The Garden The garden acts to a certain extent as a counterpoint to the rest of the typological references and to the urban condition that they create. As such it occupies a large part of the proposal: The larger part of the open area on the north of the site forms a large garden – more organized at some places while following freer at other. At the same time, fragments of the garden are dispersed within the ‘urban’ part of the rest of the proposal forming green areas that meet and graft with urbanity and ultimately transforming counterpoint into modulation and transcription. . 6. The street The condition in-between all the others. It leads to them, but at the same time it acts as their buffer zone and if effect it expands them. The lignite in the open-pit mine Inden, North Rhine-Westphalia, is extracted with bucket-wheel excavators (1). The conveyor belts (2) transport residue material to stockpiles (3) and the lignite uphill to the Weisweiler coal power plant (4). The diverted section of the Inde River runs around the mine as a reclaimed landscape (5). The open lidar data was subsampled, segmented, colored by height, type and slope. The point cloud model, visualized here in axonometry, is available for 3D view/download in the link.

The point cloud model shows a geological feature at the Bonito lava flow near the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. The Sunset Crater (not shown in this model) is a 305 meters tall cinder cone that erupted sometime around 1085 CE. Normals calculated on the point geometry highlight the slope of the terrain.

The Lidar was collected for the National Park Service for inventory and monitoring of Sunset Crater Volcano’s unique resources. The objective of this procurement was to acquire a high-resolution bare-earth digital elevation models of the park with an accuracy ranging from 0.15 meter to 0.50 meter.
