “Worlds Greatest Driver” was a prompt that Kurt got to start with. Obviously, he drew a stick figure version of himself. Mark was right after him, so seeing the shitty stick version of his brother, he just wrote down “bastard.” It devolved further from there. Another fun one was when Banjee got the prompt “Fast & Furious” and forgot that the movies existed, so he just drew Taro under the pretense that he fit description.

Shirako Takamoto - Shirako is a master at Mario Party. It’s gotten to the point where it’s basically everyone vs. Shirako whenever they play. He’s just too good at all the mini games. They will actively try and sabotage him and it doesn’t even matter, he’ll still end the game with the most stars collected. He has the strats!!! On top of that, he’s also unusually good at Scrabble for some reason. People assume it has something to do with all the music he listens to, but really he just plays it online all the time, so when game night rolls around he just destroys everyone. Vert lost his mind when Shirako played the word “quixotic” once. He was convinced Shirako was just making up words for high scores, but lo and behold, they looked it up and it’s a legal word to play!

Kurt Wylde - King of pit maneuvering people off the track ironically enjoys the game Sorry. The joy he feels booting someone back to the start is only matched by the excitement he feels during a race. He literally is such a rude bastard (lovingly). He is 100% the type of player to always boot the same person back to start just to mess with them. In his mind, less competition means a better chance at winning. Uno is a very close second. He will legit sit on those +2 & +4 cards and just wait to ruin someone’s day. “Oh you’re about to call uno? Go ahead and pick up the whole deck.” Like Vert, he also takes some liberties with those ‘make your own rule’ cards. They’re always so targeted too. Stuff like ‘let Monkey drive your car or pick up 25 cards’ and ‘get Taro to talk for more than 5 minutes or swap a hands with who’s losing.”

Karma Eiss - Battleship baby!! She is the queen of strategy games especially when it comes to stuff that involves reading people. Like, by the time someone hits one of her ships, she’s usually got half their fleet wiped out. People have tells. The closer she is to whoever she’s playing with, the faster the game goes. Particularly with people who wear their hearts on their sleeves. Vert and Nolo are the easiest to beat by far. Vert always tries to laugh or talk about something else when Karma hits close to one of his ships and Nolo over compensates. Kurt’s a little harder to beat because he’s got a pretty good poker face, but Shirako is definitely the hardest. Due to him constantly just vibing, he’s nearly impossible to read.

Bonus Round

Brian Kadeem - Kadeem’s a big Jenga guy. It’s so simple, yet so fun. His favorite part is when the tower is getting ridiculous tall and precarious so anytime anyone reachers for a block everyone goes silent and tense, watching to see if they’ll be next person to knock it down. It helps that Kadeem has impressively steady hands too. Like, this dude could have been a doctor if he really wanted to. Twister comes in at a close second. I feel like Kadeem is pretty flexible so the game is more entertaining than it is challenging. He loves being the one to spin the wheel because it gives him time to cackle at his friends getting all twisted up. Seriously, halfway through the game when everyone’s practically stacked on top of each other, Kadeem is usually laughing so hard that he’s on the ground with them.

Banjee Castillo - Banjee is the literal king of Mario Cart. He loves it so much he will unironically put on the Coconut Mall theme song sometimes while he’s driving. He swears it makes him go faster. It definitely doesn’t, but don’t tell him that. Banjee always knows the best cart combos and where all the best short cuts are. He usually finishes WAY ahead of all the other drivers, which always leads to some light hearted banter about how he should be as good as he is in the game on the actual track. Sometimes, he will purposely hang back or false start so that way he can use items to mess with the other players. Red shells are the best but after hours of gameplay, Banjee has gotten deadly accurate with the green shells too. Nobody is safe.

Nolo Pasaro - I feel like Nolo is a side sleeper, but like he’s so far on his side that he’s practically on his stomach. The dude sleeps with exactly two pillows. One under his head, and the other under his arm on whatever side he’s sleeping on that night. Poor guy has frequent nightmares and on top of that he’s a light sleeper. He was basically programmed to wake up whenever he heard Tone’s car pulling into the driveway when he was a kid so that’s why he wakes up at the slightest sound now. He could be on the second floor of a house and hear footsteps coming from the basement and immediate be wide awake.

Vert Wheeler - VERT IS A HELICOPTER SLEEPER. He starts out neatly under the covers but as soon as he conks out, his arms are above his head and his legs are kicking the blankets off. Half the time he wakes up with at least one limb hanging off the side of the bed and pillows on the floor. It’s ridiculous. Unlike Nolo, he sleeps like the dead. Seriously you could probably set off an air horn next to him and he would barely move. Sleeps with a penguin squishmallow because it reminds him of the surfing penguins from Surfs Up.

Shirako Takamoto - Shirako is a BIG night owl! When he does finally get to sleep at like 3am, he’s got his LED lights on the lowest setting possible but they are still ON!!! He’s not afraid of the dark or anything he just likes the vibes. He swears up and down it helps him get into the “dream zone” quicker- not to mention the fact that he literally has a playlist labeled “The Dream Zone” that he plays at max volume. Was the one to get Vert the penguin plush because “It’s you, dude.”

Kurt Wylde - Full on stomach sleeper. Like almost to the point where he’s smothering himself because he’s just face down into the pillow. Absolutely needs ambient noise to fall asleep. Whether that be a loud fan, a rain machine, or just some light tunes, he just CANNOT sleep if it’s dead quiet. It gives him too much room to think about all the choices he regrets. All the things he should have done differently. Before the world race he used to not be able to sleep unless it was pitch black, now he has to sleep with a hall light on because he’s terrified Galorum is going to come back for him.

Karma Eiss - I’m basing this purely on the fact that I think Karma is some kind of clone of Galorum- but she sleeps straight as an arrow. Her bed is always neat. The way she goes to sleep is the way she wakes up. Definitely sleeps with one of those sleep masks to block out any light. She’s a light sleeper, but will fake being asleep if she thinks someone is actively trying to prove that she never sleeps LMAO. She ain’t sleeping she’s just uploading information to the cloud.

Bonus Round!

Brian Kadeem - Kadeem has a whole ass bedtime ritual. Sleep is very important to him. He can’t be leading his people as a sleep deprived zombie!! Every single night, he winds down with some easy yoga. It’s mostly just stretching, but it helps him relax and ease the tension out of his body. Then he’ll sit on the mat for about ten to fifteen minutes to meditate. Again, mostly just affirmations to get him into the sleeping mood and release any negativity he might have picked up during the day. Lastly, he makes himself a nice cup of tea before reading a few chapters in whatever recreational book he happens to be into at the time.

Banjee Castillo - Banjee is the definition of hyperactive. He’s always go, go, go. Cracking jokes, living life in the fast lane. He’s a daredevil. So, when this man sleeps, he crashes. He’s also a clinger. Usually keeps at LEAST three pillows on his bed because one of them will inevitably end up clutched to his chest halfway through the night. Like Kadeem- actually because of Kadeem- Banjee has taken to drinking tea at night too. He mentioned that he was having trouble winding down at night and Kadeem came to him an hour later with a handful of his favorite teas. At first Banjee was hesitant, stating that he’s more of a coffee guy, but after Taro almost strangled him during the World Race because their rooms shared a wall, he started brewing up a cup at least a half hour before he actually planned to lay down.
