You Came Along on a Rainy Day

Prompt: Getting caught in the rain without an umbrella for @voltagefandomproject

Gin x Cel (OC), Modern AU

Setting: Gin and Cel as office workers 💼 / unrelated to the other modern au that features them as office workers

Note: Cel is the fic persona of my friend who wants to chase after Ginnojo in any universe.

It was not Ginnojo’s day. He was known to be a put together person but somehow it was just not his day. His brother broke his umbrella the other day so he borrowed Ginnojo’s for his school field trip.

He didn’t even bother to check the weather forecast. He should have bought an umbrella at the convenience store near his home before heading to the station. It must have been the nerves. No matter how put together he usually is, he didn’t expect that he would actually get this nervous on his first day at work.

He was in front of the train station. His new workplace was still a few blocks away. He was considering how he can get there on time while still looking presentable. It was impossible. He could get there on time but he needed to sacrifice looking presentable. Should he opt to wait out the rain, he would surely be late which would not make for a good impression on his first day.

There was still some time left for him to run if the rain were to let up but it showed no sign of stopping soon. He was inclined to run as long as he made it on time, thinking that they would understand given the weather. Just as he resolved to make a run for it, a woman’s voice called his name.

“Ginnojo?”

The voice seemed familiar to his ears. He did not expect a woman’s voice to call out to him since he didn’t have any female acquaintances. He turned to look at the woman at his side which he recognized instantly as his supervisor. He did not expect to see her in this manner.

“Ms. Cel?” he replied with wide eyes.

“Why are you still here?” she asked as her eyes scanned him. Then, she exclaimed in realization, “Oh, I see that you don’t have an umbrella with you.”

He felt his blood rush to his face. He bowed to hide his embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry! My brother borrowed my umbrella..and I.. I didn’t expect it to rain this hard in the morning. It was irresponsible of me.”

He heard her laugh and she said, “Please raise your head. I was not trying to reprimand you and it’s definitely not something you need to apologize for. Things like this just happen sometimes. You don’t have to be too hard on yourself. I thought this too during our interview but you don’t have to be too serious all the time. Cheer up! It must be a good stroke of luck that we met here.” 

She smiled at him. It looked too bright for his eyes and he felt his blood rush to his face once more.

“Come on, at this rate we might be late. I don’t suppose you plan to run all the way to the office with this rain?” she asked with an eyebrow raised.

“Um, I actually considered doing that just now before you called out to me.”

“Then, it’s lucky that I recognized you. Let’s get going, any later and we might really be late.”

They walked together under Cel’s umbrella. Ginnojo was relatively taller than Cel so Cel had to bring the umbrella higher. Ginnojo offered to carry it instead. He made sure that the umbrella tilted more to Cel.

After a while, Cel spoke, “Hey, why won’t you come closer?”

“Pardon?” he asked with knitted brows.

“Your left shoulder is getting wet. Move closer.”

Ginnojo was already feeling awkward enough with having to share an umbrella with his female superior but now she wants him to get closer. Since she is his superior, he felt the need to acquiesce to the request so he moved a little closer, taking care not to let their shoulders bump into each other. 

Cel looked over at him once more and this time, she took Ginnojo’s arm, which was holding the umbrella, and pulled him closer. “I told you to get closer. You’re still getting wet. The rain is pouring harder now. Good thing that we’re almost there.”

Ginnojo couldn’t agree more because he couldn’t wait to step away from Cel. Their closeness was making his heart beat erratically. They were busy walking forward so he was grateful that she wouldn't notice his blushing face. 

She’s made me blush a lot ever since we met. How many times does that make now? 

He felt like he needed to get used to her soon since they would be seeing each other more as colleagues. He wouldn’t want to get a heart attack with how their interactions went.

Thankfully, the both of them got to work on time. Ginnojo’s first day at work finally began with Cel showing him the ropes.

By the time that they were about to clock out, the rain was still pouring. The weather report said that a typhoon was indeed coming and it was the reason for the heavy rains.

Ginnojo had already bought an umbrella during his break. He resolved to never let himself go outside without bringing an umbrella again to prevent any unfortunate event later on. Cel left a little earlier because she still had some documents to submit at the administrative office before clocking out. 

Just as he left the office, he heard a female voice call out to somebody else. 

“Hiro!” she said.

He was sure that it didn’t concern him so he continued on his way. To his surprise, a pair of arms squeezed him. He felt stiff with the sudden development.

“Hiro, let’s talk about this…”

The unknown girl who was hugging him was whispering things he didn’t understand. He didn’t even know who this girl was. A sudden thought occurred to him as he stood frozen, his coworkers earlier said that he resembled someone from the marketing department. Maybe she mistook him for me, he thought. His coworkers did say that they almost thought it was him when they entered the office and saw his back.

I think they mentioned something about a quarrel with his girlfriend from our department so they thought he dropped by to see her. It was unusual if he did drop by, they said, because the girl is out on official business.

Just as he was about to tell her that she got the wrong person, a guy showed up at the opposite end of the corridor. He looked at the two of them and suddenly ran off.

The girl immediately let go of him and ran after the guy, calling after him. 

He breathed a sigh of relief and suddenly realized that he might have to do some explaining tomorrow when he formally met that girl from their department. What he didn’t notice was that someone else was in that same corridor who was now looking at him. 

“Ms. Cel? I thought you were at the administrative office?” he asked her.

“Well, I was. But I forgot some of the documents that I needed to hand in so I came back. I didn’t expect to find you getting hugged by Rina,” she replied punctuated by laughter as she walked towards their office.

“The others said that your back looks a lot like Hiro but I didn’t expect that his girl would mistake you for him.”

Her laughter made his face flush in embarrassment. 

“I… I didn’t have time to react at all,” he mumbled as a response to her teasing.

“No worries. You can tell her about it tomorrow. I’ll introduce you to her. Come on, let’s go. Don’t just keep standing there. Someone else might hug you.” 

Cel kept on laughing at her joke and Ginnojo followed after her. Ginnojo could already imagine that the next day would be eventful again. Despite getting teased by his superior, he didn’t mind it. Instead, he felt like he would be gaining lots of new experiences in this company.

I'm kidding, but Gin's outfit is mostly a copy of the clothes Hijikata is wearing in that famous photo of his (it's that photo that is such a big deal in Gin's route)

In the Behind the Scenes they showed that originally they even wanted to make the costume even more of a one-for-one copy of Hijikata's outfit, but they changed their mind/made it more fantasy-like:

Bungo Stray Dogs: my thoughts

So I'm not caught up on the manga (I'm trying). But I caught up on the anime and

I actually screamed at the second to last ep.

*Spoilers ahead*

I COULDNT HANDLE CHUUYA - AS A "VAMPIRE" - SHOOTING DAZAI. OH MY GOD.

But everything is okay because that's not the case. But I also watched it in Dub (bc I was trying to cruise through it because its been a hot minute since I've caught up on anime) and DAZAI SAID FUCK AND IM LIVING FOR IT! Chuuya too. I was giggling like a maniac when I heard Chuuya say "You fucked up, detective agency!" Then continue to fuck up the Hunting Dogs.

PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME IS TACHIHARA OKAY?!?!? (I swear I'm reading the manga. This weekend I'm planning on reading it all the way.)

Also, I absolutely loved seeing how the agency was formed. What got me was Yosuno and her ties to the mafia. I literally doubletake-d and screamed "WhaT??" and my family thought I was nuts. Maybe I am. Its fine.

But s5 broke my heart and I'm like, over it. I need some Shin Soukoku fighting together again.

Also, can we talk about Ranpoe??? I absolutely love them, and I think they're now my third favourite ship in the series. Behind SSK and SSKK, of course. I dunno if I could see most of the ships. But, no hate to it if you do ship it because I believe we should ship what we want without judgement (FICTIONAL CHARACTERS MEN! FICTIONAL CHARACTERS!), I absolutely despise Fyozai. I just... no.

Though I do think Fyodor was a very cool character—a little boring—but interesting. Especially with his understanding of Dazai's intellect. Now I think the character with the most depth is Ranpo. Like, man's backstory - the little we know, is quite interesting. It makes me think about a lot.

Also, why is the story character based, not world based, when we know so much more about the world than we do the characters?? Like we know a little about a lot of the characters but know a lot about the world. It's insane. I love character based stories because I feel knowing the characters builds the world.

But the most we know is: Atsushi is an abused orphan; Dazai is an ex mafia member; Kenji is scary; Ranpo is an orphan too who is actually gifted with intellect instead of an ability - though it kind of is an ability; Fukuzawa is an ex assassin; Yosuno hates her ability because she was forced by Mori to keep soldiers alive during the gifted war when they just wanted to die; Kunikida is an ex maths teacher; Chuuya is a human that was experimented on so he's basically part yōkai/ayakashi (Thank you Noragami for introducing me to that delightful word—it's basically a word to describe supernatural beings/creatures and lord knows what Chuuya actually is); Tanizaki is... I don't remember anything specific about him and Naomi...; Tachihara is not a mafia member but rather a military officer sworn to get revenge on Yosuno (she didn't do anything except keep his brother alive - poor babies. She was forced to as well, which, in my opinion, makes it worse); Akutagawa is sick (I swear to god if the series ends without him...); Gin is Akutagawa's sister (HC Gin is enby); Mori was an underground doctor before he slit the previous bosses throat.

Like barely anything about a single character. Just bits and pieces for each. Those are just the main ones I remember.

I had a bit of a hiatus while dealing with real life and shit, but I finally got around to playing all the games I know have been translated into English. Here’s the ultimate ranking of all the variations of my otome husbando.

Destined to Love (Cybird)

Please please please can you pull this app and redo it as Ikémen Bakumatsu with Yamada doing the art? I cannot deal with Okita, Sōji Okita of the Shinsengumi, whose swordmanship is nothing short of legendary, looking like some edgy marshmallow. C’mon, guys. You’re taking all sorts of liberties with history already, why stop there and not make him look the part? Just make Hijikata even hotter, everything will be fine.

Era of Samurai: Code of Love (Voltage)

Still one of my favourites even after venturing into the realm of premium games, although he looks too much like Leon for my liking (I guess that’s what you get with Voltage and also a byproduct of my refusal to even contemplate ever liking that lion even though, like for Iori in SITS, I clearly do and I just refuse to admit it, although I did exactly that a moment ago). His modern AU stereotypical indie kid version is everything. It’s like they made him for me.

Hakuoki (Otomate/Idea Factory)

Why do I love this Morikubo-voiced jerk more than my actual life? I have many questions to ask of myself and I don't even know if I really want to know the answers, but I have spent about £50 so he can be on my wall alongside another less jerky Morikubo character in what is slowly and not deliberately turning into a shrine to the man himself since his characters dominate my merch purchases. (Author’s note: This post has been a cumulative draft over a year or so, and I wrote this pre-Piofiore. It’s only gone worse since)

He’s hella cute and double-faced, which I tend to like, but also he appears to go through every trope I don’t like in the span of a conversation. 6/10, although solid 10 for looks. In fact, make it 20/10. Top 3 for looks with Voltage and Hakuoki.

Ninja Shadow

I keep forgetting that I did play this Okita (and it was my first while at that...) but even with that dream ponytail it’s not the greatest version. He’s a jokester, which is fun, and he hides a big dollop of angst as it’s right and just, but he was a bit OTT with the humour and it’s a strange storyline that does him a disservice.

Bakumatsu Renka Shinsengumi

If he doesn’t threaten to kill you is he even Okita? I’m living for that one CG that looks like he is Kondō and Hijikata’s kid, but aside from it being probably the most historically accurate of the otome portrayals (at least in localised games) he started off a bit of a disappointment for the same reason as Destined to Love. He was also not helped by the fact that Shinpachi has a brain, Sakamoto and Yamazaki exist and (omg, can’t believe I’m saying this) Hijikata and that line about loving his woman in Sanan’s route. However, when actually playing his scenes etc, he grew on me. I would happily go raise cats and babies with him like I would with his Hakuoki and Era of Samurai incarnations.

I have questions. Why is this version Iba’s lovechild with Saito?

Why is he like Gin in Ayakashi Gohan if he was a soldier? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a major sucker for lovely characters going full on deadly from a moment to the next, so I’m digging it, I’m just extremely disoriented because Voltage is my canon Okita personality (Hakuoki took that and turned it up a notch and ruined my life in the process) and every deviation I’m like “new number who dis?”

It took him 10 chapters to show a hint of the teasing we all know and love. TEN. Out of like 15. I have had three kids with Tokugawa by now (and I don’t even do blondes. Except Ayumu. And best boy. And omg I’m still in the Kiro phase but also could be a Helios phase soooo 🫣 okay, fine, I do blondes). It was really cute tho and I watched him die in the good ending which is a plus.

Random facts about Michi bc I feel like it

Her favorite color is blue.

She takes her job as ambassador very seriously, and strives to show her father she's worthy of the role he gifted her (she did fear that, what she came out, he might disown her, so the fact that he still wanted to have her play an important part in the village means a lot to her). However, as seriously as she presents herself for business, she can be a little overdramatic with those she's close to.

Her alcohol tolerance is legendary within the village. For comparison, she couldn't best Gin, but could absolutely leave Oji and Koga in the dust.

She has learned the hard way that she doesn't like train rides.

Her time spent with Kagemaru is basically girl time, including nail painting and doing each other's hair. When I say they do not talk about the details of their lives I mean it-if one is going to visit another ayakashi village, the most the other will hear (if anything) is 'I'm going to be gone for a bit. ' No dates, times, places, details-nothing. It's not uncommon for one to show up at their meeting spot and the other just not show up without notice.

Once Kage tried to teach her to dance like a geisha. It ended horribly.

She's trying to like milk tea, but she doesn't find the appeal of it. But Shizuki made it for her so she's gonna savor every drop!

She backs Toichiro in the battle for succession. She's well aware of the risk she's putting herself in by showing favoritism, especially if another of her brothers become village leader, but she does think him the most suitable choice. The two of them got along in a lukewarm sense when they were younger due to being pitted against each other (they were on better terms with each other than most of the candidates were, but not friendly), and now they seem to be making up for lost time. Especially in the teasing department.

Toichiro was actually her first sibling to call her 'sister'...specifically when introducing her to Shizuki for the first time. She was still just starting to figure herself out at the time, and dealing with a lot of backlash over her coming out (this was before their father made her ambassador), so having him affirm that role was very special to her.

I always get the last minute scare of whether I fell out of T10 or not. I blame my hoarder self that always wants to save on resources. The best thing would be that the dias I spent are less than the reward I got so I still got something out of ranking! (◠‿◠✿)

Akira found them in the forest with wounds, near deadly and gave them part of his powers to keep alive. Kin & Gin became Akira’s spirit guardians. They can transform into silver and gold magical foxes with fire-tails. Akira raise them like his own children. That is why they call him Master and Father both. All this happened before Akira became a demon and lost his temple and guardians.
