(The New Yorker) — Last winter, on a cold pitch in London, Liverpool’s women’s team played Chelsea, which was on a seventeen-game unbeaten streak and has lately been one of the dominant teams in English women’s soccer. It was the fourth round of the F.A. Cup, a knockout competition known for the occasional surprise. Liverpool scored twice—but Chelsea had Samantha Kerr. In the thirty-second minute, the twenty-nine-year-old striker received a pass from her teammate Niamh Charles, mid-run, raised a foot near the height of her shoulder, and pummelled the ball left to right into the top corner of the goal. Shortly after halftime, she scored again, off a quick pass, after stepping into a blind spot behind a Liverpool defender. Later, the ball came her way in the air. She jumped, the neck muscles turned, the ball fell in. When the game ended, the score was Liverpool 2, Kerr 3. “It was almost a given, wasn’t it?” a commentator murmured, before it was through.
Afterward, Kerr hugged her teammates and exchanged the customary back pats. Game-changing goals are routine for her—they seem to define the entire season for others. Like all of soccer’s great strikers, Kerr has a full menu of ways to score; commentators like to call it a knack, or an eye for goal. But, with Kerr, it’s all about motion. “Next time you watch her play, see who makes the first movements,” Emma Hayes, her coach at Chelsea, once said. “It’s always Sam.” Carli Lloyd, a two-time World Cup winner with the U.S. team, told me, “She’s a sniper in front of the goal. She will hover, and she will find a way.” Between 2017 and 2022, Kerr was the top scorer in every league she played in, across the highest tiers of Australia, the United States, and England—sometimes simultaneously. It has been nearly four years since she last played a game in the National Women’s Soccer League, in the U.S., but she is still the league’s all-time top scorer, with more goals than Alex Morgan or Megan Rapinoe.
Kerr is also the captain and star player of the national team of Australia, which, along with New Zealand, is hosting the Women’s World Cup. Australia has never advanced further than the quarterfinals. The reigning champion and world No. 1 is the United States. Spain has the best player in the world, the midfielder Alexia Putellas. England won the Euros, and Canada won the gold medal in the Olympics, where Australia finished fourth. Still, in the past few months, the Australian team, known as the Matildas, has beaten or matched several of the world’s best squads. Its second-best player, the defender Ellie Carpenter, is back from a nearly yearlong injury. And there will be a home-field advantage. “I think there’s tremendous pressure,” Lloyd, who will cover this year’s tournament as an analyst for Fox Sports, told me. “If they don’t go far in this World Cup, it’s going to be deemed as a failure.”

Ship: Tadhg x Niamh + friendships
[Featuring: Teddy Ellison— @cursebreakerfarrier, Gabriel Sapieha— @slytherindisaster, and Roel Leeuwenhoek— @words-and-wands with a mention of Adelia Selwyn— @thatravenpuffwitch]
No one had been more surprised than Tadhg Lynch when he took inventory of who would be invited to his wedding and discovered that his side involved more than six people. His best man had been an easy decision. Teddy Ellison had been his brother in every way but blood since the early months of their first year at Hogwarts and there was no one else who made as much sense. Plus, Teddy had been essential in actually creating his relationship with Niamh Kelly.
As most of his friends could attest, Tadhg was oblivious and rarely in touch with his emotions. It had surprised exactly no one that it took a little over two years of a solid, stable friendship before Tadhg asked Niamh on a date. It had surprised them that he had needed no prompting or nagging to propose.
“The last of us getting married,” Teddy mused, and Tadhg rolled his eyes, adjusting his tie.
“Finally! We were beginning to think you’d never find anyone or do anything about it,” Gabriel Sapieha remarked.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I get it. I’m thirty and only now getting married,” Tadhg grumbled, buttoning his navy waistcoat.
“Chin up, mate, marriage isn't bad,” Teddy responded.
“Of course, it won’t be. I want to marry Niamh and Merlin only knows why she’d want to marry me.”
“Please. You’re great.”
“Yeah, you’re one of the good ones, Tadhg,” Roel Leeuwenhoek added.
Tadhg ducked his head and covered it up by reaching down to lift up his navy suit jacket. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks.
“We’ve basically been brothers since fourth year, I’m not quite sure that your interpretation of me isn’t tainted,” he muttered, pulling the jacket on.
“Well, then why don’t you tell us why you love Niamh and want to marry her,” Teddy responded.
Tadhg sighed, a slightly silly grin growing on his face.
“She’s brilliant. Probably the most incredible woman I’ve ever met.” He paused for a moment and internally cringed. “Not that other women aren’t incredible. It’s just that…”
“I get it. It’s the same with Adelia,” Teddy replied, a slightly dreamy look on his face.
“I love her so much. Like I didn’t know it was possible to love someone so much. I never thought that marriage would be something for me. I mean I rejected that stupid engagement my father created.”
“Wasn’t that a mutually broken engagement?” Gabriel asked.
“Well, yeah. But still.”
“Tadhg? Are you ready?” an older man with graying hair, Niamh’s father asked.
“Yeah. I think so, Mr. Kelly.”
“Donal. You’re to be my son-in-law, you can call me Donal.”
“Of course, sir.”

— ♔ In the past, people were born royal and for GABRIEL SERRANO the THIRTY ONE-year-old CROWN PRINCE of MEXICO, that is a tradition HE intend/s to keep. To others, HE looks an awful lot like MICHAEL TREVINO and has/have been painted as THE ASSHOLE but behind closed doors, HE is/are ARROGANT and IRRESPONSIBLE but also CHARMING and INTELLIGENT. It has also been said they are BETROTHED to NIAMH O’ROURKE. (A/30/est/she/they)
Welcome Prince Gabriel Serrano, we hope you enjoy your stay and represent your country of Mexico well! The fc of Michael Trevino and the country of Mexico are now taken! Please check out the checklist and send in your account within twenty-four hours.
What is your character’s gender?: cis man
Are you filling a wanted connection? If so, which one?: Niamh betrothed
Please provide three headcanons about your character:
TRIGGER WARNING (Mental health mentions, sexual themes)
He was one of the nine that were kidnapped, and due to this he now suffers from PTSD coupled with panic disorder. Besides medication, he self medicates with seeking out sexual encounters at a near constant rate. Despite being highly intelligent, his irresponsibility can get the better of this fact, and make him seem like a poor choice as a crown prince for future ruling of a country, however, as an only child, this is all the royal family has to fall back on. Although he was in a long term off and on relationship (due to constant cheating) with a common woman, a local psychiatrist of his hometown that he also used after the kidnapping, the woman completely broke it off when the announcement of his betrothal was out, despite his clear disdain for it. He’s bitter of this fact.
Please provide two or more connection ideas for your character:
A bed buddy (gender does not matter here) in which he seeks out this person when bored
A royal guard who he views as a close friend
Please answer the following questions IC:
What is one thing you are proud of/love about your country? “The beauty of my country is unmatched to any other I have seen.” What is the most important thing in your suitcase? “Condoms.” Who and/or what will you miss most from home? “I won’t necessarily miss any one person, but I will miss the sense of family that I am losing in going to a place where I know very few.”

indigo niamh addams is a resident.
resident | northside | professor of spirituality and sexuality at washington university | thirty | female
trigger warnings (alcoholism, drug use, death, car accident)
past
Born in the late 80’s, Indigo is the daughter of the late Cedar Addams and Clover Addams, a couple that had met at a Woodstock festival in 1985, when her father was only 18 years old, and her mother 16. Instantly the couple had fallen in love during the rise of the War on Drugs, and found common interest of their use of marijuana. Cedar had come from a family of wealth from the city, while Clover had traveled in hippie vans and lived a nomadic lifestyle most of her life. A year later, Cedar had escaped his life in the city and joined Clover; the two were married months later and a year after that, gave birth to their first child, Indigo. In order to provide for their growing family (Indigo’s little brother Ziggy joining them only five years later), the couple began to cultivate their own hemp farm, eventually using it as a business tool to keep their bills paid when they decided to settle in a home in Mount Royal.
Growing up, Indigo would consider her childhood rather enjoyable. She grew to learn that the bloodshot eyes and genuine laughter of her parents were to be expected and not feared; and at the young age of twelve she began to smoke marijuana with the assistance of her parents. She attended music festivals and Woodstock with her parents, constantly being surrounded by good music and even better energy. By the age of thirteen, she could out-roll those more experienced than herself simply by watching them, getting used to the motions and beginning to make herself quite useful for her parents business. Despite the presence of drugs in her home, Indigo was very much in good hands with her parents and had one of the most loving childhoods a child could ask for. Once her little brother was born, Cedar and Clover bought a summer home in Washington, where the family would travel every summer in order to create memories that would last forever.
As the young girl matured, Indigo seemed to become rather popular among all genders at school. This wasn’t exactly an issue - her parents had always taught her that it wasn’t what was between a person’s legs, but rather between their ears and underneath their rib cage. Following this mentality, Indigo found herself romantically involved at the ripe young age of fourteen, and eventually losing her virginity to a girl at the age of fifteen. She’d maintained relationships throughout her life if she so desired, but Indigo much preferred to keep things casual between her partners. During her second year of University (she had been granted admission into Columbia, majoring in Psychology with a minor in History), Indigo had developed an emotional, as well as physical, connection with her Political Science professor; a man that ‘just seemed to have his life together.’ It took Indigo months to pursue him, and even longer for him to respond to her advances due to his devotion to his wife and family. Eventually, Indigo had cracked him - the two continued a romantic as well as sexual relationship up until the last few months of her sophomore year, when he abruptly ended the relationship and transferred schools. Indigo never heard from him again. She was devastated. Two months following her and Liam’s breakup, Indigo’s parents were hit at an intersection by a teenage boy who had run a red light because he was looking at his cell phone. At the age of twenty, Indigo and her brother had become orphans. The boy behind the wheel was sixteen, and was given a two year sentence in a juvenile detention center, then transported to a prison for a nine year sentence for vehicular homicide, with a required six months of parole.
Indigo didn’t know what to do. Her entire world came crashing down around her, all that was left was Ziggy; who was only fifteen at the time. Quickly and in a blur, Indigo fell into alcohols trap. She’d dropped out of Columbia soon after receiving the news, moving back home to be with Ziggy - legally she wasn’t allowed to leave him now that her parents were gone. Soon, it wasn’t a normal day unless Ziggy came home from school and found his older sister blacked out in the kitchen or bathroom, or in his parents old bed. He’d spend hours cleaning vomit rather than doing homework. The amount of alcohol bottles that stacked up in the garbage or around the house was enough to warrant Indigo’s rehabilitation when CPS showed up two months later to check on how she was doing raising her little brother. Ziggy fell into the foster care system, and Indigo was sent away to a facility. Or rather, four or five. Nothing could keep her sober as the ghosts of her parents constantly haunted her - she just wanted to get away. Once he was old enough to drive, Ziggy frequently visited Indigo while she was in care. During this time Indigo also learned that she was unable to have children; she had polycystic ovary syndrome.
present
Eventually, by the age of twenty-two, Indigo slowly but surely began to sober up. She returned to school, remaining sober for a year and half before she had spiraled out of control yet again, her relapse including her getting behind the wheel and crashing, landing herself in the hospital in critical condition. Remaining in rehab for the remainder of her college years, Indigo completed online courses for her degree and again left rehab to join society; returning to Columbia for one last year to complete her masters before taking up a position spirituality and sexuality professor at Washington University. There, she met her best friend and current love of her life, Aspen Whitlock (soon to be Addams).
Indigo and Aspen had met by chance when Aspen had been a TA at the same school, and had been instructed to drop off a textbook in Indigo’s classroom. From there; their story wrote itself. They had agreed on something purely physical at first, but that agreement had burned into something much stronger that neither woman could explain, until those three little words fell from Indigo’s lips (and Aspen’s a few days later). Their relationship was taboo, as Aspen was a student at the time. That didn’t stop the pair from moving in together, settling in Indigo’s family’s old summer home in Washington, along with (now) their golden retriever puppy, Pinnacle. Two years into their relationship, Indigo proposed to Aspen, and was heartbroken when the blonde rejected her; though the couple remained together.
After her Visa had expired, Indigo and Aspen had spent a few months in Indigo’s original hometown, Mont Royal, in Canada as she awaited the renewal of her Visa. Upon getting it, the couple moved back to the states, and Indigo once again took up her position at Washington University, continuing her and Aspen’s life as if nothing had changed. She plans very soon to propose to her beautiful girlfriend.
personality
Indigo’s most prominent trait is her compassion for others; nothing matters more to her than the comfort of those around her and their well being, and this goes especially for Aspen. Many people who meet Indigo would tell others that their first impression of her was ‘flirt.’ She’s incredibly confident in herself and her looks, so she knows people find her attractive and she uses it to her advantage. (This is also a trait used by her girlfriend, Aspen.) All in all, she’s a very enjoyable person to be around, especially once one gets to know her and be on her good side. For those who aren’t, Indigo is a fierce friend and lover, and will do anything for those she loves. She is not above getting revenge on people, and she’s got an incredibly wicked tongue when it comes to verbal arguments.

Tadhg and Niamh Wedding Headcanons
Tumblr media
They’re both on the older side when they get married. Tadhg’s thirty and Niamh’s twenty-nine.
Their wedding date is December 24, 1904 and it’s a rather small affair. It’s also a muggle wedding so Niamh’s parents, Donal and Maeve, can attend. The wedding takes place at the church in the town where Niamh grew up at around one in the afternoon, because it’s Christmas Eve.
There’s a small Catholic ceremony, as Niamh’s an Irish Catholic and yeah, most witches and wizards aren’t religious, but Niamh’s parents are.
Teddy (@cursebreakerfarrier) is Tadhg’s best man. I don’t know who Niamh’s maid/matron of honor would be.
There’s between twenty and forty people in attendance, including Niamh’s parents, Teddy Ellison, Adelia Selwyn (@that-ravenpuff-witch), Theo Abbott (@smarti-at-smogwarts), and Lu Morrison (@rosievixen).
Feel free, if your MC would be close to either Tadhg or Niamh, to let me know  via ask if they’d be interested in attending and I’ll add them to the list of invitees.
They both decided to write their own vows. And yes, Tadhg had a lot of input from Teddy, Theo, Adelia, and Lu.
Niamh’s vows: “Tadhg, my love, I never expected to fall in love with you. I knew there was something special about you the moment I met you. You had your feet up on my desk and didn’t care that I was an auror and a woman. All that mattered to you was that you were convinced it was Teddy’s desk. That showed you were different. Things aren’t going to be easy. We both know that, but hopefully, with you by my side, everything will be a bit smoother. And I won’t let you push me away.”
Tadhg’s vows: “We both know that feelings and emotions aren’t my thing. In fact, I had a lot of help writing this. I’m not a poet or author or anything. I have more baggage than an emigrant getting on a ship to the United States. But I love you. That’s all that matters. I love you and will try my damn hardest to be the man that you deserve.”
Their wedding rings are simple silver bands.
Neither Tadhg nor Niamh were allowed to help plan the wedding. If it had been up to them, the wedding would have been whatever the equivalent of going to a courthouse is in 1904 Ireland.
Their first dance is awkward, as neither are all that graceful and both are focused on trying not to step on one another’s feet. Adelia (because I feel like Adelia would know how to do like the waltz and such) tried to teach them before the wedding. They only got like on rehearsal in because of their work schedules.
The reception is in a wizarding pub, as Niamh’s parents didn’t really care about the reception. There’s a few more people invited to the reception, as opposed to the ceremony.
The party goes until about 10 o’clock as it’s Christmas Eve.
Tadhg, Niamh, Teddy, Adelia, Theo, and Lu (and perhaps Jonathan depending on their relationship status) spend another hour with just them, having a few toasts to the new married couple.
