Background: Aurora was born Aurora Trullings in 542 LY in the rural countryside. She was the oldest of three children. When Durtal was still Rostanel, Aurora’s father, Glenn Trullings, had fallen ill with a debilitating disease. Since he was unable to work, his wife Paula would be away from home in the marketplace trying to sell foodstuffs to travelers going through Morningstone. Aurora, being the oldest child, learned to cook and provide for her father and two younger brothers. 

She grew in wisdom and skill in the culinary arts and picked up a few tactics in selling the food she made from her mother. After she turned 20, her father passed away after a long bout with cancer. Once that happened, Aurora was able to spend more time with her mother in town. 

A cute librarian’s apprentice, a human named Wolfgang Rendarius, would often stop by Aurora and Paula’s merchant stand. It became apparent soon that he didn’t just show up for the freshly baked meatpies and pastries every day. 

A few kisses and shared secrets later, Aurora and Wolfgang married, then a few months later, Aurora had her only son, Tomas. There were complications with her birth, but priests of Lathander, the god of birth, dawn, and renewal, blessed mother and child so that both survived the process. From that point on, Aurora, and eventually Tomas, were converted to the Lathanderian faith. Wolfgang was skeptical about religion, but he at least figured the Lathanderian priests were all right. While he never fully accepted the Lathanderian or any other faith, he never got in the way of his wife’s or son’s worship.

She brought Tomas to the Lathanderian temple for worship every week, praying that her son would grow up to be strong and wise. For fourteen years, there didn’t seem to be anything that would shake her faith...until the First Invasion. 

Unbeknownst to her, she was of the demonic bloodline of Bescevius, Lord of Storms. She, like many others in Durtal, suddenly turned into tieflings. She couldn’t remember what exactly happened, but electrical burns adorned her back when she looked at herself in the mirror. 

With Durtal overrun by tieflings and full-fledged demons, it was unsafe for her. Tomas was nowhere to be found, and it seemed that Wolfgang would never forgive her for something she did, calling her a monster who killed his wife. Without a home to return to, she took to the woods, hiding from the onslaught of demon hunters formed in response to the phenomenon.

A voice directed her to travel to an isolated spot on the woods if she wanted to survive. She entered a dark portal and found herself within the Nine Hells, face-to-face with Bescevius himself. From there, she was given an ultimatum: either become Bescevius’s personal slave within the Nine Hells or become a succubus and continue living on the surface. Either choice was awful...but there was a small glimmer of hope in her heart that, perhaps, she wouldn’t have to live as a succubus forever.

After having recently shifted to a tiefling, Aurora changed once more, growing wings. The more prominent changes came in the way she smelled and tasted things. No longer did food and drink have any savor for her, her appetite only being satisfied by drawing from the virility of men.

This was her fate for four years, wrecking homes and robbing men of their innocence just to survive. When she got hungry, her mind was only focused on satisfying her hunger, but after feeding, she could only feel shame for what she had to do. It broke her heart even more to notice just how many men of the cloth of various faiths, including Lathandic priests and paladins, so willingly succumbed to her wiles. 

As a succubus, she had the ability to appear as a regular human, but within certain circles and locations, appearing in her full succubus form attracted more attention than in human form, especially with many men of faith. She supposed the newly refreshed taboo associated with attracting Infernal women made her that much more tantalizing. 

Then, one day, after feeding from a man, she felt...hunger, the same hunger she felt from before she became a succubus. Could it have been that she somehow regained a regular appetite? She flew to town and paid for a meal in a tavern, a pasta with savory sauces and various ground meats. Upon tasting it and feeling how it filled her, Aurora burst into tears in the middle of the tavern. It was likely a comical sight, seeing a woman cry from food that tasted so good, but after not being able to eat normally for nearly half a decade, it was no wonder Aurora cried. 

She finished her meal quickly, wondering what could have happened to almost completely erase her immoral appetites. What she did know was that her obligation to Bescevius was no more. With regained control of her life, she does her best to renew the lifestyle she’d lost, cooking, baking, and selling her creations for profit. 

Unfortunately, she lost the natural ability to change her appearance to that of a human’s. With her naturally magic background, she could have learned the spell as easily as any other magically attuned person. Nonetheless, the knowledge of what she’d done to sustain herself for so long keeps her from performing the spell, thinking that she’d lived too long as a monster to try to hide what she is now. 

It’s hard for Aurora to get much traction as a fresh food merchant within Durtal, but her reputation from town tart to traveling chef has been slowly growing since her liberation. She hopes to one day meet the person responsible for her chance at a new life.
