The Fanon: IF HE WAS GIVEN A CHANCE TO HAVE A REDEMPTION ARC, NAPPA WOULD BE EVERYONE’S FAVORITE BALD UNCLE/FATHER FIGURE!

I know I’m using the same meme reaction pic and using the same sort of glossing over the Bad Guy’s Bad Guy traits headcanon thing here as I did last time on @radmanraditz {over here}, but you and I never get tired of the Eric Andre memes and this is a topic I have yet to really talk about with you or anyone else in an ask so here we go!

Now, do I love me that fun #Dappa stuff here on this blog? Yeah! It’s fun, it’s cute and all that good stuff, but something I don’t want to ever gloss over is the fact that…

Nappa’s also an elitist, sadistic, temperamental jerk too. In canon, that was more often than not since he’s one of the major ANTAGONISTS of the Saiyan Saga.

Even if he was able to have a redemption arc, I highly doubt he’d be everyone’s favorite Uncle/Father figure. Nor would he be buddies with everyone. While I will vouch for him being probably the nicest of the original trio of Saiyans, he also displays obvious disdain for the main cast and other aliens he considers weak and inferior to himself. Heck, he still cops an attitude with Tien in FighterZ even when he himself acknowledges in the game that he’s one of the weakest fighters in the storyline. And as you can see, Tien is a good example of someone who probably would never be one of his “biggest fans.”

I don’t really get to showcase these aspects of Nappa as much as I’d like to, because lately he’s only been interacting with muses who look up to him or have some respect for him. Thus he shows more respect back and his more congenial personality ends up seeming like the norm. Especially since a lot of my activity IC is in verses where he’s gotten some form of a redemption arc. However, I also try to make sure to never erase Nappa’s negative bad guy traits completely, even if he gets some character development. If there’s an opportunity to throw in a backhanded compliment, some of his judgmental thoughts, sadism, dark humor, humor at another’s expense, some moodiness etc, I am sure to jump all over that. Because that’s part of who he is as a memorable villain of Dragonball Z.

2. are there any tropes that pull you in or that you realise are reoccuring in your muses?

// not so much. i don’t read a lot of tvtropes, so if i do, it’s not by my knowledge. i just try to stick to canon as much as possible with a few exceptions (such as making lupin bisexual when he’s supposed to be straight in the original content (but let’s face it, he’s the farthest thing from straight!!))

edit: on second thought, the main trope, if you will, is that i always play the titular character--or main protagonist of whatever series i’m rping for.

5. who is / was your favourite muse of all time to play?

// who was my favorite before lupin? the warden. his wacky antics actually remind me a fair bit of lupin, and the more i talk about those days, the more i wanna draw lupin in the style of superjail! …maybe i will.

who is my favorite now? lupin, obviously. god, he’s been the most fun overall.

15. which muses of yours have currently very dead fandoms?

// lupin’s was very dead when i started almost three years ago. now, it’s starting to see a resurgence, especially in fanart and screencaps in the tags. in terms of role-players, i don’t see very many pop up, and the ones that do tend to drop off after awhile. maybe one day, it’ll be bustling with activity, but personally, i’m pretty content with it as it is.

While she had been doing rather well to mix in with the Jurains, Fang was still out of place among them. No matter how she tried to respect their culture and their ways, she was a different breed. Nonetheless, she did feel welcomed by Ayeka and those who respected the princess. It was a connection Fang was quite thankful for even if it came as a surprise to others.

Her words reached her while Fang was half lost in thought. There had been a bit of a scuffle and Fang had ended the brawl before it could get worse with force she hadn't meant to unleash. Power she realized made her a match for the strength of the Jurians but also sparked soldiers to emerge and round on her. They would have arrested her had Ayeka not intervened.

Time had passed to where she was resting with the princess in an area of peace. Her words snapped her out of her thoughts however and she took the time to look to her. Did she understand how those simple words made her feel? Warmth radiated from her chest out through her muscles and body. The once heavy shoulder of hers felt considerably lighter by Ayeka's voice as well with how she spoke those words.

"It is, but there are also things we do for one another too that I'm sure neither of us has voiced. You bring me a great deal of peace when you are so close to me, you know. Your voice, your laughter, your wisdom, all continue to surprise me in the best ways. In all honesty, you have gotten me to fall in love with you."

how do you feel about Sasami?

‘I have a hard time believing she’s Ayeka’s sister. I mean just look at her…’

This little girl is far too sweet and pure to be related to Ayeka, but more importantly having a mother like Masaki. Devil woman with a smile.

‘She…grew a lot on me. Completely parallel to Ayeka when we first met and those first couple of months were pretty rough between all the arguing and damaging the house with all the fights, but Sasami….definitely tries to be a peacekeeper of sorts. That and she never once had anything ill to say bout’ me or even anything I did in the past…’

Not once. Much like Ayeka, she figured she had ever right to be angry and then some. Even though it’s fully understood why it happened…Ryoko couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt  on her shoulders. Before she always felt pretty indifferent, since death and destruction seemed almost like the unfortunate norm for her back then as her sense of empathy was lost.

But now? It bothered her.

Even after all this time she still can’t figure out a proper way to even apologize to them, much less bring that up. All the more reason she didn’t mind the majority of Ayeka’s verbal abuse or attempt to deflect it most times. If someone was going to tell her she was garbage it might as well be the princess. Yet, Sasami was just too good to her. Best she got off with was a light scold and pout that could pull at your heart strings.

‘Even calls me oneesama these days too…’ Why?

She didn’t deserve it.

‘Ayeka’s pretty lucky to have a little sister like that, ya know?’

12. Do you believe rp’ing a ship adds to character development?

Oh it definitely can! Especially if you’re shipping with a muse and mun who brings out more of your muse’s other sides and parts of their personality that other characters might not be able to see! Is a ship needed for character development to happen? 

NOPE! OF COURSE NOT! 

Just look at how much being a #Dappa brings out Nappa’s other dimensions as a character! 

And after all I’ve been through, I’m EXTREMELY wary of people who come off as/are ship-centric without having other kinds of relationships going on with their muse. Ships are nice. I know, I’ve written far more than I can count off the top of my head, but they’re not the end-all-be-all for roleplay. Friendships and familial bonds are fun and add to character development too! 

But since this meme is about shipping...

A romantic relationship will bring out other sides to a muse that those other relationships won’t of course. If friends are turning into lovers then that also builds a new layer to that relationship too. After all, there’s only so much of a person a friend might see in their friend crush. There’s certainly a lot Nappa doesn’t know about Poharu still. And he’s learning some of those things in very interesting ways.

Haida makes some really great statements in Aggretsuko that explains how prior to forming a relationship, you only know the idealized version of this person you like. It’s something my muses are experiencing in their romantic relationships since all of my current ones have some sort of interaction going on at the start of things leaving the friend zone:

This can be applied to roleplaying a muse in general too. There’s only so much your HCs and portrayal ideas can tell you about the muse you’re playing. Even other ships with the same muse SHOULD be different with different muses as their partners. Just like in real life. 

Morals and views can change when certain people enter your life too. Sometimes specific circumstances can happen with a certain muse you’re interacting with and suddenly your muse who is against doing most PDA things for the sake of his own modesty and pride for his public image being a certain way might find himself getting really into smoochin’ someone special in broad daylight on the street! [GASPS IN SPANISH!]

Not every muse you come across will be able to get your muse in a compromising situation like the one mentioned above, even if they try doing the exact same things. Neither is such a situation always going to be something “going against character.” For the above example, we all know I’m talking about Nappa and Poharu. Nappa’s usual attitude towards doing something like that didn’t cause him to put a stop to things because he’s also impulsive and has been crushin’ on that lady for over a year. Because I write Nappa like he’s a person, I allow him to be complex and make exceptions sometimes. Allow him to get swept away in the moment because that was something I saw as totally being IC of him to do with Poharu. I don’t know if you’d call that character development, but it’s something I wouldn’t have expected before doing the flower confession thread. So maybe that’s more like character discovery?

I’ve sadly seen people try to explain radical changes to their character, and contradicting/hypocritical statements and actions as “character development” for the sake of making a ship work. That’s not development, that’s a form of force-shipping. And that’s no bueno. It’s easy to see when a muse is breaking character though. There is a constant disconnect between their actions and their words/stated morals given IC or OOC. 

But yeah. Development with shipping can be fun and very rewarding, but for me personally, it has to be done in a way where there’s natural chemistry between characters and some sort of strong bond. I’m a fan of slow burns, and while things escalated faster between Nappa and Poharu than I expected, that also works with their personalities, and how they met and developed their friendship etc. (They also happen to be very good at flirting with each other.) There’s always a lot that can be learned throughout a relationship too. It all depends on what works with the muses.

Some characters need a lot more time to open up emotionally, and to develop as a person in order to properly be in a healthy relationship too. Like Raditz. With a character like him, you really can’t rush into things unless you wanna be in a toxic relationship, or a casual dating/physical only type of ship. Yet sooooo many people think he’s the guy to go to when you need to be coddled and have their muses’ emotional issues get solved. 

Huh...this T is suddenly so bitter. Wonder why.
