Panya History - The Future

Last part in my Pidge/Anya history dump! This one is going to be vaguely about them instead of specifically about them because I really don't have plans for their future once they hit a specific milestone, their adventures don't ever stop, but things get a lot more serious <3

Parts: The Past, The Present, The Future (here)

Marriage doesn't exist on Balto, it almost goes against their beliefs. For Baltons, to have experiences is part of the experiment of living and marriage as many races know it, is forever bonding and unbreakable, sometimes even in the face of death. Being practically bound to a person for the rest of one's life doesn't really fit into the ideal image of experimentation that Baltons are so attached to. While long term relationships still exist, it's just out of someone's own volition to stick with their partner instead of having a legally binding document or something related to show that. Pidge and Anya didn't need that to be together, though being raised on Earth for long enough did put some ideas in Anya's head. She was happy where she was and didn't expect Pidge to comprise his own beliefs for her. And he didn't, but he liked the idea of something physical symbolizing his love for her, so he gave her a ring. The ring turned into paperwork, and that turned into a small wedding party to celebrate the union.

The paperwork was mostly precaution for Pidge, if something happened to him on the field, it'd be Anya who would take care of everything important, especially because his family was so far away. He didn't know what would get to him first, a lion switch or being injured on the field again. Turns out it was both. He always knew it was going to happen during a mission, but not exactly how, or where. While watching Larmina, who was on foot, in his lion, he always made sure to learn from her fights to better train her. This one in particular taught him that she needed more practice with feints, before he rushed out to protect her from a blow. He also learned that he needed to step up his training too and got injured from not being able to entirely block the blow. Now Larmina was mad, first she had to be protected, then Pidge got injured because of her mistake? She wasn't going to let it slide, or let their enemy get away. Pidge refused to back out either, but with both of them focusing on not making his injury worse, their target slipped past. With the adrenaline crashing, they saw he was in worse shape than they thought, and Larmina took over green once more before getting him to medical.

Medbay wouldn't let him fly again, not for a while at least, so Larmina was slotted in green in Pidge's place. She was excited, the last time she took over in a lion was a great experience for her, and Pidge never once doubted her abilities. But that didn't mean his fears of losing green were gone. Anya had noticed it got worse over time, but not being a pilot herself left her with little she could do, she was nothing more than a supportive presence. Lance, however, knew the feeling all too well, and Pidge only hesitated for a moment before venting his fear of losing the one thing he's known and trusted in for most of his life. Larmina had heard, and when Lance left after failing to lighten his mood, she thought she knew exactly how to help him. So she grabbed green's key and tossed it back to Pidge. She wasn't ready, she told him, she needed more flight training, more of every training to get to his level. To become someone like him, to really be a pilot. They argued, and then it was settled, Pidge would stay at the castle and Larmina would take over for him full time. They cried, but neither of them would admit it, especially because they still were wary of their new places.

Yet with a similar face in a new space, they still lost one of their own. Everyone on the team watched as Daniel succumbed to a sickness brought on because of haggarium, eventually bedridden and practically motionless. Maybe they hadn't made enough of an effort to show Daniel he was valued, that he was worth the effort they were putting in to essentially keep him alive By the time anyone even thought that, it was too late. He allowed the destruction of so many cities on Arus before Maahox had arrived to collect him, Vince had seen it all. Maahox didn't hide the fact that the haggarium in Daniel was the cause of that, but he made sure not to let Daniel know that was the only reason he was useful, instead telling him he wasn't needed in the force because of the boy right in front of them trying so hard to get Daniel back. That the force only wanted Vince.

The team knew they had to find the final planet that was part of voltron creation, Maahox wasn't hindered anymore, and his creations had gotten worse. But with no map and no name to their holy grail, they had to get help. Luckily, they weren't the only giant mech team out there with the same goal. The explorer had been reinstated after Wade's arrest, with their mission to defend Earth, and when Maahox first attacked, they did their best as vehicle voltron while the force figured out their own problems before joining in as lion voltron. But now their focus was different, going into deep space like the explorer was originally built to do to search for the missing planet And to protect Earth in their stead? A long forgotten project by the GG finally let into the light, now manned by Drule twins and another stoker to really connect it all.

Everything was terrifying for Anya again, but now Pidge could really promise not to leave her side. Especially because if the moment calls for it, they'd be following their team out into space while still inside the castle, together.

also used your overalls outfit for her since you specified your vf/ld au! I don't have too many Balton traits that are visible to their body other than their ears freckles and secondary eyelids, so I felt like adding something else for balance

Though I would post some of my VF art. I’m kinda working on my art style for humans (and Baltons) right now and I’d say it’s going pretty well. Naturally I had to draw them in their natural states, Lance’s being punching things, and Pidge’s being doing science

Here’s a bonus Chip too since I love him even though he got like 45 seconds of screen time. I didn’t want to just give him a black outfit, so I went with a modified version of deviantart’s @Cheetoy’s version since I really liked their design

How did you discover the show?

Well, I was actually rereading forums on the old voltron forum despite it being fairly empty. While doing that I went to the voltron’s twitter after I found an image of Chip and Pidge. Then I found a picture they posted to reveal the reboot and I followed every bit of progress I could online discussing theories and such.

Was it love at first sight or did it take a while to warm up to?

I really liked it, there were some things I was against at first which I won’t talk about but I loved it. I guess I just wanted to see more people into voltron like I was, I watched it all the time on boomerang as a kid and NOBODY knew of it. Suddenly there is a reboot and everyone is watching it... I think that grew more affection for the show then I already had mostly because of the characters. ...Though I still hope to see VV... I will write an episode for it if they let me.

Do you have a favorite episode?

Any episode with the family, or an episode that makes me sad for a few minutes... Tense episodes... I have many favorites so I can’t put one over the other especially while the show is still being worked on. Though season six had some good parts I really like.

Favorite Paladin?

Alright so... I adore them all (HunkandPidge)... But I love Keith I know it’s a popular pick but he is my favorite.

Favorite Lion?

Green and Red.

Favorite Villain?

Haggar, always has been always will be.

Favorite Aliens?

Galra and Unilu! (Gonna add Balton incase they make a cameo)

Favorite Side Characters?

How/Why did you join the fandom?

The art, ideas, meta, and the fact I found people I can talk about the old show and vld with! It’s very fun... Plus I made Kez which was fun.

Best part of the show?

Well, I think the characters really, and all the races the interactions as time goes on... The Kral Zera and past paladin history interest me the most. I can say a lot more but it takes me a little while to think of all of it.

Hopes? Wishes?

VEHICLE VOLTRON AND THE PLANET BALTO. I made meta for some of the old characters like Krik and Jeff... I love to think of how VV fits into this universe and with galra politics going to crap and VV dealing with drule politics failing their planet I would like to see it... AND more Hunk being a sort of spokesperson(?) for voltron.

Will you stick around for the show?

Yes, I want to see where it goes and how it ends. It can’t be as bad as... Some things I tried to watch but couldn’t get into.

Favorite Character?

Pidge and Keith! We’ve seen them angry, upset, looking for someone lost... We’ve seen Pidge’s dark side with sacrificing Lotor and Keith’s negligence as he was forced out of his comfort zone as he first went to Black (whom he now has grown into I believe). I think they earned a star as my favorite with Hunk being a VERY close second.

I can’t think of an addition, so I guess I’ll tag now.

So I decided to go a little bit deeper into my alien VForce designs and expand on biology and all.

Allura always feels (and looks) gorgeous, partly because of her pink and purple dotted markings (on face and shoulders). Most Arusians usually one solid color for markings (Coran has orange, Larmina has blue, but will develop orange later in life) but prolonged exposure to certain off-world materials may cause split colors.

The ancient Arusians were cave dwellers, so most of their features are for the dark tunnels they used to live in. They have enhanced eyesight, extremely sensitive antenna and long ears.

Like all Arusians, Allura’s markings glow in the dark. The particles on the tips of her antenna and ears also glow.  When flattered she’ll light up like a Christmas tree instead of blushing. She has managed to convince Keith that it's just allergies. She hasn’t been able to convince the rest of the team that tho...

Speaking of Keith, his spattering of blue dots didn’t turn up until his “solo mullet adventure.” They don’t glow like Allura’s do, and his antenna are incredibly short and bristly (He thought they were weird hairs for 30 years), but he does have very good eyesight and a bit of a edge to his ears.

Lance, as a Volcrona, could easily pass for a human if he never smiled. Unfortunately his sense of humor unveils several rows of razor sharp teeth (think sharks).

During his time at the academy, he blunted them down to avoid attention, but as they fall out and grow back constantly, he almost has a full set by the time Lotor is defeated for good. The rest of the force doesn't mind or care what race he is, but because of the war between Volcron and The Galaxy Alliance, several Arusians and Humans would be bitter if they knew exactly what race the Red Lion Pilot is, so he tends to avoid that. Or should I say, the rest of the team is tired of bar fights so they told him to cover up. 

He doesn't mind to much. Originally coming from a volcanic planet, he’s always cold, so an excuse to wear his jacket everywhere is fine with him. He’s always doing things to keep himself warm: drinking coffee at all hours, wearing a flight jacket to formal events, and using his Voltcom charge to keep himself toasty. Pidge has modified a few things to help him out here and there, but is also constantly chastising him for drinking coffee at 11 in the evening, the hypocrite.

Like most Volcrona, Lance possesses symmetrical markings all over his body. When not wearing his uniform, the only visible ones are the two pairs on either side of his face, but other than that he can hide them pretty well. Even if they are noticed, he can always pass them off as tattoos.

Pidge has also faced some scrutiny for being of an alien race not allied with the Galaxy Alliance, but he tries not to let that get to him. Sure, Baltons are known for being assassins and bounty hunters, but to say all Baltons are cold-blooded killers is like saying that all Arusians are racist jerks and all Humans are trigger-happy idiots.

So he doesn’t hide the fact that he’s dotted with feathers, has talons, fangs, and weighs about 85 pounds due to his light, air filled bones (not like he could hide that if he wanted to).

That’s not to say he enjoys being Balton. Molting season is a nightmare. He gets all itchy and crabby and leaves feathers everywhere. Balton growth spurts? Agony. He grew two inches in one night and had such bad growing pains he couldn't see straight the next day.

I was going through old pictures on my computer and I found screenshots of a post with DBZ Abridged quotes that @zipp0flare​ sent me years ago. And a quote just stood out. So, here we are.  Poor Shorty. He lost his LSD. Pidge isn’t doing much to comfort him, other than patting his back, but. Well.  RIP Shorty’s milk jug of LSD.  Press F to pay respects? But. Why did he have the LSD? Where did he get it? What made him drop it?

Oh.  That’s why he dropped it.  I think Chip shot near him and startled him.  Oof.

I live to dropkick the pidgeons whenever possible. And my favourite? Katie.  I was hit with the urge to redraw screenshots, especially when one of the girls were rewatching episode 20 of DotU. Gotta love the feels. It hurts, but still. And I decided to redraw Pidge upset, but with VLD Pidge with the idea that she’s from Balto and just saw her planet get blown up.  Also! I used the the screenshot of the planet blowing up to reflect it into her visor.

I just needed Bandor and Pidge being adorable again. And I was thinking of the opening of Persona 5 Royal with Akechi and the protagonist lying down in the gems, so I went with that pose.  SO. Here they are. My cuties! And yes, blind Pidge! Because I love that AU. Improvement, we love to see it. Anyway, for whatever reason, I was led to this old piece and thought, "Hey, what if I redraw this one, but with great changes?" So here I am. New outfits, new features (the black sclera), better hair, Katie with new glasses, the expressions and gestures and movement. It is PERFECT. I love it. I love how much I've improved, especially for VF Pidge's hair. And thank you, @toasthoneyandstardust for helping me out with Pidge's outfit. I'm proud of this improvement.

Okay. Let's see. Where do I begin? I wanted A LOT OF STUFF. I wanted to revisit the concept of Reylond, a take for Coran's son that he deserves in VLD. I wanted Larmina as Altean in VLD. I wanted Larmina crushing on nerdy Pidge. And I didn't know what Pidge I wanted and then remembered this Olkari-looking one and thought that'd be so adorable. So. Here we are with all of that. And I am pleased. Whether or not Pidge has noticed, well... I don't think so. She's the dumbest genius around and I love that for her. But Reylond noticed. Also. Reylond being Coran's son (based on the GoLion name of Roland). Also imagining Larmina as Coran's niece instead of Allura's. It's the ginger hair. So, Relond as Larmina's cousin is absolutely perfect and adorable. You can bet he'll tease her.

I SWORE THESE WERE MORE RECENT! Apparently not. Drawing Pidge as a cadet in a VLD AU was back in January and I started this one then, too. But, I finally got myself to finish this. And here we have Pidge, struggling to adjust to being a cadet and working with a team. Trigel is doing her best to help her, though.
