Maestro Hiccups 3: Chaos Incarnate Ch 63
You stare directly at the Collector. "Well, For starters, you can help by seeing if anything else gets affected by the Hiccups." You say. The Collector gives a salute "You got it!" He says, snapping his fingers and vanishing in a puff of smoke.
Kaylo looks at where the Collector was "Well, I suppose that I should go and be sure as well...It's only a matter of time before Those hiccups affect me too." She says, getting up from her knees, but not without her turning to you. "Although, In case you may need me, feel free to ring this bell, and I'll come right away." She said. You nod and pocket the bell as the Collector comes back
"There are a lot of worlds being transformed by the strange hiccups Balan has!" He says "I know. And they're only gonna get worse unless someone stops them." Kaylo says to him. "Well, Can I come along too? Maybe I can help in Wonderworld!" He says. "Alright, Maybe you can contain some of the chaotic magic." You say. The Collector's mouth turns into a smile "Yay! Let's go!" He shouts
"Hold on now, We still need to get Leo and Emma. They're still down there on earth." You say. The Collector gives his fingers a snap before you are all back outside in the twisted landscape, right in front of Leo, Emma and Jack, making them fall to the ground. Kaylo stared in shock at Jack "Jack?! What happened to you?! You look like that poor excuse of a rabbit!" She shouts.
"I think you can blame whatever it is doing this." Jack says, a teasing tone in his voice. "Oh it'll be alright Jack, Y/N actually knows the cause, and they're working on it!" Kaylo says. "Speaking of which, now that the game is over, we can get back to the theater and find the others!" Emma says. "Right. Let's get you back." Kaylo says, taking her scissors and opening a portal back to the Balan Theater. "Tell Balan and Lance I said hi!" She says cheerfully.
"What about you? Won't you get affected too?" You ask. The pink haired girl shrugs "Eh. I'll be alright, after all Things can only go up from here." She says. "We better get going." Leo says, hopping into the portal. "Alright. I'll see you around! Be careful!" Kaylo says as Emma, the Collector and you then jump inside, and land back at the Balan Theater.
To your horror, it had gotten WORSE during your little game with the Collector. The skies grew darker, as multi-patterned clouds swirled around the Isle of Tims. Meanwhile, the Isle didn't look much like an Isle any more, and resembled more of an abstract painting...that had been melting. "Oh that goodness. You have returned. And another of our world you have earned. A familiar voice said.
You turn to see Balan and Lance nearby, Lance holding what looked to be every form of lucky charm, while Balan was performing some kind of ritual. The Collector giggled at Balan's antics "Are you dancing?" He asked, floating upside down. Both of the maestro looked surprised at the Collector's appearance, as if they wasn't expecting the magical child to be in Wonderworld.
"Collector? How have you been? Our last meeting was way back when!" Lance says. "I wanted to see if I could help! I came with Y/N after our game of Hide and Seek!" He says. "Well then, I see. But that can wait, at least for me." Balan says. "I think it's time for us to find our next person." You say, pulling out the map.

Some long overdue Balan Wonderworld headcanons about the theater bros this time, plus some general Wonderworld worldbuilding.
I have several nicknames for them, most commonly the train twins (not to be confused with the Pokemon train twins), the theater twins, and the therapy twins.
They are both fully qualified therapists, though not licensed, so they are not at liberty to prescribe more than over the counter medications.
The duo basically just popped into reality within the Wonderworld. Whether or not there were Maestros before them is unknown. The theater existed long before they did, but that's the only thing they're actually sure of. They are, in fact, twins, and gender is a suggestion.
Balan is none gender with left sparkly theater. Lance is all the gender but only when he feels like it. Balan treats 'dad' as a title and simply prefers a more masculine aesthetic (after like 3,000 years of kids accidentally or intentionally calling him dad he's gotten used to it).
The duo weren't born with their knowledge of therapy and their theatric flair, that was developed over time and years upon years of study and trial and error. At the very beginning they treated the theater as a place to shelter from life's hardships and a place for others to feel seen and heard. While that hasn't changed, they've come a long way into providing extended assistance to those that need it.
Not everyone visits the Wonderworld. The Wonderworld only allows those that it can actually help through its doors. Anyone with a problem too big to be solved or too small to need their intervention would not be allowed in.
The Wonderworld works a bit like the TARDIS. It is sentient, though not in the conventional way, and very fond of its Maestros.
Theater denizens like Jumping Jack and the other costumes manifest when a Stage is connected. They are aspects of the hearts of guests filtered through the lens of stagecraft. Their magic exists in order to tell a story and that is about it.
The Negati were a real threat that existed in the depths of the Wonderworld proper since the theater's existence began. The existence of the Balan necessitates it. As there is light, there must be shadow. As there is healing, there is harm. The Negati used to lash out at anything that entered the Wonderworld on complete instinct, the species is nothing but concentrated negative emotions with no capacity for complex thought. By taking on the curse of the King, the Negati can be controlled, but they cannot be destroyed, for destroying them would destroy the balance and something stronger and more horrible would manifest in their place.
The curse of the King is a completely original idea of mine used to explain how Lance can control the Negati. (Having priorly written for Vanitas, I could have gone hive mind, but nah. While the Negati may act like they are a hive mind, they don't have enough brains to be one.)
Lance can intentionally spawn Negati from ambient emotions. He doesn't always do this of his own free will, though.
Outside of the Wonderworld, the curse of the King means that its current bearer can feel all ambient negative emotions with full intensity. This can be extremely overwhelming. In the Wonderworld, these emotions are not felt unless the current curseholder refuses to manifest the Negati formed by excess negativity. They normally simply spawn these Negati and go about their day with some extra in the hoard.
Negati exist within the heart of the Wonderworld, a place of nothing but darkness. It's so concentrated because of how sprawling the Stages are.
Tims are also called Positi. They manifest as naturally as Negati. Unlike Negati, they do not spawn from a source.
The magical train, while not seeing use in my posted fics, is a thing used extensively in the stuff I write with my friends. It is an infinitely long magical train with as many rooms as it will ever need. It can exist in any and all dimensions as needed simultaneously. The train itself is usually parked in one static spot while the doors open to other realities/dimensions. The train also links directly to the Wonderworld, but unlike the Stages in the theater, the Stages have to be intentionally built and crafted to link up since it is the theater itself that manifests full stages without input.
The final boss is, in fact, a puppet built by Lance. It's made out of fancy fabrics, paint, and chicken wire, primarily. Its frightening appearance is a combination of skill, lighting, and Lance using his powers to help animate it into something ferocious. The tendrils that poke out of it are Lance's. The eye thingies you have to hit are just props.
Lance is in charge of props and costuming. Balan usually handles anything to do with set design beyond what the Wonderworld does naturally and lighting (he was totally running the lights during the final boss fight).

me, holding both the jumping jack powerup and bubble blower powerup: ..these... these do the same thing. which one do i scrap.
#as a professional moron; i have decided to rewrite balan wonderworld because i just really like the concept of it /j#(i decided to remake/redesign the powerups as if i was making balan wonderworld c: )#its a good design practice ig#ive redesigned chapter 1-3's powerups; and i redesigned the ones we saw for chapter 4 and 6#i might also redesign the boss designs??? possibly??? maybe???#for the powerups themselves:#tornado wolf and fire dragon have been merged into one; and pounding pig might be aswell???#(i cant decide... bc its like yeah its a powerup but also literally every platformer has a groundpound in their normal moveset..)#the plant powerup? gone. threw it out the window (theres no real reason for it to be there anyway. jumping jack does basically the same)#jumping jack and bubble blower do basically the same thing but i have no idea which one i want to scrap....#like jumping jack is apart of the first level so if i get rid of it id have to rework the level itself#but bubble blower does the same thing but slightly better..#merging them might make their designs clash... so i have no idea if i want to merge or scrap one of them#the sheep and jackal powerups are merged; the pumpkin and cog powerups are merged too.. i like the way i designed the sheep merge#dynamic dolphin has been given the diving rights. the jellyfish has gotten their diving rights revoked#i think ill merge the jellyfish and teleport powerups together. so no more diving but electric and teleportation will still be there#web wrangler is still here! but with a massive redesign. the lamp powerup got merged into one move bc its just pointless#butterfly got a redesign but their power is still the same basically. but for sickle slinger??? i have no idea.#i designed them but i have no idea if i should merge them or leave em be.... i think ill leave em be.#i aim for having 2-3 powerups per level; as the fact that there are 80 powerups total is just like. why. most of these are pointless#thats all ive gotten for now as the playthrough im watching has only gotten up to chapter 3... h#[free therapy baby!!!]

PLEASE do some if the costumes from Balan Wonderworld! (Sorry, I just really love this game!)
Tickle Experiment - Wonderworld Inhabitants
- Study conducted by request from surprising number of individuals, including @itz-arianna-lunar and @kayssweetdreams among others.
- The various humanoid/alien species in Wonderworld display similar genetic properties to Pokémon: while each individual possesses unique sentience and personality, differing species all share common appearances and physical traits.
- In other words, most members of a “costume” species will usually have similar ticklish spots and reactions. (Within 70% percentile). Exceptions will of course be found.
- Furthermore, costumes of these various races imbue their wearers with the genetic characteristics of the creatures they mimic. IE, if a person who’s not particularly ticklish on their stomach wears a Jolt Tiger outfit, they may suddenly find themselves more sensitive there, etc.
Tumblr media
Jumping Jack
Tend to kick in an involuntary flurry of rapid limbs when tickled. Usually enjoy it, but beware risk of accidental physical harm.
Love tickle fights and tickle wrestling! A friendly & playful but very physical species, much like real-world kangaroos.
Most vulnerable on feet (arches) and belly (esp. inside pouch). Ears are also ticklish.
As they grow, Jumping Jacks adjust quickly to carrying things in their pouches. When an unfamiliar human wears this costume for the first time, the sensitivity there may surprise them.
Tumblr media
Double Jumper
Usually most ticklish on their ribs and feet.
Highly resistant to being tickled - this species is aggressive and will angrily fight back if provoked.
Squirm, kick, and thrash when tickled.
Dry, cackling laughter. Rough voices.
Tips of their tails, which can move quickly, are firm. A good tickle weapon, if rarely utilized as such.
Tumblr media
Butterfly (Dusk/Dawn)
Interesting display of sexual dimorphism in Wonderworld species - while Dusk Butterflies are uniformly female, Dawn Butterflies are uniformly male.
Airheaded creatures. Not low on intelligence, but careless, oblivious, and very much in their own world.
Ticklish on all the usual spots…feet, tummy, ribs, armpits, et al…but these species seem to have a plethora of more-unconventional spots (elbows, knees, antennae, bases of wings).
Have a chiming laughter, like the tinkling of bells.
The dust/powder their wings produce can create a tingling sensation in the skin. It’s been described as “very tickly” by humans.
Tumblr media
Aero Acrobat
Prominent Tickle Spots: Armpits, Backs of Knees, Soles
Excitable breed of creatures. Enjoy tickling. Most likely to be lers. (78% majority)
Inquisitive. Skilled at finding others’ weak spots and coming up with unique ways to tickle. They poke. A lot.
Aero Acrobat costumes inspire creativity and invention. If someone wanted to design a tickle machine, wearing this outfit would probably help.
Tumblr media
Speedy Cheetah
High concentrations of nerve endings on feet, especially balls and arches. Livewires of touch sensitivity all over their bodies due to stored kinetic energy in cells.
Since their pent-up speed can only be released in short bursts, it's not always difficult to catch them. Very difficult, however, to hold down. Jumpy, flexible.
Proud creatures. Usually hate being tickled.
Not ticklers by nature. It's "silly, beneath them." Do however delight in comedic misfortune of others. Utilize hard and fast scratches when tickling.
Tumblr media
Tackling Bull
The easiest and fastest way to defeat a Tackling Bull is to dodge when he or she charges, then quickly tickle from behind - armpits and ribs are weak spots.
Typically as a species, these humanoids cannot stand being tickled. It makes them very angry.
Monstrous laughter…loud bellows and roars exclusively. Will often thrash and pound the ground when tickled.
On the giving end, they’re wildly aggressive. Violent pins, Nelson holds, harsh jabbing and squeezing finger movements.
Tumblr media
Ladderman
Laddermen/women commonly have very ticklish armpits. Tummy, hips, and the balls of the feet are also weak spots.
Their primary occupation (creating and holding ladders) often leaves them vulnerable with raised, exposed underarms.
Frequently exploit this opportunity and tickle each other during ladder work. A mischievous species, they like to tickle and be tickled.
Tight-knit. Very familial species.
Tumblr media
Flame Blaster
Warrior-minded breed that often need to lighten up and relieve tension. (Tickling is an effective method.) Quiet and contemplative.
Soft, steady, deep-voiced laughter.
Tickling reaction is twofold: begins with panic and attempts to escape, followed by eventual surrender to playful laughter and wrestling.
Often tickle too roughly by accident but mean no harm!
Tumblr media
Jolt Tiger
Extremely ticklish and become quite volatile when tickled. Caution: may produce electrical discharge.
Possess roaring voices, uniformly loud. Can’t hold laughter in. No self-control.
Most common tickle spots: tummy, between toes.
Stomach lights up when charging electricity. The energy seems to temporarily increase their bellies’ weakness.
Tumblr media
Sun Walker/Moon Walker
Like Butterflies, Walkers are dimorphic creatures - Sun Walkers are male and Moon Walkers are female.
Suns are usually ler-leaning switches who enjoy brightness and laughter. Moons are usually shy lees who hate being tickled, but enjoy retaliation.
Both types of Walker have exceptionally ticklish feet. Sun Walkers often possess sensitive underarms and sides, while Moon Walkers display tendency toward ticklishness on the belly and sides.
Opposing supernatural abilities - power to stop time when standing still, power to stop time while in motion - will create scenarios in which the one will be rooted in place and the other will be free to move. Tickling among opposing genders is often very one-sided because of this.
CONCLUSIONS:
Results promising. The varied effects that genetic restructuring has on humans' ticklishness indicates potential for study in further universes and fields. (Cross-reference between superheroes with similar powers?)
Most Wonderworld species, even the aggressive ones, enjoy play and physical contact. Only a few will react to tickles with anger/violence. A peaceful realm that seems an ideal place to foster tickling as a cornerstone of bonding and relationships.
Study further.
This is gonna be my last Balan Wonderworld post for a little while. I love the game’s universe and got more fic requests, but I’ve been doing a lot more than expected with this IP lately and just need a bit of a break from it. 😂

Balan Wonderworld Review - Favorite Costumes Part 1
I have officially beat the game with every single Gold Balan Statue in every level, got the Balan Costume, got all the main game costumes and the latest section of the Tower of Tims that I need to unlock being the sixth section.
I had quite a ball playing the game despite Square Enix being backstabbers to Balan Company and the game. Now, this huge ass review will split into different categories and will have their own page. These categories are:
Favorite Costumes
Level Design and Level Music
Boss and Boss Music
Now, these picks will be my personal opinion. I'm starting with costumes because it's probably the hardest out of these to choose from since every costume has incredible designs to them.
There will be two picks for each Chapter: a Common Costume and a Rare Costume.
Common Costumes are those you can easily find in each act. If you can find them in multiple spots in one act or they can seen im both acts then they count as common.
Rare Costumes are ones you have to go the extra length to find. Some are hidden while others require certain costumes to get.
The Balan Costume isn't being counted for obvious reasons. It is the only costume found on the Isle of Tims and it's requirements are staggering.
How To Get Balan Costume
First you need to feed the Tim Statue on the isle a certain amount of Rainbow Drops. Once it's full, you need to get a white Crowned Tim. This very Tim can be acquired by getting Tims with three badges.
A Tim can get a badge for consuming the equivalent of 30 Tim Drops(3 large drops) in either blue, pink or red colors. You need at least 2 Tims with all 3 badges and then breed them together. It is trial and error so I suggest getting multiple Tims with badges but also exit the game if ya fail to get a white Crowned Tim.
Once you have the Tim, do a level and it should be the proper size to pick up. Throw it at the statue and it will become the Father Tim. That big Tim will fly you up to the costume so you can get. If ya lose the costume, then give the Father Tim more Rainbow Drops. Rainbow Drops can be given by redoing stages, bosses or Tim Statues scattered about the levels.
Now let's get started.
Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Tornado Wolf
An obvious choice for me. Wolves are one of my favorite animals and werewolves being one of my favorite mythological creatures. Tornado Wolf can be found in Act 1 and in the Boss Level. A simple jump engulfs the player in a mini tornado that can reflect wind projectiles and break blocks.
Powerful, agile and cute plus Tornado Wolf just gives me Werehog nostalgia since I'm a Sonic Unleashed fan.
Rare Costume: Jumping Jack
You can't just give me an adorable kangaroo and one of the better costumes when it's comes to movement. Jumping Jack can only be found in Act 1 so it's actually rare. This costume allows the player to do a flutter jump, great for getting extra air, reaching slightly far platforms and a decent recovery.
It's a costume I suggest stocking up on since you can't get the better mobility options until Chapter 6 Act 2. Also love there's a plushie in the pouch and the white patches of fur. Kangaroo are marsupials who do carry young in their pouches, and the silver tufts just add extra charm to the design.
Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Jelly Jolt
Very useful! The Jelly Jolt is the perfect costume when it comes to electric resistance and make enemies stay five feet away while you shock them to hell. Can be found in Act 1 and the Boss Act. First time seeing an adorable jellyfish that actually doesn't mean harm.
Jellicent, Frillish, and Healslimes don't count considering the former have a habit of wrecking ships and the latter is a pain in the ass in boss fights or tough opponents. Also, all of these attack you! Case in point.
Rare Costume: Double Jumper
Definite pick for many reasons. This costume can only be found in Act 2 and requires the Fixer Upper Costume in Chapter 12 or the Frost Fairy Costume in Chapter 8(harder difficulty for reaching it).
It allows you to double jump, a godsend when it comes to reaching Balan Statues, costumes, recovery and careful platforming. You can get some major air with this costume and makes backtracking for certain levels easier.
I love the demonic imp design too. Imps are agile and mischievous creatures after all. Just like the basis, this costume is difficult to grab like the imp.
Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Sickle Slicer
Slickle Slicer are one of your first go-to for fighting spiked enemies. This costume can be found in Act 2 and the Boss Act, it allows you to throw sickles that act like a boomerang. If you do a combo, these sickles can go farther than their already decent range.
The design is a very nice touch since the praying mantis can be considered a high level predator amongst insects. The costume is quite agile which helps in a pinch against fast opponents.
Rare Costume Itsy Bitsy Elf
A mini chinchilla perfect for tiny doors. Costume can only be found in Act 2 and takes some careful platforming to get. Suggest using the Jumping Jack costume if you don't want to wait for the better option in Chapter 6. This costume lets you enter tiny doors that often hold Balan Statues or Balan Bout inside. Very adorable, very fast (probably second fastest in the main story) and super fun.
Chapter 4
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Aero Acrobat
Holy Balloon Popping Batman! This costume can be found in Act 1, Act 2 and the Boss Act. It allows you to pop balloons and even jump kick enemies caught in the crosshair. Balloons are scattered about in various levels and this guy is a great option of transport to reach these specific areas.
The aviator outfit makes it even better and I love bats. Probably my favorite flying mammal of the bunch since I often have a bat ally in games like Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, a Crobat for hunting escape happy Legendaries in Pokemon and Hidabat in Yokai Watch.
Rare Costume: Happy Horn
My first performing costume. It can be found in Act 2 and performs on special stage platforms scattered throughout chapters. A good way to gain some extra drops and hear a different version of stage clear. Not only is the costume charming, this is the first time I actually like listening to a marching band.
Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Guardian Bird
The first costume to find in Act 1, can also be found in Act 2 and the Boss Act. The Guardian Bird costume lets you throw a mini whirlwind in midair. A nice costume to have for hitting far off opponents and counter wind projectiles.
I love the purple and yellow of the feathers and that orange mimics the bandana and ponytail of the costume's human equivalent. This costume is quite quick and good for dodging, the ability can act as a last second recovery should the need arrives.
Rare Costume: Sickle Slayer
A much stronger version of the Sickle Slicer that can be found in Act 2. One of the early options for breaking iron blocks or fighting iron coated opponents. The extra bulk does slow down the player but the payoff is worth it.
The larger size, serrated sickles and the color palette proves that this is a costume you rightfully earned. A sign that you can handle the much stronger costumes that can be found in the game. The general amongst the Sickle race.
Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Common Costume: Pumpkin Puncher
The Fruity Boxer! A costume found in Act 1, 2 and the Boss! This costume lets you punch opponents from afar with straight Rayman equivalent punches. Doing a combo even extends the range. A faster hitter than the Sickle Costumes but also great at getting tons of Drops from Negati. If you take out tons of Negati in a single costume without changing or getting hit, the number of Drops they give increases.
I love the design since it's practically a scarecrow boxer. The outfit is cute, has a sort of fanciness you can only find in medieval periods in wealthy districts.
Rare Costume- Air Cat
The princess of platforming. This costume can only be found in Act 2 and allows the player to walk on air for a short amount of time. A perfect option for reaching far off areas, recovery and even avoiding ground hazards.
I've used this costume A LOT for most of my playthrough of the game. Even go back to Chapter 6 just to restock if I run out. This costume is that good. Very adorable too, just has this Artistocats nostalgia to it as well. Also I am a cat lover, literally got 5 cats at home and all are rescues as well.
That will be it for now. Part 2 of Favorite Costumes will be out sometime this week. I would've put the whole thing here but Tumblr limits how many pictures you can add to a post, 10 to be precise. Also, I don't want to make this too long for any fellow readers.
Until next time folks! See ya back in Wonderworld.

Maestro Hiccups 3: Chaos Incarnate Ch 57
You held the scissors at your side. "Y'know...maybe we should wait for Kaylo to come back...As much as we need to find the Collector, we have no idea how to open portals..." you say.
Your Kaylo seems to smile "What a good choice to have made." She said as she began to hover above the ground. "Hey! I thought you were in another dimension!" You say in shock at the magical Kaylo "I was! I got your Kaylo back to your version of Wonderworld!" She said. "I needed to just be sure that you didn't do anything sneaky." She said with a caring smile.
"Well...Thanks?" You say, unsure of her words "And, as promised, I'll get you to the dimension that the Collector is hiding in. Can I see the location on the map please?" She asked, tilting her head. You nod as you show the Collector's hiding spot on the map, and Kaylo's eyes widened "Hey! That's the world that my home is in!" She shouts. "Well, I guess that's where we gotta go then." Leo says.
"Alright, Let's go. I'm not sure if it's still intact though." Kaylo replies, cutting open the portal to the world. You pale, knowing that Balan's hiccups might have made it to that world already, but you didn't have much of a choice if you wanted to finish the game, and find the others. Taking a deep breath, You jump in, followed by Leo, Emma, and Kaylo.
Various worlds and dimensions swirled around you as you were rapidly falling to your new dimension. However, to your shock, you could see another wave of Balan's chaotic magic rushing towards the various worlds and affect them even more than before. "We have to hurry and finish this game." You mutter. When you finally reach the other side of the portal, you find yourself in a warped version of a quiet town.
"Welcome to Burgess...or at least. I think it's still Burgess..." Kaylo says, her pink eyes watching as the world seemed to have turned itself inside out. "I guess Balan's hiccups had made this world turn itself on its head." Emma said. "I hope Jack is OK..." Kaylo mutters, causing you to look curious. "Jack? Who's Jack?" You ask.
Kaylo gives a smile, but a sad sigh comes from her form "Jack Frost." She says with humor in her voice. Your eyes widened, although you shouldn't be that surprised, given everything that you've seen and been through so far. "He often comes by Rhythm Heaven, But I hope he's alright..." she mutters, looking out into the distance.
You give her a caring pat on the shoulder as she smiled at you. "But my panic can wait, you've gotta finish this game." Kaylo said. You nod, however, unlike Inkwell Isle, and the Superstar Daycare, you had no idea what this world was like before Balan's Hiccups hit. "Kaylo? Where do you think the Collector might be hiding?" You ask.
She opens her mouth to answer the question, when a small burst of smoke appears around her, and in her place was a small doll version of her, next to a note that said "No Cheating!" The three of you tense up. The girl who had been helping you had been transformed into a small lifeless toy...and it wasn't from Balan "OK. Now we HAVE to find the Collector and tell him to undo this!" Leo exclaimed.
You nod as you look around this new world that you were lost in. There were a few places to check to see if the Collector was. You spotted a large lake that was frozen over, as well as brightly colored. You turned to see a large forest bathed in golden glitter, and in front of you sat the twisted and warped town, affected by Balan's chaotic magic

Extended content on Balan Wonderworld
Okay, the Demo has been released for a long while now and I know there is high criticism for it and many folks would likely turn away from it. But to anyone who is still interested in play the game after experiencing the Demo or still curious about it, then I will leave this message is for you (as someone who followed this game series since its announcement trailer) you can have a better understanding of it.
BALAN WONDERWORLD is a wondrous action-platformer game themed around a mysterious musical theatre. The stars of the show will use special abilities from a multitude of characterful costumes as they adventure in the bizarre and imaginary land of Wonderworld. So think of it.... as you playing Alice who is actually traveling to Wonderland. The game is more or less a successor to Night in Dreams but is something different. It's related but it's likely doesn't reside in the same world (take what I said with a grain of salt.)
~Now to get to the more narrative aspect of the game....there isn't a straightforward story but rather a theme to it. Here memories and vistas from the real world mix with the things that people hold dear. There are Twelve different tales (or Chapters) in Wonderworld and each with its own unique quirks (or settings). They are mostly labyrinthine stages, using all tricks and gimmicks whether out in the open or hidden, the player needs to get through them in order to get to the heart of each touching story.
So long story short: It's basically you traveling to different worlds that reflect their hosts, find their "heart", discover what brought darkness within their hearts, and freeing them. Basically a rescue mission with a twist.
~Next we move onto the game mechanics (which I believe, is the biggest subject that needs explanation), the random characters like Tornado Wolf and Jumping Jack are actually embodiments of power-ups or costumes. There are like 80 or more in this game and each of them is a representation of the Host and their world. What they represent is basically up to you.
So far there are like 5-6 costumes each in 12 chapters and each one has a unique skill or quirk to them that can help you guide around the stage and solve puzzles. And since there are usually 2 Acts on each chapter stage so there are likely 3 or 4 costumes in them as well.
The little creatures are called Tims and are basically the Chao or Nightopians of Wonderworld. They live on the Isle of Tims (which is your Hub World) and they are born from the happiness felt by inhabitants of the real world. They all come in colors and personalities, and they’ll help you on your adventures. For example, The Pink Tims help you collect items you overlook or past while the Red Tims attack your enemies.
The Drops are like food that changes their colors and quirks while also making them bigger.
The Balan Bout is basically a quick-time event where you play as Balan. If you play with all excellent you get a Balan Statue.
The Statues are mostly scattered throughout the Chapters and you will need to collect enough of them to move to the next chapters. It's always good to collect as many of them as possible if you can.
~ Moving onto the main characters, there only 4 we are aware of.
Starting off with the title character, Balan himself is the magical maestro of the theater with eccentrics of his own. He's mostly your guide in Wonderworld and basically the one Genie from Aladdin of Wonderworld. He's charming to say the least and easily the most fun to watch.
Next, we have the player: Leo Craig A 15-year-old boy who always acts cool but is really lonesome. Several years ago he had a big argument with his best friend and has preferred being alone ever since which explains in his cutscene on why he is kinda rude.
Then we have another player: Emma Cole, also 15 who is has a bright smile yet often concerns herself with whatever one says around her which makes her very self-conscious and nervous.
Finally, we have Lance, the mysterious being within Wonderworld who controls the Negatis and traps visitors in Wonderworld with negative energy to create monsters out of them. Not much information from him other than he is the antagonistic force of Wonderworld.
So far, this is much information on the characters as we can collect thus far.
Finshing up with the discussion, I believe the game itself is mostly a passion project for Yuji Naka and I can tell he put a lot of work into this too. There are some things that needed more focus on like the context as well as dialogue but as I mentioned earlier, the core of the game is mostly about finding Balance within yourself and understanding what makes you happy in life. And since the setting resides in a magical theater...I think going to expect music, dancing and probably singing as well.
A/N: This isn't me defending the Demo as I am aware that it has issues that needed to be fixed but I am also willing to give the game series a chance since it's the kind of game that I honestly don't mind playing. This message is just me explaining the game in a better context from the information that I and the discord server had collected over the time since the announcement so please do not judge those who still love the game.
TLDR: My discussion is a thorough extended content of BALAN WONDERWORLD,
~An action platformer game with puzzle-solving and collectathon
~The story is more of a Theme that is a central topic, subject, or message within a narrative. And it takes place in a magical theater about 2 teenagers with issues helping 12 other people with issues with the power of friendship, theater, and furry outfits.
~There are over 80 costumes that help throughout the Chapters/Stages of the game.
~The Tims are your helper sidekicks
~And game has good visuals and content but the execution of the demo was not but still giving it a chance.
