Because I am a glutton for punishment, I rewatched season 3.
The story so far: For those of you following along, I’ve been gearing up for watching the GoT I haven’t seen (the back half of season 5 and beyond) by rewatching the stuff I HAVE seen. It’s been... an experience. I’m coping with my fury by squeeing over the things I loved and foaming at the mouth over the things I hated.
The finale aired between my season 2 and 3 rewatch, and I am full of snark, but everything is also hilarious.
3x01
1. GHOST IS THE GOODEST BOY. Also everyone BE NICER TO SAM. Every time I see Kit and Rose together on screen I go, “Awww they’re gonna be married.” So happy this show brought them together.
2. Ciarán Hinds as Mande Rayder was SUCH epic good casting. I want to watch all of Rome now.
3. Davos is a salty old cat with nine lives and I was SO happy to see him alive. And then he RISKS ONE OF THEM being loyal to Stannis. That’s some Ned Stark levels of honor.
4. Michael McElhatton’s voice is so amazingly creepy I love and hate it all at the same time.
5. That first scene we get with Tyrion and Tywin is A LOT. Tyrion just wants a little bit of recognition and it’s SO SAD. (Also how did Tywin have the lions put up in his office so soon? SO EXTRA.) And wtf is up with Tywin intimating that Tyrion might be a bastard? So glad they dropped that. Who ended up Lord of Casterly Rock though? DOes AnYoNE EveN CaRE?
6. Sansa and Shae playing the game with the ships is... so cute. We overly imaginative people have all had that friend like Shae who’s like WHAT IS THE POINT OF PRETENDING.
7. Ok teenage Drogon cooking his food in midair before eating it was pretty cool.
8. Is that the Stranger on the wall of the building where Margaery talks to the orphans? In the middle of the seven pointed star? It looks CREEPY.
9. The epic Queen-off between Margaery and Cersei IS ON. (For the record Cersei’s armor dress is FANTASTIC.) Also, Jack Gleeson saying “charitable” like it’s a word in a foreign language he’s never heard before is GREAT.
10. You can see the seeds of Missandei being a fantastic diplomat for Queen Daenerys. :( Also, I wonder if Jorah knows she speaks Valyrian as he watched all of this unfold...
3x02
1. I wonder if what Talisa says about how Westerosi are viewed across the narrow sea, as barbarians who smell, is accurate. It makes sense...
2. OH SHIT THEON GETTING TORTURED IS IN THIS EPISODE I WAS NOT READY
3. Latest on a List of insults Brienne puts up with from Jaime: “giant towheaded plank.” He is such a shit. And the way he SWITCHES on a dime from so obviously baiting her to being DEAD serious with the “we don’t get to choose who we love” line... so very him.
4. Sansa and the Tyrells! Those gardens are SO incredibly pretty, and Diana Rigg is SO GOOD as Olenna. May I have half her wit when I’m her age. Getting info out of Sansa on Joffrey was SMART.
5. I love that we get a sense that there are different cultures and languages North of the Wall.
6. HOLY SHIT HI MACKENZIE CROOK I FORGOT YOU WERE IN THIS YOU ADORABLE STRING BEAN.
7. Reeeeeds! Jojen and Mira were so exciting when we first met them...
8. BROTHERHOOOOOD Without Banners SO COOL. And underused.
9. Jaime and Brienne are AT A BRIDGE and NOTHING IS OK enjoy the hand while you have it ,Jaime my love.
3x03
1. Lannister family musical chairs is SO GREAT and Tyrion and Cersei have SUCH BITCHY FACES AT EACH OTHER.
2. They tell Chuck Norris jokes about Brynden the Blackfish, don’t they.
3. Stannis: Men have been trying to kill me for years. Me: Well maybe they need to send a WOMAN TO DO IT. (yeeeeaaaaah Brienne)
4. Dany is a woman with a plan and watching Jorah and Ser Barristan freak out about her possibly giving up one of her dragons is kind of funny.
5. I had forgotten how COMMITTED Ramsay is to his “helping Theon” ruse.” Fuuuuuck.
6. Jaime losing his hand DOES NOT GET ANY EASIER TO WATCH.
3x04
1. Jaime Lannister and the No Good Very Bad Deathwish huuuurts meee. It’s so good Brienne was around.
2. Varys and the sorcerer in a box.... SO CREEPY. Do we ever get resolution on that?? Anyway it made me flat out terrified of the implacability of Varys’ revenge at the time, and Conleth Hill PLAYS IT.
3. The Sept is SO PRETTY way to go CGI folks. That whole scene is just GORGEOUS with the light framing Margaery and Joffrey and Cersei moving in and out of shadow...
4. Theon’s “all he had to do was be” re: Robb hit me RIGHT IN THE FEELS also wow show Theon was really Gay For Robb and you will not convince me otherwise. (Watching him pour his heart out to Ramsay makes me physically ill... whYyYYy am I sober...)
5. I still maintain that show Brienne is WAAAAAY meaner than book Brienne about Jaime’s “leave me alone I’m dying” phase in ways that are really out of character and I HATE IT. Also losing a HAND is not “a little bit of misfortune.” And SHE WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT.
6. Cersei being like “I’ve been listening more than your sons” to Tywin. And Tywin being an ASSHOLE in response instead of FUCKING TELLING HER HOW TO DO BETTER with Joffrey makes me so angry.
7. “If Robb Stark falls Sansa Stark is the key to the North” YOU DON’T SAY VARYS
8. I am... sadder than I remember being about Jeor Mormont dying.
9. I. Like. Anguy. What HAPPENED to him? Also Beric is... intense, but I love him. (And Thoros was IN THE KEEP the day the baby Targaryens died?)
10. And ARYA GETTING TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT MYCAH TO ADULTS WHO LISTEN YES GOOD.
11. Dany hands that Dragon over COOL AS A CUCUMBER WHAT A QUEEN and theN the reveal that she SPEAKS FLUENT VALYRIAN AND DRACARYS AND I THINK I LOVE HER EVEN MORE OUT OF SPITE THIS TIME
3x05
1. Sandor Clegane trying to CHOP HIS OWN WOODEN SHIELD OFF HIS ARM because it’s on fire... wow. That whole scene is IMPRESSIVE. That was a fight that was TRIGGERY AS FUCK for him with all the fire and he still came out on top.
2. This is the episode where Jon and Jaime both get baths! Jon’s was a lot more fun. He got to have sex first. Jaime’s is preceded by being like “take any more of my arm than you have to and die” to Qyburn and a lot of screaming.
3. I CAN BE YOUR FAMILY ALSHAKDHSAG I AM SO ANGRY ARYA AND GENDRY DON’T END UP IN THE SAME PLACE. IT DIDN’T HAVE TO BE SCHMOOPY IT JUST NEEDED TO BE TOGETHER.
4. Every time I see Catelyn looking empty and far away in these scenes I see the Lady Stoneheart that could have been.
5. ROBB DON’T TRY TO BE YOUR DAD LISTEN TO YOUR MOM AND WIFE AND UNCLE. UGH RICHARD’S ACTING IN THAT EXECUTION SCENE THOUGH IT HURTS ME.
6. Beric Dondarion’s voice is amazing. I’m noticing voices more this time around...
7. Shireen Baratheon! What a precious little Princess! Her friendship with Davos is the best thing ever and SHE DESERVED BETTER.
8. Jaime and Brienne in the bath is funny when Jaime’s a shit until it gets very very serious and everything hurts and both of them are better actors than this show deserved. Jaime remembering URGING AERYS TO SURRENDER PEACEFULLY MAKES WHAT HAPPENS IN THE END HURT. He... hasn’t told that story to many people in its entirety and aaaaahhhh my feelings and him telling Brienne MY NAME IS JAIME I CANNOT WITH THEM.
9. Grey Worm is so handsome, and the more I see of Jacob Anderson in the behind the scenes stuff the more awesome he gets.
10. Ugh Cersei my love don’t be so smug about Tyrion and Sansa (Also Tyrion BRINGING UP TYSHA HOLY SHIT I FORGOT) Cersei and Tyrion both look so miserable at the end of that scene I just want to FUCKING THROTTLE TYWIN. Which is how I felt in the books here so KUDOS TO ALL INVOLVED.
3x06
1. I LOVE that we get to hear the Faith of the Seven’s version of “Jesus loves me” and I love that it’s Sam who sings it.
2. Meera holding Jojen while he has his vision/seizure like she’s done it a thousand times before... so sweet. I love that taking care of those who need it is just... part of who she is, and we need more people who are caring AND badass.
3. I forgot that Arya got an archery lesson from Anguy and I love it.
4. Melisandre being like WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU RAISED BERIC SIX TIMES to Thoros is great. Who knows what any of that means now but in the moment wow. Also WTF I FORGOT THEY GAVE GENDRY TO MELISANDRE
5. Ygritte asking Jon if he’s staring at her ass while climbing is so great. Way to know how good you look, girl!
6. Everyone at Riverrun: GROW UP EDMURE.
7. Jaime Being like BRIENNE DO NOT STAB BOLTON I GOT THIS = friendship goals
8. Cersei and Tyrion talking about their impending miserable marriages and not being entirely awful to each other gives me a bit of joy even as I weep for all of them.
9. I laughed for a long time at Varys line calling the Iron Throne “The Lysa Arryn of chairs.”
10. That last shot of Jon and Ygritte kissing is SO PRETTY. Everything at the top of the wall is, really.
3x07: GET BEHIND ME WENCH DON’T YOU SEE THE BEAR
1. Oh GRRM wrote this one. Cool.
2. Brynden Tully calling Walder Frey a wet shit is delightful. I love him so.
3. Do we ever find out if Talisa was telling the truth about writing to her mother? Or any sort of mention of her again since she’s nobility in Volantis and it might be a thing that she got murdered? No?
4. TORMUND TALKING ABOUT FOREPLAY IS HYSTERICAL HE IS THE BOYFRIEND BRIENNE DESERVES
5. Protective Dragons are Protective
6. Please TAKE OUR SHIP AND OUR GOLD AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF ESSOS: the Yunkai emissary, basically.
7. Poor Gendry. What a way to find out your dad was King Robert... Melisandre has a flair for the dramatic.
8. Jaime is bad at goodbyes especially when Brienne called him Ser Jaime instead of Kingslayer.
9. Ygritte threatening to blacken Jon’s eye if he tears her hypothetical silk dress.. THIS is how you write a badass girl who also likes pretty things.
10. Jaime jumping into that ring and continuing to throw his influence around for Brienne... yes good. He’s lucky that bear didn’t get his FOOT TOO though. And that last “Sorry about the Sapphires” to Locke as he’s leaving.... he just can’t help himself he HAS TO POKE PEOPLE VERBALLY EVEN WHEN IT’S DANGEROUS.
3x08: the One with the Other Other Wedding
1. Travels with Sandor and Arya is such a good show.
2. Davos trying to read is SO CUTE. And Stannis coming to Davos for advice and free him says a lot about a Stannis’ character at this point in the show.
3. Hey! It’s the first Daario!
4. Tyrion tried so hard to be kind. I’m glad he and Sansa seem to end on good terms.
5. Cersei being like “I see how you are trying to be my friend and I want NONE OF IT” to Margaery and then telling the story of house Reyne is a power move.
6. Joffrey moving Tyrion’s step stool at the wedding  was a DICK MOVE but I love the look Tywin gives people who are laughing. (And Tyrion And Sansa making the best of a bad situation and Sansa weakly smiling at him when he makes the the joke about the wine before the ceremony is sweet)
7. NOBODY CARES WHAT YOUR FATHER ONCE TOLD YOU YES CERSEI MY QUEEN 👑
8. Tyrion pretending to be drunker than he was to get him and Sansa out of that room and away from Joffrey and the bedding ceremony is SO SAD but smart.
9. Sam cooing and fussing over that baby is the sweetest thing ever.
10. SAM KILLING THAT WHITE WALKER IS LIKE NEVILLE KILLING NAGINI CHANGE MY MIND WAIT YOU CANNOT HE’S SO BRAVE AND I LOVE HIM
3x09: The Rains of MY TEARS ABOUT THE RED WEDDING
I have a RUM and coke ready to go let’s do this
1. Robb asking Catelyn’s advice after he didn’t listen toher about Theon and the Ironborn :...(
2. Those POOR FREY GIRLS are they ok? I hope Arya didn’t kill any of them since they didn’t ask to be Walder the Worst’s daughters and granddaughters.
3. Grey Worm stepping into a leadership role ❤️
4. So... was Castle Black abandoned at the END of Jahaerys’ reign? I feel like the castles were mostly manned at the beginning of his reign? Gotta check on that.
5. In which Jon and Arya are both concerned about innocent small folk.
6. I FORGOT HOW CLOSE ARYA GETS TO THE TWINS
7. I ALSO FORGOT HOW CLOSE BRAN AND RICKON GOT TO JON. And... So much warging and direwolf action!
8. Daario Grey Worm And Jorah make a badass team gotta say.
9. HOLY SHIT MY WIFE JUST POINTED OUT THAT ROSLIN IS ANNE FROM THE MUSKETEERS. I knew I loved that face in a way I hadn’t before when she took off that veil!
10. Byyyyyyeeee Shaggy and Rickon and Osha!
11. Robb and Talisa decided to name the baby Eddard  right before shit went down and I am NOT OK.
12. Fuck me that song HERE WE GO FOLKS.
13. Ugh Catelyn figured out what was about to happen right before. I had forgotten that. All the things that weren’t ok any of the other times are still not ok.
14. GREYWIND NO and now the crying
15. Catelyn with her knife to that Frey girl’s throat is so desperately sad Michelle Fairley BROUGHT IT and I hate everything
3x10: Of Course I’m watching this right after the Red Wedding what do you suggest I do instead? Sit on the couch and cry? (Because that’s definitely what I was gonna do if I didn’t start the next one.)
1. I never noticed Sandor picking up the FREY banner very intentionally smart man. Which I am choosing to focus on because...
2. if I never see Robb’s body with Greywind’s head again it will be too soon.
3. Tyrion and Sansa talking about how to get back at people who laugh at them like they’re friends ❤️❤️❤️
4. Any man who must say I am the king is no true king TELL IT LIKE IT IS TYWIN.
5. Tywin: 1 Joffrey: -15 I’ve been waiting for that throwdown for a while now.
6. Tywin really believes what he’s saying about putting family first. And that STORY ABOUT NEARLY DROWNING TYRION OMG.
7. Ugh Sansa knooooows about the RW and Tyrion just walks away because he’s the last “family” she wants to see.
8. Scary stories at the Night Fort! Like the Rat King... Bran’s a good ghost story teller.
9. WHAT A TRANSITION TO WALDER FREY after all that talk of guest right
10. Can’t wait for dogs to eat Ramsay because Theon’s pleas to be killed turns my stomach and make me see red all at once LEAVE HIM ALONE YOU BASTARD
11. Oh jeez this is where we get the Reek thing in the show. Theon says his own name twice before Ramsay hurts him enough he calls himself Reek and Alfie is SO GOOD I HATE IT
12. Oh right Sam & Co are in the Nightfort too!
13. Yarra not being ok with Balon abandoning Theon GIVES ME LIFE. She’s just so disgusted with her dad AS SHE SHOULD BE.
14. Greyjoys DO NOT DO AS THEY ARE TOLD and I love Yarra.
15. Don’t talk too much shit about highborns Gendry You’re gonna be one.
16. Varys and Shae talking is SO INTERESTING. I... think Varys has some points, and I think she should have listened, taken the diamonds, and peaced out of King’s Landing.
17. That Cersei and Tyrion scene where they talk about her children keeping her alive HURTS MY SOUL SO MUCH.
18. Arya stabbing the fuck out of that Frey bragging about sewing Greywind’s head on gives me SO MUCH SATISFACTION. Also Sandor being like “TELL ME next time we’re gonna do murder, ok kid?” Is THE BEST.
19. I love that Davos is the one we get to see reading the letter Maester Aemon writes.
20. DAVOS MAKES A CHOICE AND IT’S THE RIGHT ONE. Do you know how to swim?? No. ... Don’t fall out. 😂
21. Jaime is hoooooome in King’s Lannister and I have Lannister feels spilling ALL OVER THE PLACE.
22. Oh right and Dany has a whole bunch of people calling her mom in whatever variety of Valyrian they speak in Yunkai. That was a thing.

Nicki Minaj Puts On Cape To Defend Jesy Nelson After She Was Called Out For “Blackfishing,” Twitter Reacts
Source: Neil Mockford / Getty
Nicki Minaj continues to make Barbz’s jobs even more challenging when it comes to defending her.
Chatter around Nicki Minaj simmered down after the ballsy tweet that had her looking like a COVID-19 vaccine skeptic. The Queens rapper is back in the headlines after deciding to die on a hill protecting former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson after she was called out for “blackfishing” and cultural appropriation in the video for her new super-mid single “Boyz.”
In case y’all missed it, Nicki Minaj, who has a history of working with problematic artists, is featured in the song and in the video that also has a cameo from Diddy. Things got interesting when Instagram user NoHun shared screenshots of  Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock expressing her concerns about Nelson cosplaying as a Black woman. Pinnock also wrote numerous times that Nelson “blocked us,” referring to herself and her current Little Mix band members Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards.
Minaj, who, just can’t seem to stay out of her own way as of late, decided to speak on the matter during an Instagram Live session with Jesy Nelson. In typical Minaj fashion, she attacked the Pinnock, a Black woman, while at the same time pulling the Black woman card.
“Sweetheart, take them text messages and shove it up your f***ing a**,” Minaj said. “When you do clown sh*t, I gotta treat you and talk to you like you a clown. [You] don’t have to come out and try to ruin anyone. Let her enjoy this time.”
Minaj also claimed Leigh-Anne Pinnock was “in this woman’s roof and you ain’t talk about this shit for 10 years.”
“And as soon as you see she got a video coming out with Nicki Minaj and Puffy, now you sending stations text messages and all this sh*t, print those messages out, busy yo ass open and shove it up your motherf***ing a**,” she ridiculously continued.
Nicki Minaj addresses Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne after leaked screenshots allegedly show her criticizing Jesy Nelson for “Blackfishing”:
“If you want a solo career baby just say that… If that’s how you felt, why were you kiki’ing with her & being in videos with her for 10 years…” pic.twitter.com/uyyLezu0SJ
— Pop Crave (@PopCrave) October 11, 2021
Minaj also used the moment to make her return to Twitter to bask in the toxicity that is her fanbase who defend her, even when she is clearly on the wrong side of history.

Twitter, who has been tired of Minaj’s shenanigans as of late, called the rapper out for her treatment of Pinnock. You can peep those in the gallery below.

1.
Jesy Nelson made an entire documentary on BBC about being kind and trolling online, but just sat and laughed as Nicki Minaj slated Leigh-Anne Pinnock to 100k viewers on a live. That just does not sit right with me.

Welp.
2.
Jesy Nelson made an entire documentary about the importance of kindness and online trolling, but happily sat there and laughed as Nicki Minaj ripped Leigh-Anne Pinnock to shreds in front of 100k people on their Instagram live. That shit makes me uncomfortable.

Have you written anything on Jaime's decision at the end of AFFC? Because it's so associated with "Jaime breaking free of toxic Lannister (especially Cersei)" and I just didn't get that vibe from it?
Hi! I don’t think I’ve ever written anything about it because this topic is the wankiest of wank bait, but yeah, like you, I’ve personally never felt that Jaime was “breaking free” of the toxicity of House Lannister from his chapters in AFFC/ADWD.
(I don’t know who or what you’re quoting in this ask, and I mean no offense to whoever is saying that. This is just my opinion on Jaime’s FeastDance chapters and obviously some people interpret it differently and that’s cool. I’m really not looking for wank here.)
So when you say “Jaime’s decision at the end of AFFC” I’m assuming you mean this one?
“No, my lord. The bird was from King’s Landing. I took the liberty … I did not know …” He held the letter out.
Jaime read it in the window seat, bathed in the light of that cold white morning. Qyburn’s words were terse and to the point, Cersei’s fevered and fervent. Come at once, she said. Help me. Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you. Come at once.
Vyman was hovering by the door, waiting, and Jaime sensed that Peck was watching too. “Does my lord wish to answer?” the maester asked, after a long silence.
A snowflake landed on the letter. As it melted, the ink began to blur. Jaime rolled the parchment up again, as tight as one hand would allow, and handed it to Peck. “No,” he said. “Put this in the fire.”
To me, this passage reflects how Jaime really doesn’t have the answers, at least right now: “He found himself wondering what his father would do to feed the realm, before he remembered that Tywin Lannister was dead.”
Cersei makes herself plain: “I love you. I love you. I love you.”
But how does Jaime feel about Cersei? Does he hate her? (And speaking of feelings, what does Jaime feel toward his father, who told him that love was useless? And what of Tyrion, the brother he loved? And what of Br*enne, a true knight from the stories come to life?) Can Jaime even help Cersei? Does he love her? (“The question is, who are you?”) (”Would you sooner have a father or a chair, lad? Jaime wished he knew the answer.”) Can he save her? Does he love her? Does he need her? Does he love her?
Jaime’s a whole mess of conflicted emotions right now, and he wishes things could be like they were:
There was a time, not long ago, when he might have been out making snowballs with the best of them, to fling at Tyrion when he waddled by, or slip down the back of Cersei’s gown. You need two hands to make a decent snowball, though.
But Jaime has only “One hand, clasped tight around the sword hilt. Only one” and really, literally, Jaime has no answers at the moment. So he delays, he demurs. “Put this in the fire.” He is not ready to answer Cersei yet.
“The sooner we are done with Riverrun, the sooner I’ll be back at Cersei’s side.” What Jaime would do then he did not know.
Consider:
“There is sitting and there is sitting, […] Each one [Tywin/Robb] waits for the other to move”
and:
Cersei gave him a lingering look. “You know,” she said, “for a moment you [Jaime] sounded quite like Father.”
I think you also have to consider the context of this decision. The maester reads his mail, and Jaime’s squire who admires and adores him “was watching too” so how could Jaime respond, even if he did have answers? ”Would you sooner have a father or a chair, lad? Jaime wished he knew the answer.” // “The question is, who are you?” // “We are not Targaryens!”
Also, everyone believes that Jaime is still a fearsome swordsman. I don’t think Cersei (or most people, for that matter) realizes that Jaime can’t be her champion. If Jaime were to champion her, Cersei would lose her trial (bad), and Jaime’s secret would be revealed (also bad). Jaime’s relying on his reputation. (And Genna said Jaime wasn’t Tywin’s true heir. Heh.)
How can Jaime explain that he cannot help Cersei, cannot save her, and in a letter, no less? A letter read/written by Vyman, who served Edmure Tully, and Hoster before him? A letter that could easily be intercepted? No, he could not give Cersei an explanation in his letter. He could only give her a refusal, and that would infuriate her. (Does he love her? Does he love her? Does he love her?)
He says these things in ADWD:
Past time this was ended, thought Jaime Lannister. With Riverrun now safely in Lannister hands, Raventree was the remnant of the Young Wolf’s short-lived kingdom. Once it yielded, his work along the Trident would be done, and he would be free to return to King’s Landing. To the king, he told himself, but another part of him whispered, to Cersei.
He would have to face her, he supposed. Assuming the High Septon had not put her to death by the time he got back to the city. “Come at once,” she had written, in the letter he’d had Peck burn at Riverrun. “Help me. Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you. Come at once.” Her need was real enough, Jaime did not doubt. As for the rest … she’s been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and Moon Boy for all I know … Even if he had gone back, he could not hope to save her. She was guilty of every treason laid against her, and he was short a sword hand.
(^^This “She was guilty of every treason…” sort of makes me worried, as if Jaime is perhaps deflecting all the blame for his own treasons onto Cersei, like it doesn’t take two to tango….)
Anyways … I personally wouldn’t describe this as Jaime ~breaking free~ of the Lannister regime when a part of him is looking forward to returning to Cersei.
But I think there’s another part of Jaime that doesn’t want to return to Cersei, which is why he so readily jaunts off with Br*enne to chase his dreams of true knighthood.
That’s the thing about Jaime imo. He’s a man divided. Torn between Lannister crimson and Kingsguard white, between his (older) sister and his baby brother, between Cersei and Br*enne, between one vow and another, between his loyalty to the Lannister regime and his aspirations of true knighthood.
“So many vows … they make you swear and swear. Defend the king. Obey the king. Keep his secrets. Do his bidding. Your life for his. But obey your father. Love your sister. Protect the innocent. Defend the weak. Respect the gods. Obey the laws. It’s too much. No matter what you do, you’re forsaking one vow or the other.“
Jaime’s the middle child, Beauty and Beast both. We first meet him wearing black, but he’s renowned for his kingsguard white, but allegedly “it was that white cloak that soiled” Jaime and reduced him to this grey liminality. He vacillates back and forth, an ever swinging pendulum. One moment he is angered that Gregor would smash Pia’s teeth in, another moment fantasizing that he “smashed his sister’s teeth to splinters with his golden hand, just as Gregor Clegane had done to poor Pia.”
I know I’ve talked about this before, but it’s like Jaime is trying to ride two horses in the Riverlands, and he can’t ride two horses. He’s trying to hold on to everything, Cersei and Tyrion, honor and glory, all that, but now he has only one hand, and he can’t hold on to two things at once any more. “Yet soon or late in every man’s life comes a day when it is not easy, a day when he must choose.”
But Jaime hasn’t come to that choosing yet. “Throw this in the fire.”
In ADWD we see the pendulum swing toward Br*enne, but what will happen in TWOW? How will Jaime feel when he learns his true knight has lied to him, and that even true knights can be grey? I imagine Jaime will feel betrayed. I suspect a second litany of betrayal for Br*enne, analogous to the one for Cersei: “… she’s been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and Moon Boy for all I know …"
“False as fool’s gold.”
After escaping Stoneheart, Jaime will go to King’s Landing at last:
Once he found the Blackfish, he would be free to return to King’s Landing, where he belonged. My place is with my king. With my son.
But I think Jaime arrives to find Tommen dead, and Cersei fled with Myrcella to her last stronghold, Casterly Rock, since KL is about to be destroyed, entirely. And Jaime will have failed yet another king.
Nothing in AFFC/ADWD suggests to me that Jaime’s abandoned the Lannister regime, despite how angry he is at Cersei. He still supports Tommen, and I will bet money that Jaime follows Cersei to CR after the wildfire explosion at the end of TWOW and that he eventually recognizes Myrcella as his queen in the beginning of ADOS.
And I don’t know what’s going to push Jaime over the edge, but I will bet money that Jaime will valonqar Cersei at Casterly Rock in ADOS. I think this is Jaime’s choosing, and I think he will actively choose Lannister toxicity. Strangling your sister/lover sounds like a pretty toxic thing to me, no? idk I could be wrong, who knows.
But I don’t see Jaime actively working to bring down the Lannister regime. idk what happens with Jaime after Cersei’s death, all bets are off once she dies, but at least right now, there’s nothing to me that suggests that Jaime recognizes that Tommen has no right to the Throne, that the Lannisters have no right to sieze Riverrun, no right to hunt the Blackfish, or that the entire government is corrupt, things which I think would be necessary for Jaime to distance himself from the evils of House Lannister?
(I think it’s Tyrion who is beginning to understand that the Lannister regime is wrong, he was the only one calling out Lannister bullshit even when he was in the middle of said bullshit. Tyrion hasn’t yet escaped from Tywin’s dark, toxic shadow, but I think it’s Tyrion who does that, not Jaime.)
TLDR - nope, im like you, i dont get that vibe either. Maybe I’m wrong tho *shrug emoji*

Season 6 Predictions Reviewed and An Epilogue
What a season. The last episodes were absolutely worth of all the build-up. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the endgame, but hopefully it’s not too rushed.
These episodes were an end of an era, for the Children of the Forest, for many houses, for the Essos plotlines and for the politics in King’s Landing. For years the kingdoms fought and the families purged each other so that now, when Daenerys arrives, the seven great houses are in poor shape. (I’m going with show information, where more distant relatives do not count, and it’s far too late to introduce them):
- The Baratheons are dead in name and blood outside Gendry, who may or may not still be alive, and he is a bastard
- There are still some Lannister cousins somewhere, but Kevan’s line has ended, and Tywin’s precious legacy is in the hands of Queen Cersei, first of her name, and Jaime, who she’ll likely try to marry. Who is going to stop her?
- The Tyrells are dead outside Olenna, and while she could have years left in her life, the Tyrells will die with her anyway.
- If something happens to young Robin Arryn, that’s that family as well (oops, Littlefinger, you silly person, be more careful with that knife, you’ll hurt somebody someday)
- The Greyjoys are in a bit better shape. They have as many children alive as they had in the beginning, and Yara might well get that crown. If she and Euron die, that’s a different story.
- The Starks have Sansa, Arya seems like she can handle herself and can come home when she wants, and Jon rules Winterfell, perhaps getting named Stark officially at some point.
- Edmure Tully is back in his cell, but he has a son named Tully. No matter, they don’t rule anything anymore.
- Dorne is ruled by Ellaria Sand in her dead husband’s name. None of the sand snakes were named Martell by my recollection so that name is dead too.
So these are the cats that Daenerys wants to herd? The Bay of Dragons was a nice tutorial, but this… well, the dead cats are coming, so there’s not much time left for these cats to fight each other.
When the season five ended, I had a sudden realization that, after Stannis’ death, Westeros was in peace. It felt weird, and didn’t last long. What is the situation now? Weeelll, currently there’s only one war officially going on (Cersei declared war on Dorne), but it hasn’t started properly yet. Once Daenerys’ ships dock, it’s a different matter. Ellaria, Olenna and Yara have allied themselves with Daenerys, so Cersei’s rule may not be a long one.
Ooh aah, the Targaryen invasion 2: Dragonic Boogaloo has been long promised, and it’s finally here. So are the promised Arya’s revenge, the Winter, some rulers actually taking the Others seriously, DOTHRAKI ON AN OPEN FIELD NED, argh, I can’t handle this. There’s just fourteen episodes left! And half of them I could watch right now if I didn’t want to write about them first. (This is much too fun. I had so much fun with old Mace, or wondering what Margaery was up to, or writing silly small council scenes, and BOOM they all went.)
Now to the prediction results of this season:
I need to get this one out of my system first: Benjen Stark appears, and dies soon after. It should happen any season now.
He appeared, but isn’t dead (yet)! My strategy of predicting this every time finally paid off!
At the end of the season, there is or has been a White Walker on the south side of the Wall. The winds of winter come.
Not yet, but they killed their original creators and are ready to attack now that the winter is here, so it shouldn’t be long now.
Melisandre resurrects Jon, and she and Davos become his councillors. The Night’s Watch is not fine. Like, at all. Jon gets a small group of new men from somewhere but that’s not enough.
Otherwise true (especially about the Night Watch), but they don’t get new men, Jon takes the wildlings south for a small excursion.
Bran appears, and can already do some magic. He has to choose if he is ready to fight yet or if he has to leave Jon to fight alone while he practises more.
...No, he is learning stuff from the root guy up until he accidentally lowers the place’s defences, and then he travels to the Wall. Not much choosing, per se.
Rickon appears as well, Ramsay finds out where he is. There’s more Osha.
All true, but there was much less Osha than I would have liked.
Sansa and Theon are alive… Sansa’s plot this season has nothing to do with marriages. Like the one about Osha, this is a wish masked as a prediction.
They were alive, and besides fighting to make her current husband an ex-husband, it was not the “You are going to marry X”-type of marriage plotline which I meant with what I said.
Littlefinger… will not fight the Boltons openly, despite of what he said to Cersei. He’s a liar like that. But he will have more land at the end of the season than he starts with.
Oh, but he did. Surprise. Not for Cersei, but for Sansa. No more land, but Jon and Sansa are in debt to him, and he has Robin eating from his hand.
Walder Frey will appear and die. So will Balon Greyjoy, the last survivor of the Five Kings of that famous war, and he has survived it by being off-screen for two seasons. Yara takes the Iron Islands after killing those who challenge her.
Both deaths happened, and Yara is planning to do just that.
Cersei will mess things up bad. I’m talking about riots on the streets bad. Jaime dying protecting his last child bad. King’s Landing becoming a theocracy bad. Lannisters (including Tommen “Baratheon”) will come down hard. When Daenerys arrives, she’s going to ask “Wait, where are all those whom I was going to give some sweet revenge? This is not fair guys”
Well, the sept is a mess, even with all the purging she did there. Jaime didn’t die, but Tommen did come down hard. Now it’s Cersei versus everyone so I’d say it’s a mess, even if she currently sits on the throne.
Kevan is now the Hand of the King. I’d say good luck, but it wouldn’t help. He won’t be the Hand at the end of the season.
No, he wasn’t. That’s the lot of the Hands.
Olenna will be awesome as always. Mace too, at least in my head. Margaery will survive her trial, I’m not so sure about Loras. Let’s say yes, or rather that there is no proper trial.
Olenna awesome, check. Mace awesome in my head, check. Margaery survived her trial, check. Loras survived his trial, but not Cersei’s, check. Proper trial… well, confession by coercion is not proper, but it was expected. Then the whole thing blew up.
Sam, Gilly and the baby get to the Citadel in one piece, and Sam studies stuff. Hijinks happen. I can’t be any more specific.
No room for hijinks or studying yet. Hopefully next season. There’s always the next season until there isn’t.
Ellaria and the Sand Snakes disappear before they can be captured. Doran tries to settle things peacefully but Cersei can’t have that. The peace that set upon Westeros when Stannis died will last maybe the first episode.
Disappear? How about “kill Doran and his heir and rule the country”, instead? The peace ended when Jon, Sansa and Ramsay started their war, but Cersei managed to declare war on Dorne in the end.
Arya… you know what, I’m not even going to predict anything. Things happen.
They sure did. I’m a seer (which she wasnt)!
Daenerys gets revenge on the Dothraki who left when Drogo fell from his horse, and at the end of the season is ready to move to Westeros to break some wheels. Tyrion and Varys surprisingly get things done in Meereen, but not in a way that Daenerys likes.
It wasn’t specified if these were the same khals who deserted Drogo, but for the sake of closure I’m going to say yes. The rest happened, too.
Jorah gets worse, but will he get healed or die? I’d say that the odds are towards dying, of the sickness or otherwise.
No word of his situation. The disease moves much slower than I thought.
Was that everybody important? Maybe. Some more names to be certain I didn’t miss anybody: Thorne (will die after his betrayal), Tormund (will die if the Watch moves against the wildlings), Brienne and Pod (Brienne will take the Boltons as her next target, Pod will follow), Blackfish Tully, Edmure Tully, Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr (are likely not seen during this season)... Gendry! If he is back in Flee Bottom he could be a recognizable face during the riots.
All those names that I listed as “likely not seen during this season” were seen. Brienne and Pod found Sansa and so could do other errands for her, Tormund didn’t die (note the if clause, I wasn’t wrong!), Thorne died and Gendry… wasn’t seen. Well you can’t get everyone.
Well, if that’s everybody, let’s check the random generator for the five deaths it gives. For comparison, my list of the likeliest ones is Benjen Stark, Walder Frey, Balon Greyjoy, Alliser Thorne and Jaime Lannister. Well Jaime is perhaps not that likely but he is worth more points if I got him right.
The computer says (for the record, there were 50 names on the list):
Roose Bolton, Melisandre, Osha, Jaime Lannister and Tyrion Lannister. That’s quite a list. The least likely ones to die were High Sparrow, Daenerys and Gilly. That sounds right too. We’ll see.
Three for me, two for the random number generator. That’s a record for both. Now, I’ll find my skis and wait for the real winter.

Predictions for the Sixth Season of Game of Thrones
I got the DVD, so here goes. I can watch the episodes in just the pace that I want, which will likely mean more than a week between updates (a lot more than a week, based on how long it took to find time for this prediction post. I skipped the ruminations post entirely, this has about the same purpose and I want to watch the first episode now).
Anyway, sixth season, huh. It’s been a long journey. So many characters can’t join us anymore, some good ones, some bad ones. I have thought a lot about how so many say that this is a world where good people can’t survive, that evil prevails and so on, but it’s not like the villains do any better than the good guys in the long run, right? Ned lost his head but Joffrey didn’t outlive him for long, Tywin lived long enough to see his precious legacy starting to crumble, Theon hasn’t had nice three seasons and so on. I doubt that Ramsay, Roose or Ellaria have happy endings either.
To the predictions:
I need to get this one out of my system first: Benjen Stark appears, and dies soon after. It should happen any season now.
